How nice of BMW to include heated seats, sat nav and xenons as standard at the end of the F10s run. You can be sure as hell they weren't standard when it was released.
+1. Typical and yes everything was an option at the start. I mean everything!! It's coming to end of its life cycle now. Hence BMW strategy just like every other manufacturer. Give them everything because we'll have the new 5 series on the road soon. Money on everything being an optional extra on the new 5 series. 1000%
Just got my 520d a month ago and it's brilliant! Used just over 60L diesel and done more than 1000kms with a good mix of inner city/motorway & spirited driving up mountain twisties. The 8 speed auto is very smooth and acceleration pretty good for such a big car.
I remember watching this when it first came out and wanted to get one so bad as my next car. Luckily I somehow managed to buy a 2015 BMW 550i fully loaded a little towards the end of 2016. Like many who buy cars, I watched a ton of videos to making sure I’m making the right choice. The f10 series right now are literally dirt cheap and if you’re really thinking about buying one then here are some suggestions and “mini-review” I have that differs a bit from the video. 1.) run-flat tires really kill this car even with the suspension option. When Matt says that the car drives really comfortably idk if he’s comparing it to a Mclaren but the ride quality is honestly more sporty than comfortable. You can definitely feel all the bumps in the road. 2.) I’ve owned Toyota’s and much cheaper cars before I bought my 5 series and there’s honestly no difference in interior noise. The BMW is not a quiet car to drive in. In fact my Lexus RX 2015 is much quieter to drive in than the 5 series. 2.) Yes, the car is definitely a sporty drive and if you put it in sport mode you really can feel a difference but the steering feel is not really direct at all. There seems to be some massive dead-zones and heavy feel of the steering wheel in sports mode that doesn’t really make you feel connected to the road. 3.) the interior cubbies and storage areas are non-existent in this car. Literally i don’t have a decent place to put my phone other than putting it in the side cubby on the door (which will fit sunglasses at best) or put it away in the side hidden compartment on the driver side. 4.) reliability, after 4 years of ownership I haven’t had any major issues with the car at all which is definitely a plus. I did hear of some common issues that you might encounter (mainly engine) but I haven’t yet. 5.) if you get the 550i, know that it’s jerky at low speeds. The 550i model has just so much power and it just doesn’t do well when you’re driving around in the parking lot and out of the neighborhood. 5.) the iDrive entertainment is literally trash lol. Idk why Matt loves this system but it’s literally the biggest pain to get through. I literally need to spend 4 minutes every morning just to connect my phone to the car via Bluetooth just because it’s hidden behind so many settings and most of the times it never auto connects. Regarding the navigation, there’s not a place where I can store my home address so I could find it within a few clicks. The only thing provided is address through contacts or previous destinations. 6.) trunk space is actually decent. I’ve surprisingly made quite a few ikea runs with my BMW without a problem. Just make sure the model you’re buying has fold down rear seats. 7.) the driver assistance systems are high key useless and a gimmick. The blind spot monitor doesn’t work half the time and for comparison the Lexus blind spot is a wonder compared to this. For example, the blind spot monitor only goes off when the car next to you is literally way too close to you. The lane keep assist is nice but it’s not active lane keep (only works at speeds 40 MPH+) and many times it doesn’t register the lane markings. The active collision or whatever it’s called never went off when I was legit close to a collision but always goes off randomly when I’m just driving normally. (Not tailgating and I checked with BMW service and they said it’s all working normally). 8.) if you want to buy, find a car spec with heads up display. This is definitely a BMW redeeming feature and it’s absolutely amazing. Also find one with the upgraded executive seats and not the entry trim seats, upgraded seats are much more comfortable. Lastly, BUY THE X-drive model. Where I live is wet, and with rear wheel drive this car literally is a nightmare with traction. 9.) visibility at the front is ok since you’re sitting a bit low. It’s actually decent on your blind spots and the rear pillars don’t get too much into your way. Overall, in the US a used 2015-2016 BMW 5 is a great bargain and you’d benefit from buying one. You can probably also bling out and look “successful” as most people literally cannot tell the difference between the f10 and g30 generations. Hope this helps :) reply with questions and hopefully I can answer them
Mike UK thanks genius. I’m saying that after you pair the phone still won’t connect automatically all the time. In fact, loads of times the setting says im connected but I’m not.
I fully agree on most terms, however (I own a 2013 520d model), stating that it's "not a quiet car to travel in" is 100% incorrect. Sure, it's not the most quiet car on the planet, but it definitely is a quiet car if you're not used to top range Mercedes, Range Rovers and Rolls Royces. Also iDrive absolutely is a great system to use. Yeah it's not as intuitive as your smartphone or anything, but if you compare it to it's competitors' systems from the 2010-2015 era it's the best you can get. I can also gladly confirm reliability is great, it has never let me down, nor have I ever had to spend more than 800 for a service. Something I'd like to add for potential second hand buyers: Whereas I've never driven the manual version, the drivetrain with the automatic is an absolute dream. It's quick, it doesn't jerk at maneuvering speeds, it's silky smooth and you don't even know what gear your in at any given moment. It's so good that it's actually fun to use in manual mode with the paddels (note: this is an optional extra). For everyone with further questions: feel free to hit me up as well, it's not a cheap car if you pick the wrong one lol ;)
@@tj349 Great points for sure, thanks for sharing! I think everything we agreed on can be very subjective based on the previous cars we've been in which definitely impacts how we perceive the current model. Definitely can see your point in which the ride is quiet. I've been in a few upper end cars (S-class, Lexus LS, and many large SUVs), higher end cars coupled with non run-flats definitely make them a dream to ride in compared to this car. I can agree that this is quiet but I just expected it to be much better compared to mid tier cars relative to this being a "high tier" car ( in poor man terms ofc). In perspective the 2015 5 series got a minor tweak in its suspension compared the the 2013 version and I still feel it's bad in terms of road noise and comfort. Again the infotainment boils down to which system you've used previously and which one you got the hang of and got use to it. I would say overall the idrive is awesome but I didn't like it because there were obvious things that were so practical from Merc and even Lexus that were missing from the iDrive system. Lastly, your point on the drivetrain is great but its incredibly important to note that it applies to your model of the 520i and probably the 530 and 535i but it does not apply to the 550i. A straight six and a turbo 4 found in the cars I specified are smooth, regardless at what speed you're driving. The V8 found in the 550i as well as the m5 are not smooth at all at low speeds and its a pain.
Also one more thing I would like to add, with BMW 5 depreciation, I would recommend you buy the g30 generation and skip the f10 generation. The price point is about 5-10k apart which is not a lot at all considering the amount of reworks and new features on the g30 generation. The F10 is already slightly starting to age (done amazingly well since its launch) and it does look old even to random people on the streets. Because the new mild refresh of the G30 just came out and it looks identical to the old g30, getting the G platform 5 series is your best bet!

it's mostly because he drives cars with the steering wheel on the wrong side. most cars are designed for normal driving position and have to be adapted to UK style.
I just bought this car second hand 4 weeks ago, I upgraded from a E46 318i 99 to a F10 530i 2012. Its an absolute dreeeeaaaam to drive. Its comfy, its luxurious, its sporty and it still looks like a modern car. It looks stunning, it feels great, interior looks and feels great. Maybe shouldve opted for a LCI version that has slightly better idrive functions and more options but the 2012 530i is still a dream to drive and I dont regret it for a second!
weird options on that car. M styling, M steering wheel, side-view, top end navigation, but no folding rear seats. someone was penny pinching in the wrong place. btw, lumbar support is included if you select the comfort front seats, they're also full electric and come with memory.
TotalMadnessMan IKEA trips :-) Other than that, it's good to have when you're moving, or taking the car to visit relatives in another country. you then need lots of room for luggage.

@@jamessaunders4265 it's true I have 520d f11 and it's far from what we expected but who cares? My wife drives it most of the time and she will never understand smooth driving methods
@LexifyGamer they are not that bad. It also depends on how you choose to drive it. If i compare to other brands BMW is actually pretty economic. Its not a light weight car or smth, dunno what u want. A 2000 kilo ferrari that does 1l/100km when full throtteling to 360km/h 24/7?
Forget the economy 2.0d does not get you anywhere near 60mpg - low 50's or less is the norm! Leg room in the back is only OK if you have the shortest of people in the front! The suspension mentioned as a must is just under £1k . Some extras are good value but if not specified when built then forget it - such as Interior light pack at £230 (around 17 lights!)and extra 12v sockets at £45.
Well, I know the term is used in popular speech but to an engineer it sounds as strange as saying 'engine tunnel' or something :p All that small stuff aside, compliments on the review
So i just learned that from country to country the definition of "standard" equipment can vary a lot. Here in Italy, no leather or heated seats as standard... Which is a bit silly for a 50k BMW...
Currently drive a 987 Boxster, I have decided the 530d M Sport will be my next car. Its faster but also more economical, luxurious, really well built, and looks great! Great all-round car!
You guys from @carwow did a mistake in cutting the video :p when you show us the rear seat with 3 passenger, it's actually the A6 and not the 5 series. Most probably didn't noticed, but the design of the seats and the C pillar window proves that it's from Audi :)

Mohammed Alsaad well I mean if your stalking real small family the c class is the one considering I’m a bmwfan boy as it won’t be ideal getting something quite big like 5 series if you do have quite a small family but let’s say you are a family of 5 either way you can get both cars but I’d say if you going for power has to be the beemer any day but if you are a bit relaxed I’d say the c class as the c class just don’t have that sporty side compared to the 5 series

Don't worry too much about adaptive damping. If you take a standard suspension car and replace the rock hard and low grip runflat tyres with something like a Goodyear eagle assymetric or Michelin pilot sport (non runflat) you have a car which handles and rides much better.
Just came back to watch this cuz i owned one and one thing doesn't quit sit right with me.. HOW! Or why do you think that the interior isn't better looking than the e class from this generation..?? Like srsly i want to know, cuz the interior on the e class did not age well at all.
Why haven't you mentioned anything about the timing chains that have a tendency to "stretch" , especially on the 2ltr diesel.? These are things potential buyers need to know about?!
@bob bob Exactly my point !! You were reviewing the F10 but you didn't mention the issues mentioned. I know about the new engines but it wasn't these I was on about. ?
I absolutely love my 2014 twin turbo V8 550i xdrive. I previously owned a 2013 E350 Mercedes & a 2014 Cadillac CTS Coupe, but the Mercedes and the Cadillac is no comparison to the BMW with all due respect. The Power of the V8, overall handling and feeling of the 550i is what separates the BMW from the other two cars. I’ll be buying the M550i next year. I was conflicted between purchasing a Porsche cayman S or the BMW M550i, but I’ve decided to go with the M550i.

Timeless design that. In 10 years it’ll still look fresh albeit with the right M Sports kit on it
E39 Looks a bit better
Exactly
No why would you need folding rear seats? The boot is big enough.
TotalMadnessMan IKEA trips :-)
Other than that, it's good to have when you're moving, or taking the car to visit relatives in another country. you then need lots of room for luggage.
Verliebt
yeah if you do that what my family and i never do ^^
And 18" rims? Come on. At least get the 19" ones.
0:08 .. He aggressively disrespects the BMW company and then smiles..
Get over it
5:55 - I thought he was driving on an empty tank, then I saw the speed 😂😂
My current daily car… it actually carried 4 in the rear, had my parents visit & we went London eye with my two kids. All fit in the back seat “comfortably”..
How many large suitcase can you fit at the back?
i own a 2013 550i and im still in love with it, perfect driving machine !!
kkk 7977 nice car, i have 2013 530d
@LexifyGamer Even the 520d model my dad had wasn't great for fuel economy he only got around 36mpg
@LexifyGamer no he had a 2014 model
I would get the beautiful red leather seats . Brings the car to a whole new level in interior looks.
Still good in 2024? I’m looking for 2016
Classic design and value for money now. Decent to work on if you do your own repairs. Don’t do the manual. The auto is so smooth.
Proud owner of a E60/61 which I got for £5k. I absolutely love it so can only imagine what this F10 is like.
@@cockshield really. Why the big difference in ride quality?
Must admit my 61 rides very well and it's very quick after its remap.
How is the handling in this?
Forget the economy 2.0d does not get you anywhere near 60mpg - low 50's or less is the norm! Leg room in the back is only OK if you have the shortest of people in the front! The suspension mentioned as a must is just under £1k . Some extras are good value but if not specified when built then forget it - such as Interior light pack at £230 (around 17 lights!)and extra 12v sockets at £45.
I got the F11 M Sport. Touch wood, What a car so far
How often would you carry five up?, and, if you do, how long and how far are the trips?
It's a driveshaft tunnel, not so much a transmission tunnel. Transmission is quite a bit to the front I think
+Tom Gulikers you'll be telling me they aren't wing mirrors but door mirrors next. 😁
Well, I know the term is used in popular speech but to an engineer it sounds as strange as saying 'engine tunnel' or something :p All that small stuff aside, compliments on the review
Dwergmaster yeah
So i just learned that from country to country the definition of "standard" equipment can vary a lot.
Here in Italy, no leather or heated seats as standard... Which is a bit silly for a 50k BMW...
It's nice to know it gives space for your favourite DVDs
Matt why is the Park light (5;53) on it whilst you were driving?
Currently drive a 987 Boxster, I have decided the 530d M Sport will be my next car. Its faster but also more economical, luxurious, really well built, and looks great! Great all-round car!
It looks brilliant in white
The best car of ever. Power, design, dimension, infotainment
I'm amazed by the amount of comments talking about him putting his foot on the car.
its a supercar, not a car, i like only serie 5 bmws , diesel one
Always had 330ds but this model 530d looks very appealing
You guys from @carwow did a mistake in cutting the video :p when you show us the rear seat with 3 passenger, it's actually the A6 and not the 5 series. Most probably didn't noticed, but the design of the seats and the C pillar window proves that it's from Audi :)
Why would they show u the bmw if they want u to watch it..
good observation :-))
i wouldnt even think about getting this car right now, the new one is due soon so prices fr this will drop once its out plus its rivals are so much more up to date interior wise. exterior wise this car still looks up to date and beautiful
i wish u put out this video a year earlier then i would hav fitted my 5 series with adaptive dampers damn...
Is it worth geting 2015/2016 520d version now in 2020 (to 80k km)? Because alternative for the price of used f10 is new golf(basic version). What do you guys think?
VW's are garbage, you will regret it for getting one!
Exactly 2 years ago this was uploaded, but i still love this car
matt please do a review of the new alfa romeo giulia
Why is it always raining when Matt is reviewing a Bima ?
Can u fold seats
F10's interior compared to the E class competitor and the new E class is Royal club or on Rolls Royce level compared to the Renault E classes
Are you talking about E class from 2016 on or before 2016
@@Mark-yx4eh before
@@Nature__patrol Than its true bc the new W213 is the best looking out of all 3 germans
This car is 2014 model year not 2016?
Its a 65 plate meaning its 2015, this car model is the same as the 2014 and 2016 ones, a new fove series hasnt come out yet.
dave alders I know the number plate system i'm British. he put 2016 in the title like it's a 2016 model year when this current gen came out in 2014. The new 5 series is expected to come out later this year.
Why do I even look at car reviews I can't even afford. 😐😭
3:11 Nigerian scammer haha
what is the difference between 2011 bmw 5 and 2017 bmw 5 series? This is new model or face lift only?
@japanwatchconnection not looks though imo
that gearbox is phenomenal!
from old E60 to F10, the difference is huge!!!
Looking to buy a 2011 528i with low kms that has the n52 engine for reliability. Is this a good idea?
Does bmw 5 series 2013 has ambient lighting?
Bmw 5 or mec c class 2015?
Im buying a car in the next couple of months and im not sure which is best for a small family, any advice?
Mohammed Alsaad well I mean if your stalking real small family the c class is the one considering I’m a bmwfan boy as it won’t be ideal getting something quite big like 5 series if you do have quite a small family but let’s say you are a family of 5 either way you can get both cars but I’d say if you going for power has to be the beemer any day but if you are a bit relaxed I’d say the c class as the c class just don’t have that sporty side compared to the 5 series
@@Ouaziz186 thanks for the advice, I coundt find a good deal on c class so I bought 5 series and I'm really happy with it, it's really comfy and relaxing.
Everytime I go for a drive both kids fall into instant sleep, that just tells you how comfy it is
@@XphinixX damn really that’s good man I’m happy for u and to hear that👌👌👍if you don’t mind, can I ask how much you bought it for and what reg?
Still a beautiful car. Only got it as a rent car 535d. Impressive car with amaz performance and comfort.
What year is this ? Or is that steering wheel an option ?
why do you hide your subscriber count?
because of people like you
that really doesn't answer my question but nice try Rayan.
Mat please review facelifted 3 gt
Can you do a review of the new Vauxhall Astra please?
He's done one on carbuyer
lol yes it’s done in 3 words “ bloody rubbish car “
What is this recommended now in 2020?
Don't worry too much about adaptive damping. If you take a standard suspension car and replace the rock hard and low grip runflat tyres with something like a Goodyear eagle assymetric or Michelin pilot sport (non runflat) you have a car which handles and rides much better.
Cant wait to buy a 535d soon! Ashame theres no wagon version in Australia
If you get the wide screen you can watch dvds and music videos you download on to a media usb
Whats better 520d or 525d? (Msport)
At 5:54 how can a moving car show 0kmph on its speeodometer
Can you do the mini convertible?
is it the m2 or the 6 series
Can l know the price of it ? Pls.
Have you got a video review or drag race on a 64 plate BMW 535d m sports 3.0lt twin turbo 313bh version ?
I absolutely love my 2014 twin turbo V8 550i xdrive. I previously owned a 2013 E350 Mercedes & a 2014 Cadillac CTS Coupe, but the Mercedes and the Cadillac is no comparison to the BMW with all due respect. The Power of the V8, overall handling and feeling of the 550i is what separates the BMW from the other two cars. I’ll be buying the M550i next year. I was conflicted between purchasing a Porsche cayman S or the BMW M550i, but I’ve decided to go with the M550i.
1:18 What's a "DVD" ?
I’m still undecided... 320D touring pack M or 520D touring pack M ? what your opinion ? The 5 series is funny to drive like the 3 series?
I want to see The Big Bottle test in every video.
that is already the professional navigation system .😄
What's a DVD
no sunroof ????
How do you activate cruise control? I
Can u test w212
By the way, for boot it's not good to operate it by hand, when it is electric.
Still looks great in 2024.
I recently went in a new 3.0d 3 series. The acceleration was frightening.
song on 6:23 ?
Can you get the 535i m sport with a manual gearbox? (In the uk)
Sorry Matthew. Can you do some reviews on the Mercedes S - class, Audi A8 and BMW 7 series. My father is considering buying a new car but dont know much information about them!! Thanks in advance
why is the Parking Brake warning light on? (5:57) no wonder why the economy was low. :-)
Can you do a review of the BMW 7 Series ?
cant believe you didn't talk about the rest of the engines available. v8?
Hahaha love it! Although i would like to see some reviews of the new Volvos (S90 and V90).
Hock Ooi yeah why not?
+Hock Ooi they have
Mitsubishi Toyota ???
Too bad the engines on the Volvo is soo booring.
