Moxley is so blinded by the past that he doesn't realize Nick Cage is the wrestling equivalent of that guitarist you see in a bar band who plays mediocre covers of other bands songs for $50 and a free meal every friday night in front of a crowd of 30 people (most of whom are ignoring them) who somehow thinks that he's the second coming of eddie van halen and believes thathis band will be the next metallica if people would just give their original material a chance.

despite Nick Gage being known as a death match guy he can actually wrestle on the mat and has said technical wrestling is his favorite style to watch. Gage grew up a fan of the NWA and ECW really marked out for Arn Anderson and Rob Van Damme

I watched the Nick gage episode out of by interest as I didn’t know much about him beforehand. That sort of match isn’t really for me if I’m honest. I don’t find people getting cut to ribbons with glass that entertaining.
Gage made New Jack look like a rational totally pleasant human being and a great worker in comparison.

I saw the Nick Gage episode. Hardcore wrestling makes me miss the days of the AWA where it was dry and slow.
The one thing I would say about the show is that David Arquette seriously looked much better in the ring (before he got cut up) than he did in his WCW days.
oh David put in for real ass work.. and I think he did so to prove to fans he took wrestling seriously.
I tried to watch this one, however when Jon Moxley referred to some of these hardcore guys as "Artists", I had to turned it off. I couldn't take it seriously and lost a bit of respect for Moxley.

CZW is what would happen if the guys from jackass started a backyard wrestling promotion.
I've personally never seen it full on only small snippets, but icp started a wrestling..brand? Company? Whatever people want to call it honestly.. but I don't think their company ( JCW ) was as nuts as CZW.
@@facesofevildead I've been to a JCW show live. Thirty minutes of wrestling, six hours of concert. I ended up walking away. The wrestling wasn't even offensive, although whatever the people were lacing their blow with was, but somehow I missed the fact I was expected to spend over five hours of my weekend and not even one of those would be on wrestling.
I've also seen CZW events all the way through, but never live. Some of the guys can actually work, sometimes the shows almost look professional, and when it comes to garbage wrestling matches they usually are not the worst practitioners on the US independent circuit. One can at least expect the weapons to be in reach, the furniture already set up, so guys don't look like idiots running around for where something is hid or spend five minutes putting something together, but CZW is/was usually something I would catch because it snuck onto wrestlemania weekend, some wrestler I was interested in happened to be on some cards or a promotion I liked happened to be working with it. Never priority viewing.

@tree hugger- Jackass guys I don’t think were trying to kill each other. It was crazy but it was a bit more fun and ball busting with buddies than trying to mutilate each other.
I do recommend the documentary "You Cannot Kill David Arquette" (2020). It goes into that incident and a lot more. Very entertaining.
Great great documentary. Only minus was the mental breakdown scene at the doctor's office. Didn't buy into that. It felt scripted.

I watched the Nick Gage episode, it actually wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be...
The episode about XPW was a way better episode about an outlaw promotion. Nick Gage and the Abdullah the Butcher episodes are the two worst imo. Both are bad for different reasons.

Jim is talking a lot about the drug addiction like regular professional wrestling isn’t a hot bed of the same pain pill problems. Get these guys on workable schedules so they can heal their bodies in a safe way.

There is no "workable schedule" if your whole gimmick is purposely injuring yourself repeatedly for the amusement of 20-30 degenerates. While major pro wrestling definitely has some more work to do to protect and ensure the good health of their talent, generally speaking, they don't create an environment where talent is expected to excessively injure themselves every time they enter the ring.
@@thesupremepizzaking look at all the guys who have died from the 80s-90s. They weren’t doing the flippy-dos like today. And yet, a better schedule for them to take time off and not get addicted to pain meds and worse would have ensured that some of them would be alive today.
@@zakunick1 The wrestlers from the 80's and 90's had to constantly do shows nonstop in multiple different territories because the pay wasn't very good when you started out back then, so of course even if they weren't overdoing it every night, it was a heavy burden. But that doesn't happen anymore because there are no more territories, so your scheduling point is wasted hindsight. And I would also point out that in the 80s-90s, a lot of the talent had massive addiction problems long before most of them got hooked on opium pills (cocaine, alcohol, steroids, etc) so trying to say lighter scheduling would have prevented them from getting hooked on pills is a pretty big stretch.

Watching that episode actually made me like Nick less. It's great that he's trying to get back on track and turn his life around after hitting rock bottom, but he just seems like a guy who didn't figure out that hardcore wrestling is booked just like any other match. He just came off as insecure that "______ is tougher than me!? I'LL SHOW HIM!" when the other guys probably just wanted to have as good a match as possible for the pay they were (or weren't) getting

Not gonna lie when i watched that episode i didn't know who nick gage was. And i still don't know who Nick Gage is because to me the Death Stuff isn't wrestling.
For David Arquette to go into a death match saying "don't cut me" is like a long haired hippie going into the army and telling the barber "don't shave my head". Of course they're going to do it, and laugh at you while doing it!

He watched the episode. He says these things to down products and individuals to draw people, like you, in to his mass of bullshiting so he can form your opionion on what you like and don't like.

There is a documentary where David Arquette is training for this match. I watched it before the dark side came out. It's hilarious where arquette is wrestling in backyards and going to wrestling schools. And at one point he's dressed as a wizard on a horse in his backyard talking about how he wants to be taken seriously.
I don't know why the fuck I found that so funny, I laughed for five minutes. The irony of someone asking to be taken seriously while randomly dressed as a wizard atop a horse is hilarious to me.

I dont understand this episode tbh. It made Nick Gage come off as a complete fucking morn for the helicopter incident, bank robbery, and drug charges. His girlfriend looked like a meth head you see in my home town at 3 am and don't get me started on whatever that garbage in the ring was. Thank god for Flair this week.

I had no idea what to expect going into the Nick Gage episode. After about 60 seconds, I shut it off and watched something else. That is not wrestling. That shit is a bunch of bums fighting over a cheeseburger. I have no respect for any of them or what they do. It's just plain fucking stupid.
I actually loved the episode, and don’t have the same distain for Gage or Mox or that kind of wrestling that Cornette does. That said, “bank addicted drug robber” cracks me up every time.

I found the Gage episode disappointing. I respect he has gotten his life together but, there was some seriously deluded opinions on there. Was almost like they were trying to paint him as a legitimate star.
I didn't watch it either Jim, had never heard of the guy thought it was disgusting when I saw him and what he does. I have loved dark side of the ring but this was the first episode of all 3 seasons I did not watch.

@Matthew Smith, David Arquette's the last person I would suggest anyone who's interested in going into the business to listen to about training & etc, I would reccomend instead that they should listen to people like Afa or Sika or Rkishi, or Steve Keirn or Dory Funk Jr or Arn or Tully.

If my memory serve me correctly, New Jack didn’t start doing hardcore wrestling until he signed with ECW.
New Jack wrestled for USWA and SMW, and very early in ECW. Even during his hardcore matches he knew how to work, where as the amateurs just get hit and sloppy in the rest of their work.
You find it "ironic" because you have no understanding of something as simple as a TIMELINE.
You want to call out the Hart family for bringing Chris Benoit into the business too, because he did what he did years later? Is that how your brain works?
