    Nice review, I like that you have used both sprayers quite a bit before giving your opinion which gives your thoughts more weight. I just got the same kit and am starting my spray painting journey, I have only done a couple of doors do far, but they look far better than my previous brush painting efforts. I think that I have come to the conclusion that painting is more of an art than a science, no two jobs are the same and no two paints the same, so it is always trial and error.

      Thanks. I use every product for quite awhile before I review them for that exact reason. Absolutely it is. I just used this to spray the outside of my shed & also my garden fence , some tips I have
    Wear disposable latex gloves ( your hands get paint all over them )
    Definitely water down your paint 10 %
    Be aware when using the large paint pot the unit is quite heavy
    If paint starts to spray & drip out weirdly clean the head unit completely
    I would hate to use this over head doing a ceiling etc ,would be heaps quicker to roll it
    I would never use it indoors ,it’s quite messy & paint pellets would be everywhere
    Would be perfect for small projects like spraying furniture etc
    Great for colour bond fencing etc
    Highly recommend for the right job

    Hi CanadiYan, lol great name i'm up here too. My old man just got this identical sprayer today or yesterday, i'm helping him re-cedar shingle his house and paint it on my days off work. we got two, two story sides done in the past two summers and the painting took forever. cracks between shingles are a nightmare. keep in mind i'll be spraying brand new laid shingles, using a latex primer and 2 coats of paint+primer topcoat, shaded with tarps hung on staging very well, how do think its gonna go when i get out there on thursday lol? gonna be a beautiful day, no wind i predict, putting on 2nd top coat (i'll practice on the back of the garage or something which also needs to be painted), and go to 'er. great review and good tips, need all the help i can get. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Hi. Thank you so much for your review. So I intend on using this spray gun to paint an enclosed porch- the ceiling, walls (brick veneer and wood), while having everything else plastic taped off. We will be using bullseye 1-2-3 primer and exterior paint. I know the exterior paint will be thick. Just wanted to know if both of these should be thinned and if there is anything I should be cautious of?

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  4 года назад +1

      Hey, thanks for watching! I tend to find that anything I spray through this I thin down to the consistency of somewhere between chocolate syrup and chocolate milk lol if that makes sense. Basically make it easily pourable, but not runny. It tends to spray much nicer and atomize better to a finer mist. Definitely spray a couple test pieces first, like I said to get your flow rate and arm speed correct so you don't get runs or dry spray from going too slow or fast. And over spray is the biggest thing to watch for, it will get everywhere in the air. Also, with fast drying paints and being outdoors, make sure to wipe the air nozzle tip off every couple of mins, or if you stop for any amount of time because it will start building a film at the tip. That's all I can think of, it really does speed up a job big time once you get the hang of it. Good luck!

    We got this exact sprayer last summer.Started with undiluted latex and got some horrible spatter. used a flow control additive for the rest of the project but still had to back brush some. This year we are using the same sprayer for rough siding and using a solid color acrylic deck stain. I liked your video ! It sounds like we are better off just using water to dilute ?? Agree ? Thanks

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  5 лет назад +1

      Seems to be a common theme of first results are terrifying lol but yeah, no fancy stuff with acrylic needed. Just a little bit of water, like 10% is all to the cup and a good stir. It levels really well. Fan speed on max and flow nozzle on the trigger wide open. Have a fairly fast hand speed while spraying and it worked great for me. I did all my doors and trim in my house and it is smooth as glass. With a stain you may want to back roll it quickly after spraying anyway tho, just gives a more uniform finish, but still way faster than doing it by hand

    thank you for the honest review, i bought one of these a while ago and am a complete newbie to spraying and was quite intimidated with the whole thing but this has helped my confidence to give it a go. Just curious, do you tend to spray light coats or heavy coats with this for best effect?? and compared to brush drying times - how does the spray drying times compare - do you need to leave it for the same amount of time to dry or can you respray it sooner?? Thanks in advance, have subscribed and look forward to watching your other vids

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  4 года назад +2

      Thanks and you're welcome. I tend to spray medium coats, if that makes sense. I have found if you spray too light it dries a bit coarse to the touch as the paint is drying in the air as it flies to the piece you're spraying. But too heavy will obviously lead to runs. I tend to stay about 8 inches away and have fast arm speed to get full coverage with the first coat. It definitely just takes some practice sprays to see what works for you. As for drying times it is about the same as brushing, maybe a bit faster but not much. Hope that helps, any more questions just ask!

      Maximum setting for fan speed for the product you are using. In the instructions it gives you a min and max guideline depending on what your spraying, but I have found the max setting for that product to always be best (clear coat it says 1-3 but 3 is best for smooth finish, so max setting for that product.) However your flow control you need to set yourself depending on how much product you want coming out. I typically set it around 1/4 to 1/2 open, then spray a test piece to make sure

      That I have not done, but now that I'm used to the gun I wouldn't be scared to either. It would definately speed up the process of painting, just take a bit more to clean it since you'd need a chemical. Just adjust the fan speed to 6 or 7 and do some test sprays!

      Absolutely! I used it to spray all the ceilings in my house, and I also use it to clear coat all my projects,then I used it to spray all my baseboard. The nozzle pick up in the cup is all you need to adjust. Forward facing to spray down, rearward facing to spray up, super simple

  • @chelin7023
    @chelin7023 4 года назад

    Hi! I just used the sprayer and had some troubles; I had splatter galore and too much paint. The splatter seemed to be related to not having enough paint in the container, I think, and the excess paint maybe I was too slow moving my hand ( I don’t know). I also noticed that when assembling the parts, the yellow part is difficult to push in and when doing it so, the trigger has to be pulled until the black ring is screwed all the way, so the yellow ring stays in place. Did you have that problem?
    Thank you for the advise. For beginners like myself, is of great value to have someone with experience, showing the how-to’s.

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  4 года назад

      Hi, sorry for the late response. Typically with the splatter I've found it to be because of the paint being too thick. Adding about 10% water and mixing in the cup I've found works best to get to to flow better and self level on the project. Also too thick being applied. Spray some test cardboard or something to get the flow and arm speed how you like it. I like it fully open on the trigger but I have a very fast arm speed, basically I can spray a door completely in about 5 seconds, that's how fast my arm moves. If you are moving slower, don't feel bad about dialing back the flow control behind the trigger to work for you. I'm also not sure what your talking about. Do you mean the large fan body and cup head attachment won't snap together in the middle?

    • @surveyguyor8958
      @surveyguyor8958 4 года назад

      Me too. for anyone else reading this, I've used mine for years. and still i get very frustrated. Make sure the hole is clear (where the little tube goes) and the little hole in the white gasket. but i still get those huge sideways spatters that piss me off. I think the thinning would help. I will be using flowtrol. It doesn't have the effect on paint like it's all watery and could break the paint, it flows without "thinning" (if that makes sense). Usually i only use flowtrol when it's hot out, but maybe this will help with my frustrations at other times.

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  3 года назад

      Unfortunately no I haven't. I tend to stick away from oils unless absolutely necessary. And even then, I'd be hesitant to spray it, not because I think it'll wreck the sprayer tho. I dont trust myself to spray correctly and clean it well enough after. You'd have to use whatever chemical your specific paint is needed for cleanup. Pour some in the cup and rinse it out fully. Then I'd add some more and spray some of the chemical to clean the inside out until it sprayed clear. Then take it apart and soak and clean the pieces

      Honestly in this case either one would work, you may just need to dial in the settings a bit. I may have the fan on 3 or 4 to start, and adjust whether you want a large or small fan spray pattern if using the big head, then adjust the flow control behind the trigger to match your arm speed. Spray a test piece of wood and if you get runs or something either move your arm quicker or back the flow off at the trigger a bit. If you don't like the look of the spray pattern still if using the big spray head, then switch to the smaller spray head. Does that make sense? I hope it helps

    We need a sprayer that can use an oil base primer on popcorn ceilings, yet use a latex on walls and trim. Can this sprayer be cleaned using mineral spirits? The manager at our local paint store said we would need to buy 2 different sprayers since cleaning for the oil base would ruin the plastic mechanics inside.

    • @JessedoesDIY

      He is wrong, you can absolutely use oil based and mineral spirits. It even tells you in the instructions how to clean with water or mineral spirits, and gives you setups for latex and oil based paints. You can pretty much spray anything with this, and clean with the recommended cleaner, it doesn't care. He may have just been trying to sell you 2, or was misinformed

    I have quick question. You know on the back of paint cans where it may say "8 square meters per L" or whatever, how is the application rate affected by this tool? Would you able cover twice the area than with a conventional brush/roller? Looking to paint a large picket fence.

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  5 лет назад +1

      Well I haven't done the math lol but my experience is you actually get better coverage, faster by spraying it. Not to mention you save a boatload of time. But with paint I would save maybe 1/4 liter less per liter than rolling. It is slightly more efficient depending on arm speed and coat thickness, but it is offset by dry spray that just goes off into the wind. It's almost even application either way. Time is the big factor, omg the time saving

      It is drying in the tip, give it a good wipe with a shop towel and make sure it's super clean after every few mins of use. Downside of it being a air sprayer is the pressure is so high that can happen. But I do find a shop towel gets it much cleaner than my finger. Either that, I've also found if my paint is too thick in the cup it doesn't atomize as well, maybe a bit of thinning would help

      Check the blue tip cap. I've had it do that but it was because I had dried material in the tip from not cleaning it correctly. I relearned the whole gun just in case really well, and cleaned the tip with that wire brush again and it works fine again

      Ahhhhhh! Got ya lol sorry. Actually I've found that once you finish spraying, a small amount of overspray will dry on the tip. I just let it because it blocks the inside of it from air then and stop anything from drying out. Then you can usually make it a day or so before you wash it if absolutely necessary. Just peel the little bit of pain off the tip, open it up, put the paint back in the can and get to cleaning, keep a small scuff pad handy incase there is some dry paint somewhere but it usually all comes off as the paint doesn't stick to the gun. As for oil paint I don't know if the same applies as I haven't used oil paint. But oil stain and clear coats I can do the same thing. I fill it, spray, let the tip dry, come back in 4 hours, peel the tip and keep spraying.

    Unless you plan on always pointing the gun straight forward and not up or down ( and forget having to turn the gun on it's side) my advice is stay away from these things. Splatter-spitting, wrist-vibrating, gimmicky pains in the A$$ is what they are. Go get a stationary pump with a hose and nothing to hold but the trigger and tip. Even if it's a cheaper model....you'll be SOOOOOOO much happier. Cleanup is more involved BUT, you get to NOT have that damn piston beating the heck out of your wrist; you can hold the gun at any angle without losing paint flow; the finish is MUCH more easily dialed in for the different materials; and you can achieve a MUCH more consistent finish. This is all ASSUMING though that the FINISH quality is your priority. Don't get me wrong....you CAN spray down and up and hold the gun sideways if you need......IF you like refilling the cup every minute or two. You see, if the cup is not almost completely full, then when you tilt it up or down or sideways, the tube in there sucks air into the system and.....yeah.....that'll make you want to throw a fit. Oh....the pickup tube in the cup has a little bend in it so you can rotate it to keep it in the paint when you're tilting it. Wonderful......so every little bit, you get to take the cup off, figure out which way you need to face the bend in the tube, and then grab that tube that is covered in paint and twist it in that direction, then screw the paint-filled cup back on and continue working, then repeat when you need to tilt a different direction or refill the cup. A big mess of and a REAL TIME WASTER! Honestly, go get a real airless rig - cheap model or not. You'll be MUCH happier.

    Junk junk junk stainer 350 lasted 30min blows hot air from cooling the the electric motor out the tip to spray stain/paint drying 10x faster clogging it up every time you take the tip off to clean it it dumps a quart of the 30 dollar stain/paint you bought on the ground end up using my 9.99 harbor freight gun that I have used to paint 2 cars and a bunch of other crap needless to say poor design for somthing as simple as srap painting comes from a dollar tin can better.
