The cheap plastic comes from petroleum and is a huge problem, check out the studies of how the microplastics are in all US water. The cheap plastic gives off carcinogens during the manufacture process and also while it's in use. This new green stuff is what a lot of companies are going for. Scientists are looking for enzymes or bacteria that can break down petroleum based plastics. You can get a biodegradable phone case for a maybe 50% upcharge or a gas based rubber/plastic phone case for a 200%+ upcharge.
