Great video,so clear and easy to follow step by step procedure, wireless switching is certainly the way forward with no evasive chasing or difficult cable feeding, really enjoyed that
That was a nice close up of what you were doing and nicely explained think we are going to use this type of switch in the utility room depending on the cost as usual 👍
I did exactly the same job this week. Fitted a Quinetic mini receiver inside the light fitting rather than a standard receiver. Only down side is that it has a constant flashing red LED that can be seen when lights are out. Got to go back next week and reposition. Apart from that, they've saved me a lot of times.
Excellent workmanship as always 🇮🇪😎👏
These switches are awesome!
just fitted one in my bathroom to get rid of the dreaded pull cord, great peice of kit.
Brilliant job sir
Anyone who wants a switch outside the bathroom didn't have any friends as a kid. Or doesn't have any kids now. 🤣
The good old flick and run I get ya mate 🤣🤣
Or siblings.....
Everyone has a torch in their pocket now, it won't work
@@JussiPeltola 🤣🤣🤣
@@christopherhume8896 Really, I had a friend accidentally hit the light switch with their ass while I was on the toilet (we were moving), and it was totally meh, just turn on the torch on the phone you are already holding and reach for the paper.
Nothing is like the good old times.
Question, does the electrical regs even require a pullcord switch in a WC? I thought it's only required if it's above a sink or within 60cm of a bathtub or shower. Can any sparkies on here correct/clarify pls.
Fantastic video that Chris.
Done this a few times, you can use the switch inside the bathroom (no electrical connection) to avoid a third party swithiching the bathroom light off from outside too... tip o the day...ha ha
Great video. Ive put some down lights and a quinetic switch in today. But how/where do i connect my extractor perm and switched live to After removing the ceiling rose (3plate) ? Should have said that i connected what i thought and the fan does start but turns really slowly
Had a pull switch in my bathroom got rid of it and fitted a switch outside the bathroom door . Much better just takes a while to get used to it as the mind is used to the pull switch but OK now.
What model light was used and other bits
Be interesting to see how long this wireless switching lasts. . In my experience modern technology doesn’t last . Hence that light your changing hasn’t lasted
Well they say 200k switches on the booklet that you get with the switch, who knows if it will last that long. It also has a 3 years guarantee, i suppose if it does last 3 years or so its not that terrible but again when you do compare it to a normal switch it doesn't necessarily compare very well. Some old switches last for donkeys of years don't they!
And somebody from the US the pole cords and outside bathroom switches make no sense to me.
I know it's historical but I'm just imagining being in the bathroom and having somebody turn the light off on you And having no window for natural light. Although there is one advantage you can have an occupancy indicator attached to the light switch outside yet I have not seen that done.
so I think the kinetic wireless switching is the way to go!
And I'm so glad that I'm subscribed so you don't have to pull the main fuse and you can let that other guy do that for you.
Purely safety, water and electricity don't mix and wet hands operating a live mains powered switch is as dumb as building houses out of plasterboard.
@@godthealmighty4338 and yeah the mere act of having a light switch in a bathroom has been common practice for decades now in the US with no deaths.
When I mentioned historical I was referring to the slight overreaction to bad electrical practices and poorly insulated conductors in the locations.
of all the shocks I had none of them were in the bathroom and that was before GFCI's.
PS Love the user handle haha.
Why not just put a quinetic switch inside the toilet to control the light? Being wireless they're safe inside wet areas. Bathroom light switches outside the bathroom is a pet peeve of mine
Mine too, I hate not being able to switch the light on when you're half way through what you went in there for 😨
I'm often over half an hour in the toilet and that would annoy the hell out of me
Maybe it's what the customer wanted?
@@Saaj2 in which case I would have no issue. I consider the fact you can put them in bathrooms as one of their main selling points so just wondered.
Just utilising a switch that’s already cut into the wall and the client didn’t want a paddle type.
I get mine from China. Used for months with no issues
I have Danlers PIR no issues for 7+ years, pull cords are the worst
Chris, can you do IR at 250V with phase and neutral tied with these units?
Why not? If it doesn't have a ground or any signal and LV cables that could lead to ground, Meggering with L & N together would have to leak enough current through the plastic casing to break it. Not going to happen at 250V or 500V.
why u change the lamp if it was the fure for example
the light still can be good isnt it?
it could've been the LED panel, Driver or fuse. He decided to just switch out the whole thing as sometimes that's easier.
if your using a quinetic switch or similar product why don't you install a switch inside the Bathroom by the door?
I expect fashion will turn full circle and the clunky pull cord will be that sort after retro item.
Never ever will a pull cord be retro
Where is the extractor fan? How easy would it be to wire to fan?
Pop loo doesn’t need a fan if it has an opening window. Yes you can power a fan off a quinetic receiver this one will do up to 6 amps of load.
I guess he is paid by the hour.
do they do one with w microwave sensor?
You can get lights with built in yes but the amount of triggers through doors etc is unbelievable
Yes a sensor that is until you're sitting on the loo in the light goes out and you have to wave all around and it still doesn't trigger. I'm thinking of a bit from the American office, but I'm sure it was something covered in the British version as well I would hope as haven't watched it yet.
Just use a PIR to control your bathroom light fully automatic
How much does that cost when it fails as opposed how much a pull switch would cost to replace. Plus if you decide it’s too dear and want to go back to pull switch you’ve got to rewire the pull switch
That is a very odd way of looking at this install, if you decide it's to expensive you wouldn't buy it in the first place.
15 quid for the switch module mate.
Pity you can't now turn the light on if you've gone in there and realise you'll be longer than you thought 😨
Add another switch or even a clicker what ever floats your boat. Could install one inside the toilet if your desperate.
@@Cjrelectrical yes add a second switch maybe even incorporate some sort of big red button that says in case of emergency or something next to the toilet......
Do they do this for shower pull cords yet?
Where is he? Have you sacked him?
You could use a contactor
Yep could use the quinetic switch s model on s contractor to active the shower
A "BIG BIG CONTACTOR" lol
@@Cjrelectrical it had occurred to me to use a Quinetic switch wired to a contactor, however, I'm not sure how legal it would be. I had assumed that Quinetic would have produced such a solution but I haven't seen it on the market. Any ideas why?
@@Land-of-reason No need mate, the amount of times you're going to be switching a load like that with a switch like that is so small, contactors are legal for that situation and best practice anyway.
To much cables for light...they have new light easy to fix
By making those changes to the luminaire you have invalidated the manufacturer's warranty. The fitting will have been checked against EN60-598 for CE CAUK and / or ENEC. All these are now invalid
sonoff
Too much stuff to go wrong. Nowt wrong with a pull cord.
You need a go pro, so you don’t have to work one handed
I use a DJI had so Much trouble with go pro
In Brazil we have the light switch and sockets for hair dryers and shavers inside the bathrooms.
In my 46 years, I’ve never heard of anyone who died or any property that had a fire started in there.
Also the first time I came across a pull cord was down in London in 2006. There has not been anything like that back in Brazil since the late 40’s. And we are a 3rd world country!🤦🏻♂️
Or you could use Lutron and had the wireless switch in the toilet
I could have install this one in the loo but it would get cover in shit.
Do you do this mod for only customers with more money than sense? Instead of just finding the fault and fixing it, like changing the pullswitch or putting a new fuse in the lamp? I bet the owners will miss the pull switch, when somebody turns the light off from outside the room when they are sitting on the toilet!!
A right old bodge of a CU this one.... [easily accessible] ... shame the 'client' can't get a decent sparky in to sort it out.... eh?
Perhaps James could fit you in on one of his weekend side jobs or are you worried he'd riffle through your sock drawer 😂
The the flickering on the camera image is annoying you, all you need to do to fix it is change the Frame Rate setting to match the Power Frequency...
Since the UK (I believe) is 50 Hz AC, set the Frame Rate to 25 or 50 Frames per second and the On-Screen flicker should (in theory) disappear...
