- This is one of those purchases that can pay for itself very quickly. So far I'm very happy with the performance, in fact it has been doing some things that I can't even understand! #radardetector #cars #mustang
Im retired LEO.
I hate speed traps. I always felt it was lame policing. All it does is piss off the community.
In LI NY my r3 doesn't get a ton of value, since cops here dont tend to leave their radars on/many use laser. Flew down to TX to visit my brother and we drove between San antonio and Dallas, the amount of KA hits I got with decent early warning definitely made me glad I had it.
I live on Li and was thinking of getting the r3 but I also go to college in Pa, do u think it’s worth it?
Texas also use K band
I have always owned Escort detectors since I started driving but I decided to switch brands after seeing a few comparisons and I have had my R3 for several years and it has saved my bacon many MANY times! It’s got a little burn in on the OLED screen after hundreds of hours of constant operation but it has never failed to alert me to a legitimate radar threat. I keep speed selective muting on in the city to keep false alerts quiet at low speeds but still offers amazing range on highways. I’m thinking of upgrading to an R7 and pass the R3 to my son but I just can’t see replacing something that still works so well. I changed the K tone to a click to keep the annoyances down for construction radar but I had a bunch of false alerts for laser in Nebraska (never saw a bogie) on a recent road trip and I am seeing more MRCD alerts in some areas after the latest updates and I don’t always see a radar vehicle. I am not a scofflaw that likes to speed excessively but I have always seen a detector as a tool, just like wayz and gps, that help me be aware of road conditions and allow me to arrive safely. I drive a lot of secondary highways that go through little towns with progressive speed limits and it’s really easy to get distracted and hit one of these with cruise control on and this has kept me alert of my surroundings many times. I highly recommend this detector.
Thanks for the recent video. I've been looking into it but all the reviews where years old.
Great review I just purchased one … thanks!
Just bought one, hopefully it pays for itself. Got a ticket going to work the other day. I was the only one on the road and the officer was hiding in the bush. I was so upset because it felt like a trap. They were painting lines in the middle of the day miles back holding everyone up. Causing traffic. I thought I could make up some time since I was already late. 😂
So does it work brother? Let me know!
@@FAD3D_Sloth151 I opted for the R4. Gave the R3 away. They are both really good detectors. I chose the R4 because it auto mutes repetitive false signals. I've only encountered one patrol since I installed and it alerted before I saw him which was good. He was moving from left to right on the other intersecting road on emergency. It alerted before I heard the sirens. So far I think it's great, especially hardwired to the car.
@@antonyh37 what are your settings for the r4? mine comes tomorrow
@@logansutton222 I left it on highway. Still learning about it. Highway is the most sensitive setting. Make sure you hook it up to your computer to update the firmware before use. My firmware wasn't.
You can upgrade the firmware to the custom SE software, and it will significantly quieten down false K Band alerts. Well worth it.
Available on the RDforum site. I have it on my R3 and believe me, its a game changer for the R3.
You need to update that unit 163
Was it easy to update?
how did you get the discount? like where did you find it
Got a used one on eBay for 194 with shipping and taxes includes
what r3 settings do u use? i followed many instructions and configurations but i get many false alerts and no actual alerts
Insane that these are still essentially $300
Uniden R7 and R8 are much better than the R3
It does not detect laser/lidar
The eagle eye is for laser detection! If an officer fires his laser gun at your vehicle then “games up” and too late to slow down!
Thanks because this sounded like a simple wholesome review about the product. Thank you for being honest about the false alerts and the drawback to the menu options. I am looking to go back to radar detectors after years since I am back in the muscle car game and actually got a warning this morning at a speed trap in my neighborhood. Didn't want a radar detector that was going to break the bank.
Great video. Maybe you can call tech support and ask them how to extend your display menu choice before it times out...even if you have to send it to them to program.
Where did you buy your factory recertified one?
Same question
He more ot less says 225.00
Probably ebay
Been running the R3 for 4yrs now and it's a beast when set properly which you can find from Vortex. Just moved it to the wife's ride and now running R7. Couldn't believe how much better the R3 was than another escort unit I had that cost 2.5x as much. Uniden has RD figured out. Escorts have some great features but they don't update or do anything after they release units which sucks.
Find from Vortex? Do you have a link or something I can follow to help set it up?
@@TheBladen vortexradar has tons of videos on YT and is also active on RDForum. Best option to find your answers as there's a lot to go through
I was impressed how it detected laser. Interesting thing was the cop kept hitting me with laser so I don’t know if it was because my car is a 2023 Golf R and is small and hard to get a reading. I never had a radar detector detect laser before like my the r3 however my car is low to the ground and my R3 is positioned just above my dashboard. I try to get my detector as low as possible.
It does not detect laser/lidar
@@anoopg7118 It did for me. My car sits low, I dont have an SUV and I mount my detector as low as I can go. He was hitting me several times to see if I was going to lower my speed once I got passed the 20mph speed zone. R3 said Laser.
