    Thanks. These are so helpful -- I'm replacing an '03. Except ... Subarus are never replaced; they're merely succeeded. Oh, the stories our cars could tell ... Like driving my '03 home from work for the first time ... in a sleet storm, natch ... and watching a Hummer fishtail on the interstate in front of me. I tried not to gloat, but my car held the road like a little Velcro tank!

    Alex-your tutorials helped us buy a 2022 Subaru Forester Touring. We are both in our 80's and lifetime buyer of GM cars and vans. It was a long 6 month wait for a delivery but worth the wait. We find the safety systems outstanding and in some cases hilarious. While having guests in the back seat, the monitor on the dash kept giving me "pay attention" shout outs. We discovered that one guest kept looking between the seats and the system got confused between his eye movement and mine. I suggested he was just ugly...lots of laughter all around. I am still trying to find a way to view engine temperatures and oil pressures ( a GM holdover). If you have a hint it will be appreciated. You missed your calling as a professor. Great videos.

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  2 года назад +3

      Thanks Brian! Happy to hear they have been helpful and that you and your family are enjoying your Forester! The Touring trim has a center multi-function display just above the touch screen radio where you can access the engine temp. To access, just clock the "info" button on the left hand side of your steering wheel until you get to the display that shows the temp gauge. Hope this helps! Let me know if you still have trouble finding it.

You have given me so much useful information it’s unbelievable. These videos are so good and so useful I would recommend them to anyone who owns a Subaru. The dealerships should offer the information that you are available. I just wanted to thank you so much. I love my Subaru…Don’t get me wrong, but really, I feel like you need a college course to learn all the features in this vehicle.😊 once again, thank you so much for all your useful information. I had just commented on an later video that you did but it did not explain a lot about the Forrester. So I went back and found this video and it explained a lot. So I believe my problems with the cruise control could be I am trying to put in a speed that won’t work because the car ahead of me is not going fast enough. So next time I get on the freeway I’m gonna try the cruise control and make sure I do that without a car ahead of me when I set the speed. You did an excellent explanation of all the controls in the Forrester. So I don’t believe you need to do any further explanation so far. I definitely will let you know if I still have difficulty with the cruise control once I get out on the freeway next time. Thank you so much Alex. I definitely want to be able to use all the controls in the car especially with putting so much money into it every month. Have a happy holidays as I’m posting it it’s the day before Thanksgiving 2021.

    Thank you Alex for another excellent video! I do have a question about the description of Xmode at approx. 15:30. My understanding is that the Forester’s awd system in standard or default mode shifts power from the wheels without traction to those that have it. I thought that Xmode is more for getting unstuck or avoiding getting stuck in snow , sand, or mud by actually turning off that diverting of power from one wheel to another allowing all the wheels to spin more freely. I have a Forester Wilderness with 2 Xmodes, but I think the same thing applies. A recent Driving Sports TV video and subsequent discussion covered this. The Forester standard or default awd was said to be best for hard slippery surfaces, whereas X mode was best for not being stuck in snow, mud, or sand. Please let me know if I’ve got that right?

    Thank you for this. I've just taken delivery of my Forester and was finding the owner's manual quite confusing. Interesting that there are a number of different options in the USA from mine in Australia. In particular, I have a button marked LIM which is not mentioned in the manual at all. Still trying to work out exactly how that works.

      So funny, my husband is on his third Outback, I disliked them all. Being a Toyota loyalist, I had my heart set on a Rav-4. I’d have had to buy the most expensive model to get many features that were standard on my Forester premium. I gave my beloved 2006 Matrix (w/few features) to my daughter. Then I want and bought the best vehicle I’ve ever had, 2021 Forester. The fully adjustable seat makes my tailbone injury bearable.

    The gas tank lid should be open with the rest of the vehicle locked especially since the driver's door is on the other side of the car. The driver's door in this situation is vulnerable to someone entering the vehicle while you pump gas on the other side of the vehicle.

    Alex- really well done. Thanks so much! I was wondering on the backup camera, if you can make it come on when you’re not backing up. I had a car that allowed you just to turn it in. Or if you have to put it in reverse first. If it is possible to just put it on, I’d love a video on that. If not, no worries. Also, A video on how to get automatic updates over wifi would be great. I’m not sure what all is required. I think there was someway to connect it to your house Wi-Fi. It wasn’t in my settings, so I may not have that ability. Thx!

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  3 года назад +1

      As far as I know, the back up camera only comes on when in reverse. If it comes on when in another gear I’d think something was wrong. Not sure how to connect the car to WiFi but I’ll look into that!

    • @arocee
      @arocee 3 года назад +1

      There is an option in the settings menu to specify how long the backup camera stays on after shifting out of reverse. I set mine to 7 seconds which is very helpful for checking that I have pulled into my garage far enough for the door to close safely without going in too far (it is a tight fit for the Subu with all the other stuff we have in it). When I get in what I think is far enough, based on positioning with some things on the wall next to the passenger window, a quick switch to Drive after putting it into reverse gives me a view of where the red "crosshairs" are in relation to the seam between the driveway and the edge of the garage floor, and I can use the 7 seconds to see where I am when I pull forward, or back up a bit more to "fine tune" the postioning.

    I brought my Subaru Forester in Feb 2021. I was given a one time quick 15 min walk through on all of the technology in the car. I was left with a lot of questions. I just found your site. It answered all of my questions. I have a bit of a concern about my car. I am wondering if you can help me out. You mentioned in your video, that the car can get 29mpg. I have only gotten up to 26mpg on the average. Two weeks ago, I filled it full of gas and parked in my driveway for 2 days. For the first 73 miles, it slowly went from 16mpg to 22. It won't go pass that. I am now back to half a tank of gas. I live in Orange County, CA. I drive the streets a lot more than I do the freeways. Appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you again for a great video!!
