Seconding this. I feel like there's a fine line between people who have a genuine epiphany and become born again and people who use religion to like, propel their fame even more. Plus celebrities who join cults - not just tom cruise!
I'm not sure he's a great example. Kanye was already deeply religious but wasn't as public about it/didn't have his own 'church", but he developed that public image after the death of his mother. Death and grief do weird, weird things to people, but he was always a devout christian

But I think we're kind of getting at the same point - it's cool that he was always devout, but it takes a certain sort of person to make a commercial brand centred around his own wierd performative version of Christianity. I mean, i think he called himself yeezus for a bit, right? To promote his shoes and his terrible clothes. So like, I see now that he'd always been devout, but at a certain point it became a way for him to stunt. It comes across as bizarre and not genuine, especially takin into consideration the kind of man he is outside of his faith.

When I was younger I did gymnastics. When I quit, I tried Fuse 45 because it seemed intense enough to my training. It wasn’t but I was 25 years younger than everyone there (I was 14) and everyone was a health cult like granola mom talking about how amazing I was. Which is genuinely so uncomfortable. I work at a Marianos in Chicago and he was at our store recently promoting his tequila. Thankfully I was off that day but he was only there for an hour and most people just wanted him to sign autographs and didn't care about the tequila. The next day I go into work and there's also a huge sign in the meat department promoting his burger company Wahlburgers and every department had some sort of promo for a product of his. One of my coworkers said it was like interacting with a manufactured person and it weirded him out lol
