    Nice collection, clean and organized. Looks like an almost complete set of proof, reverse proof, and burnished ASE (American Silver Eagles). Proofs are graded PFXX and non-proofs are graded MSXX. Grades of 70 are considered perfect examples. The red and green envelopes in the uncirculated set are for two different mint marks P & D. The Eisenhower proof dollars are 40% silver. 1971 was the first year of issue. Any of the Kennedy half dollars 1965-1970 are also 40% silver. C

    It's a bit eerie how similar the collections our dads built are to each other. When I started the video, I was like "wow, that could be my table". He had 1-3 each of all the mint sets (uncirc, proof, and silver) from 68 to 2020 and over 100 slabbed coin; mostly Morgans and Eagles. We knew he had a collection but not the extent. I've now got the fever and am actively adding to it.

    Mint Marks: D=Denver, P=Philadelphia, S=San Francisco, CC=Carson City, O=New Orleans, W=West Point. Cameo is a high contrast between the devices and the field. That 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle set is very nice. Check out the values of the graded Silver Eagles; especially with the W mint mark, and the reverse proof and enhanced finishes.

      Except P for Philadelphia is more recent and not on all coins. The earlier uncirculated and proof sets don't have a P. If there is no mint mark then its Philadelphia.

    You need to take collection to a Local coin shop and let them do an appraisal. 1979 proof set has 2 different Variants of the S mint mark.

    Cool videos Vince!! I think someone already mentioned it but the letters on the coins denote where they were minted (city). Fun to see something a little different. I have a small coin collection myself when I briefly collected as a kid. I havent looked at it in quite a few years. Sounds like subject matter for a future vid. 😊 Thanks for sharing!

      Yes, the 2021 D Morgan dollar in MS 70 is worth maybe around $1000. Or that’s the price on eBay.

    Vince, looks like someone answered your mint-mark question. The -P indicating the coin was struck at the Philadelphia mint, and so forth. No huge values, but it really adds up when you have a lot of $50+ dollar items in the graded coins! Sounds like maybe your dad is still actively collecting. Let me know if you have any questions, my collecting brother! 😊👊

    Still amazed at your instant collection.
    You probably have enough different varieties to make a hundred videos.

    Go for it!

      @@NYYanksFan7 ... I'd watch anything you post.
      It would be cool to watch you document your progress at finding out neat facts about your new stack.
      Or, if you decide to send to ngc for grading video the highlights of your journey.
      Perhaps your finding out what your Dad's motivation behind his collection was.
      Maybe a video of you opening a package you bought with proceeds of any sales of your doubles and we watch as you unwrap some graded Mickey Mantle card.
      I'm a huge MM fan from birth. My brothers were born in 1947 and 1953, and I had no choice but to be a Yankee fan.
      I'm pretty excited to watch a video of you realizing your new silver mine's value.
      Messing with coins can get a little tedious, in my opinion, but pace yourself and get a good magnifying glass. Lol.
      Have great fun doing whatever you decide.

    -O and -CC is New Orleans mint and Carson City. These 2 are no longer in business. A privy is just a commemorative to that mint. The W is WestPoint mint mark.

  • @ottoolsen7640
    @ottoolsen7640 22 дня назад +1

    Vince, this was great. At least with coins the corners are already rounded! NGC and PCGS are the two big coin grading companies. I believe in the uncirculated sets the red and blue differentiate where they were minted Denver or Philadelphia. Someone else already explained the letters you were asking about are where the coins were minted. And when you said the 50 year Kennedy box was bought in the 80s that actually came out in 2014. They minted the first Kennedy half dollars the year after he was shot. I am curious why your dad never bought any gold coins? Or maybe he’s keeping those? 😂

    • @NYYanksFan7
      @NYYanksFan7  22 дня назад

      Nah, he's not keeping any gold coins. Cost is probably the main reason he never picked any up.
