  • We reviewed a VW Taos a couple years ago, and emerged from the experience not completely satisfied. This time was about the same, even though Charlie and I would choose it over 70% of the segment, for some reason.

    This car makes me happy that I bought a Golf Sportwagen 4Motion. For what it’s worth, I went with the manual because the DSG in the Sportwagen had the same irritating take-off behavior from the line.
    VW, bring us back the Golf Sportwagen/Alltrack!

    Test drive one last year with the dual clutch and there was a dangerous amount of lag when accelerating from a stop. Literally floor the pedal, one one thousand two one thousand and then go.

      I drove one maybe two years ago with the regular automatic and it did the same thing.

      That’s how my sisters 2018 Jetta is. The new jettas have little lag and are smooth. Not sure why they didn’t replicate that in the new Taos.

    I just bought a 2022 SEL for $28k. Window sticker was in the glove box and I was shocked when I saw $38k. I would never pay that price but I am more than happy to have gotten a good deal! Definitely love the car, but not at that sticker price.

    For $37K, you could buy a Nissan Rogue 1.5T that makes more horsepower, more torque, and is rated 37mpg highway with strong smooth launches without the weird jerky launches of the Taos that sometimes acts like a digital on/off switch. Interior of Rogue also has way more soft touch, while the Taos was hard-plastic everything.

    • @myemailiscool
      @myemailiscool Год назад

      The updated engine has made the Rouge a great choice. Wouldn't have considered one with the previous anemic engine.

    • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot Год назад +2

      @@myemailiscool I was originally torn between the CX5 and CX50 as my final two options, but since I was going for a base model, that ruled out the CX50 as they didn't even offer base yet, and I found the base Nissan Rogue S with the 1.5T was more efficient and peppy than the CX5 naturally aspirated base engine. Ditto with the Sportage/Tucson the base 2.5 NA had no torque. Happy so far, average lifetime fuel economy is 32.6mpg with peak of 43.5mpg.

      The rogue has slower acceleration, is less fun to drive, and less reliable.

    "Nobody's going to get it with FWD". Depends on the market. Here in California and also in Florida (where I'm moving soon) I've checked the inventory of many dealerships and the vast majority are FWD SE models. Its a rarity to see an AWD (of any trim) come in. Very few SEL trims which are AWD.

  • @Joe-cy5hm
    @Joe-cy5hm 4 месяца назад

    I think this car is great if you get the SE trim. SEL top trim just costs a bit too much for what it is but still good

      It's tuned different then the GTI. They tried to make it more soft and less sporty.

      @@hunterrrdrives They should've kept the front wheel drive SEL cause it was 30k and no DSG. I agree that its to close in price to the Tiguan which is much better.

      @@hunterrrdrivesat the top trim there’s a price difference, but for the volume SE trim I remember the Taos was literally 1000 less than an equal SE Tiguan, both had AWD.

    Time for VW to take some notes from their own book. They made new golf like a wanabe tesla. Could have been such a great competitor for the mazda3 hatch.
