I have watched the movie, Enjoyed it, I personally liked the action sequences more. However, here are my sincere observations on why the movie could have been banned. 1. In beginning Baby Hanuman is portrayed as being tortured by the gods in his attempt to eat the sun in the comic book panel, which in reality was just a curse, that too given by a sage for a prank done by Hanuman ji which broke the sage's years of meditation. 2. In the first 10 min, An individual is seen selling idols of gods saying "Vishnu, Laxmi Shiva 50 Rupees me lelo", drops the sacred idols on ground, later turns out he just stole a bag, and is perfectly alright. 3. A woman protagonist named Sita is introduced, wherein minutes later a guy is putting his hands inside her underwear. This could have been easily be avoided since the name doesnt contribute anything to the storyline except from trying to create an intellectual parrallel with another social commentary remark. 4. In 56th minute, a broken leg Shiva And Parvati Statue is shown (again could have been avoided by just showing a complete statue considering how many peoples sentiments are associated with the very idea of Shiv and Shakti) with a political commentary on LGBTQ community representation & Perspective. (Which i agree with). 5. 1:07:00 minute, a comedic representation of the Epic Ramayana (which might be inspired from the real puppet plays that happen across the country, however there was nothing funny about the content that was being presented). People Laughing at the puppet symbolising Maa Sita getting hit. 7. 1:19:00 Orange/Bhagwa Symbolic Representation of Maybe the current ruling party again. Posters of Save Indian Muslims. Political Commentary at peak. Quick Hyped up montage with slogans of Bharat Mata ki Jay to ramp up the political narrative. 8. 1:31:15 Shiva, Ganesh, Kali shown in maybe ignorant manner. 9. Name of the city is Yatana (Yaatna) 'torture' Hindi translation. Other symbolic representation of culture eg. Raja Ravi Verma paintings in the hall where "villain" is conducting his meeting. Monkey man fights against the authority, is accompanied by Western ukelele, music (which could have been sitar considering the movies overall musical choice) 10. 1:41:00 Raja Ravi Verma's Ram in Sita swayamvar painting, rack focus shift from Ram in the painting to the Sita in foreground covered in blood. (Which again is deliberate, but serves no purpose the story). Hence, These might be the reasons for which it is banned or maybe there are many other too, however when it comes to Anti Hindu ideas being represented in indian cinema landscape, its nothing new, Like u mentioned Adipurush was released which was complete mockery of Ramayana. However, At the same time we as audience should not ignore the attempts that were portryaed in monkey man which might hurt the sentiments of a large population having faith, since it has become a trend to showcase india in poverty, and moral policing the indian culutrual and religious ideologies, so that it would fit with the western perspective of how India should be, and how it should follow its ideas and faith. Apart from that, I really loved the action scenes, and Dev Patel, the actor , has given everything to his performance. Ustaad Zakir Hussain's cameo was just top notch. Anyways, at the end of the day, cinema is subjective, u can love it or hate it. Thats the beauty. Jai Hind. 😊🙏🇮🇳
Logics to utna strong nehi hai ban karne k liye.... Whereas propagandisg movie and demeaning movies like Animal Adipurush aramse got released.... We are heading towards cave age day by day
The funniest thing about all of it is Netflix paid for the movie and then deciced not to release it at all because they didn't want to risk pissing off India. So it already made it's money from being bought once and then resold to Universal Studios. So the message and movie is still out there and rather than just be streaming it got played in actual theaters too. How that's anything but a win for Dev Patel is beyond me. I saw it twice at the theater because it was that good I really like the movies messaging especially the banger of a credits song with which it ends.
CBFC being run by Prasoon Joshi, who has close ties with the "certain party", and how the film depicts them closely, the political aspect has to be the major cause. Also, if we analyse previous historical/mythological releases, people would still find a way to get offended. It's a faithful depiction with a different angle, the difference from Adipurush being a joke with a classic source material which people can still relate to. People don't want to see their gods used in gory media. Pratham bhai W take tho.
Bahut pyaari baat boli bhai, inhe lagta hai movies sirf bache and family dekhenge. Koi adult base hai hi nahi, and the way they allowed Adipurush was just a disgrace
Bro spoke Fact, if any art which supports the Ruling Party will always have an Push from the rulers in any part of the World, same in case if it has opposing views it will be cut to its size, Indian Masses in largesse believes in God Mans, its problem of us, Rulers try to get benefit from these kind of ppl irrespective of Party
There is a scene in the movie which I didn't like, the time when the thief was selling small statues of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Spoilers......The man after stealing the purse, yeets away those statues, just to get away quickly from the crime scene. I think this is highly disrespectful to the Hindu community. I have seen street vendors selling books, but never have I ever seen street sellers sell Hindu Gods like this. Perhaps for the movie, it made sense but including a scene where you show blatant disregard towards the sentiments of the Hindu community is just wrong.
I agree that Dev Patel should have done a lot more research about what happens in India and how people actually pay their respect to gods. Since it's his first directorial debut, not everything can be perfect . All we can expect is that he does more research if he's working on an Indian themed fim next time.
