VW can't make their minds up. They put the new interior using haptic touch buttons for EVERYTHING in the MK8 Golf and new ID.4. But then, they decide to put the MK7 Jetta interior into the NEW Taos. The Taos and Jetta has the best interior ever and I'm surprised and confused on why the newest vehicle to come out for VW has the previous and not next generation interior.
My dream car is a lifted Toyota Wagon. But I ask about wagons to normal people and show them say the Buick Wagon a few years back and they all say its ugly. People think wagons are ugly. Thus they died out. :(
@@JoJoJoker tbh I think the only automakers who could potentially make a successful wagon would be Toyota or Honda. And if the lift them up a bit as well. Corolla, Civic, Camry, and Accord have such a strong grip in the mind set of Americans I think it could potentially do right if advertised right and such. But i doesn't really make since to do so cause it would cut into CUV sales and it is still a huge risk.
Would have been great to see this compared to the SportWagen, which it essentially replaces in the lineup. The SportWagen had slightly greater cargo volume, and I think the pricing was better (also was available with three pedals!)
Yes see my comments a few replies above this. Sportwagen has it all except height. Taos isn't much taller and my 1.8 Turbo is a rocket unlike a 1.5 in the Taos.
Alltrack owner here. The MK7 Golf wagon twins are better. Faster, nicer interior, looks better outside (subjective), nets slightly better fuel economy and fits more stuff inside with the seats down… Plus the modify-ability of the 1.8T blows this 1.5T out of the water, and anything that fits on a GTI or R fits on the wagon (turbo included). Muchhhh better for the car enthusiast but the average person who just wants something new will probably just buy the Taos :/
Can car makers please stop designing fake exhaust vents into the rear bumpers???! Either leave the bumper clean and exhaust tucked under or make them functional..smh
I've been trying to pinpoint what this car is actually based of but apparently it was first released for the Chinese market, still based on the current Tiguan platform. They decided that the Tiguan wasn't appropriate for the US market and so they released a poor spec Tiguan because it is what the US market wants. Great job Volkswagen.
When you're trying to brand a CUV made in Mexico and can't get tacos off your mind, you say "C you later" to C and call it day so you fill yourself with refried beans and tacos.
Looks really practical and I'm sure they'll sell a ton. Really wish it had about ~20-30hp more though. The Corolla Cross will have 169hp and the CX-30 has 186hp.
The Taos has piano black on the right side of the console that reflects clouds (via sunroof), which makes for a really annoying flashing effect. When driving it looks like a warning light flashing on and off randomly.
VW: "Let's build an SUV called Atlas" VW engineers: "ok" vw: "now let's make a smaller one call it cross sport... and another call it tiguan.. and another taos... and another..."
I'll pass. I went down the whole fanboy path with VW for a few short years. Never again. Expensive, frequent maintenance, warranty issues, etc. Of all companies, VW needs to be offering a Hyundai/Kia like warranty. In 2019 the had the "VW peoples first warranty" 6/72 for one year -- and I'm sure they lost their ass.
It seems that VW really tries to focus on a good user experience...... except audio? I really love my audio. Its a shame what they did with the Arteon as well.
Okay, can I ask something here... WHO THE FUCK KEEP BUYING THESE SHIT BOXES! Seriously, and don't say millennials, because they aren't even that cheap anymore! $31,000 for a car that can't get out of its own way, and it set up so poorly that it "needs" AWD to handle a damp road. Fuck me dude, I don't understand when you could get a Civic Hatch, that could do 80% of what you could do with this space wise, and be funner to drive, and be cheaper to run for $23,000. Or better yet, get a Kia K5 which has trunk large enough the Clinton's could hide all their dead bodies back there, or get the new Ford Maverick, which is a truck for about the same money... Who is buying these? Hell, I can go on... $31,000 could be A ecoboost Mustang, A nicely equipped Accord, 2 Nissan Sentras, A Kia Forte GT fully spec'ed out 31 AR-15 Rifles Probably a used F150 and a boat You could buy a whole litter of Golden Retreaver pups and still have enough money for a Civic... WHO THE FUCK BUYS THESE! THEY NEED SHOT
The only point this car has is to teach depreciation to young car buyers. You paid 33 and 3 years later its worth 13 as a trade in.. and needs 7 grand worth of repairs
What the hell was the delay @5:32?? You hear his foot hit the floorboard, and like an entire second later something starts to happen! Hybrid escape is better than this in almost every regard…smooth, consistent power, 40mpg, well-proven drivetrain that doesn’t have direct injection, turbocharger, or dual clutch to worry about, & less expensive to boot. Maybe the hatch area is bigger in the Taos, but that’s about it.

It is Toyota transmission being used in Volkswagen cars nowadays and even in Audi as well. Q3, q7 comes with Aisin 8 speed automatic transmission whereas Q5 comes with dsg. Even with Volkswagen, Tiguan/Atlas and ecobox Jetta comes with Aisin transmission while gli and Taos with awd comes with dsg. Don’t have much experience with dsg but Aisin is smooth transmission albeit lethargic sometimes especially on merging in highway which can be dangerous.

He paid 5K more than I did for a used car with 4X the miles mine currently has accumulated after a year. So yes, it ain't 2021 anymore.
Look at the crash safety reports. Volkswagen makes some of the safest cars on the road. Honda crv is a dressed up fit and the soul is a hamster cage. That's where your money goes.
@@paul5683 Perhaps try driving the Soul. It's well worth the 20K I spent on it. I had the use of a Lexus NX for a while and was actually happy to get back into the Soul.
Back when VW controls actually made sense. The Golf 8s interior controls are dreadful.
I got a 2020 GTI on purpose! Love the controls… exactly where they should be.
If they'd put the 2.0t engine in the Taos as an option, it'd be a really cool vehicle.
Great review, how many mm is your lens during the a-roll of your interior impressions? It looks great
I added a subwoofer to mine, it was a huge improvement. Added a throttle controller which minimized the turbo lag. A new catback and cold air intake. Yes i put some cash into it. But my SEL has more amenities and way fun to drive than any Japanese brand out there.
Just got a 2022 SEL, is this worth doing?
The reason VW doesn't offer the DSG in America is because Americans can't be bothered to change the oil and th clutches would regularly blow out because of this.
you can say the same thing about europeans but those people usually buy peugeots 🤣
That’s hilarious thinking you must be from Germany maybe
@@chocolatewheelchair in Germany we don't play with the safety of cars. When we change the pads the discs have to be changed as well.
Driving 150mph on the highway is no joke. I heard in the US there are some states where you can drive your car without having a technical inspection of the suspension. That's unbelievable.
@@dragospahontu that’s true actually. The regulations whereby you’re from are a lot better. I’ve been out there. It’s much more expansive but things are fairly efficient I guess
@@chocolatewheelchair the Autobahn is the best thing in Germany 😅. Other than that there's not much to do apart from bombing it down the Autobahn.
Its what the original Tiguan used to be before VW made it fat. Just, less engine this time around.
VW can't make their minds up. They put the new interior using haptic touch buttons for EVERYTHING in the MK8 Golf and new ID.4. But then, they decide to put the MK7 Jetta interior into the NEW Taos.
VW, are you just having an identity crisis or do you have different designers for each vehicle? The Taos and Jetta has the best interior ever and I'm surprised and confused on why the newest vehicle to come out for VW has the previous and not next generation interior.
This is what happens when people stop buying station wagons.
My dream car is a lifted Toyota Wagon.
But I ask about wagons to normal people and show them say the Buick Wagon a few years back and they all say its ugly.
People think wagons are ugly. Thus they died out. :(
@@baronvonjo1929 yeah. Chicken & Egg situation; wagons have no marketing support and general second-class treatment by VW & other makers.
Faster, nicer interior, looks better outside (subjective), nets slightly better fuel economy and fits more stuff inside with the seats down…
Plus the modify-ability of the 1.8T blows this 1.5T out of the water, and anything that fits on a GTI or R fits on the wagon (turbo included).
Muchhhh better for the car enthusiast but the average person who just wants something new will probably just buy the Taos :/
Can car makers please stop designing fake exhaust vents into the rear bumpers???! Either leave the bumper clean and exhaust tucked under or make them functional..smh
This looks like European version of Tiguan that VW said u.s. doesn’t want 🙃
Looks like the Seat Ateca we have in Europe, I think Mexico has it as well
Tiguan is much better
I've been trying to pinpoint what this car is actually based of but apparently it was first released for the Chinese market, still based on the current Tiguan platform.
They decided that the Tiguan wasn't appropriate for the US market and so they released a poor spec Tiguan because it is what the US market wants. Great job Volkswagen.
@@thatcopenguy Er, the Tiguan is VW’s best selling model in the USA.
@@thatcopenguy in the UK they have short wheel base, and long wheel base versions of the Tiguan. The Taos is basically the SWB version.
The lag is a VW Audi trait. The price at the higher trim levels, you can start looking at an entry level Q3 with a better engine and more luxury.
But terrible gas mileage in the Q3.

Hey. I used to aspire to a Spark-o-matic! It was sweet.
Looks really practical and I'm sure they'll sell a ton. Really wish it had about ~20-30hp more though. The Corolla Cross will have 169hp and the CX-30 has 186hp.
Corolla Cross is painfully slow though. No fun at all.

Isnt it pricy - you get a decent spec Hybrid Rav4/Hybrid CRV/Forester/Outback for 31K - and all are AWD .
I don’t think so
The Taos has piano black on the right side of the console that reflects clouds (via sunroof), which makes for a really annoying flashing effect. When driving it looks like a warning light flashing on and off randomly.
@ 0:30 "Taos" pronounced incorrectly.
@ 3:42 "Taos" pronounced correctly.
Taos is a ski resort in New Mexico.
Wow if you want people to NOT look at your car as they walk by it, buy one of these. BORING!
I just got it 3 days ago it is amazing 😻 I love it ❤️❤️VW Taos did great job ❤️❤️❤️
What do you think of it?
Cowboy Bepop playist, that's a man of culture.
I tend to believe the 2 litre would have been a better option for this vehicle.
2.0 Honda maybe
1:51 I'll keep it in mind, very useful eco tip. Thanks
VW: "Let's build an SUV called Atlas" VW engineers: "ok" vw: "now let's make a smaller one call it cross sport... and another call it tiguan.. and another taos... and another..."
Bad times for VW when Toyota is getting higher marks for its switchgear...
The base Golf died for this...
Small suvs with little turbo engines are modern day nightmares.
It should have been named "TACOS"....that would have been cooler.
Toyota: CEASE AND DESIST...
$31,000 could be
A ecoboost Mustang,
A nicely equipped Accord,
2 Nissan Sentras,
A Kia Forte GT fully spec'ed out
31 AR-15 Rifles
Probably a used F150 and a boat
You could buy a whole litter of Golden Retreaver pups and still have enough money for a Civic...
WHO THE FUCK BUYS THESE! THEY NEED SHOT
Pay attention other commenters: this is the correct way to gripe.
Dial clutch transmission has a very poor reliability.history.
just bought it beginning to like the behaviour of it after my Passat Jetta and diesel bug, happy>

Rear beam suspension makes me mad every time i see one. What ever car brand, you can just feel it in the back when you have one. They should'nt even exist anymore.
A simple beam gives more boot space though? :) Some IRS systems on economy cars are quite poor and are not necessarily much better.
Most people who buy these cars will never notice.
@@TassieLorenzo i drove a lot of different car in my life and even the cheapest IRS feels better than the best rear beam suspension. Also the difference in trunk space between both suspension is pretty minimal.
This is a disposable car for people who have absolutely no idea what "suspension" is. Or taste.

The 1.4 TSI doesn't have problems from GDI and the timing belt can last well over 100,000miles if you have balls to keep it for that much.

An Aisin transmission!? Isn’t that the same transmission manufacturer that Toyota uses? Hmm…if VW uses Aisin now I think it’s a great thing.
It's becoming hard to keep track of the VW suvs.
In America there are 4 new, the Tiguan, Atlas, Atlas Cross-sport, and the Taos.
For around 20k, this makes sense, but that motor would drive me fucking crazy. Volkswagen should've put their tried and true 2.0T that they put in the GTI in here.
the 1.8 would be perfect
