Love my R4! Got it on sale for less than $300 bucks.. Keep debating on upgrading to the R8 but can’t justify the price for some arrows and little bit of extra range. Maybe when the R10 comes out I’ll get that but as of now the R4 is a great radar detector that doesn’t break the bank
i originally bought the old uniden r3 , had it for like two days and went back to exchange it for a r7.... once i got the arrows, i haven't looked back. but congrats, uniden make perhaps the best radars at price and performance.
I have had the R4, now have an R8. Once you have the arrows you cannot go back. For example, the R8 will show multiple arrows simultaneously, and with signal strength for each as well. For example, you drive past a cop, there is an arrow pointing behind you. Up ahead and out of view, two other cops, with two arrows showing ahead. You continue to stay cautious, and sure enough the two cops appear up ahead around the crest. The R4 would have just been beep beep beep and you thought you cleared danger but you didn't. There are many examples like this... Once you experience it it is so hard to go back.
Very good video for newbies to understand the features and usage of the uniden r4. The app integration is really key wit modern Radar locators. The ability to log events is really helpful as well as crowd sourced alerts.. Thanks for the tutorial!
Does it ever false alert mrcd? I get a mrcd warning on one rd for about a mile always but didnt think we had any mrcd here. People pass me like Im setting still on that rd also.
Cops haven't been using much radar around here since Covid and all the crazy red light runners started not caring how they drive anymore. Sold my R7. Still have my R3, a Radenso, and a Uniden. Dont harldly use them anymore but I do like the R3.
It’s incredible to me that Australia is current without a detector option against our camera trailers. The ds1 doesn’t see them and the 360c has been pulled from the market. Nothing is seemingly being done
@@VortexRadar we need help. In one state alone in a space of 12 months these camera racked up 10 million in revenue. This was achieved by placing them in the most ridiculous of locations with tolerances we have never seen before.
I recently purchased my first radar detector and decided to go with the R4; my only disappointment is its 12V charge adapter: It's a very tight fit and difficult to pull out -and on older cars like my late-2000s Honda, the plug's wider corcumference means it does not insert all the way). Not what I expected for a few hundred dollar product; seems they avoided mentioning this on the website. I told Uniden I'm willing to pay the difference to upgrade to a hardwire adapter and I'll send back the old one.
Are these the only two apps that work with the R4? Because I tried to hook it up to my Escort Live and drive smart with no luck and I cannot hook it to my phone either.
Escort apps are only compatible with Escort detectors. For Uniden detectors, there’s R4 Companion and V1Driver for iOS as well as Highway Radar on Android.

Yes in my opinion the R3 still a great radar detector. I had it for a couple years and traded it in for the R4. I’d go for the R4 if you can afford the extra hundred bucks give or take. R4 always seems to go on sale on Amazon for like $80 bucks more than the R3. Can’t go wrong with either one
I have both and my R3 running the Mitheru R3SE firmware works really well. I suggest buying that from the rd forum to close the gap between the R3 & R4.

I recently returned from a trip from Kansas to Colorado. My R4 worked flawlessly. Depending on the terrain, it picked up cops running radar anywhere from over a mile away to 3 and even up to 5 miles away. It’s the best radar detector I’ve ever owned. I just wish it was 100% true stealth. But other than that it’s awesome. And you just can’t beat it for the price. Escort should be ashamed of their radar detectors in comparison. I’ve purchased my last Escort radar detector. That company is a joke. I bought my R4 at Best Buy for just over $300 on sale a while back. I also use R4 companion and it integrates perfectly with the R4. It’s well worth the $10 for the app on iOS. I have this mounted above my visor with a visor mount i purchased from eBay so it’s also well hidden in my Mazda. Using the R4 with R4 companion and Waze is a trifecta of awesome counter-measures. I can’t say enough good things about the R4. Great job Uniden. I highly recommend this detector.
Vortex, I got a speeding ticket in Pennsylvania on the 4th of July using ENRADD (Electronic Non Radar Device) which uses wireless infrared transmitters placed 3 feet apart to calculate your speed. Can anything defeat ENRADD? Was Waze my best defense?
I really like my R4. No complaints from here. I would like to get an R8 eventually, but it is pricey. The R8 has the nice bells and whistles but does it really protect you from a ticket any better than the R4?

Yep. I have spots that trigger it every time so I use lockouts for those locations.

Thinking of upgrading from my MAX 3 to an R4 or 7. My max 3 failed to pick up LiDAR, but I suppose it’s pretty hard to pick up anyways
For sure. If you need lidar protection, you’ll want to add a laser jammer, not switch RDs.

I thought about it, but until Escort addresses some critical alert issues on the Max 4, I wouldn’t feel comfortable running or recommending it.

It’s basically a smaller R8 with no arrows at about half the price.
As vortex said, its basically an arrowless R8. If you don't need/want arrows, the R4 is a good option to save a good chunk of change.
