Nicko Mcbrain from Iron Maiden is one of my all time favourites to, he plays beats and changes tempos so fucking well. Phillips is another one of my favourites along side Taylor Hawkins as well.
It's great to see Bobby Kimball on stage in much better times than what he's going through now, at 73 and suffering from the early stages of dementia and severe hearing loss. I don't care whether they used a backing track or whatever else here, in his prime Bobby was one of the great voices in music, and he was a huge part of the success of Toto and the incredible body of work they put together. I think we should all put some respect on his name.
An incredible bass player and by all accounts a super nice guy... I also have a lot of respect for men who have enough confidence to wear shirts like that that are ugly as sin. ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
I was 13 in the 80's and was calling in this song to the radio station to ask them to play it..... sometimes i waited for over an hour for them to answer, and then 3 hours for them to play it. Now I can hear it whenever I want..... this generation has no idea.
And then hit play-record on the cassette at just the right moment so to catch the opening notes and miss the goofy DJ talking....here's that hot new single from Toto, we ain't in Kansas anymore Dorothy ...hahahaha
The generations of instant access has no clue (1997+), which is why their attention span is diminishing, they've never had to wait for anything so to have everything makes everything less valuable. Having to wait for something makes it more valuable, which is a good thing.
There used to be a joke about him, it went 'Why hasn't Simon Philips got a driving license? Because he doesn't know the difference between left and right'. The idea being he's so ambidextrous he can play everything both ways. Such a master.
what is even more awesome is when you learn that he is actually playing behind the loop that Jeff Porcaro used on the original recording. Simon is an absolute master at the drums. There is another video that shows what he is playing during the main verse and how he has to play light and accent the main loop and not step on it .... and I would kill to be as fluid a player as he is, triplets for days and days. This band is like a gift that keeps on giving and giving. The vocal ranges, tonality and musical talent of each member of the band is above phenomenal, it's "Epic!"
Except in this performance no human sang the chorus, which is understandable, with age the voice changes and the range becomes narrow. Still sad though, because I'm pretty sure the singer doesn't know his mic is muted judging from his efforts. At the end his mic is turned back on and he clearly can sing.
@@pignonMZ6 As much as it shocks you, the mic is turned on all the time and there are tons of recent live performances where you can see him singing. Talent, existed back in the days.

Bobby Kimball was one of the greatest vocalists in his day but what made Toto such a great band is how everybody contributed. They made songs where 3 guys would sing in different parts of the song and it not only worked but it was magical. They also used many differnet types of instruments and NONE of their songs sounded the same, they were all very unique! Quite possibly the most talented group of musicians the planet has ever seen. One other thing I have to say was about the song Rosanna. When Bobby says "I never knew that losing you would ever hurt so bad!"......It just was not possible for him to sing that lyric any better. He belted it out with pure perfection. God could that man sing!
Jeff Porcaro was irreplaceable. Even Simon Philips knows that. But more importantly, Mike Porcaro knew it too. He formed a distinct relationship with Simon that was entirely different than his one with his brother because Mike knew, as a part of the percussion section, the importance of having one with every drummer he played with. Its also what made him such a popular studio bassist. I think this could have only helped Simon assume the role of filling some very big shoes, and I think Simon has done admirably in his work. Its still Toto, but its Simon's rhythm now. As it should be. RIP to both Mike and Jeff Porcaro. I hope the family documentary sees the light of day.

Such fantastic imagery. Here come the wild dogs. All you antelopes run for your lives !;.
The sound of the drums and percussions, along with all the other instruments are beautiful. The main vocals of David Paich are beautiful and very tuned. The Backing Vocals of all members are perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plain & Simple...Toto Is One Of The Best! Who is with me?
As a classic rock, metal and punk fan for some reason I've loved this song since I first heard it. As a bass player and as a chap who appreciates Mike Porcaro's talent, there is no place in any song ever for a flippin' bass solo!
That high vocal in the chorus sounds just like it always did. Amazing!
That's because it's most likely a playback
@@dekeltal It's not a playback. His vocal is well documented.
@@dekeltal Not playback but there is post production added, and you can clearly hear Kimbal's autotune added in the Falling in Between DVD.
Definitely edited in
That's the original vocal take
This is so epic . I was introduced to Toto band through this song in 2013. I came so late, but now I have playlists of Toto songs in my phone and I sing along with them . Thanks Toto for wonderful musics.
This Drummer is very Perfect in Playing this.. Respect!
One of greatest songs in human history.
Wells John J. The drummer is called Simon Phillips one of the most amazing and respected drummers he is incredible go and check him out he played with everyone
Simon Philips( drums)
Simon Phillips is still going strong on the drums. One of the best jazz/fusion drummers of our time.
R.I.P. Mike Porcaro. He ruled.
You mean Jeff.
Chris Wynes there were three Porcaro’s in the band. Mike was the bassist who died from ALS, which he was suffering from at the time of this video. Steve = keys Jeff = drums
R.I.P to you syd, the soul of pink floyd. You still rule
William Henderson Didn’t Jeff Porcaro die after accidentally getting sprayed with insecticide and getting a heart attack as a result of inhaling it?
Supernova Strike I mean, come on. He had some addictions too.
23 million views. I probably account for at least 500 of them.
You Gotta Pump Those Numbers Up, Those Are Rookie Numbers
No, one view per account on a video. Watching over and over wont make more views.

That was absolutely terrific! They were a very talented band of singers and musicians. Thanks for the live clip;
Toto. Escuto desde da minha adolescência. Os arranjos que eles em provisão no repertório é espetacular. Muito massa. A plateia vai a loucura.
What a wonderful drummer
Ward Nine Yeah, Simon Phillips is great!
A banda mais técnica da história do Rock. Músicos de verdade. Músicos Raiz!!
Ever heard of Rush or Dream Theater?
Sensasional !!!!!! ao vivo é outra coisa
The porcaro brothers will always be remembered
Hey! Steve is still alive and kicking! And at the time of your comment, their father Joe was alive too, however he has since died as of July of 2020.
This song has always rocked....unlike some other bands, it’s good to see after so many years Toto are still just as much alive as they were back in the 80’s!
What helps to make this song great is the terrific drum playing. It helps to drive this song to fever pitch.
