it’s really nice to see a creator who’s aware of all of these nuances and able to present them in a relatable way that doesn’t feel like they’re “talking down” to their audience. it’s just a really wholesome vibe you generate here n it goes much appreciated saji !! no matter the content these videos always feel like a well deserved break. i hope you feel proud bc i really think you deserve to

from a viewer standpoint, I think some of the stats that the algorithm uses are stupid, like if I click on something the first time it's recommended or the tenth. sometimes I'm super interested but not in the right emotional state for something. or it's one I want to pay more attention to whereas at the moment I'm watching things in the background. Just because I don't click on it the moment it's recommended doesn't mean I'm not interested. in fact, I usually click 'not interested' for things that I'm not interested in. otherwise it just means I don't feel like watching it right this second.

I totally agree! The thing that annoys me is when I’m not in the right mood for a video, I add it to the Watch Later playlist, and then RUclips continually recommends the videos to me 🙄 like, the whole point is that I wanna watch them LATER, youtube

If you're still in school and stuttering has been a long term thing you're dealing with perhaps you could talk to a counselor about seeing a speech therapist at your school. Every school is required to have one by law. Nothing wrong with having a stutter, but there is therapy for it depending on your age

i get how you feel i dont have a stutter but i have autism! so seeing people with any kind of neurodivergence existing makes me feel more comfortable

    • @nate6045
      @nate6045 3 месяца назад +1

I had a friend that used to stutter a lot. He ended up stuttering a lot less as he gained some confidence. Hopefully you'll find that the less you feel embarrassed about it, the more confidence in yourself you'll have, the less you'll stutter.
Another good content creator to look up if you want some people who stutter that are doing well for themselves in the public eye is Drew Lynch. He got hit in the throat with a baseball and ending up having a bad stutter afterward. Then he decided to be a stand up comedian. Dude kills it and I feel like the stuttering makes his material funnier.
Wish you all the best man!

as a small RUclipsr this video is so accurate and so perfect. especially when you talked about making content that you really like and the pain of seeing it flop after working so hard on it. and RUclips studio rubbing it in. this video has actually really helped and kinda motivated me to keep going so thank you. :)

gotta love it when someone talks about being limited by the algo in a video and said video gets crushed by the algo (the same algo that constantly recommends and auto plays videos i’ve already watched all the way through)
god i hate this platform sometimes.

I'm so glad you brought up CJ the X, they're an amazingly talented creator on RUclips and I adore their content only because of how genuine and thought-provoking it is (as well as chaotic as all hell, which I can enjoy as someone just as 'everywhere all at once' as CJ). Your points in this video are magnificent, and I wholeheartedly believe that the content you're making now will help in one way or another on this platform.

thanks for the reminder that both content creators and their audience have a lot of ability to encourage and celebrate content that doesn’t appeal to the algorithm, having it explained made it sound so much more arbitrary ; probably why i don’t check out trending videos as much. “capitalism strips identity,” is nice food for thought because i feel like it’s so frequently applicable. thanks again saji

I've been feeling the same for years, I've had my Instagram art account for years and have never gotten like over a hundred likes and I felt like those likes equalled my worth as an artist and I tried to change everything in order to create content that appealled to the masses and grow a community and that drastically messed up my creativity, like I wasn't drawing bc I liked it or I wasn't drawing what I liked, I was drawing for the masses and it still didn't work lmao. But now I'm trying to mend my relationship with myself and my art and idrc anymore bc I love drawing more than I love the clout 😻 thank u for this video saji

as a smaller youtube creator and a visual artist, this video spoke to me on another level. the split between art and content for me feels razor thin a lot of the time. I’ve always strived to improve in certain aspects of my art, but I’ve felt recently the work I do for youtube has been impeding that progress I want to make. before youtube I never expected keeping up a channel to feel like such a personal experience, but after only a few months of this i can really feel the pressure of the algorithm to move away from my expectations for myself to appease whatever bs youtube wants me to make. it really can be a struggle.
it’s very interesting to hear about this from a larger creator’s perspective, and i think it’s a shame that the algorithm deemed this video “unworthy” or whatever the f. i really appreciated this video, and good luck with your youtube journey from now onwards!

this video hit me, when you first start off with RUclips you're just trying different types of content creation until one kind of just sticks. With every attempt being sad that what you put out does bad in terms of views, it can be so discouraging at the beginning. I've been watching you for a while now and its awesome to see the similarities in both our times on youtube. Have a great day man!

This is so friggin' relatable it hurts! My partner and I have a small skit channel, and we've been working for years to build it up. Sometimes it feels like we missed the window, back when RUclips had so many awesome skit-and-short film-based channels like Dom Fera, LiamKyleSullivan, EvilIguana, etc.
Lately we've been doing really well on views, which is wonderful! But it often feels like the vids we're the most passionate about--the ones we out the most effort into and like the most when they're done--never do as well as when we just do quick low-effort topical stuff. It can be disheartening, but I'm also glad we're doing well in general? So many complex feelings! 😂😢😭

i appreciate this video so much! it’s been lovely to watch you grow and listening to you reflecting on the ups and downs is really refreshing. as someone who’s also been making videos for years, it helps me a lot to remember my own values and reasons for doing it. i wanna make stuff that I’M excited to talk about, things that share things i know, things i think are important. i think it’s, in a way, easier for me as a smaller creator that isn’t making a living off my work. i try not to think about the algorithm at all honestly! i focus on the thoughtful comments and discussions i generate and ignore views to the best of my ability. definitely not easy, especially with the youtube studio stuff you talked about at the end. anyway, we’re all real people, creatives shouldn’t be treated like profit machines, and it’s really messed up that so many people are driven to feel that way.

The only thing I feel that truly stands in the way of anything getting better, is the innate need of comfort. This was an amazing video, and as a fellow artist, I agree with the sentiment completely! I just feel most people rely on the status quo far too much for anything to change. It would take a firm group effort, and not enough people care about things outside of themselves to participate.

This is the commentary channel that has lasted the longest in my brain's dopamine availability cycle, as well as having avoided my insensitivity aversion. Your commitment to giving respectability politics the finger is much appreciated, along with maintaining a unique levity that still knows when to not be funny and acknowledge that stuff sucks. I really appreciate your vulnerability and transparency in this vid.
I think UBI is the only way to fix this. We can't all rely on Advertisers cum Medicis to finance our survival. (btw that was latin, not filth.)
On that tip, what would art be like if no one ever paid an artist? Would we all value our own unique abilities and voices? Would we all create lives for ourselves that resemble who we are as people, rather than cogs in an un-finite industrial machine??
Wait. We already interact directly with value every damn day. Money is the algorithm we need to be fighting. Money is the master of the algo, so that's what we should just ignore. brb gonna go be gay and do crime. jk but welcome to hat Saji!

For the bit around 6:30 - I've been trying to go the route of just creating what I create as a comic artist/graphic novelist for almost 20 years now (not really on RUclips, but sites that have shifted to using similar algorithms like Instagram and now apparently DeviantArt and to a certain extent Tumblr ). I've made almost nothing doing it. The consequence is that I have to keep my day job. I would love to be able to support myself doing art, but then I would have to do things that would get enough views to keep me paid, and I'm not really sure I can do that and enjoy it. Because what gets views as far as art goes is fan art and fan comics of popular media franchises. I don't think there's anything wrong with making these, but if you do original work you ABSOLUTELY get drowned out because you don't benefit from the millions of dollars of marketing a corporation did for a franchise that now comes pre made with its own keywords and fan expectations. People are allergic to original works if you're an unknown creator, no matter WHAT you put into it (to put it in perspective I spent 2 years making a full color comic series by myself and it has like i think 5 people i have confirmed have finished reading it). But I've kinda accepted my fate. I have a scant handful of people who wait for my stuff enthusiastically, and that's actually more than I'd have without the internet. And I think the goal of art is to cause an emotional reaction in another person anyway and I feel like I achieve that here and there. I would LOVE to do that for a living, but realistically I know there's no way for me to make art that will make me a living AND be something that was worth spending my time and money on. I think it would be better if algorithms were actually designed to match people with their interests and not WITH WHATEVER WILL MAKE THEM SCROLL LONGER. Because the few people I've gotten to read my stuff have found it because of luck and then being like "oh space and vampires? Yeah that sounds relevant to to mY interests"
I think the thing that actually frustrates me more than anything is when other artists and creators who benefit from the algorithm have treated me like I'm not a "real" artist because I don't really make anything off of this. I let those opinions roll off of me, but it does irk me because it's like....We can accept that we have to appease the almighty algorithm to make money, without accepting its choices as some immutable universal truth of what defines "real art". Since when does some code decide who is and isn't engaging in a vital form of human expression correctly?

Also it probably hurts young folks more, what the algorithm does, but trust me....The sting doesn't really ever go away the older you get. You just get better at understanding it doesn't mean everything.

It's not only youtube. It's all forms of media that are measured in numbers to determine success, and I believe because of how easy it's become to keep track of these numbers, we're absolutely obsessed. Take film for example. People are obsessed by how well a film does at the box office and if it doesnt do well most people determine it's a bad film even though they might not have seen it. Take elemental for example. People were attacking elemental for doing badly at the box office opening weekend, calling it a disaster movie, a total failure. Was it a bad movie? No. People just jumped the gun way too fast to decide its fate based on numbers. And guess what? The current numbers now reflect that error in judgement. Numbers cant always be a reliable way to measure success, yet we still use them to an obsessive degree.

Amazing conclusion to the video. Funniest fourth wall break I've ever seen. Highly intelligent comedy with an emotional twist at the end. Much like the episode "Fly" from Breaking Bad.
