The leak down test is going to be really off right now. The cylinders have sat so long they are completely dry. The rings need a little oil to help seal or they will leak air straight past the ring gaps. Add 1/8th ounce of oil to each cylinder and spin the engine over about 10-20 times, let it sit for 30 min, then re-test it.
I think this build has to be one of the hardest ones you have done! You literally saved it, I don’t think many others would have took on that challenge, fair play🙌🙌
I can't believe you plan to start that engine without at least, putting some oil or soaking the flooded cylinder with WD40. Rings might be stuck and the first strokes can damage severely the cylinder walls. Greetings from Portugal.
You’ve got to drop some oil into those cylinders through the spark plug holes. If the bike sat for a long time those cylinders dry out and the piston rings can’t make a good airtight seal. You gotta add a tiny amount of oil and hand turn the engine over a couple times to coat the rings and cylinder walls. Then run your leak test, and also you need to test each cylinder individually at TDC so none of the valves are open
You should put oil down the cylinders and rotate engine to lubricate the pistons and sleeve so it's not starting up dry and that would of helped the rings seat again after water getting in to..
Man, you’ve gotten my vote for top mechanic! That bike was destroyed and you’re literally putting it back together! If that bike runs, you can definitely get my business lol 😂
Can’t get enough of these rebuilds, I admire ur determination to get these bikes back on the road, I recently emailed you about a z1000 project and you turned me down ahaha but I’m glad kinda gave me the push to finish the bike myself! Much appreciative man keep up the awesome work
For the throttle bodies try taking the black boots of the throttle bodies and install them on in the engine first with the lower clamps. Then put the throttle bodies on with the clamps on the boots but don’t tighten the clamps until you have the throttle bodies on first. You might have to unplug some connectors on the harness around the throttle bodies to get the upper clamps connected
Not always, spark plug can be damaged or half broken on the inside and will not give a good spark, you can see this in 2stroke engine where the spark plug die by a too rich AFR even if its brand new and if you try to clean it you will not make it work anymore Spark plugs are cheap, changing them and going with new its always better!
@@Tore__ dats why i said as long as the elements good.. If its damaged then it can"t be helped 🥲, i'm cleaning my spark plugs regularly and its okay still work well for years for me 😁
Awesome job, CJ! Bike is gonna be sick! Fantastic job on the wiring. I've put my Daytona rebuild on hold because I'm buying a house. I'll have a small shop for once! All Glory goes to God!
I would strongly recommend Borroscope pistons or remove heads for inspection. Engine out of frame if removal of heads 😏. throttles bodies rubber rings needs to be clamped on intake manifold before tb mount! Great job reparing wiring loom, it should be possible to ordrer main plugs connector housing at aprillia. Keep up the good job!
I've been following your fantastic videos since the Panigale restoration days, it's great to see you working again to bring this italian masterpiece back to its glory. Keep up the good work CJ, hope to see your hands on a MV Agusta F4 one day, it would be awesome... Greetings from Rome 🟢⚪🔴
You are a genius with the wiring 👏💪👌if it was me I'll probably put fire on the bike to relax myself 😁 Keep going like that 💪 from a sub in Portugal 🇵🇹😉
It might be different from the Bmw but I just had to replace TPS and those rings were on the Bmw throttle bodies . You have to install them first and click them together on the first notch then put the throttle bodies in and then tighten them to the correct notch on the rings.
The issue is not how to put them on the bike, I guess he already knows that. The issue is how to clamp them with the engine in the bike. There is litteraly no room. Aprilia does it with then engine out of the bike. Even with the clic-r pliers with a rotating end (to get some weird angles), it's still a pain in the ass.
Seeing that claw hammer perched on the subframe when you were showing how insane it was to fit the clamps on the throttle body made me chuckle. Oh to have that tool in arms length when the frustration sets in. lol. Good luck putting that together man, I'm rooting for you!
CJ, you might need to remove the airbox from the throttle bodies and remove the motor from the frame to access the clamps for the bottom of the throttle bodies??? can't really see any other way of doing it, or maybe tilt the motor forward in the frame and see if you can access the clamps that way.🤔
There is a special aprilia tool to install the throttlebody clamps. And be carefull with turning the engine over you need to turn the crank in the direction off travel otherwise you risk messing up the hydraulic tensioners and thus the engine timing🫣🫣 Read the shop/service manual more carefully its not a "simple" japanese bike
try to get some clamps with a Phillips screw on the end like the ones used on alot of other bike intake boots. That is if you think you would be able to position them to be able to tighten the screw, hard to tell on camera.
Mobile 1 is good oil unless you plan on racing the bike. I use Mobile 1 oil in all my vehicles be it 2 wheels or 4. You do a great job kid. Keep it up brother and God bless you to be able to continue to do these videos.
14:51 : its nearly impossible to put those awful clamps but you need clamps to avoid air leaks guys on aprilia forum says they replace them with a screw model and works fine : from susuki burgman 650 or af1racing sells similar replacement clamps for RSV4 and Tuono V4 (8$/piece)
Bro you just rebuilded a bike which looks impossible to do so, i am really surprised by your persistence and efforts, good job bro🎉. I will be following you to see this aprillia girl rolling of by her own power😊
Damn man those throttle bodies connectors will be a pain in the ass. I just hope you wont have to take the engine off the bike again just for 4 connectors 😰😰

I agree.
Great job!
19:36 Just one advice... When install the battery, first connect the positive cable and then the negative.
Will do Marcos! Cheers
it will be more efficient if you change the whole harness with the one you are taking the connectors off

from a guy doing his valve clearance on his Caponord, this comment is right

Put the clamps down first on top of the cylinder heads then put the throttle bottle over and slide the clamps onto the throttle bodies piece a cake👌

When pressure/leak testing the cylinders, leave the other 3 plugs in while testing one cylinder.

The easiest way is to pull the engine out. Without the right tool you won't be able to put the clic-r clamp with the engine mounted.

Got a idea for you CJ, Have look for standardised jubilee clips where you can do up with 7mm socket flexible driver, all flat blade screw driver
