I participated in kalolsavam from 2013 to 2018 and secured A grade for Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Keralanadanam... Now I'm 22 years old and even now I get excited when the Kerala State Youth festival is held... I'll always cherish my kalolsavam memories ❤️❤️...And yes, the food served by Pazhayidam Namboothiri deserves a special mention💗 For us it's a festival rather than a competition ☺️...
Kerala has science sports and arts festivals in school higer secondary and college levels but the potential of some students decrease afterwards. No support for young talents.
This events is the best thing about Kerala Litracy. People especially students can share and know many information and art in this kind of venue. Moreover now they can make a chance in Tv and cinema and shortfilm etc.

This is the event where students,teachers,staffs and audience where unite beyond the relegion and cast.Moreover these festivals can preserve our tradition.
It's a well organized high level competition. School level- sub district level- district level - state level. Winners in each level advanced to other higher level. Judging will be a difficult task. The participation of the crowd, the media exposure etc makes the festival in the limelight for the happening days. Also, participating kids are given grace marks in final board exams according to their obtained grade. This ensures support from parents also . I am surprised that no other states even with bigger facilities and culture couldn't conduct such a festival. It's a real shame. Kerala recently conducted it's 61st State school kalolsavam..!!

Classical music, Bharatha natyam, kuchipudi, yaksha ganam, violin, veena, mruthangam, guitar, tabala, nadaswaram, pullamkuzhal, oppana, duff muttu, etc,.. origin of atleast these items are definitely not from Kerala. Items like drawing, painting, recitation, story writing, lite music etc, do not have a known origin, so i would definitely consider that majority of items in the festival are from other parts of India or foreign origin.
Something missed, I believe... This is not just like a common art event... every district is in the race for first place, and the winning district will get a golden trophy. As well as whoever got A,B,C grades will grace marks of 30 in annual examination. And it's good for students who are well performing in arts events.
Kalolsavam is a celebration of culture more than anything but it is a shame this event also went to pollute by interceptions of politicians and unworthy media's

Probably, these will be present at a smaller scale in other states as well.. But the difference is that in Kerala, this cultural festival hogs the limelight and is the main headlines in newspapers and TV News throughout its duration. That's why it is special.
While we progress and move forward with the time we should also uphold our cultural arts, songs, dance forms, drama etc. This should be implemented in every Indian states. I see political parties preaching about upholding our culture and keeping it alive but no necessary actions are being taken. They simply put a front and many citizens go along with it, stupidly. India has a very vast cultural diversity. I'm sure there will be atleast a minimum of 10 different artforms from within a state. Let's have cultural festivals to keep them alive and don't let it die in the pages of a history book.

Now, at the age of 36, After 15 years this 2024, the event made its way back to my hometown. Curious and intrigued, I ventured to the venue where the event was being held and was pleasantly surprised by the vibrant spectacle unfolding before my eyes. Witnessing the sheer joy emanating from the children, the event was a kaleidoscope of colors and encouragement, illuminated by a myriad of lights. Unable to fully articulate the experience, I realized I had missed out on a golden period of opportunities during my youth. Observing the happiness and, conversely, the sadness etched on the faces of some children, I could also discern the elation on the faces of parents and the entire audience. People from diverse parts of Kerala had congregated for this festival, transforming the city into a hub of festivities. The audience resembled a massive, bustling crowd, with more than 35,000 people gathered in a single ground. From the bus stand to railway stations, the entire city seemed to pulsate with the spirit of the festival. The native inhabitants displayed a commendable spirit of unity, rendering assistance to one another. Auto-rickshaw drivers and buses crisscrossed the area, extending support to students. It was heartening to see the concerted efforts of both the government and private organizations, working tirelessly to ensure the colossal success of the events. Kudos to the entire team involved in orchestrating this grand celebration. What took me by surprise was the realization that such events were seemingly exclusive to Kerala, not replicated in other states across India. In my opinion, the impact of these events goes beyond mere festivities; they serve as a valuable avenue for children to develop facets of extracurricular activities, fostering holistic growth.

CBSE schools used to be a part till 90s. Then Kerala govt stopped allowing them to take part. Now private CBSE schools association "Sahodaya" has their own Kalolsavam.
