Definitely want to see that interview. 77Ghz is where the WABCO collision warning systems on class 8 (semi) trucks operate. These systems constantly transmit and tell the driver the speed of the vehicle in front of it at all times. These systems have been standard equipment on the most popular OTR trucks sold in the US, including the Freightliner Cascadia, Volvo VNLs and Kenworth T680. That'll be fun to try to filter out.
I can tell you that Genevo worked quite nice for copied from NeoLine detector. But it worked in Europe, don't know how it will be with filtering in USA.
I have had the Genevo LT One Plus M for a long-time. A great Radar Detector. Since the Launch of Guard77, thinking about updating my radar detector to that one. In my country, unmarked police cars have started using Turkish technology (W band) that my current radar detector cannot catch. If all the tests and calibrations with the Guard77 are going to work, definitely going to upgrade mine. Police thought they were slick, well, Genevo backfired at them :)))
Back in the 80’s I was big into radar detectors. I had three over those years, the ESCORT was the best. One was stolen and two were confiscated by the cops. I haven’t had a speeding ticket since 1995, getting old does have its advantages ha ha..

I have an older valentine V1 and suffer with tons of false alerts in town, but on the highway it’s amazing… but false alerts on cars with side mirrors radar and some vehicles keep sending out their rear radar always. I missed the opportunity a few years ago to send it in for 100 bucks and get it totally updated. They’ve done away with that. It cost prohibitive as is the price of a V2. I wish there was a way to add some apps to make it more versatile for me. I have the remote display and I catch the power in my glove box.
No new RxW announcements from Uniden at SEMA. I bought an R8 on Woot, but returned it right before SEMA. The new version will of course launch at some point, but the same sale is back, and I’m debating if I should just reorder the R8 again.
On the newest R7 firmware 1.51 update, you'll need to also update the GPS with a BIN file. I'm guessing it's doing some sort of update to the PIC chip for the GPS! It would be really nice if you could do a step by step on this process, it was a little tricky for me doing the GPS update, not sure why!
It's either integrated with the firmware update file or a separate bin file, designed to update the red light cam / speedcam database. I've done a "how to update" video multiple times. Feel free to search for one of the newer videos if you like.
@@VortexRadar Hey Thanks for the info! I Love your videos and have been a radar detector guy since the original Escort from 1980. Now I'm a Uniden R7- R8 guy, Wish I could afford the R9 but O WELL. Keep up the good work!
More detectors need to add Bluetooth. There are so many reasons for this! My two main reasons are 1) for motorcycle use so I can hear the warnings inside my helmet. If you want to go really tech one that would synch and work with heads up displays that you can get in certain helmets. 2) when in my car I would like them to connect to my ear pieces, so my passengers don’t have to hear it or obvious interruption of a conversation between passengers and myself.
Man I REALLY want that Mazda K Blk 3 on the R4 its by far my biggest source of falses. but @vortex I saw your testing with the K guns, and IIRC your guns was spot on 24.124, so at least it could be dangerous with THAT gun.
That's a super dangerous frequency to block, I've seen numerous K-band guns right at 24.124. I could see reducing sensitivity in that exact frequency range but blocking it entirely is going to cost you eventually. Damn Mazda...ugh
Any advice on how to get a replacement display module for an older Max Ci 360? Going through Escort you need to be an AD and I did the installation myself several years ago. The display is no longer clear and barely legible and I would like to purchase a replacement just for the wired display.
Great channel, love your videos! I can't seem to find one video comparing the volume of the different detectors. Based on the advice you gave in one of your videos, I purchased the R3 but it's not very loud. Any advice on, or do you have any videos comparing the volume of the alerts? Thanks!!
That’s not something I’ve ever compared. You can compare max volumes, how easy alerts are to hear over the music, reliability (some speakers used to blow when run at max volumes for extended periods of time), use apps to pipe out audio to other sources, etc. Just not something I’ve ever wanted to devote time to. Lots of other people could do that if they wanted though.
Your videos are always educational and helpful. I've found that using your recommendations for the R7 setting was a great choice for me, so thank you. May I ask a question? After updating my Mac iOS, the Uniden tool on Mac seems to be underperforming. Have you encountered this issue?
Stinger is working on additional W band antenna which can be added to the VIP. No need to run all kinds of systems. Just get one modular system. "Future proof"

I bought one from a buddy and he lost the mount that came with it so he used a magnetic phone mount and put one of the metal plates that come with it on the bottom of the detector and that’s how he had it in his car. Would that affect anything? I ordered a hardwire kit and looking at a mirror mount
Settings for the Ri paid $440 for the R7 just had it hardwired and now getting the bend mount for it. Is it worth the purchase, I see they keep updating the R7.

I just plugged my Uniden R7 in to check for updates and it's still on version 146, not 151 as you stated. Did I hear you wrong? Is the 151 version a third party undate?
Any hope that valentine one G2 will have mrcd/mrct detection? Unfortunately many radars are based on mrcd/mrct which Valentine one G2 can't detect them ... I believe Genevo Max is the best
As an owner of a R-8 and R-4 but not the owner of a computer, what are the possibilities of an app by Uniden being created to allow the detectors to be plugged into an Android phone to download new versions? Is this even feasible?
My R3 won't switch to auto dimmer anymore after the last update. I factory reset it and it worked for a couple of days then started not auto dimming again.
I run both in different cars. The arrows is the big difference but if I was buying just one, it'd be the R4. Just as good at detection, smaller, cheaper.
It's a shame how Radenso completely fell off the radar. You dont hear anything from them anymore. They were so vocal with the launch of the DS1 and then all the development talks about Theta and then nothing. Complete silence...
So here's a problem I had with my Redline 360c last month. I was cruising down I-90w in New York close to the Pennsylvania state line when a New York State Trooper shot me with laser. The radar detector never even made a peep, didn't go crazy and say laser like it normally does, never detected it. I had been down in Alabama about 2 weeks earlier and I was hit with laser more than once and it went off every time. Now I understand that when I get shot with laser without laser jammers they already have my speed before I can slow down, but the notice is always nice. I had never been shot with laser in NY (or at least to my knowledge) up until this point. But the detector not going off kind of screwed me because I couldn't see the trooper as he was bush whackin and I never even slowed down. Caused me to get a ticket for 81mph in a 65mph zone. So that was nice... makes me want to get rid of the Escort and get a Uniden. I have over $1,000 in this detector because I had it sent in for repair about a month before this. So I just gave them $230 to fix a non detection problem coming from the rear. Then A MONTH later it doesn't alert me to laser. I am NOT impressed right now. Makes me wonder if this is some new kind of laser gun that it can't detect? Ticket says I was hit with a laser model Tru-Speed. I can't even get ahold of Escort over this problem. I call their customer support and it goes to voicemail. My rant is over I am just annoyed when I have well over a thousand dollars into a radar detector that is supposed to have laser detection then it doesn't detect laser. Oh and I have 3 of these things, awesome.
Sorry you’re finding out the hard way but radar detectors are the wrong tool for laser. What you experienced is very common. You need a laser jammer to go with your radar detector.
@@VortexRadar Yeah but still should alert me and say I was hit no? It always has in the past. I am putting money into laser jammers after this for sure though.
@@printingwithpeek4897it still should have detected and sounded a laser alert Bro. I have the Redline and it’s better than my Max360. The best part of Escort is the crowd source and it’s speed camera database
haha use the K Block for 24.123-24.124. You can start with a low number for sensitivity like 1.0 or something and if you get a false, raise the threshold up a bit. Keep going up until the falses all go away.
I bought two DS1s when they first came out. They are nice little detectors and work well but I'm pretty miffed about the lack of support and updates from Radenso. If I had known they would basically just disappear after releasing them I would have gone with Uniden. I won't ever buy another Radenso product after all the talk about future features and updates and then basically ghosted all their customers. For instance they said they planned on a FW update to allow you to run the detector upside down so you could use the top mounting hole on the bottom which would be great for the one on my bike. That update never came and probably never will now.
Anyone else's Escort Live stopped getting PSLs both in the app and in the detector? I updated it. But it just shows dashes in the app and in the detector. 6 month old Max 360 MkII.
I’m a complete noobie with detectors and purchased a Valentine gen1 v2. I updated the firmware already. Is using the V1 companion app worth it? Do I use it at the same time as the V1 connection app?
lol yeah that was me! Went up for the Sounders / White Caps game. We were I guess some of only a few Sounders fans there and they kept scoring so they showed us cheering lol.
I don’t understand what part of adding a kblock for the Mazda cx5 took the R7 team like 4 years. Is it more complicated than just writing If(freq. = CX5kblockRange) Then don’t alert
When’s additional testing going to be done on V1’s 1035 update? There’s been very minimal feedback on it and with varying degrees of likes/dislikes. It’s impossible to know if the update is good when nobody is doing any credible tests with it. Hell, even Bloovy hasn’t updated the firmware thread with it, so that doesn’t speak volumes for it. Some people say it’s good, others say it’s causing more K noise. So what gives?
The website has the best up to date information: "The pre-order and official release date for Radenso Theia is still not set due to the global parts shortage caused by COVID-19. Please sign up for the e-mail list above to be notified when pre-orders begin." 😂
6:58 Re: 1.51 the K-block levels automatically change to match the selected mode when changing between highway and city modes. ~This can't be set to be done. It's automatically done.
The Escorts are traditionally the best for that, depending on which stereo you get, but I wouldn’t necessarily pick the detector for that reason alone.
Glad my r7 is getting more love than r8 glad i didnt buy that almost did. Kinda want a detector just incase driving in VA i get caught with one. dunno which one tho?
REGARDING THE VALENTINE ONE PRODUCT: I own a V1G1 and want to upgrade to V1G2. I sent an e-mail to Valentine One with a rather complex question(s). That was a week ago. No reply. Nobody answers the phone there either. I understand that the entire company personnel are mourning. Maybe somebody here can reply. These questions have to do with those YOUR SPEED radar-equipped signs along the side of the road. Between my home and my workplace, there are 15! Six are facing one way and 9 are facing the other way. So during my commute to work, for example, I get 6 false alarms with an up arrow, plus 9 false alarms with a down arrow, and the opposite indications during the drive home. Very frustrating. And it gives me "alarm fatigue", which could set the stage for being pulled over. That's because once in a while a police car is parked nearby one of these YOUR SPEED signs, or halfway between two of these YOUR SPEED signs. Alarm fatigue would definitely result in being pulled over. Can the V1G2 eliminate all the YOUR SPEED signs detection alarms during my commute? I am guessing that here's how that could be accomplished . . . My presumption is that the V1G2, along with a 3rd party cellphone app, can do this as follows (I'm only speculating). First, the locations of these YOUR SPEED signs are all known, fixed positions. So GPS coordinates can be determined. Second, and this is were I am really guessing . . . each YOUR SPEED sign emits a slightly different radar frequency, so the adjacent YOUR SPEED signs don't get "confused". And also presumably, any police near YOUR SPEED signs can manually adjust their radar to a different frequency in order to trap a driver who is ignoring the YOUR SPEED signs. I believe the 3rd party cellphone app will display the frequency of the radar being detected. If the YOUR SPEED signs locations and frequencies are meticulously entered into the 3rd party cellphone app, then perhaps all 15 signs along my route can be made "invisible" to the V1G2. Only the police radar will then trigger the V1G2. I doubt the YOUR SPEED signs radar frequency gets changed ever. That's my other assumption. Am I close to being correct? If so, then I will trade up. If not, then I cannot justify the expense. I've got a BlendMount, and rearview mirror tap for power. I am very serious about this. Thank you for reading and for commenting! Another question just arose. These YOUR SPEED signs seem to emit multiple simultaneous radar frequencies. Whenever I approach one, my V1G1 shows between 2 and 4 on the Bogey Counter. When there is one YOUR SPEED sign on the left side of the road and another on the right side of the road, the Bogey Counter displays between 4 and 8! How might this impact my intended plan of entering all the GPS coordinates and radar frequencies of every YOUR SPEED sign along my commute in order to make them all "invisible" to the V1G2 (should I purchase one)? Thanks everyone. I hope the Mr. Valentine's family and his ValentineOne family are all OK. Best wishes to everyone.
Yes I’ve responded previously when you brought this up. Look up the apps with GPS lockouts like JBV1 or Highway Radar on Android as well as V1Driver and V1Companion on iOS. They’re specifically designed to handle these exact situations.
random question, but as some of the radar detectors you mentioned are angled toward the drivers seat on the left hand side of the car, is there models for countries (e.g. where i'm from) that have the steering wheel on the right, that flip the screen towards the drivers view on the opposite side of the car?
In NZ, we suffer from this same issue being a RHD country, but you can still use the likes of the V1 Gen 1 & 2 and the Uniden R7 & R8 and it's still completely legible reading the displays albeit a bit inconvenient. If you want something that is more designed for you then something like the Uniden R3, R4 or Genevo MAX which have straight displays would be an ideal choice. Maybe one day RHD markets will get some love with an angled option towards us!
It’s funny how whenever I mention anything about international detectors, and even if I explicitly say that I don’t test or review them because they don’t make sense here, I get lots of requests to do so anyways. I really wish more people would take the initiative to test and share info like that. I can’t do everything for everyone, even if I wanted to.

Doesn’t look like it. www.uniden.info/download/index.cfm?s=R1
It's a shame how Radenso completely fell off the radar. You dont hear anything from them anymore. They were so vocal with the launch of the DS1 and then all the development talks about Theta and then nothing. Complete silence...
Bluetooth is fast enough for wireless lidar jamming? That's interesting - I'll have to hunt through your archives to see how prior units fared.
A friend of mine told me that some bling spot monitoring systems now use Ka band frequencies. Is that true? Just wondering....
@Grizzly50450 Why can't you read? Bro. A radar detector isn't going to be as equipped as a laser jammer which is designed for laser specifically.
@@printingwithpeek4897it still should have detected and sounded a laser alert Bro. I have the Redline and it’s better than my Max360. The best part of Escort is the crowd source and it’s speed camera database
@PeakedHill No it shouldn't have. A laser and a sound wave are two separate modes of transfer. You have no idea of what you're talking about.
Cool new radar detector 😊
Hi Ariel, sure the interview is more than interesting if you have the opportunity to do so
But where's Theia ;)
I'd forget about it at this point, as it's just a pipe dream.
ROFLMAO. Beat me to it.
Theia better come out before GTA 6
It's apart of the DoD. It will not be available to the public anymore.
@@saltysteel3996 No it's not.
For the R7 new update can you give us the whole advance setup? I have a Mazda cx 5 so it's really annoying lol.
haha use the K Block for 24.123-24.124. You can start with a low number for sensitivity like 1.0 or something and if you get a false, raise the threshold up a bit. Keep going up until the falses all go away.
is spending 5.4k install and uniden r9 unit too expensive for professionals to install?
I bought two DS1s when they first came out. They are nice little detectors and work well but I'm pretty miffed about the lack of support and updates from Radenso. If I had known they would basically just disappear after releasing them I would have gone with Uniden. I won't ever buy another Radenso product after all the talk about future features and updates and then basically ghosted all their customers. For instance they said they planned on a FW update to allow you to run the detector upside down so you could use the top mounting hole on the bottom which would be great for the one on my bike. That update never came and probably never will now.
i really think Uniden should put auto sensitivity on the r7, i would love it and I'm everyone else would too,
Thank you 😎👍🏻
Anyone else's Escort Live stopped getting PSLs both in the app and in the detector? I updated it. But it just shows dashes in the app and in the detector. 6 month old Max 360 MkII.
I’m a complete noobie with detectors and purchased a Valentine gen1 v2. I updated the firmware already. Is using the V1 companion app worth it? Do I use it at the same time as the V1 connection app?
Yep! Very helpful to run with the V1
Hey @vortex is there any new update coming up for the escort max 3 ?
Sorry, my crystal ball is broken. 😄 You can always ask Escort.
Thank you for the update video. Spinner
Can any of these detect unmarked vehicles.
Given that they’re radar detectors and not police car detectors, it depends on if the unmarked vehicles are transmitting radar or not.
@@VortexRadar Do unmarked police vehicles emit radar?
My R8 better be 100% upgradable via software upgrade. Or I'm trading mine in with my BesBuy warranty for a new unit when that time comes soon!
Is there a update for Uniden Dfr7 mines don’t even detect ka or k anymore lasted a week and stopped
Think I saw you on screen at a recent sporting event in Vancouver. Go sounders
lol yeah that was me! Went up for the Sounders / White Caps game. We were I guess some of only a few Sounders fans there and they kept scoring so they showed us cheering lol.
I don’t understand what part of adding a kblock for the Mazda cx5 took the R7 team like 4 years. Is it more complicated than just writing
If(freq. = CX5kblockRange)
Then don’t alert
Lol
When’s additional testing going to be done on V1’s 1035 update? There’s been very minimal feedback on it and with varying degrees of likes/dislikes. It’s impossible to know if the update is good when nobody is doing any credible tests with it. Hell, even Bloovy hasn’t updated the firmware thread with it, so that doesn’t speak volumes for it. Some people say it’s good, others say it’s causing more K noise. So what gives?
I can't believe it no update on Theia....😂
It's a mythical as the mother of the moon it's named after :)
It's a DoD contract now.
Will never come out for civilians.

6:58 Re: 1.51 the K-block levels automatically change to match the selected mode when changing between highway and city modes. ~This can't be set to be done. It's automatically done.
How does it work exactly? I was reading the changelog notes, but I don’t get exactly how it works.
@@VortexRadar I tried to respond with an explanation including a link and RUclips keeps removing it.
Do you prefer the R3 paid firmware from the forums still? That what I run on mine.
For the R3? 100%
Is TMG doing anything for updated firmware/software? They sure don't seem to give a damn.
Would like to know which detector integrates best with car stereo
The Escorts are traditionally the best for that, depending on which stereo you get, but I wouldn’t necessarily pick the detector for that reason alone.
Glad my r7 is getting more love than r8 glad i didnt buy that almost did. Kinda want a detector just incase driving in VA i get caught with one. dunno which one tho?
Just when I get an r4 they slow down updating it and make a new version, looks like I’m gonna sell it and get the new one.
REGARDING THE VALENTINE ONE PRODUCT:
I own a V1G1 and want to upgrade to V1G2.
@@VortexRadar Much apologies because I must have missed your response. I will look up these apps. Thank you!!
I just got the R8 brand new on Woot for $549
random question, but as some of the radar detectors you mentioned are angled toward the drivers seat on the left hand side of the car, is there models for countries (e.g. where i'm from) that have the steering wheel on the right, that flip the screen towards the drivers view on the opposite side of the car?
Not that I’m aware of, but I’m also by no means an expert with alllll the different Radar detectors around the world.
Valentine offers a remote display that you can put wherever you want.
@@mattmanyam i was thinking more of the unidens but thanks for the info
nice, i heard it's wonderful in NZ and you guys have more sheep than people right?
I would like to see an interview with Valentine first employee.
Just got pulled over by police for being subscribed to this Channel 😢
Can you test the Neoline 8700 S
It’s funny how whenever I mention anything about international detectors, and even if I explicitly say that I don’t test or review them because they don’t make sense here, I get lots of requests to do so anyways. I really wish more people would take the initiative to test and share info like that. I can’t do everything for everyone, even if I wanted to.
What’s the best way to contact you? I asked a question a week ago below!!
Sir, it’s not realistic for me to respond to every single question. I used to try and it didn’t go well.

R7 version 1.51 update and now random GPS errors. Any ideas about that?
