I saw KISS in 1978. My first concert and I’ve never forgotten how my little
8 year old eyeballs were blurry from how loud Gene’s bass was. I’ve never forgotten that. I had a COOL much older brother who took me. I now play music for a living as a touring musician.
And it was because of these guys. Peace!

What people don't get about Kiss, is that they made it so effing fun. Made us all wanna be rock stars. Yeah yeah yeah, heard all the complaints about them. But they were cool as F. And it stands the test of time. Let's go write a Kiss song!

This particular performance shows how good of a guitar player Ace was at his peak. I hear some fans talk about how much better Bruce Kulick is or Vinnie Vincent or Tommy Thayer. I could care less how one guitarist might have better skills. Ace’s style was crucial to the band’s overall sound.

I'm very lucky to have seen them back in the late 70's and again in 2019, just before the pandemic. I have COPD and that show at the Barclay's put me in the hospital from smoke inhalation. The guys filming this would have been there the next night filming a ball game or the next band that was playing. I've never been a big Kiss fan. Actually saw them by accident on their first tour opening for Blue Oyster Cult. Had no idea who they were. My friend & I were tripping on mescaline & when they came on we were both like "what in the fuck is this shit!" lol. They were fun though & this recording actually shows how tight & good they could play. I like it.

Ya know, Gene and Paul talk about professionalism, and the lack thereof with Ace and Peter, but EVERYTIME I ever watch a KISS concert or performance, the one dude who is ALWAYS hitting wrong notes is GENE! Everytime!!! He doesn't do it every song, but ALWAYS does it during a really important part of the song. He even did on the Midnight Special appearance.
By the same token, the only person I never hear mess up, unless his EQUIPMENT FAILS, is Ace! Every show I've seen, he never messes up his parts!

That's because Gene and Paul spend so much time jumping around instead of concentrating on playing their instruments.
