Two thoughts besties and keep in mind that I still respect you both : I’m agreeing with the Gen Z girl. I’m 28 and I wish I had the brass cojones to say no to my bosses when they asked me to work free labor. Regardless of if it was an extra 10mins or not. I hate to say it but if the interns are all crying every week, that means there’s an issue with Pump’s friend as a leader.
Also about the parking spot warmers : they’re doing it on purpose. It’s a feeling of “you are not going to rush me out of my spot, I’m going to make you wait on my time.” Very that.

Working for free once for 5-10mins easily becomes working for free for 15mins every day or worse, and that shit adds up. They have the right idea, set a firm boundary, no working for free for any period of time from the beginning and you'll never end up being taken advantage of!
This person's time is valuable, the friend can carry her own chairs around after her own work OR offer to pay for a full 15mins of additional time on the clock for the intern to do it. As a younger millenial employer, I applaud this gen Z for not being a pushover.

Except you don’t realize that an intern is there to learn . If this intern is crying about an extra 10 mins - they will never make it in a the real world especially especially if any design job where clients expect tons of overtime and changes for free . If I was that interns boss she would be fired on the spot after I paid her sorry butt for services rendered . She can then go back to her parents attic and cry post on the socials .

Ehhh idk there’s a fine line between setting firm boundaries and just being a dick. You can maintain healthy boundaries that protect you from being taken advantage of while also being part of a team willing to help coworkers for 5 - 10 minutes on occasion… gen Z has just fully appropriated the act of setting boundaries and has turned it into an excuse to get out of anything and everything they simply don’t feel like doing. Your mental health will be fine if you help someone for 5 minutes, i promise.

One Friday my grandma (her mom) ended up in the hospital and the doctors were giving everyone the run around. My mom (who is a certified boss bitch) walked in in those scrubs and started bossin people around to get her mom the care she desperately needed and everyone took her seriously bc she was in scrubs. When the doctor said “I can tell you’re a nurse” she replied with “not a nurse, but I’m in the medical field” hahahaha

Also, who says we have everything taken care of for us? Lol. Our families are all different, and parents care for kids in varying degrees.

Unless my job is also a career and not just a typical “job”, I am definitely not working unpaid. 5-10 minutes will almost always turn into 15 or 20 or more. Additionally, the cost of housing is ridiculous. The cost of medication, therapy, college, food? The gap keeps getting bigger and it’s not getting easier. My boundaries aren’t so that way I can be lazy and dramatic; they are for the benefit of my mental health and wellbeing. Anyways, love the pod gals! I am obsessed with y’all! Take care

Yeah, this was a big turn-off for me. One of my long-term boyfriends was born and raised in Hawai'i Island, and I learned soooo so much throughout my time with him, his family and friends, and my time spent in the Hawai'ian Islands. There's so much that is problematic with the tourism in Hawai'i, and people died in the most horrific ways due to the fires on Maui. I can't believe they didn't even offer any pushback or ask how he felt about the disaster on Maui (not sure which island he was on, but when you're out on the islands, the news travels quickly, so there's no way he didn't know about it).

Usually I agree with y'all but I really disagree with you on the Gen Z story. No unpaid internship (which should really be called volunteer work because that's all it is) or low-paying hourly job should expect a person to work outside of the agreed hours. If there is something that will require work after the end time, then it can wait until the next day. If the boss doesn't like it, then they and their high salary can take care of it themselves.

I look forward to this podcast every week, but damn, this episode was such a disappointment. I agree with the things others in the comments have mentioned, but what is bothering me most is the judgemental bullshit regarding what people wear to the gym and which clothes they wear out in public. If you don't like seeing someone's panty line at the gym, don't stare at them. People are not required to wear clothing that suits you, and the idea that this guy is a fitness instructor and he's actively judging people's clothing when they're at the gym is disgusting and wildly inappropriate. Also, the judgement against people who wear athleisure clothing to Target or whatever...how the fuck do you know whether or not they went to the gym that day? What if they put those clothes on to take a walk? And even if they did just put on comfy clothes to go to Target, why is it any of your business? And what if that person you see in pajamas at Target could have a bad cold, or perhaps they just went through a surgery, or maybe they just think pjs are comfy. If you don't like it, you don't have to look at them. I really hope this podcast doesn't devolve into people just being catty towards others. Discussing why you've "had it" with certain things is great, but this episode seemed to be a lot of objective statements about outfits/people/etc that Jen and Pumps personally dislike. Also, if this guest is seriously staring at people's asses/etc while he's doing fitness training, that's extremely fucked up. It's not his job to be rude and judgemental towards others who are just trying to maintain their physical health. Judgemental people like him (and you two, too, Pumps and Jen) are a big part of the reason that so many people avoid gyms in any way they can, because they worry that they'll be mocked or stared at or whatever else if they go to the gym. Also, why in the hell was that word not bleeped?! I hope the next episode is at least a little bit less hateful. 😥😥

Employers will take a mile if you give them an inch. You dont owe them more than they pay you, which is very little if anything at all if theyre interns. The fact that shes got several interns crying at their place of work should be ringing alarm bells but they somehow managed to make it out like the entire generation is just too sensitive and addicted to phones, which is a typical dismissal and head in sand combo that wont acknowledge the worsening social, political and economic environment. This generation is no worse than the last, they said gen-x and millennials were the participation trophy generation too. Its just inter-generational shit throwing to prop up peoples self-worth and have someone to blame for a deeply sick country.

I’ve had it with social media’s appropriation and bastardization of the word “boundaries” as a way of getting out of anything and everything you just don’t feel like doing. If you’re an intern, you’re expected to participate in your internship. refusing to do this isn’t a “boundary”, it is just straight up neglecting your responsibilities.
In life, there’s just going to be things that you don’t want to do, but they’re still your responsibility. I dread paying my student loans every month, but I can’t just refuse to pay them and say it’s a “self-care boundary” 😒

As a gay man, I’ve had it with gay men that use the “F slur” for shock value and cheap seats laughs. The door needs to stay closed on that word. Very obnoxious and unnecessary. He should have been a bit more responsible and respectful of the invitation to come on this podcast than to act and speak like that. Even with the context being irreverent humor as even that has its boundaries.
Otherwise, love the podcast and look forward to the next episode.

It's two sided. If you're in a field as a young person trying to get their stripes. You should be prepared to make sacrifices of your life, time, & whatnot. You should be hungry enough for your journey in your job, being useful to your superior, being dependable. Provided you aren't being abused & it's not happening in a manner that's too frequently. That's part of the journey of being young, having to work HARD, having a ladder to climb, rising into a role with a title. But many of these young people have the expectations that they should leave college and go into the world and be a ceo in a minute.
