    In the Northeast US, we pronounce both words (actually a lot of words) like the British do, without pronouncing the R at the end, unless the next word starts with a vowel. Here it's known as "The Boston Accent". Matt Damon is a great example of someone who speaks with a Boston Accent. As you move further south and west, people start to pronounce the R's

      In Bristol and the south west of the U.K. we definitely pronounce our R’s at the end of words

      Jamaican english is based off British English, many people fail to understand this. This includes Indian English too.

    It's so weird when you hear someone say "meer" (refering to a mirror) for the first time...
    That was many years ago for me.
    Now I've observed that not only (some) Americans say "meer" but also some Irish people.

      You do say "meer"?
      That is totally fine - almost everyone is using some kind of regional "accent" and there is nothing wrong with that.
      All I was trying to say is - that if someone is used to hear people pronouncing this word "mirra" or "mirror" for decades, it's really weird to hear someone for the first time to pronounce it "meer".
      Especially because it might take a while until you start realizing what "meer" is supposed to mean. (Depending on the context...)

      ​@@HongaarseDuifIt's just a matter of T in Indian languages being different from English T. T in English is often aspirated and Native English speakers don't even notice this. On the other hand Indian T is unaspirated and sometimes with dental stop if the speaker has a "heavy accent". Another thing Indians do is use the aspirated T for voiceless Th sounds eg. Three becomes "Tree" and Tree becomes तree. Also voiced Th becomes D, like "this" becomes "dis". You don't quite pronounce "Thailand" as "ThighLand", do you? It has to be "tʰailand", in other words "aspirated T".

    Being from the Boston USA area the British pronunciation of words ending in “r” Is common to the locals.

    In British Scottish we always pronounce the ‘r’ at the end, in fact we keep it rolling for quite some time

    I would say more accurately that it's Southern British English. In the parts of the UK (most notably Scotland) where a rhotic dialect predominates, the final r is always enunciated.

      I like the way the R in the middle or end of a word is pronounced, It helps us easily distinguish one word from another.

    Depends on which UK accent you use - many do vocalise the final r albeit very softly.

    It is not because it's at the end it's because in British Dialects you don't pronounce the R if it's after a vowel, typically seen as -er like "Water"
