Perhaps the saleperson could interest you in a nice SUV. The ride height of those might be more to your liking. The problem you describe is caused by the ES being a body style often called a "sedan."
Engineering Background here coming form my reliable Toyota Camry. What are the advantages of going with F Sport Handling vs the luxury non F sport? I don't mind $49,000 but I might get it a couple of years used so I could get it for $35,000. If I get the Luxury it will be cheaper but it will come with leather seats and wood grain. I would have to put in leather seats and wood grain if I go with the F sport handling. F sport won't make your ES turn into a Maserati or a Porsche. I do like the front and rear stabilizer bar on the F sport handling.
The advantage is handling, but many testers have said the ride penalty isn't worth it, including C/D and Savagegeese. This isn't a performance car at its core.
When Lexus first came out they actually advertised it as equivalent to a Rolls. People actually believed that and the first LS500 (I think) was at that level. But no longer. Still good, but not quite. The original cars were built for the luxury older market. They were never designed for the road racers and people to transport 2by4's. Lexus owners had other people deliver the materials. The biggest design criteria/consideration at that time was SILENCE. The early models were "as quiet a a Rolls". But not quite anymore. The seats not folding down is a vestige of that. It remains, like us humans once had tails. Now we don't but the origin is still there. You will know when you fall on your rear end. The seats are like that to keep them "sealed". No cracks for sound reduction. That mutes road noise intrusion into the cabin. As to the F-sport, that is an abomination foisted on Toyota/Lexus by a never ending chorus of motor journalists that insisted on "performance". That resulted in Toyota surrendering to the baying hounds and now we have a non sporty car trying to be sporty. It doesn't work. It defeats the concept and I suggest to stay away from the F-sport thing. It was never meant for Lexus and was added in under duress. And it shows. Like that extra room you add on to your 30 year old house. It works, but does it really? Someone will still buy the house though. My suggestion to Toyota. Give us the normally aspirated V6 with rear wheel drive with a limited slip diff. Build it like you do, and see sales go through the roof. A man can dream eh!
I agree with your basic premise that Lexus is not about performance, but some of your facts are not quite correct. First, I have no recollection of Lexus ever promoting the original LS 400 with noise comparisons to Rolls-Royce; I only remember Ford's LTD doing that in the 1960s. Lexus's (unstated) real target was Mercedes-Benz. Second, the reported (and apparently actual) reason for the ES's non-folding rear seat is to reduce NVH, but but not because it's "sealed"; in fact, due to the presence of a ski pass-through, it is not. The reason is because the ES adds a trapezoidal structural brace behind the rear seatback that blocks most of the opening. (This is why the ski pass-through is the size it is, instead of full-sized.) The brace indirectly reduces noise by increasing structural rigidity, but in a different way than you suggest. Third, Lexus did almost exactly as you suggested, building a sporty and powerful luxury sedan with a naturally aspirated V6 and rear wheel drive. It was the GS, and it died ignominiously with U.S. sales 20 times smaller than those of the ES.
Tomatoes, Tomaytose. How old are you? I was living in South Africa when Lexus was launched. They built brand new SEPARATE dealerships for one car. And said it was the BEST CAR IN THE WORLD. "Whisper quiet" was the word they used, " like a Rolls Royce". And priced it accordingly. Maybe your American experience doesn't always account for everything. I am sure it was different here. Thanks for the rear seat explanation. I'll give you that. I used the word "sealed" in inverted commas. Loosely, so people can understand. You saw that right? The secret here is more or less noise. Not noise and no noise. @@tonysterbenc
@@mlo5083 To answer your question, I'm old enough to have clear, adult personal memories of Lexus's launch in 1989. I paid attention to it in great detail, so much so that I clearly recall predicting to a colleague on a business flight that Lexus would cut Mercedes' US sales by half in Year One (they did not, but in Year One they did equal Mercedes' US sales themselves). I also own and have read the book Lexus: The Relentless Pursuit, a history of the brand and its products, as well as numerous other sources between then and now. I don't know how Lexus was advertised in South Africa, and neither of us knows how it was advertised in Belgium, but I do know how it was not advertised in the new brand's principal target market, the US. I never disputed the "best car in the world" part of your claim one way or the other, only a callout by name of Rolls-Royce. As for your quasi-admission about the back seat, you're welcome.
@@mlo5083 One impressive part you got right: Yes, they built a whole chain of separate dealerships for the LS's debut as a 1990 model (although, in the US at least, they hastily added a lightly massaged Camry as the ES 250 so those dealers had a more affordable sidekick to sell). There were other notable distinctions about those dealerships, too. For one thing, Toyota took the opportunity of the new brand to hold the dealers to stricter conduct standards than the industry had ever seen, right down to naming the dealerships after their municipality rather than after themselves so they'd be easy to find. For another, Lexus supported those dealers and cars with the industry's first nationwide computerized parts network. I owned a German car at that time and waited a week for my dealer to scour the nation by phone for a $20 part. After Lexus, never again.
Because you're basically wrong. They took the 3.5 from the RX when they changed over to the new model. They're taking the 3.5 from the ES when they change it over later this year.
When they released it, Car and Driver described it as "a wonderfully elongated form... quietly dramatic... you're likely to actually remember seeing it." Sounds like your opinion isn't unanimous.
What's your point? Most automakers have a 5 or 6 year cycle for new models now, just like this one. Besides, if you don't like this one, the new one is less than a year away, so what's the problem?
@@johnconnors5123 Agree 100%, and I put my money where my mouth was. I waited out the '21's for the '22s that debuted the touchscreen. And in '23 they overhauled the entire system.

You could buy 4 ls500s or 8 ESs for the price of a rolls
Super nice #ES350
I still can't decide between the Is 350 F sport or the E350 F Sport Design!! Someone help!
How much interior space do you prefer?
ES is prettier.
Don’t hurt somebody holding the steering wheel like that.
Just a recommendation : can you please 🙏 talk slowly?
can you listen faster?
@@esteban1487 no , because English is not my native language.
You can turn the playback speed down
Why try to drive it like a race car??! That’s not what it is….
I hope their rain sensing wiper system is better than Ford's. Ford's is downright infuriating
Mine worked great this past week!
I have them and they are "OUTSTANDING"
They are good but sometimes not quick enough when the heavy rain begins to fall. Have to manually adjust to a faster speed.
The are out standing
Have on our 2024 Ultra Luxury model . Wiper’s work flawlessly in rain sensing mode.
So they took 3.5 from RX and left it in ES? I do not understand it. RX is bigger and needs it. Do not see logic here.
Because you're basically wrong. They took the 3.5 from the RX when they changed over to the new model. They're taking the 3.5 from the ES when they change it over later this year.
Then get the 250 with the 4 cylinder. People want power, so they get the v6
So its the old Toyota Avalon 🫣🤫
Basically, but nicer in various ways. But the Avalon is a very solid car too and nothing to be ashamed of.
I feel like when they designed it their mantra was "How can we make it bland enough so that it won't offend anybody?"
When they released it, Car and Driver described it as "a wonderfully elongated form... quietly dramatic... you're likely to actually remember seeing it." Sounds like your opinion isn't unanimous.
Why buy this when you can get a Chevy Silverado & bounce around for $85k
Front wheel drive sucks
Not much better then any Toyota 😮
So, tell us about your test driving experience with this car that I assume provides a factual basis for your confidently delivered comment.
2019 = 2024 😡
What's your point? Most automakers have a 5 or 6 year cycle for new models now, just like this one. Besides, if you don't like this one, the new one is less than a year away, so what's the problem?
They have done a number of upgrades since 2019 model . Last was the infotainment system . No more mouse pad . Touch screen is awesome!
@@johnconnors5123 Agree 100%, and I put my money where my mouth was. I waited out the '21's for the '22s that debuted the touchscreen. And in '23 they overhauled the entire system.

it's a Camry with leather seats. The 2024 Volvo S-60 is why more sexy and classy inside. S-60 headrests drop down for better rear view.
This model is not based on the camry
the chinese purchased volvo years ago
Reviews for the Volvo not the greatest as of recent.
Buying a chinese car is like handing the house keys to your home intruder.
the mechanics are great. the body sucks. pity.
I enjoy it. Sorry you don't.
The ES is stale nowadays. Real old man sedan 😂
Yup, instead of wild young imbecile sedan like a Model 3.😂
The transmission, not the engine, slows the car when downshifting.
The engine slows the transmission which is the point
toyota and lexus is very outdated
No they’re not….
Tesla owner?
@@FU29988 no way
Just purchased a 2024 on July 2. Absolutely love the car, but I have one problem that is a known problem. The HUD display is too far to the right and it cannot be adjusted left or right, only up-and-down. When you’re doing an up-and-down adjustment a frame comes up and you can see that it’s not even centered in that frame. It’s too far to the right.
