- So I have seen quite a few videos on how to 3d print Cloud's buster sword from final fantasy 7, but alot of those Buster Sword Build guides leave out a lot and aren't full guides. So I decided to make the best buster sword build guide on how to 3d print and finish the Buster Sword! I hope this helps you!
check out my others prints @quest4nostalgia on insta and would love a subscribe over here!

I put a threaded rod through it, it has a nut that hides in the handle and one in a spot by the crossguard, I really wish I filmed that but I was too excited to get it together the rod was a 5/16 thread and 37cm long
@Eric I just picked up the rod at my local Lowe's no link unfortunately
Hey Quest! do you have any guides/pics to explain how to fit the nut into the handle? I have a rod but it just fits in the handle and Im not sure how to get a nut in to secure it?@@SaturdayMorningProps
would wooden dowels be a good support option?
@@blackfangsamuki6519 probably better to add PVC pipe then wood dowels
@@SaturdayMorningProps im still a beginner so i was just wondering if wooden dowels are strong enough if i were to use multiple in the sword.
Hi, just wanted to say this is helpful that you showed the process, especially the cura slicing. Most of all i feel this video is genuine and thorough (not filled with sometimes too much video special effects), you explained everything in detail, audience know every product you used. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Happy to help, thank you for the kind words
This is a fantastic tutorial! I was able to follow this video and with some minor modifcations I built a Buster Sword I can swing full force, and stick to my back with a magnet. Swinging it around made this ~30 something feel 10 years old again, haha.
Thank you for providing content like this. I know I said it in the discord already, but wanted to give the ole' algo some love as well.
How did you slice your model, ie perimeters, infill, layer height, etc.? I just finished a dissidia/smash bros buster sword of my own but unfortunately the handle has started to crack, so no swinging it around for me anymore. I still want to make the remake version, as well as other large swords, that I can swing around and I'm trying to find how to better slice it. My blade is only 2 perimeters 5% infill and the handle was 3 perimeters at I think maybe 15% infill. The blade is fine but the handle has some layer splitting.
I just started printing my buster sword and this video was perfect motivation! Thanks for the great insights!
That's so awesome! It is a little overwhelming at first but it's so crazy to have the sword at the end! Good luck and feel free to ask any questions if they come up
Yoooo the detail and tips in this video seem invaluable.
Thanks man, two people have already said it's motivated to finish theirs so it's 100% worth the effort to make this vid!
Definitely doing this!!! AHHHH!
It's a great project
i saw you watching iron blooded orphans while pla welding second thank you im new at 3d printing and your tutorial was a life saver
GOOD EYE! if there is anything I can help you with let me know. Sad I didn't film the rod through the handle part. I made a second and filmed it just don't know how I want to release the vid
@@SaturdayMorningProps im using a threaded rod in the handle and through the blade for support kind of like an actual full tang on a katana plus another youtuber i watched in the research for this has it where he can unscrew the handle and guard for easy transport if necessary but i seriously cant thank you enough for the orientation part that gets me as a newcomer i spend way too much time obsessing over the orientation of my prints.
@@darklordofwolves8106 yeah I have the threaded rod but made mine permanent to sand the seamline. Print orientation can be tricky so I try to put it in most videos when practical
Thank you so much, I spent all night trying to figure out how to print one of these from Frankly Built videos as a reference and was getting no where. Seeing someone do a thorough video on how to build one of these is super helpful and I am so glad I found it. One question though, what supports did you use for the blade? Not for printing but for holding the sword together.
No extra supports, it was crazy sturdy just by welding and it already has those insert registration key pieces if you are using the thingiverse file.
@@SaturdayMorningProps Thx
I wasn’t into sword but now I am even though I’m a fan of final fantasy franchise and cloud so in a way I did get into sword cause of cloud and next thing you know I bought myself a sword from a festal anyways great video also this is my first time watching your video since I was kinda looking video of people buildings cloud sword
Thanks so much for the view, and what kind of sword did you get from the festival?
@@SaturdayMorningProps a samurai sword
@@italexs_ very awesome!
Omg so amazing! I’d buy it… you made a incredible job
Thanks so much, I actually did end up selling one and shipping was TERRIBLE 🤣
@@SaturdayMorningProps I can only imagine with that size! But it looks incredible! Really do! I’d love to see how you did Sora’s Keyblade and I’d buy that 100% lol
@@leandrinhorock9 Sora's was a nightmare 🤣 the print failed so many times cause the tubes kept falling over and then had issues for a while with the gold paint. I may make another down the road
@@SaturdayMorningProps if you decide to do another one u should make a video too ☺️ and hit me up hehehe.
@@leandrinhorock9 if you have Instagram follow Quest4Nostalgia there, that'll be easiest to talk about a commission
That is so cool
I figured you'd like this with all the Final Fantasy content! I definitely want to do a gunblade as well!
@@SaturdayMorningProps Bro that's gonna be sick if you do.
Hi, first....amazing video, THANK YOU for putting this together. I'm taking my first major print on my Ender 3 and found your video to be a confidence booster as I dive into this. Second....can you share your print settings? Specifically looking for infill and wall count across the major sections of the print (handle, guard, blade pieces). Thanks!
I've never changed wall count, so whatever stock cura settings are at .2 resolution. As for infill I did 15% I believe on everything. On thingiverse it mentions doing the guard and handle at a higher infill but I completely forgot to increase it. And it was still VERY solid.
Thank you for the amazing video! This motivated me to finally finish my Buster Sword build I started back in 2020. I actually had printed the entire thing last year and its just been lying on my work bench. One question I have is what did you put through the handle that attaches to the main sword? Was it a iron rod or something? Thanks and will be watching this vid multiple times as I try to finish my sword!
I put a threaded rod through it, it has a nut that hides in the handle and one in a spot by the crossguard, I really wish I filmed that but I was too excited to get it together 🤣🤣 the rod was a 5/16 thread and 37cm long
@@SaturdayMorningProps Hey fam! Got the whole thing printed out and now ran into another problem haha. So the Pommel isn't fitting into the bottom of edge, any advice on how to get it to fit through? It's the guard and pommels.
@@Kennyboulder do you have discord or Instagram so you can send pics?
Not everyone notices about the REMAKE version of the buster sword or the one with black - silver hilt. But the REMAKE or black - silver hilt design, the sword is about 2 or 2 and a half inches longer or should I say "SHARPER". The sword is also 2 or 3 inches more wide than the original design with the golden hilt. Although the REMAKE version/design is a nice touch and modified, I rather stick with the original buster sword design that has the golden hilt to stay in the original story of the Final Fantasy 7. If there's one thing I like to see in the future of Final Fantasy 7 REMAKES, I would like to see an option to choose between the black - silver hilt design and the original golden hilt design in gameplay and cutscenes.
I notice that the holes in the original buster sword are a little bigger, but in some scenes from Advent Children, the holes can be seen smaller.
Thank you for the great video. I'm on the printing phase of this project. My plan is use epoxy to glue those pieces together. I wonder if welding a better option?
i havent tried epoxy so i cant vouch for that, 3d gloop is another good option
This video is awesome. I just started printing projects. This will be my first major one. What kind of filament did you use?

Ah, I need it 😢! Yours came out looking so good! Wish I had all the tools and time to make it! It’s perfect! Well done, legend!
Appreciate that thank you
Just found you channel thanks to the sweet buster sword file. Printing mine now. I was curious if you added the metal rod into the handle? If so, what length did you need to cut it down to and where did you get it?
I did put a threaded rod through it, it has a nut that hides in the handle and one in a spot by the crossguard, I really wish I filmed that but I was too excited to get it together 🤣🤣 the rod was a 5/16 thread and 37cm long. Bought it from Lowes and used a saw to cut it to length
@@SaturdayMorningProps Thank you for the fast reply. I am very new to the 3d printing hobby so I am taking my time and only printing one piece at a time. LOL ~ 75 hours into printing currently.
@@tonyrohr8919 I did one piece as well to minimize loss if something failed 👍🏻
Hello, i have a few questions about what infill density and infill pattern you used, do i go with the one suggested to my with the app or do i use a custom one if so is there a way to find out each one for each specific piece? i may have more questions later.
The blade parts I did 10% gyroid the hilt and handle it think were 20% id recommend 3 walls for the most strength
@@SaturdayMorningProps thank you for the tips and quick reply they are very helpful. I am also a bit new to 3d printing what do you mean by 3 walls?
@@gabrielnoelken6189 default on most printers is 2 walls on the outside of the print but 3 walls would be stronger for this kind of prop
So, I have never 3D printed anything in my life.
What is the most affordable printer you would recommend that is good and big enough to make this buster sword?
Facebook marketplace a CR10
Hi, I've finished printing all the pieces and welding it together following this tutorial. I used bondo and got it sanded ready to prime, however when I lift it the handle it cracks near the bottom of the guard. I've got the rod inside, so it doesn't snap completely off, but it gets loose. I've tried rewelding and bondo in that area, but it still cracks. Not sure what I could do here, did you or anyone else experience this or have any suggestions?
Hmm mine creeks a little if I don't hold the handle right near the guard, but haven't had any cracking in the handle. Is it just breaking free right under the guard? If it's holding together fine maybe just let the be a natural seam where the little piece slides in to the guard
@@SaturdayMorningProps Yeah it's only cracking under the guard. Sort of on the bottom of the handle mount that shoves up into the guard. It can hold together still, so perhaps it will be fine though. Maybe I could have printed the handle mount with more infill? Not sure I'd be able to cleanly replace it now though
@@CherryFresh if you have insta or discord feel free to post some pics more infill may have helped or screwing the handle tighter so there is less wiggle room
Is there a way to buy one form u 🤔 for someone that don't have a 3d printer or a laptop
Message me on Instagram or join the discord and we can chat about it
how long was the m8 rod for your build?
I put a threaded rod through it, it has a nut that hides in the handle and one in a spot by the crossguard, I really wish I filmed that but I was too excited to get it together the rod was a 5/16 thread and 37cm long
I made the handle and it seems way to small and a lot smaller than what you made did you scale it up or anything?
No scaling at all, does it just look small compared to the massive blade 🤣 did you print the end caps to it and see if the sizes match?
@@SaturdayMorningProps I did and some how it looks just fine 😂 kinda makes me scared to print the rest of it but screw it
what size nuts and bolt did you use
The rod size is in the pinned comment
How much did the process cost? How much printing material?
Gosh this has been almost two years ago now, I'd say it's probably 3 rolls maybe and then probably another 50-70 in supplies?
Watching iron blooded orphans in the background
Good eye 😂🤘🏼
@@SaturdayMorningProps I love that show. Hard to not recognize greatness
@@Paetrox yeah seriously epic and barbatos is such a mean looking design of a Gundam.
Which part fits into which side of the guard? If you look at the top the opening is different lengths
Should be able to tell by the length of the bottom T shaped piece

Nope just sprayed it brown 👍🏻

@@theponysparkle it never gets old seeing this thing complete, you're gonna love having a full size buster 🤘🏼
I have a huge Tipp when it comes to the woodfiller: If you leave it out to dry longer than 8 hours (i did it overnight) it really hardens out. This makes it a little harder to work on BUT it wont gum up your Sandpaper anymore. It kinda looked like you using Bondo. The only problem i had with it was that even after Sanding it felt uneven at the end of the Woodfiller Parts, so i handsanded them from an angle to smooth it out. I didnt spray it yet but i hope it will look great :D
I mainly use bondo and upol spot putty, the wood filler reactivates with water which is a problem when wet sanding so I don't use that at all anymore
@@SaturdayMorningProps thats true, luckily (or sadly) my sander isnt made for wetsanding.
@@ilovecats3807 I hand sand most props, except for large flat surfaces like this
The only sword i can make is the nailbat :(
Would be a perfect wall piece
