"if you have this problem just jump right into it" yeah right!!!! I've done a lot of car repairs but this is still beyond me. Great job and my hat is off to you.
I never comment on videos ever, but I have to give you credit here. You nailed a few key points here that will help boost confidence in someone that is skiddish about disassembling this trans. Here I go! I'll update this with my outcome. Thank you
I did a complete rebuild for 500. Went together dandy. Had a stripped direct drive clutch drum. Clutch packs were iffy so I did a top down replacements. I'd do it again.
I'm so glad you made this video. I bought a 2008 MKX and I have to heat it up for 20 minutes and then it will do a reverse. I regret buying it, I bought it in a tough situation. What a problem transmission car this is.
got mine out and in pieces on the bench, need to put together. I don't mind taking it apart again if i mess up but dread R/R in the truck. A 2 post lift would make life much easier but I'm working on my back.
Thank you very much friend, you are a great person, I thank you for your knowledge, my truck has the same problem and it is not that difficult and I am going to repair it.
I went to reverse in the mall parking lot it jerked hard as if I hit something and now I have no reverse. Thank you for the video I'm pretty sure I have the same problem
U forget the labor charges to take the transmission out and do the disassembly. Lets not forget while ur in the transmission might as well do the rebuild to make sure it doesnt break again for a long time
When you re-installed the oil pump assembly, I missed the pump return spring, did it not have one? I'm tearing into one now, that a "professional" builder did and the builder installed the pump "Piston Return Spring" backwards. The result was the intermediate clutches are now toast AND no reverse. This is my 2nd time taking apart an automatic, my 1st into the clutches or housing. Mine is an '07 model 4R75E. Did you have to take it back off and put in a return spring in later? Just wondering.
Thank you so much for the nice comment! We're Very happy that you find enjoyment in the channel! We have plans to do more videos soon on the jeep! Stay tuned! Thank you for watching!
I'm interested in knowing how long the job took from starting the transmission disassembly, to ready to re-install in the truck. In other words, just the bench work.
Same here on my 2005 f-150 sometimes she goes in reverse but pushing it backwards sometimes surprisingly funny it has gotten easier to get it to roll. Things you notice when it looks like no slope truck rolls by itself lol with occasional small push
What about the ring that was dry rotted /bad. Does the rebuild kit include those? Is it possible for that to be the issue if transmission engages but does not function. Any tips?
How about when I crank my truck put it in reverse I have to give it gas to start moving then it snatches and sound like something jumping around inside rear of transmission
Just FYI it is better to draw a diagram on a piece of cardboard and poke holes with a screwdriver and place each screw in the hole. Because if you put any screw anywhere you will definitely strip the threads and end up with problems down the line.
Have a 2007 f150 harley and i cant get my truck to reverse it works fine in drive but when i put it in reverse it just revs but doesnt move please help
It's going to be the reverse band as it was in this case. Working for ford for a couple of decades I have done dozens of the 4r70 series transmissions and the reverse band is the most common failure. Good video keep it up man!!!
Hey can someone help me I have Ford Explorer 2006 I’ve issue with reverse gear and drive all other gears are working properly like 1 2 3 and parking but whenever I engage with reverse slowly it’s going reverse and getting stoped reving high also no use drive and reverse..! Is there anyone who can help me with it please !
Ugh this just happened on my dads 2004 f150 v8 triton. It has been such a good truck till now we were reversing a trailer and then something popped and wouldn’t go into reverse but every other gear works. You think it’ll be an expensive fix?
I have the same truck except four door four by four, it's been like that for YEARS lol I just park it places I don't need to reverse but I am looking into trying to fix it soon
@@The13thProphet_ did you get it fixed? My vehicle won't go in reverse and I was told that it could be something as simple as a clogged transmission filter that needs changing. I'm having to push my 2000 ford expedition 4.6L V8 Triton XLT back while in neutral just to drive.
unfortunately no.. your transmission is not the same. all versions of the Aviator were equipped with a 5-speed 5R55S overdrive automatic transmission. hope this helps and good luck! Thanks for watching!
Can you give me an opinion? I have no reverse in my 08 F150. If I jack up the rear end and drop it into reverse the wheels spin. I was thinking I had a similar broke reverse band, would the wheels still now in reverse with the rear end jacked up of the bad is broken, or do I have a separate issue? Great video!
Did you have to remove the engine to remove the transmission to repair. Will you need an engine hoist? Can you access to remove the transmission with the stand. Ford f 150 2004 same issue. Drives but no reverse..
@Christopher Bomia Thanks for the tips. I found an old man to remove the transmission. The engine didn't have to come out. The bearings in the flex were rusted out. I had to replace all of it . She rides great now !!! No note is the best way to go..👍💯
Great video, keep up the good work. Quick question though, by any chance you wouldn’t know why the reverse still won’t work after I changed the reverse band. Transmission came out of a 2008 f-150 4.6 v8. Thanks
I have a 2008 F150 5.4 1st it’s hard to put my truck in to park 2nd when I put my truck in reverse nothing happenes when I put it in neutral my truck goes back then when I put it in drive nothing gain put it in drive 2 it drives normally I just got it from my cousin for $3,500 and it only has 180,000 miles
Thanks! it was a challenge for sure going in.. But not so bad in the end. Very doable for someone with some mechanical experience. Hard to say how long exactly it took to pull due to the fact we spread the job out over several days. But with 2 people and the transmission jack I would estimate maybe 1.5 to 2 man hours to remove everything with no experience.
Probably an hour or less. Put a drain pan under the rear seal to catch the fluid when you pull out the drive shaft. Use some tape to prevent the drive shaft bearing caps at the differential from falling off. Disconnect the oil lines and electrical connection. Use a transmission jack to support the transmission because if it falls it can crush your chest. remove the bolts that fasten the bell housing to the engine then wiggle and pull the transmission from the drive shaft end. It will be safer and easier to have a helper for removal and installation. What makes it simple is that nothing needs to be measured or adjusted. It works like legos.
Awesome video I have 2000 Ford E450 motorhome it was in water flood i just drained the old fluid, it was totally pink milky and wont move at all i refilled fluid now it has a little power just on drive but not at reserve or 1 or 2 can you tell me the possible problem?
You know 4rt5e or 4r75w are not that complicated to rebuild provide you have the tools you need for getting it out and putting it back on and the 3.9 gallons of transmission fluid you will need to put back in GALLONS yeah that's loy but I got it

Download FORScan via windows and buy the cable that’ll connect your laptop to the OBD2 port. It’ll give a dealership diagnosis.
I personally would have replaced the overdrive servo and band sense you had it apart and pop in new accumulators for 1-2 and 2-3 shift
If your transmission has a dipstick, you can remove most of the oil with an oil extractor. Just stick the tube the whole way down and suck it out.
I agree, they need to put a freaking drain bro!!
