Video Description:
In recent news, speculation about Sergio "Checo" Perez potentially losing his seat at Red Bull has intensified. Despite being second in the championship standings, Perez's recent performance, especially in qualifying, has been underwhelming compared to his teammate Max Verstappen. Christian Horner, Red Bull's team principal, highlighted that while Perez has shown strong race pace, his qualifying results need improvement. This pressure is compounded by Perez's inconsistency, recording only four podiums in the last 13 races and none in the past four. As the season progresses, Perez is acutely aware that securing his position involves maintaining his place in the championship and demonstrating his driving prowess. Red Bull's current dominance means they cannot afford to carry an underperforming driver, and with no obvious replacements, Perez's future at Red Bull is in his hands

If Sergio Perez is dropped at the summer break, I'd concur with the choice of Daniel Ricciardo as an interim replacement while bringing Liam Lawson into the junior team to honor the promise made to him last year. This would be the 'last chance' for Daniel who doesn't have a 2025 contract. If he can't get his mojo back in a vehicle more suited to his driving style then he has his desired exit from the sport (i.e. ending his career with a final drive in a Red Bull). If he does well partnered with Max for the final portion of the year, it still won't guarantee a 2025 drive, but at least Horner & co will have a measuring stick for any alternate driver being considered as well as a back-stop consideration if Max is lured to another team.
It would be great if he gels with the car. If not, well at least the pain for us Ricciardo fans will be over.
I'd put Yuki in the RedBull
Daniel Riccardo is a clown...laughing his way thru 3 teams in the last 3 years...Liam has more stance as a serious driver...can't understand Horner's support for DR...once you move on you never get a second chance...
I agree with this completely.
@@jorgeacamacho5069 by your logic kimi Raikkonen should never have got a 2nd chance at Ferrari, world champion or not..
Danny ric was called up for the alpha tauri seat because he was ripping it in maxes old car in a test. That alone makes sense for him to be driving Max's car specs. And Lawson to rb feels 100% right.
💯 give Ricciardo another chance at redbull with max 😊
I think Danny Ric likes a car similar to Max. And his handy at fine tuning or so the guys at RB cash app guys keeps saying. And that he has helped Yuki a fair bit as well as helped make the car competitive. Sergio seems to like a different car to verstappen too.
Honestly what I think will happen is Checo wont improve over the next 2 races, he will get dropped over the break, Danny Ric will get moved up to main team to see if he can do a better job, Liam will get his seat, and then its a matter of lets see what happens from there.
Put Liam in for Daniel and Daniel in for Checo now. Next year put the Smooth Operator in for Daniel.
Red Bull have already passed on Carlos. If you aren't up on the history he and Max were teammates at Torro Rosso when Max was 16-18 and Carlos got Butt Hurt that Max got the call up to Red Bull and not him. (Yet Max won the first race he was ever in the Red Bull car.) But the two never liked each other and Carlos would never accept even now the fact the he's the #2 driver to what will be the 4 time reigning world champion. I would really see how Lawson does in the VRB for the rest of the year and look at him as a viable long term replacement. He was better than both Yuki and Dani last year when he got to drive.
I agree. Poor Checco, but he’s just not cutting it now.
Huge butt, and that is that Danny ain’t it (the answer).
You gotta move Yuki to the RB for the remainder of the season and throw Liam in the Racjng bulls
yuki to RB, Liam for yuki. Daniel out at the end of the year for one of the young RB talents.

Ricardo still has the knife he stuck in his own back in 2019.
just dani's luck to get switched into the redbull as soon as it's not the best car anymore. nice intro btw
Haha yeah! Thanks, DJ Bubbles is here to stay!
How people keep saying DR is done without knowing whether max or even checo would do any better in the VCARB car is beyond me.. F1 has never been known for performance parity between their cars like the carrera cup would be
Exactly! Well said!
Riccardo does not need to be better than Perez, just have a chance of being better. If Daniel is the same or even worse than Perez they are still out of the points and no worse off than before, and then at least they know the need to seriously look for anyone for next year and not waste time with either of them. But if there is even chance he just connects with the Red Bull car, or even if he is good enough to take a few more points, then they are ahead.
i hate tht Yuki is never in serious consideration despite a stellar performance compared to Ricciardo.
Same!
He won't realistically be able to cope with the Red Bull car and the amount of front end, its philosophically the polar opposite to the VCARB and it would be career suicide for Yuki. A car closer to the Aston Martin, VCARB or even Williams would be better
@theversatile8151 totally agree, I don't understand how more people don't understand this factor.
Seems like Checo signed his new contract and forgot how to drive
Is Checo performing any worse than other drivers that have partnered Max at Red Bull? I seem to remember Gasly and Albon (both pretty good drivers) also struggling. Maybe it's not so much Perez, but something else that is going on...
Yes considerably worse and consistent with his mid season slumps, being out qualified by all the red bulls drivers and Logan sargent more than once is a sign.
Even if he performs as well(bad) as Gasly and Albon, it is logical for him to be kicked out as those two were so you can't mean he should stay?
@@bennylloyd-willner9667 I agree with you. It's just odd is all.
I like Danny Ric but what has he shown to deserve the big seat?
Performance wise nothing, so I reckon it's just the only option Horner will take at the moment :/
@@WheelSports and you made a great point about replacing sponsorship money
Commercially he's still a very viable replacement of Checo.
Pace wise, at worst he's going to be at the same level of Checo right now. At best, he'll be much, much closer to Max.
Nah he's a quitter he had his chance when MV first joined the team but when the battle got tough DR done what Italians are famous for and quit the team
Yuki!
It's looking like from Marko's side at least he wants to drop Ricciardo in favour of Lawson. At the same time I was reading rumours of Williams dropping Sargeant mid-season and we've had rumours Ricciardo's team was talking with Williams after claiming he wasn't talking to any other teams just a week or so prior.
I've been really disappointed with what keeps happening with Checo at Red Bull. He probably will bounce back at some point but with how tight it is at the front he's going to struggle to fight for decent points considering his gap to Max.
Yeah it's been a weird waiting game for Sainz but I think Red Bull is ready to make decisions now that the Sainz stuff doesn't really effect them anymore, they've made their choice and the wrong one by turning down Sainz!
Yeah it seems like as soon as the can gets into that window of being more pointy at the front he goes away from him, given it's the same tracks every year, maybe there's something to how they need to set the cars up for these european tracks? :/
@@WheelSports only thing I can think is Sainz is holding out for Mercedes. The other teams will probably wait late into the season if they really want Sainz. But it could be very risky if he pushes his luck. I don't see him going back to the Red Bull family as I don't think Max would get on well with him. Apparently there is a bit of tension with both drivers dads.
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's the car development that is making the car more pointy and making it harder for Checo to adapt.
I was looking for information on Liam's filming day test. Apparently it's being reported as "underwhelming". 2 tenths off Max's benchmark time. Very strange as Ricciardo did a time good enough to be on the front row next to Max last year, we never got an actual time but he must have put in a time within 2 tenths as well.
Sure they offered him a year, he countered it with a two year so Redbull would take rhe opportunity to rewrite the contract but it Horner kept him and look how long he's keeping Ricardo... Redbull can't put Ricardo back in that seat, a pure sign of weakness in the ranks. They have to put Lawson or Yuki in the seat now.
With Ricciardo in the second Redbull the team has a great line up and they can configure similar cars. That weird twitchy car setup that Max uses is also the one Ricciardo prefers. Only downside is that Max could get some competition of his own team mate. But it would be nice that Max could get some help in front. Right now he is carrying the whole team.

Only 2 people at Red Bull know and they aren't talking.

Do you do this at every RUclipsr's video?
What about at birthday parties? 😂
Interesting, and I’m in agreement, but the haters will hate. But I’d still love to see it 😁. DR👍
It makes sense since Ricciardo's 2025 contract states he will either be racing for VCARB or Red Bull but does the clause on Perez's contract say he will be demoted to VCARB if he doesn't make the quota or just that he will have to straight away leave F1 and join a series like Turkmenistan F4?
Daniel Ricciardo?
He won't make things much better...
I agree.
Yesssssssss ricccccc come on ❤🎉
Not sure why they just don’t put Danny and Tsnudo on track for a testing day or two
As far as I’m aware, they’re not allowed. I think they’ve got to use young drivers but I might be mistaken
They could do this with the limited filming days or in 2 year old cars. I guess the reason is they can extract the data from previous tests and the current on track, accounting for the differences in style etc.
@@spam_eye It seems like the case. I remember they had Danny test a redbull and Horner saying he pulled off laps 0.1 away from Max. Not sure why they can't do it with Yuki, but I think they've never been too serious about Yuki since he's only performing consistently this year.
I think Dan is actually a decent choice... This is an absolute "feel" take but Dans highs just seem higher than yukis, even in the rb. Yes, Yuki is absolutely out performing Dan in general but I am biased and I do not care. Great vid man.
Thank fuck, Riccardo is an amazing driver and yes he hasn’t had a Stella season, he has improved massively he is starting to score points consistently and is out qualifying and out competing checo in a car that is washed in comparison, in the silverstone test last year Riccardo’s time was close to Verstappens and he could fight for race wins and I believe he is the right fit for the Redbull seat
Checo is in a complicated situation. First: He has a genius as teammate and obviously whole team working for him (yes, it is). Second: The Red Bull environment is toxic with dr Marko in there which increase pressure for more performance. Third: I believe that Checo keeps rancor about 2022, when 1 year before he helped Max with that move holding Lewis and not received help for his vice championship (yes, Max has ignored some orders about it). So, I believe to be a mix of frustration and I think that the best way is Checo to leave Red Bull and stand 1-2 years out of Formula 1, perhaps driving WEC or GT and returning like Alex Albon.
If Checo had a car like Verstappen’s we would be looking at a champion. Give him what he needs to succeed instead of thinking of replacing him! He is one of the best drivers I have seen.
He has the same car, the setups can change etc, but it's a cost cap era, they don't have the money to make seperate parts for Checo and if he had old spec they'd have to log that when Max gets upgrades.
I'm a Checo fan and he's an incredible driver, but it's not working out at Red Bull.
Daniel makes sense t replace Cheko, the team like him, Max likes him, he will happily play second fiddle to Max. If he fails then at least that dream is over, Liam to the Vcarb team would help lock in a young talent and give a proper measuring stick for Yuki. Sadly it just seem Red bull are not whiling to move Yuki up to the main team. Red Bull are in a lucky position in that they have five decent drivers and dont need to bring in an outsider
I think all teams should swap in drivers if the one of their drivers has lost form. It's good for the sport.
Daniel was very good in a car developed under Vettel's guidance. When he had to guide development himself things didn't progress much. The team started to listen more and more to Verstappen and Daniel dropped slowely off. Daniel lost the battle over team teadership so he left suddenly to leave Red Bull single handed.
Probally DR gets the seat next to Max 'cause they are 'good friends'. With performances simular to Checo's his popularity and with that his marketability wil degrade very fast.
W'll see how this pans out.
Yeah I don't think he'll be much better than Checo, it really depends what version of Danny we get too and his acceptance of a number 2 role.
However I don't see it being a long term strategy, just the only option that Horner will accept at the moment!

I love riccardo and i think the biggest reason for his slump is the car. redbull and renult he liked the car it had a good front end but as soon as he got into other cars with weak front ends hes washed???? Still think hes the same driver as he was just not as young anymore
put Danny Ric in the RB know (last chance) & Liam in the Visa RB.... at season end Danny Ric is either Yay or Nay once and for all. Poor Checo is in a hole atm
So, Ricciardo is not good enough for Alphatauri, but good enough for Red Bull or what??
