My favourite detail about this movie is that the heart of Te Fiti gives the power of creation/life. When Moana’s grandmother gave the heart to Moana and encouraged her to restore it to Te Fiti, you notice that she sits down and looks visibly weak, and sadly dies moments later. It’s theorised that since she wore and possessed the heart, it kept her alive/healthy since it has the power of life/creation. And the heart kept her alive longer than she was supposed to be until she gave it to Moana. So when Moana leaves with the heart that’s why her grandmother dies, because the heart is no longer in her possession or keeping her alive anymore and the fact that she’s lived to execute her final goal - giving Moana the heart of Te Fiti, and show her her ancestors past. This movie is peak disney.
No you're onto something. There are theories about why Moana looks so much like Te Fiti. Maybe something to do with why she was chosen in the first place.
islander here!!! i am a descent from the people of Tonga! And let me tell you it was so sincere and amazing to see my little culture portrayed on a screen for the world to seeee
@@itsjustindiana They had one actor do the speaking voice, and another do the singing voice. Not as common to do it that way these days, but it still happens.
When I walked out of the Moana 2 theater, a lil kid yelled out that I looked like Moana😂😂😂 I turned around and said "No, I look like Maui" coz of my Big Back🥲🥲🥲
Fun facts about Moana. First fact: Moana is connected to both Frozen and Tangled. When Moana's dad, Chief Tui, tells all the kids in the beginning that there's no monsters, the first picture you see is the monster that Elsa created to keep Anna and Kristof away. You can also see that Maui briefly shape-shifts into Sven when he is on top of Tomatoa the crab. When Te Fiti restores Motonui, you can see the sun flower, so Te Fiti created Rapunzel. Second fact: Moana wasn't the first person the ocean chose to restore the heart. This honor has been passed down the generations of chiefs. That is why Chief Tui tried to leave the island, and lost his friend to the waves. And this is also why he was so afraid of the heart and threw it away when Moana showed it to him. And there are always dark references in each Disney movie so here's the third fact. Moana died in that storm traveling to Maui's island. This is why she is able to enter into the realm of monsters, and see her grandmother's spirit as the manta ray. I guess she did choose the right tattoo.
I love this movie. All of the music is phenomenal, but I think my favorite is I Am Moana with her grandmother. That moment of realizing exactly who she is, accepting it, and then embracing it is so powerful. She realized that she even tho she can give up, she doesn't HAVE to, because some part of her will always want to continue on. I love that moment of clarity for her. Next to that, Who You Are always gives me chills.
Hello to my fellow Austronesian family here, as a Filipino, we relate to the rest of Polynesia and South East Asia whose blood and soul is part of the sea. Our ancestors crossed the sea using the stars to find the islands which became our homes. The Lima (5) family which stretches from the Southern tip of Taiwan to the West in Madagascar, to the East in Hawaii, to the South in ASEA, and Polynesia. Moana is such a blessing not only to Polynesia but to the rest of Austronesia. ⛵⛵⛵🌊
Hi, my family are from Bahamas/Jamaican island. That's grandma spirit if you remember she said when she die she would become a stingray. She re- incarted as a sting ray. My favorite song is the snip it she did when she was giving tifiti the heart back.
omg yesss what a great birthday present!!!! you watching one of the best disney movies out there! lin manuel cannot be topped! as much of a meme that man is, he sure can write a dang good song
My favorite song is the song she sings to Tefiti when walking through the water. Second by how far ill go pt 2 with grandma. Like the part where she’s like “I am Moana!!!!” Chillssssss every time
I saw the Moana jr play from the children’s theater here. They used puppets and had lights off and neon lights etc. when the actress yelled “I am Moana!” I swear I not only had chills but my eyes welled up with tears.
The first i saw this i was at a friend's house and she insisted we watch it. When the Shiny scene came her husband peaced himself out to the bathroom. She got up and danced and put on the ridiculous sequenced cowboy hat with matching jacket😂 she started chasing her cats around the living room while dancing and singing and her husband yelled from down the hall "leave the cats alone Sharon! I couldn't stop laughing. It was so freaking funny!
"pop's pissed" Honestly, and I don't recommend this movie because it's REALLY not for the faint of heart but check out the movie that put Temuera (the voice of Moana's dad) on the map. It's called Once Were Warriors & you'll see how scary dad can really be lol. It's a hard watch though but a good intro to Pacific Islander content. And also just to plug in this movie. Temuera has a new movie out called Ka Whawhai Tonu which is the story of Aotearoa's first lang warfare. It's amazing storytelling. Ok byyyeeee
The stingray is the grandma's spirit. Seeing the stingray symbolises her passing on. I didn't understand that until her reunion with Moana. (When I watched it for the first time in theatres. I was around 17 then.) You and Moana seem to be so alike. What's your favourite Moana song? And which character did you relate to?
@@iknowwhatyouare102 I just don't like the way it was done. It has many great lessons in it but idk they could have picked better music, and some of the actors didn't come thru for me. I didn't find this as relatable as others. 🤷 Lol just personal taste I guess

the voice of Moana is Auli'i Cravalho, who was only 14 when she got cast for this movie. All of Hawai'i is so proud of her.
4:12 Moana's father is who plays George Washington on Hamilton!
Wait I did not know this omg! No wonder he sounded familiar
And Eliza, Philipa Soo is one of the villagers.
I thought it was Temuera Morrison who voiced Moana’s father??
