Thanks for letting all of us watch along with your progress. I just bought my first 2002 (a 1974). I can’t wait until spring and the snow is gone for me to have fun with the car.
I think you’re right it’s probably drawing too much current causing the car to die. You could check with a volt meter at the battery, should idle around 13-14volts if it drops from that when the switch is activated there is an issue with the wiper system.
Have you tried checking the wiring, inside the car, somewhere there*s probably a ground cable, making contact with the stalk, when you hold it or push it back it serves to stop the engine, or the switch is broken, or at one time it had an ignition cut off or deterrent, to prevent it from being started, after all those 2002, BMWs, were /still quite popular then as is today, this was way before alarm systems, came into play, check the wiring, going from the switch to the starter, If you can get a wiring diagram, or scematic showing the way it goes, that would help a lot, you can get it online, through the BMW 1600/2002 haynes manual, or the BMW2002, parts CD.
If you have some Rev issues like at the start your friend said I couldn't get it higher than 4000 RPM try to press the accelerator pedal at the maximum at tune the distributor you want to rich the maximum number of revs, besides that I saw your distributor and you don't have a hose at the actuator. To get an air hose the smallest diameter and put it on the actuator of the distributor the other end needs to be hooked up with the carb to find which one simply look around your carb to find small bronze tubes, you need to find the right one when you accelerate it sucks air when RPM is normal it doesn't suck air. This will advance the timing on your distributor to have the best combustion when you floor it or when you accelerate like a jurk 😀. I will make a video of mine to show you exactly what to do. Anyway seafoam cleans and take off deposits but doesn't affect the timing your engine is in tip top chape no oil smoke no fuel excess fumes so forget about the seafoam...
Okay, that makes a lot more sense. Will try to get a line hooked up and mess with the timing some more. If you get a video posted just shoot us a message and we will try to follow along.
I had Dieseling issues in my 2002 when I first got it. Look at the timing, it will do wonders. I would use a timing light. As for the stock, it is defiantly shorting out, I would pull the wheel assembly apart and look there.
ok....i really need you guys to just stop......lol. Find a gremlin or something to learn on. This is a classic german car, and you really dont understand how to diagnose the issues here. Dieseling is from carbom......no rpms is a bad dist advance or secondaries not working ( thats the second butter fly that opens late ....) or a bad power valve in carb. Stop buying tune up parts, and replace your %^*$#@ POINTS.......floating points will kill higher rpm range. this is a very simple and straight forward engine, and if you follow the proper steps, it will run great in half a day....DONT MAKE ME DRIVE DOWN THERE......ill do it lmao
PNW project; check the timing and tune the engine to run righr before putting additives in. Also stop dumping the clutch or soon you will destroy that old transmission. It's a rare classic not some crappy honda. Also i seen it puffing blue smoke in earlier vids it looks like its burning a lot of oil it will simply get worse if you been revving the piss out of it

Did you guys ever figure out why it never reved past 3500 ?
glad i subscribed, that's content right here
Thanks for the support!! Look out for more vids!
PNW Project ofcourse man!!

Thank you 😅
those stalks are real easy to take apart. Get the wiring diagram and test the connections
We found out that the window washer motor wires got hooked up to the coil and that was shorting out the coil. Fixed now!
I guess you guys are just having fun, but you have no idea what your doing
Motoicon Yeah, still lots to learn
