2:21. Yes. It’s necessary in order to have the clearance to bring the transmission down. I know it seems hard but it would be much harder to try to bring the transmission down without removing the pipes. It’s not impossible tho. It was my first time doing it too and I was able to get it done.
Very very helpful...I was wondering if you knew all tools and sizes that are needed. If so, could you list them in the description? And thanks again for making this awesome video!!!!
The transmission slides into the torque converter on one side. On the other side, the torque converter has a few studs which go through the flywheel and are held in place with nuts.
I didn’t include the part where I removed the torque converter but after removing the nuts behind the flywheel that held the torque converter in place, I was able to remove it.
How to install the transmission without having problem with the torque converter? You should take it off along with the transmission. Small mistakes will be a big problem.
You might be able to access the top bolts on the starter by turning the wheel in a direction that moves it out of the way but it might not be worth the trouble. I would say to just remove the wheel because it’s already hard enough as it is to get to the bolts without the wheel on.
Great video. Much appreciated!!!! But I can not in good faith leave a comment without mentioning those shiny boots!!!! I get buying the new creeper and jack for trans but the boots too!!! Lol. I do love e me some timberland pros though 😜

Great video, will help me a lot. Good job!
Time frame of this process?
Took me about a day to do it. Having the right tools makes a big difference on how long you take.
What is the part number on the transmission so I can go to autozone tmrw lol
Hey how many extensions you use to unscrew the transmission bolts?
4:08 I think it was 3 or 4 six inch extensions

This a 4.2 or no?
Are you referring to the engine size? The engine is a 4.6. The transmission is a 4R70W
Thank you for this!
Great video bro would this be the same way to remove a 4 wheel drive transmission on a 2000 f150
Honestly I’m not sure. My guess is that there might be a few differences but overall the procedure should be similar if it’s the same year
Do you work on vintage cars? 1989
