i own this car, havent had any of those problems
different car review hi, I’ve got a problem with my Bmw f10 2012 model, basically every other day I have to refill up the water coolant tank and is something I never used to do before, so I went to the garage to get it checked and they said that there isn’t any Water leaking sign through the pipes or anything like that so they told me to just to change the water coolant tank, so I’ve changed the water coolant tank but bear in mind it wasent a brand new I bought it of another Bmw the same model as mine which means it was used, and I didn’t think that would cause any problems but still I’m still having the same problem, what would you recommend me? Do you think is best to go to Bmw dealer and buy a brand new water coolant tank?
Ahmed Saciid Hi,
I’m just curious what the cause of the problem was. Would you share that with us?
Tx in advance!
I very much doubt that if you exchange any non-leaking part that that would have helpt. If there’s no leakage visible on the outside (did they use trace fluid?) than it must have leaked on the inside 😬. But you should have noticed that I think.
BMW 525d has 6cylinders n57d30a motor f10 2010 Just saying and it runs like New still :)
any opinion on the 535i GT models? Would they be closer to the 5 in terms of reliability or the 7 series (F01) as it shares the same platform? thx
I can’t believe that this car is almost 9 years old! Still so beautiful!
looks better than newer models tbh
Currently have a2010 march 525d 3.0 and cant complain at all
Really it does
Timing chain +parts its about 1400£

I was very pleased with my own 2011 520d Touring, which I had from 2013-2021. It had the sport automatic, the fantastic comfort seats and adaptive drive. Over my ownership, the main issues were broken front springs (a real hassle to replace due) and rear air springs (easy to replace). I went through a couple of sets of brake discs and pads front and rear, which is normal wear. I had to replace some electrical connectors to the electric handbrake actuator (which was because I removed it wrongly), but that was a small job. I also experienced water seeping in through the rear door inner linings (glue dries up), which apparently happens to a lot of these cars. But all in all, I had a lot of good motoring from this car, which did not once let me down over the course of nearly 8 years. And somewhat surprisingly, I found it relatively easy to work on it myself.
Hi bro,can you please tell me approximately yearly how much will maintenance cost to have this car? I can afford max 3k€ but don't know will be enough. Also i have in plan 530d.
They have oil consumption?
Finally I review worth watching. Pros and cons is what I was after. The issues mentioned will greatly help when I purchase 2011 onwards 535D sport.
Me too, Did U get it yet ?, I might get a 2011 this week.

Spot on, I have a friend who is a BMW technician and he once gave me almost all the information/details mentioned in this video.
So does the 528i also have air suspension? Because I’m indecisive on either this bmw or a E350 sport Benz. What’s your thoughts ?

Thank you very much !! Thank you for putting up known issues with the car and their year and engines!! Great review!! I’m looking to get 2013 535i but trying to find the most information I can about the model first
Thanks for the advice! Going to see a 2011 525d tomorrow so this information will help thanks👍🏽
Bought yesterday, and will pick up on saturday. 528i 3.0 258hp. Test drive was amazing. And this car has a power!!!
My F10 is nine years old and I love it! Still fast and comfortable. I've looked at newer cars but there is nothing better in my price range.
I just bought a 2011 520d with 65000 for £7895 i sooooo love this car egr valve went but the dealer sorted it under warranty
My 2011 F11 520d has really only had a technical problem with both rear suspension bellows. Both were changed under warranty, however. My only real disappointment is with paint blistering on the original 17 inch rims (236 style). They have been used as winter wheels and clearly cannot take road salt, even though they have been regularly washed and waxed. I am now changing them for original 327 style wheels.
thanks for the video. it's very useful
Excellent video and spot on with my impressions on the e39 (owned 5) and e60 (skipped). Just got a great F10 535i after passing on a couple 550i's due to the valve stem seal issue. So glad i did. This car is amazing!
i had a 520d from Feb 2011, i had the car for 3 years and put 80000 km on it, without it causing me any problems, so i would recommend getting a well kept one
I love my E39, I wouldn’t have an E60, but I could definitely see myself in a F10 535i, 550i or M5.
4syth I have a 2011 550i . Great car . Not a daily commuter it’s a v8 so just weekends
@@fernee909 hows the maintenance? any major issues?

I have a Black 2004 E60 525i. LOVE this car. Looks like new. I have 140,000 and getting the hard downshift. Going to spend $300 on Solenoid replacement and Mechatronic sleeve, hoping it fixes it. It rides as well as any new car I've driven. Looking at it in the parking lot -- it still outclasses most cars!
Excellent video! Thank u sir!
Really into buying an 520d or i, thanks so much for this video! So much helpfull info so i now know exactly what to look for when if i buy one.
thank you for this video! i'm looking into buying a 520D Touring with the Msport package from September/2011 so the timing chain should not be a problem , love the look of these 5 series models , my dad also drives an F10 530D , had it for 6 -7 years now without any issue , so pretty relaible cars

Great video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the video, it's really useful
Great video! Thanks a lot.
Nice review and very accurate. I have a 5 year old F11 with 90k miles on it. It’s a brilliant car, but multimedia system crashes every few hours when it’s cold, and I have had to replace the air suspension bags (the latter I did myself with Arnott replacements for £300). Apart from that I’ve had a coolant leak (£100 fix from an independent). Changed to normal tyres as run flats are rubbish. Apart from that I love it, very comfortable, quiet and even my 520d has some grunt left when fully loaded with adults, luggage and a bike rack. Just don’t assume that you have to get it serviced by BMW, as they are ridiculously expensive, and will always in my experience, try to charge you to replace half worn parts early- seriously oil, filters and brakes are an easy job at home, and use an independent for nearly everything else!
Has the upkeep been expensive
Great review!
Thanks this is a very informative video
I bought a used f10 with 113,000 miles on it. Two owners. now its at 123,000 and so far only minor issues. turbo boost solenoid, oil pan gasket leak, rubber faring below windshield. Other than that normal oil change and spark plug change. And a gradual transmission fluid change. shes a beast with average sports cars. 535i m sport. I agree that this f10 is almost timeless and beautiful in appearance. I paid cash and bought a good warranty.
Very helpful Information, Thx a lot :)
Very informative video. Good job!
Really useful, thank you!
Great video I really like you change the commendations this is how it should be done and this is how the Gearbox manufacturer recommends it. At max 90k km. Its by far no lifetime oil as bmw tells. Also Differential oil should be changed every 100k

Got my 2011 535i 3 months ago and LOVE IT!! Previous owners kept in it wonderful condition and past the torch to me. Some things i wanted to add was: I got some things programmed into my car (digital speedometer, close mirrors, trunk and windows with fob and much more) and now my trunk has problems closing in severe cold whether or when I leave my car for a couple days in cold weather. Besides that, its perfect!

make sure that your EGR cooler is/was replaced / checked by the dealer since the old part can cause in some cases fire! there is a recall for this
@@differentcarreview-dcr Yes, it was. However BMW have just issued a second recall for the EGR valve cooler. (September 2022).
Thanks for the timing chain update. This killed my last 520d 2010 model. Might consider a 2016 model again.
Just keep the 2010 and save up for a G30
I owned all three of them: E39 (525i), E61 (535xi) and I am about to get rid of my F11 (520xd) soon. The sexiest is the E61 imho. Though my heart goes to the E39, kind of. The F11 was a leasing car and I was fortunate to order it from the factory. However it was not the most reliable...
I think I got the EGR valve changed 3 Times under 120.000 km. That surprised me.
I replaced the OEM continental contiprocontact run flat tires that came with my 528 F10 with BridgestonePOTENZA RE960AS POLE POSITION RFT and not only did the harsh ride quality of the continentals go away, but also the car's straight line traction and handling improved greatly. Try these bridgestone tire if you want to improve your ride quality while not sacrificing the convenience of having run flats on your car. I will not recommend the Bridgestone driveguard run flat tires however. I found that, while it provided improved ride comfort, it had little to no road feedback for the car.
i have 530i F10 and its harsh i removed the runflat continental and kind of better but not that much

The 3.0 diesels also suffer the chain issue. The headlight modules also fuck up fairly often. Manual gearboxes sometimes won't go in to reverse. Dualmass flywheels wear out fast too.
chain issue ? ? just change chain and you will be fine for other 200 250k km.... if you buy bmw prepare also for repairs.... 😀😀

I’ve owned an early production (2010) model year 2011 535xi for nearly 8 years. The car has 99k miles and has been free of problems save one that I believe is common. The trunk release goes out on a lot of these cars leaving you w/o access. In my case the car was rear ended literally the day after failing and was repaired as a part of sheet metal repair. The run flat tires on the car are a disaster. They bend rims AND they are worthless when flat...I know. A friend sold these cars (BMW) for 7 years saying the tires were the most common complaint and that factory reps ignored concerns saying they were here to stay. All that said it has been a very comfortable and well performing car. Hope this helps if you’re considering one.
It does, thank you. People are too harsh on the reliability of these.
hkc2003
What size tires are on the car?
I have 17” on my E60. Drives excellent with run flats. However on normal tires at high speed (150km/h 90M/h) the becomes unstable. My tyrecenter confirmed that the car really needs run flats.
I got a 2011 535xi with 49k miles on it, really rides great.. I’d like to see if regular tires are better riding than the run flat
I have 2011sept 520 diesel and i had to change the engine at 170Tkm because of many injectors were defect. There was no warning from board computer. I let check by BMW garage whether timing chain should be replaced, it costs 140€ and they gave me the car back and have not indicated the vibrations which was not normal. They are not so qualified. The truth is that Injectors should be tested every 100Tkm.

Watch out for the oil filter housing gasket around 40k, and water pump every 60k (overheating indicators when temp is normal is your hint). If your A/C stops blowing cold, replace the blower motor and blower regulator. Also, leaks in rear window seals and headlights are a constant frustration. Don't be afraid to ditch the run-flat tires-you won't regret it! The ride is much smoother without them, cheaper too! Some mechanical inclination will go a long way in saving you money with this car. RUclips videos are a HUGE help. Despite all this, I love my 2011 f10 535i M-Sport (MT6)!

1 thing I find missing is the details about the N20 engines faulty internal plastic timing chain guides, this is a major one (Class action lawsuit major) where the engines were blowing up around 76,000 to 79,000 miles when the plastic guides were giving way.

Amazing cars I have a 520d. 535d next.
Not a detailed assessment. The weak spot of the F10 reliability are suspension components and its ability to warp brake discs pretty easily. Also there was an engine upgrade to the 530d which improved performance to 258 bhp and emissions/economy from the 2012 model year.
Thank you so much

The crankshaft pully broke of on my F11 at 263 000 KM (2011 model, N57 525d), is this a known issue?
The key keeps on opening my doors even if I don't touch the doorhandle...
When I'm on a cold start, sometimes the engine will randomly shake once in a while (let's say you would feel 5 engine-shakes in 1 minute), as soon as I gas up, there is no issue...
I bought a 2011 550i after much searching. Ive had it 6 years now, and still just LOVE the car. Doesnt drink excessive fluids, is decent on gas, killer infotainment, and ultimate cmfort in a 4 door cruiser. 2 doors is plenty now, so when I sell, probably grabbing a new m6 or Alfa Quad Giulia. Love the lines on both, and both cars are brutally fast. I have a Stelvio and its a blast to drive, but the bmw despite its advanced age is worlds better. 0-60 in 4.7 is plenty quick, and the top end comes soon!

The engine in the M5 is similar to the 550i, but it's not the same. So you can buy the M5 models made before 2014, but they can have more problems than the regular 5 series.
Thanks DCR! Will look forward to your video in the future!
