Just recently joined your RUclips channel, I just watched 1st video when you picked up the jeep, found out Steve is your dad ,and you work with your brother, How lucky can you be having a master restoration dad like Steve, and your brother as backup, 3 amigos, you boys took after your father two champions, humble like your father.
Always nice to see an engine strip down even though that one would have benefited from rather more oil changes than it's had in its life. But I think the overhead crane will never talk to you again, after the embarrassment of being asked to lift something that probably weighs less than its hook assembly!
It was nice to get stuck into stripping the engine and seeing what was going on in there! It would have benefitted from more oil changes yes, but hopefully we can get it looking brand new soon! Also, you are right! that hook assembly is heavy! But i just wanted to take it for a quick walk to stretch its legs
This car has done more offroad than on road by the looks of this engine! Buy this is decent Japanese workmanship, so I take it that the clearances will be just as the factory specified! Nice one! Learning on the job! Best thing ever!
Hi Ryan , yet another awesome learning tutorial, Pay attention class the teacher is speaking, no mucking about with you lads, .thanks so much your skills and knowledge from your videos are helping me attack my 1981 Ford falcon bodywork, everything.
Thank you so much Starr! I really appreciate your kind comment! We always like to get stuck in and get the job done! I'm so glad we can help you with your build! Good luck with the Ford Falcon! I'm sure you will do it no problem!!!
Good vid Ryan, Yes the "Suck it and see" is the best way. Ive pulled and stripped plenty. 2 bits of advice on your engine use a longer tube on the wee black one that came with the stand. It gives you more control over the turn and finally. Power wash the engine outside . Stops all the shit that is on it now having to be cleaned when the ports are open. Go on Yersel bud. Later
Thank you William! I was just winging it really, and the full strip took just over 2 hours, so not bad in all honesty! Also, thanks for the advice! Cheers
Now you've done all that throw the 800 lump away and get hold of a 1 litre F10 engine complete and drop that in instead, makes a big improvement and, depending on which version of the F10 engine you use, virtually a straight swap. Get rid of that carb as well, not very reliable, fit an SJ410 or a an SU or Stromberg.
@@yorkshirecarrestoration Whizz kid SC100 were the best as they had bigger valves, but pretty rare now, SJ410 are the easiest swap, basically just swapping sumps manifolds etc and cutting down the gearbox layshaft as most SJ's had a spigot bearing in the flywheel rather than the crank (apart from pre 85 ones), Rascals/Supercarry's have the F10 engine but there is no cam to drive the fuel pump. Got at least 3 spare F10's but I'm keeping them!
@@davidlee2624 Seems a decent simple swap! They are simple engines to be fair, that's why working on classics is a lot easier! Less things to go wrong ha!
Evening buddy 😊 I know this channel is about you and Steve fix rust buckets up lol 😆 But refreshing seeing something just a little different keeping your channel nice and fresh 👍🏻
Evening Stevie. It was very nice doing some engine work for a change :) I enjoyed figuring out how to take it apart and it was refreshing not having to deal with rust haha thanks!
Well done Ryan - looked like you (almost) knew what you were doing - I will be asking for tips when I take my one out. Do you think the new stand will hold a large 6 cylinder lump!
I definitely (almost) knew what I was doing! Ahh not a problem! It was nice to get stuck into stripping the engine to see how it looked inside! Also I have seen people putting Datsun 6 cylinder blocks on these types of stands. They have a decent load rating (450kg max load)
Yes, it was enjoyable to strip the engine down! Makes a change from all the rust let me tell you! And yes, for this one, but the Disaster Datsun on the other hand is a whole new beast
Hi Ryan well that made a pleasant change for us & you, don’t think that engine has had a lot essential maintenance IE oil& filter changes or antifreeze/ coolant additive etc , well done another great video hope you remember where everything goes 🤣😂👍( only joking ) .
I'm afraid you cannot assume that from an 1980's engine. An engine from that age with the oil changed twice a year would look like that as the oil quality in those days were poor. An engine from 15 years ago would look cleaner inside as the oils were better at cleaning the engine internal. The main reason for the rust inside the cooling system was that the pre 2000 antifreeze had anti corrosion chemicals that only lasted a few years. The car had not been stated for 15 years some 2 years ago. When it started after some normal recommissioning. I would say after whet we seen in the fourth Suzuki video that it had been looked after engine wise when it was a running vehicle.
It did make a nice change! I enjoyed getting stuck into it and stripping it down, it was just a case of taking my time and looking how things came off. But it was very simple and I'm happy how it turned out. It only took just over 2 hours to do the full strip. And yes, its always a worry as it is easy to take something apart, but a lot more difficult to put it all back together! I made sure I put all the bolts back into their holes when i stripped anything so I at least know where the bolts go :) Nothing words than a box full of bolts and no idea where they go!
@@yorkshirecarrestoration The cam belt did look reasonably new in the video so I think the car had some maintenance even though it didn't look it. Of course it's hard to tell from a video.
Hi guys excellent vlog, really enjoyed it guys, thank you 👍👌 where are you based in Yorkshire? I HAVE A MERCEDES 280SE 1968, owned it from 1997, looking to restore engine and body

@@yorkshirecarrestoration Hell, yeah ! The suspension is kinda alright for that. You probably want to do something about the diffs, or you won't get very far 😅

Thanks for the video. Why on earth did you not clean the worst of the muck off the outside of the engine before starting to dismantle it ?
I was in too much of a rush that day. I started dismantling it at 18:00 the day before the video was released
Is this "Car Mechanic Simulator" at maximum graphics settings?

i picked up a gift for the garage last week. iv just got to get it back to looking like it should and ill be over with it
oh that sounds intriguing :)
Great video. Try to grab a factory service manual. It goes down to the last bolt on the engine, transmission and suspension.
Thank you!! Yes we do need one, also for torque settings too.
Tighten it until it shears, then back it off one flat.
If you can get 800bhp out of a 800cc please let me know 🙂
Great work as usual 👍
I will give it a go!
so... a fully ballanced 50thou over bore with forged pistons running NOS ? or a quick re fresh then back in the car
Twin turbo with 8 inch exhaust and racing slicks. Or maybe just a nice clean and put back together haha!
Oh no! Not even a spot of rust or welding in a plate.... we can't have that😁🤣😂. Ok, we will have to settle for one broken bolt👏👏
Haha, no rust or welding, no disasters, but 1 single broken bolt, it didn't want me to strip it without a fight!!! haha

Hi Ryan,
Nice video, but why do you work so close to the newly painted car where a slip of a hammer could put a dent in it?
I think it may have missed a few oil changes mate
Yeah probably :p
Did this car ever get finished???
That'd go well with a G13B Swift GTi engine in it....
The F10 is an easier swap, done probably at least 12 by now.

This makes no sense; a very short wheelbase and a extreme small lightweight body: Even 160hp makes this thing undriveable, 800 is nuts.
We can put slicks on and a big tail on the back to stop the front coming up. Super stiff suspension and upgraded bars/ links.
I used to drive a Jimny back in the 90's. Good luck with anything more than 8 bhp in one 😂
