In 2000, I did a bunch of driving, and I loved the arrows on my Valentine One. If I was going to do a bunch of driving again, I'd probably get a R8 just for the two horns (antennas) and the arrows.

My V1gen1 paid for itself over and over and let me know when I could speed away from a bogey. From watching videos here, it looks like the R8 has everything that the V1gen2 does and more. Been checking the pawn shops for some time for a good radar detector and an R3 was up for grabs at $135 so I jumped on the deal time to say goodbye to the old Whistler.
Joined the forum recently and just installed the R3 SE firmware. I had to order a new mini USB cable since these things are basically obsolete lol. Otherwise, install took less than 5min, including downloading the files. My fav features are the Auto-HWY to Auto-City mode, and the additional K blocks! Highly recommend.
I have both r3 and r4 the range is solid for both the bsm is slightly better on the r4 it's hard to say it's worth the extra money for the r4 both are better than any escorts I've owned even the red line
@@JennErmyMedia Whichever one doesn't break the bank for you. In a car I'd say the R3 is all you need unless you want Arrows telling you where the road pirate is.
Just got my first laser hit. Seemed like he was hitting me multiple times right before I hit a school zone. If I was speeding, this would have given me enough time to turn down a street to avoid getting pulled over. I have a VW Golf R that sits pretty low. My radar detector is mounted right above the dash. Also, happy to finally have police check for speeders. A lot of disrespectful people driving 40mph in the school zone!
You should also do a video on the R7 150 International! I'm in the DMV area (DC, Maryland, Virginia), and it's been great to have addressed the stealth shortcomings of the R7.

Hey vortex, I just got my first radar detector. Went straight for the R3 SE because it sounds pretty good. Not even an hour ago, I upgraded to SE and there are soo many settings. I'm a little confused as to what i should be using, especially with city, highway, adv highway, adv, and I think I saw adv city too but after watching your video i may have misread auto city. What few settings would you recommend I set it to basically fresh out the box? I live in Houston so I go from dense traffic to not so dense traffic fairly often. A list of settings would be great but that sounds like a ton of work, so which mode would you recommend and what %s? I love the content you really helped me decide what to go for
I think one benefit you might have missed in your closing thoughts, was the increased distance for a GPS lockout. The r3 is so sensitive it can pick up reflections from cars that are not on our manual lockouts so we are constantly hunting trying to get that chain of lockouts. I assume the r4 does not have the extended range of R3Se?
A lady that I did some work for had the r3 her brother gave her and she said it didn’t work and I could have it and it’s the best thing I ever put in my ranger I know when any cop is anywhere around me
Awesome video update, i have found an issue with the R4. So i have a 2022 F150 Powerboost i found If u mount the radar directly under the rear view mirror it will constantly throw a false KA alert usually will do it every 30 seconds. I mounted it lower pretty much in the middle of the windshield and it stop throwing the false KA alert. Had to try it again, mounted higher closer to the rear view mirror and it started doing it again. Um not sure why drove me nuts 😂 but it likes it in the middle.
on your website you provided recommendation settings, question: for someone like me that commutes 5-6 days on Freeway does your recommendation apply to the Highway Mode? or on what mode should I be using? Thanks
Great Videos! Had a dilema.. Using R3 and verified latest firmware. When I get false alerts, I hit Mute 2X but it doesn't "White list" it.. It just mutes / unmutes and if I hold, it dims .. Trying to white list some daily areas that constantly go off..Annoying.. Tanx
Nice report, explains all the options. I'm lucky, in my state, no K band. I just run my R3 on City and never have any false. I would like to buy the R7 just for the arrows, but it looks like it takes up a lot of real estate. I don't want something as big as a VCR tape hanging off the glass. #stealthmode
Just curious recently my R3 has been killing my battery in my truck. It never did before but it just started doing this a couple months ago. Obviously sometimes I forget to unplug it so this is becoming a problem. Do you think the up grade will fix this issue? Thanks

Is Uniden going to take the money people spend on this R3 update and use that to continue making it even better with no more fees? I really don't like to now walk into a fee based product if I don't have to.
This is a upgrade that's offered by someone outside of Uniden. He is a great guy with a ton of knowledge with uniden and has made a firmware for the R7 and R3 that make it even more of a beast. He charges a fair price for what your getting with the firmware plus he is always working on updates to make them even better. He doesn't charge you anything but the one time fee for anymore updates you'll only pay once. For myself because this has become more of a hobby I own just about every detector there is and I run the R3 and R7 more now with his firmware update even though I own a R8 R4 V1G2 RL360C and a few more but if you own the R3 it's a worth while investment and you won't be disappointed with it at all

Hi I have an R3 . Drives me crazy when the speed limit is 25 but it keeps sayng im above the speed limit when Im driving 20 to 24 mph. Can this be changed

Vortex neglects to mention this guy is trying to charge people money for his hacked firmware. This is illegal, he doesn't own the rights to the software he's distributing.

Mithheru is trying to get companies like Uniden to make himself and other developers official approval for communities. Since countries like Australia where RD’s are illegal and my only option is from him in NZ which is helping me with Australian updated gps and more. Btw Uniden hasn’t updated its Australian version in 4 years. So this is helpful

You can swap any firmware at will, upgrade or downgrade, first party or third party, etc. I didn’t cover it in the video, but Mithheru offers free upgrades as he releases new versions, as well as a free copy of his R7 firmware if you choose to later upgrade from the R3 to the R7.

I got a custom firmware from Mithheru for my R1. So far it's been pretty much perfect.
Updated to R3SE - easy install and some instant benefits, the Adv-Hwy mode is really nice and versitile, was worth the upgrade alone. Thanks for tip

Biggest thing for me living in VA is detector detector immunity. My R3 has been great for two years now no tickets lol

Do I need to redo your setup instructions for the R3 after updating to the R3SE? His instructions have you do a factory reset, which I did.
Do you have a video explaining the difference between the modes? I have my R3 set to advanced mode at all times but I don't know if I should.

$1000k in Aus/NZ for R3 onwards, completely insane prices, can be cheaper to buy one from the US and import it.

That was the R4/R8 one. It's more compact than the R3 one.
What about possible bugs and bug support in this new firmware? Are we sure this firmware can detect signals just as well as the factory firmware?

As explained at the beginning of the video, this is custom third party firmware for the R3. That’s all. It’s not a different detector.
