Dell is clearance these in this configuration, except with a 1 TB SSD (Gen4) for $850 (I got an additional $50 off with a SAVE50 promotion that is no longer offered). My cost was $799. At 312 nits, I'm afraid the brightness is a little dim for my taste. However, I like everything else about it and for its price, it's not bad. The 16:10 screen, the removable SSD and Wi-Fi card as well as to at least be able to add the one stick of RAM that is not soldered in, the battery and 1080p webcam with good quality and good internal mic and good audio speakers and you have a machine here that will definitely get the work done. I feel like this year, the Inspirons and Precisions are way more interesting than their consumer laptops. Looking forward to what they do with the new 14" and 16" form factors next year.

I am in a holding pattern for the iPad Pro 12.9 M1. Hoping prices will drop when the M2 is released. I will be using it a lot for my dog portrait and pattern design business.
Nice PC. Camera and mics are good. Screen good. Comparing this to the XPS 9320 this seems better. Better port selection and better camera. Better upgradeability (upgradeable ram). XPS does offer better screen options. I have read that on some of the XPS 9320 that some of the OLED screens come loose and detach. Dell blames it on some third party adhesive they used on this. One has to question quality control. Comparing this to the 9315 I think Dell is going in the wrong direction on the 9315 soldering ssd to the motherboard. If the motherboard goes bad all the data is lost if not backed up. If I were choosing to buy a Dell 13 inch I would go with this over the XPS. Better price and this will easily get the job done.. Great review as always. Your reviews of these many PC's gives one the knowledge to make an intelligent decision when purchasing a PC.

I own the same laptop. When I tried to replace the removable 8Gb RAM with a 32Gb (attempt to make it a total of 8 + 32 = 40Gb). The laptop will not boot up at all. The RAM I was trying to replace with is Crucial DDR5 32Gb 4800 SODIMM CT32G48C40S5, which according to the Crucial official system check, it is compatible. Any idea why please?
Actually, I have figured it out. You need to actually wait for few minutes after powering on, before the laptop can recognize the new memory being installed. All working now, and I have a total of 40Gb RAM!

If you want portability with power this is the laptop to get. What a beast. Also not that much more expensive than a base 7420 model. Well, relatively speaking when comparing other laptops of similar power and size.

Hey, really nice review, looks like a great laptop. I noticed the hinge when open lifts the laptop slightly, was just wondering whether this makes it uncomfortable to use on your lap? Like do the hinges dig in to your legs or not really? Thanks :D
Yes it does dig into one's legs when using as a "laptop". I just received one this weekend and it is quite annoying. The lid edge is just too sharp otherwise it's a nice device
@@jimsego172 i did order it and yeah it was noticeable, but i didn't find it too bad and it wasn't a deal breaker for me. Unfortunately mine CPU throttled while gaming within a few minutes of playing, despite CPU temps being fine, and overall seemed unstable when gaming, so I returned it for a replacement. The replacement behaved the exact same way unfortunately. It's a shame as it would've been an almost perfect laptop for me otherwise.

Watching this from my old inspiron 3135. How times have changed! btw is it just me or are 12th gen intel laptops getting better battery life scores recently? Has there been a windows update or something to finally fix how P and E cores are utilized while on battery?
The first 12th gen devices were high mobility or high performance devices. There are more mainstream devices coming out now, and they're probably tuned very differently than Alienware gaming laptops or XPS thin and lights.
Andrew I was waiting for this review. Did you experience any BSOD or any other major issue with either the 14 or 16 inch variant? I've found way too many negative reviews on the 16 inch's page on Dell's website and am wondering if QC did slack on this one. I'm from the UK so maybe the reviews are different on the US website

The price is similar to the lenovo slim 7i pro X but the screen is way better on the lenovo. More resolution, more nits, 120hz.. For example i got the lenovo with the 3050 and the I5 for 1350€ tax included, it is unreal.
USB C at 100W max, they didn't support PD 3.0 with a "Cheap" laptop so barrel plug is what you get. USB C won't deliver enough power at max CPU and GPU.

The low end bass was really great on this laptop. I wonder how they achieved that sound with 2 watt miniscule speakers

USB4 version 2.0 announced. At 80 Gbps, it has twice the bandwidth of Thunderbolt 4, if I'm not wrong. The Tide has turned.

I did not experience any BSOD
It seems that Dell has fixed it with the new BIOS, I'm not sure, I want to buy it so I check the comments in China.

Surprisd no USB C charger supplied?! Did it surprise you? I have an XPS (which I hate) and that is a similar size and spec, but with USB C charger...
XPS is a MacBook clone, that's why. Inspiron, Latitude and Precisions are productivity laptops.

This is more productivity oriented, it has more ports and usable keyboard but it looks and feels cheaper and the screen and speakers are worse.
