    Always an interesting upload from you!
    As a swede with Nordic winter-tire experience I would like to comment on the softness of the tires. I recognize exactly what you say. I think from +3 and below things will get much better, but also over time. Your tires are new and the rubber in the tires are fresh. The rubber will harden over time, but it will happen slowly. Maybe not until next season you will feel a bigger difference.
    I use the European type of wintertires on my current car (high performance car) and it actually works much better, but it is ofcourse a compromise in terms of usability in real Swedish winter.

    Hi, the ride quality on my September built Model Y LR is much improved for the earlier builds IMO. Nice informative video, thanks.

    I would absolutely recommend 19" as a permanent switch due to improvement in ride comfort on rough roads. It's shortsighted thinking by Tesla not to allow a 19" wheel package on the 3 and Y Performance at the time of purchase.

    I've been doing some research, supposedly 18x8.5 +35 5x114.3 64.1 bore will fit these like factory also. Cheaper tires and 255/50-18 should result in a 28" diameter matching stock.

    Those rims looks real nice tbh, big fan of the turbine replica wheels. Got myself the same(ish) but in 20" for winter, also silk/matte black.

    Do you think your warnings about performance on the 19" tires would also apply if they were all season 19" tires? I've debated getting a MYP but want to switch to 19" wheels (want the improved comfort, want to avoid staggered tires, cheaper tires ,etc) but i wonder if the tires would spin out on a 0-60 all out sprint. If there would still be a lot of tire spin or weird handling on tight turns then i think i would be better off with the MYLR and acceleration boost. thanks.

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  Год назад +2

      I think it will be a lot better handling with all season/summer tires. The rubber on Nordic friction is very soft, and u think that's the main problem.

    Are those rims 8,5x19? That could explaine why you felt you were «sliding» to either side… I’m considering the Gemini, those are 9,5x19… magbe the would perform slightly better when driving a little harder? I just got the MYP 2023 with 21’s,,, but i would LOVE to have some more comfort 😂 HOW big difference was it when driving over «bumps» in the road? With my 21 i feel EVERY singel bump in the road 🥶🥶

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  2 года назад

      No it's 9.5x19. You feel the added comfort with the 19" wheels but actually less than I thought. But the tires feel better now when they have worn in.

    • @Jungelungen
      @Jungelungen 2 года назад

      Ohh crap 😔😔 What do you think, is it worth the «downgrade» ? Or should i just stick with my 21’s? I could sell the 21 and buy geminis ( im from norway btw ) and even have money left after i’ve got the gemini with nokian R5 … but if the change in comfort is not THAT big, i really don’t know….

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  2 года назад +1

      So you are considering to downgrade your summer wheels or is it a new set up of winter wheeks you are looking for? If you are looking for a new winter setup, then go for 19". It is a difference in comfort but also a downgrade when it comes to performance, and cheeper. For summer, stick to your 21" looks better and I think the comfort are ok on those.

    • @Jungelungen
      @Jungelungen 2 года назад

      Its for changing to winter tires. The stock 21 summertires are ok i think ( maybe i will consider lighter 20’s for summer, but it’s not that big of a deal.
      For winter with 19, i will het slightly better range, tires are more cheap, added comfort , silence etc,,, I can’t use the full potensial of the car this winter anyway, so i guess 19 is the way to go! We‘re having -16c allready, and roads with ice, so i have to drive carefully anyway 😚

    I would have like to know where you ordered your rims from. Also, a video shot of them from the side of the car with the sun shining on it would have been better. They were hard to see with the shadows. I have a model Y performance and was thinking about buying 19" wheels for the winter to see if that would help with ride quality but didn't get much commentary on ride quality. You used to be able to order a MYP with 19" wheels. I think Tesla won't sell them to new MYP owners because of the speed rating of the tire.

      It's not for performance driving. The 21" gives you much better support while driving hard. But for regular driving they works fine.

  • @stefankarnevi79
    @stefankarnevi79 2 года назад +1

    The reason Tesla would not sell you smaller rims and tyres is that they are not allowed on the model Y performance in Sweden (and probably also elsewhere in Europe). The only dimensions allowed are stated on the driver side doorframe and on your "registreringsbevis". Even if smaller rims will fit, which Tesla told me they will do, they are not allowed on this car model. I have the same car MYP and decided to bite the bullit and buy 21" winter tires.

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  2 года назад +7

      No that is not correct. You can use whatever wheels you want on your car as long as you follow the list criterias/rules that are stated.
      For more info about the rules in Sweden:

    • @OlavAlexanderMjelde
      @OlavAlexanderMjelde 2 года назад

      @@whynot5852 If you go third party its very important to look at:
      - Load capacity of rims (how many kgs per rim they handle, they should handle the total allowed weight of car / 4)
      - Track width (not overly missing OEM specs or you might get rubbing.
      - Rim width (not too narrow rims, tire should not stretch too much)
      Tire OD (outer diameter) - try to stay as close to OEM OD as possible, use a tiresize calculator to check dimensions vs dimensions which came with your car. In Norway its legal to do +-5% difference, but staying as close as possible to OEM sizing is a smart thing.
      - Tire load
      - Tire wear index (some tires wear very fast)
      - Max speed tires are rated for (YP can do 250km/h).

  • @OlavAlexanderMjelde
    @OlavAlexanderMjelde 2 года назад

    In Norway the best studless winter tires in 2022 are:
    1. Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV - 87 poeng
    2. Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 2 - 81 poeng
    3. Continental VikingContact 7 - 79 poeng
    4. Michelin X-Ice Snow SUV - 78 poeng
    5. Falken Winterpeak F-Snow 1 - 75poeng
    6. Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V3 - 66 poeng
    7. Kumho WinterCraft WS51 - 55 poeng
    8. Mazzini Snowleopard LX - 53 poeng
    But I would just choose one in top 5, maybe in top 4. Reason is that you have a lot of weight and a lot of torque.
    Have been using the Nokian R3 on Model 3 Performance, but if I were to buy something outside of Tesla for tires I would look at CVC7 or Ultragrip ICE3 or X-ICE.
    Reason is that the nokians are a bit too soft I think, they are best on ice - but I live on west coast of Norway so we have a lot of days with just rain in the winter . So the Nokians are more for colder parts of Norway or other countries.
    So I would for my usage look at UG2, CVC7 or X-ICE.
    The nokians have been good, but as you say they rumble and they feel like rubber... You accellerate and you feel your tires left you and suddenly you get dragged back :P Rubber band effect.
