I still can’t watch Paul Hester without tearing up. So tragic. They battled with him. Love this band so hard. My very first cassette and I wore it out. Thanks for posting this.
@@ThatSingerReactions Paul Hester, their loveable, charismatic drummer, committed suicide back in 2005. Despite his 'court jester' role in the band he was prone to intense depressions and he hung himself in a public park. A part of me still kind of resents Neil Finn for continuing the Crowded House band without him, since their live shows were so completely about the chemistry between him, Nick and Paul. Their stage banter was always as entertaining as the songs.
Crowded House is a great collaboration of Australian and New Zealand musicians. One of the great aspects of their music is that it is absolutely effortless. Their songwriting, vocals and instrumentals had a natural feel about it. For people new to Crowded House, their final concert held on the steps of Sydney's Opera House is something to behold and is available on RUclips as well as the individual songs. The raw emotion that you can feel from the audience and band themselves is palpable, making it one of the all time greatest concerts globally. Highly recommend viewing that concert's 'Don't Dream Its Over' again. Great review, thanks!! RIP Paul Hester.
Neil's kids are now in Crowded House Liam Finn and Elroy Finn. Sadly we lost Paul Hester the drummer in March 2005 who sadly took his own life. RIP Hessie
Love that you're starting to get into more and more Aussie bands. What I'd say about a band like this is, we Aussies seem to put a big emphasis on storytelling in music. You called out the lyrics on this one, and it's true, the lyrics are often what makes the song. Jimmy, John, guys like that are easy to rock out to and always give killer live performances, but often you'd find that bands/artists like Crowded House and Paul Kelly (who you reacted to previously) will be on just as high a rotation on people's playlists. And the thing I'd say about that is, any song written by Neil Finn or Paul Kelly will always, always benefit greatly from reading the lyrics then listening to the song over again. You'll get the vocal/musical performances for sure, but these guys are first and foremost storytellers.
Absolutely agree with the storytelling comment of Australian music. Nick Cave is another fantastic example of this. His song 'Love Letter' could not be better.
My ABSOLUTE favourite song of all time!! How true are the lyrics? 'Everywhere you go, you always take the weather with you...' Neil Finn is a musical genius. Have a listen to 'Four Seasons In One Day' and 'Better Be Home Soon' and please check out their 1996 and 2016 Opera House concerts, they are iconic!
Check out the farewell concert they did on the Sydney Opera house steps. You can tell they're a real pub band because they're so good live. Epic crowd too
My favourite concert of theirs was the New Year’s Eve one they did on rock arena. I think the whole thing is on RUclips. If you listen carefully you can see where some lyrics changed between the concert and the album.
One of my biggest regrets in life is flying home from Sydney on Friday night, knowing their final show was the following night. I was aware of the band at the time, and thought about staying on another night to go see them, but decided against it. Less than 6 months later I really fell in love with their music and regretted that decision ever since.
Neil is a poet, y’know? And there’s a melancholy touch to their music that is so poignant and bittersweet. This is my fave song of theirs, it’s just so beautiful and a little sadly sweet. Thank you for this!❤️
@@ThatSingerReactions Neil Finn is the lead singer. Paul was the drummer. Great band. You might also want to listen to some of the music from the band Neil was originally in, Split Enz with his brother Tim Finn. Love the reactions Nick
Check out “ Fall at your feet” in my opinion it’s one of their top two songs. It’s one of those songs that comes in halfway through a thought. So good!!
Neil's brother Tim has an awesome voice and is just as talented Neil..Do yourself a favour and listen to their band Split Enz. My top picks would be: Poor Boy, I see red, dirty creature, I hope I never, 6 months in a leaky boat, I got you, message to my girl.....💕💕💕 Love your reactions! ☺️
Some of the other vocals you can hear on this that sound like Neil are actually his brother Tim Finn. They wrote and recorded this together. Tim was the lead singer of Split Enz (which Neil joined a few years later fresh out of school), and then later on Tim was with Crowded House for a little while. Both brothers are absolute geniuses, and legends of the industry. Their voices are so similar - sometimes hard to tell who is singing! They are brilliant 💕
This is from a great time in Aussie Music. If you love good lyrics and musicality you should check out contemporary band Icehouse. You have probably heard Iva Davies' masterpiece Great Southern Land but he is a great songwriter as well.
You're the best! I loved your explanation at the end, it sums up Crowded House completely. Watching them live in a stadium is just surreal, the whole audience is singing every word with them and you feel so happy and joyous ❤
Crowded House are just unifying, everyone sings along and the world is better for having their music. Lyrics are everything, the line "there's a small boat made of china, it's going nowhere on the mantlepiece" is so evocative, I think everyone's granny had a china boat on the mantlepiece when I was a kid, but the added meaning of the suburban existence, a boat going nowhere, leading into the line "do I lie like a lounge room lizard, or do I sing like a bird released" really gets into that deeper meaning of the song. Like most of Crowded House's songs, you can take it as the great ballad it is, or you can go so deep into the lyrics.
Eddie Vedder doing 'History Never Repeats' with Neil Finn is just fire! Vedder is a HUGE Nile Finn fan and has done numerous shows and live appearances with him.

"I ain't editing nothin" lol I love you! Great song reaction. These guys are so good!! Better be home soon is one of my absolute favourites. Give it a go!!
The vocals in this are Neil and his brother Tim. They just sound so right together. I love listening to them harmonise. Try the Finn Brothers first album, it features some great vocals from the pair. They were also in a band called Split Enz in the 70s that showcases both their vocals individually and together. They are both hugely talented singer/songwriters
This is the song that made me truly love lyrics. Listen to the message and let it sink in you always take the weather with you meaning your attitude and what you do with it. What a beautiful song.
Something So Strong and Hole In The River are great ones from the first album. Fall At Your Feet, Into Temptation, When You Come, Better Be Home Soon, Private universe, Distant Sun, Catherine Wheels, In My Command,… So much great stuff!
The extra harmony your hearing in this particular song is Neil's brother Tim singing as well. They were both in Tim's band Split Enz before Neil started Crowded House.
Yeah, its not virtuoso vocals, its 'just' virtuoso pop music. Lyrics just deeper and more varied than the average pop song, and melodic music and vocals just a little lovelier and catchier than the average pop song. This is music with real staying power. Dude - your reactions are so fun to watch! It's awesome that you're getting into Crowded House. 2 other songs of theirs that I'd love to see you listen to is "fall at your feet" & "its only natural"
This song/album they were joined by lead singer Neil Finn’s brother Tim Finn, who founded legendary NZ band Split Enz.. That harmonising between the two brothers voices is amazing….Tim doesn’t appear in this video though even though the song features his vocals …he famously left the band part way through the tour of this album “Woodface”… they have worked together since and have two “Finn Brothers” albums. You should listen to Tim singing “Poor Boy” with Split Enz - truly beautiful vocals (early days…he has lost some vocal ability with age, though still amazing). Edible flowers is one of my fave Finn Bros songs … take a listen.
My parents went to school with the Finn brothers in a small town here in New Zealand, Te Awamutu, and they used to do free concerts in the school hall. If you like Crowded House (which Neil Finn was a founding member) you should check out Split Enz that his brother Tim was a founding member of and Neil eventually joined. Like Tim eventually joined Crowded House. As kiwis here in New Zealand we grew up on this music. I believe Neil's sons are now in Crowded House with him too
Nick Seymour the bassist is a big reason for that groove. His brother Mark is the lead singer of Hunters and Collectors, another awesome Australian band. One of the most well known Aussie anthems is “Throw Your Arms Around Me.”
Crowded House is just down right good. Their harmonies were enhanced when Neil's older brother Tim joined the band. You can really hear the benefit his voice adds to them in this song over Better Be Home Soon. However I do prefer their earlier stuff personally
Aah! I love this song. Lol, when we were younger my friends and I would often burst into the chorus of this song if it started raining or a thunderstorm came over when we were out.
Please check out Powderfinger....some stand out songs for me are Love you way and Passenger and a whole long list of other great songs....Bernard's voice would just get to me...he's one of my favourite voices
This is such a beautiful song😊❤️ "there's a small boat made of China, it's going nowhere on the mantelpiece", that line makes me think of my beautiful Dad who made many incredible model boats, made out of wood. My favourite live Crowdies track is 'Fingers of Love' from the FAREWELL TO THE WORLD concert. It's just stunning. And it wasn't even a hit song. It's kind of an obscure album track, but that live version is an epic masterpiece.
Crowded House really are one of my all time favourite bands… I love that you focussed on the amazing lyrical ability of Neil Finn…. If you want to see more of that in action, please listen to When You Come… where he manages to seamlessly use the word cumulonimbus!
The great harmonies are the Finn brothers together. Tim Finn joined the group for a short time but as a performer he was always basically a lead singer and not really an instrumentalist. In Crowded House he was always going to be playing second fiddle to his brother, just like in Split Enz after Neil found his feet there. It looks like Tim had left the band when this video was done because he isn't in it. Another example of their great harmonies from this time is another weather-themed song 'Four Seasons in One Day.' It's a myth that Paul McCartney described Neil Finn as the best songwriter in the world. He was asked and said he never said that.
I think you'd love Neil's band ''Split Enz'' which was his brothers band and later joined.Tim Finn (Neil's brother) has a beautiful voice and sings a love song ''I hope I never'' it just beautiful. Love your Chanel !

I can't say enough good things about Neil Finn or Crowded House. They LIVE in the pocket. I've listened to all their albums so many times you can drop the needle anywhere in the collection and I won't miss a beat. It's just poetry with a melody. The ups and downs of life and they managed to capture it all. I think what I love most is their different style of songwriting. It does not follow the normal "hit" recipe. True artists. Just a special band. So happy you seem to get it straight away. I can't hear the end of any one of their songs without hearing the start of the next track in my head. "Here's someone now, who's got the muscle..." (World Where You Live)
Other Crowded House Songs - Something So Strong - World Where You Live - When You Come - Better Be Home Soon - Into Temptation - Fall at Your Feet - Instinct - It’s Only Natural - Distant Sun - Private Universe - Everything is Good For You There’s many others obviously
Sheryl Crow wrote a song about Paul Hester, Crowded House's drummer. It's called Every day is a winding road. They toured together and were pretty close by the sounds of it, so she was affected by his suicide
Love that you picked this, was it because of my post? lol. At its core, this song is the 2 brothers harmonising like they did in Split Enz, with Nick and Paul adding the backing layers, but essentially this is them 2 belting one out. Fantastic talents both 😊
If you wanna check out another incredible voice from Australia , check out the guy who sings for the band Savage Garden.....check out their song, "I Knew I Loved You". This is another guy with a perfect voice.
It's illegal to listen to Crowed House and to not end up singing along. You passed!
Very true!
YES!!!
I didn't know it was illegal... But after all, no one's ever managed to do it in the first place!
but why u singing cos the music or the meaning of the song ? :P either works
The harmonies are so great because it's his brother Tim singing with him.

"Here's someone now, who's got the muscle..." (World Where You Live)

Did we just become best friends?! 🤣
Oh hell yes 🙌🏼😁
My favouite songwriter, Ginger Wildheart, said that 'Locked Out' was one of those songs he wished he had written.
Genius writers, shivers.
Sheryl Crow wrote a song about Paul Hester, Crowded House's drummer. It's called Every day is a winding road. They toured together and were pretty close by the sounds of it, so she was affected by his suicide
Better be home soon is a must listen too from crowded house.
Great reaction! Check “Better Be Home Soon” - beautiful song
Love that you picked this, was it because of my post? lol.
At its core, this song is the 2 brothers harmonising like they did in Split Enz, with Nick and Paul adding the backing layers, but essentially this is them 2 belting one out. Fantastic talents both 😊
Better be Home Soon.. love that song.. from New Zealand here. one of your sub 😁👍
