    In fewer words, my personal take is that Persona 5 makes me feel like a phantom thief (very cool, but not something I would ever be,) while Persona 4 makes me feel like a teenager in a new town (something that, while I have not had that experience exactly, I can relate to.) They're both very cool and good games, but persona 4 feels far more personal.

    When i play p4 i feel like characters speak to me personally. When i play p5 i feel like im just a viewer of a good anime. My favourite moments in p5 is when im free roaming and morgana doesnt narrate my every fucking movement and forces me to do something i dont wanna do. P4 is more personal. No wonder what people call p4 hero Chad. Cuz he is a main character. While joker felt like he was tossed around to do one thing or another ( i personally blame desision of making Morgana a sort of a system messages character ( joker you need to sleep! Joker you need to do this! To do that! ) - in p4 restrictions was like personal desisions of main character but in p5 it feels like main hero doesnt have his own free will - which i guess suits the game thematically ( fate, prison, bounded by chains ) but annoys me personally

    persona 4's characters are literally the best. you could put any character in a room with anyone and you could easily headcanon what would happen. in persona 5 i can hardly see that

  • @punpunyana

    I think that persona 5 wasn't able to flesh out the main casts' relationships with each other except to joker. like the only interactions that we got from persona 5 casts were occasional jokes and hangouts/hawaii events, other than that we got none.
    In persona 4 (golden), all characters go to the same school, hangsout everyday (through many classroom cutscenes), the school camp event, the school festival, the fireworks festival, the band at junes, the skiing trip, hotsprings at amagi inn, etc. Also, when a character is introduced we can already see how that character vibes with the others individually and as a whole.
    I really regret rushing through persona 4's story in order to play persona 5 because people are saying that it is better. Individual character interactions in 5 are truly lacking

    Regarding these 2 games I look at it like this.
    Persona 5 has improved GAMEPLAY and game mechanics. but it lacks in the character department.
    Persona 4 has AMAZING characters and a weird but simple story. each character feels alive, I actually feel for each character in the game as if they were human. while it is LACKING in the dungeon crawling aspect the story and characters somehow make the game so much more.

      Not to mention P5 OOZES style. I just start P4, and I already like the characters more than in P5, I do miss the style of P5, but so far I'm enjoying this game about as much if not more than p5

    I played P5R first during lockdown and platinumed it. And i thought that P5R is the best JRP i've ever played. But then after playing P4G on my modded PSvita. I realized that nahhh. It's almost feels like I'm becoming friends with them while playing it. I've beaten the game for like 3 times now. I don't care about platinuming. i'm still playing it. Because i just love not just the game but all of em' characters. I love all about P4G, and it's hell of masterpiece. And the golden ending hit different bruh 😢. I love P4G.

    P5 is at the minimum twice as good as P4, it's honestly ironic that the fan base of so-called truth seekers can delude themselves into thinking that any game in the persona series can even come remotely close to persona 5.

    i don't understand anything you said but i agree persona 4 is better than persona 5. I couldn't care about anything in persona 5 even after 100 hours. it's perfect highly processed mass produced Disney slop. persona 4 on the other hand is like a book you read and it changes everything for you. every year or so you go back to it and it brings you back to this place real or imagined and you get to reflect on your feelings and experiences with the game acting as a spiritual medium of sorts. that's kind of why humans always and always will do art. in other words, persona 4 is peak.

    I always felt US audience excepted persona 5 more, while Japan audiences thought it was just good, but it didn't go as far as persona 4 fandom. They had numerous LARGE persona 4 events and stuff for it that even person 5 didn't have. Maybe because it wasn't around as long as persona 4....idk.

    Some additional reasons in my opinion
    -The procedurally generated dungeons in P4G are very dream like, which suits the narrative well
    -The humor, although some people deem has "aged poorly" I have found that it generally hits better than the humor in P5
    -The velvet room, This place exists between dream and reality, or mind and matter. The limousine driving through the fog thematically connects perfectly with what the MC is going through , while the velvet room's theme being a prison just misses IMO. I think the inside of a subway train would have been vastly superior to a prison in P5 as the movement on the rails symbolizes the uncontrollable nature of fate, and is extremely synergistic with mementos. the fact that the unconscious mind is ultimately a prison lacks the mysterious element that is maintained in the fog (in P4) or if they had fully capitalized on the endless subway corridors theme.
    -No mind control, changing someone's heart is a denial of human agency, its a kind of mind control that does not feel satisfying to do. Also it clashes with the battle with the Yaldabaoth because we are fighting him because he is taking people's agency away...which is what we have been doing the whole time.
    I could think of more but those are first four that come to mind.

    • @Jdudec367
      @Jdudec367 11 месяцев назад +1

      P5 never had mind control though. It isn't a denial of human agency, It is not mind control, it's having them realize that what they are doing is absolutely wrong. No it doesn't as you aren't taking away people's agency.

    • @Jdudec367
      @Jdudec367 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@Thecakeisgreat It's not so that they can follow some arbitrary morality that society has deemed "right and wrong" it's so that they don't twist what they are doing around or distort their true desires at all, the villians in the palaces had to face the full truth of their actions and stop acting like they aren't purposefully and intentionally being terrible to others or that any stuff they went through justifies their actions or act like their actions are fine. Kamoshida for example still thought he was hot shit and deserved everything even though all he was doing is being a terrible and abusive teacher but he wasn't willing to see that back then. Or Futaba who wasn't evil she just had to realize the full truth too and accept it. Like just because you are a villian doesn't mean you have distorted desires, look at Akechi for example who fully acknowledged what he was doing and what it did but he was just trying to stop someone who was really evil, Akechi lied about stuff yes but he never lied to himself about who and what he really is and he awakened his Persona by acccepting his true self.

    I honestly feel bad for the generation that played 5 first. It just skews most peoples opinions on what persona is and thats sad to me. Im not hating on 5, i love it, but everything it does was already done in earlier enteries, most of the time done better. 4 nails everything. I remember 5 taking like 7 hours to get going, i wanted to punch a wall in boredom. In 4, i was sucked in from the first missing girl part. I love 5, but playing it first often develops a weord rabbid fan that i tend to not like.

    New-ish to JRPGs. P5R was my first Persona game. Trying to play P4G is brutal.
    Basically, all of the gripes I have with P5R are amplified tenfold, and all of the good aspects are significantly diminished in comparison. The voice acting aged terribly, the pacing is painful, and the score isn't anywhere near as good. I will definitely get through it some day, but man, is it a slog.

      PS5 takes everything 4 did and just makes it more bright and flashy. The story beats are literally the same too, they didn't even try to be unique they did a copy paste and switch job. 5 is definitely trying hard to be more fancy but it also works against it at times. Music too, 5 leans way to hard into the big band sound and I hate it. The way 4 mixes that with pop, perfection
