  • 2007 nissan pathfinder does not start, pulled codes, found p0717, trans circuit a signal, and u1000, network com circuit, codes. Blown tcm fuse, coolant mixed with transmission fluid. Fried tcm...
    UPDATE I made this video before the NISSAN TSB was issued to my software. The real issue was defective radiator/trans coolers. Bypass the radiator and install an external trans cooler to avoid this problem. You might get lucky if you flush out all the old coolant with simple green and the old atf several times to eliminate the water shorting the tcm. but more than likely you will need to replace the tcm or possibly replace the transmission. sorry for the confusion, as i didnt see the tsb prior to this, and I diagnosed it on my own without outside prior experience for this case. I did see similar failures due to neglected, rusted or corroded cooling systems before with bmw, and gm vehicles ect... in the past. thank you for watching*

    Folks it’s a known issue of that particular transmission made by nissan.. once trans is replace, i recommend ya’ll to bypass the radiator and install an external cooler for the trans.. that way you dont worry about it happening ever again.. it’s a good transmission, it’s just a bad radiator design by nissan. Trans fluid and coolant mixes up and when that happen it ruins the tcm module inside the transmission.

    That actually happens if you change the coolant or not, changing your coolant has nothing to do with it. The poor design of the transmission cooler is the actual reason, which has absolutely nothing to do with changing our coolant. I am dealing with this problem now, and all maintenance was done at the stealership. So your theory of "this is what happens when you do not change your coolant" is like Swiss cheese.

      i work on all makes and models. ive seen this happen with corrosion in vw, porsche, audi, bmw, toyota, pontiac, buick, etc. first time on a nissan. so i assumed it was from previous experience. apparently not. but oh well. video is already published

      I give you props for acknowledging the statement from George, which is correct. This issue with Pathfinders and Xterras plagues soo many owners. The easiest solution is to detect it early and bypass the tran fluid to water circuit. The trucks already have a independent air to liquid cooler for the tranny. The cooler is used primarily to help the transmission get up to operating temp.

    Hey, I think your right and i agree. But at the same time, I know almost every other car out there has problems big and small. In hindsight I have taken measures with my own personal cars to prevent issues. I find major problems others are having and keep it from happening, or at least try my best. There are thousands of people dealing with this, and even more dealing with blown motors from direct injection engines. BMW, Vw, Audi, ford, Mazda, Lexus, all have major issues causing engine and trans failures. Many not covered because past warranty. If I owned a nissan with this issue and it blew on me i would buy a used trans, do the external cooler mod and call it a day. Of course keep an eye on recalls but what can u do....? Learn and don't make same mistake and hope for the best. Thanks for the comments!

    that happened to me today. My truck suddenly stopped in the middle of me driving it. Then it started again after a few attempts and all my dash lights started flickering. The forums for Titans helped me solve my problem. I went to Nissan and bought the ECM relay replacement fuse. In my case it was colored green and second from left relay. Come to find out that a while back there was a recall and ECM relay is the common culprit of said symptoms. Took me 5 minutes to install and solved my problem at least for now.

    Nissan has a recall on thier froniter, pathfinders etc. The radiator mixes in with tranny fluid at one point. It does'nt always happens but when it does it is expensive fix. What I did to my frontier was unplug tranny cooler lines that run to radiator and bypass them to a air cooler that is already installed in front of your vehicle. Looks like a radiator only smaller and holds no water. Thus that is why it is called air cooler. Have heard many stories of nissan owners try to have dealership pay for fix but dealership says it is not thier fault or some bull like that. Thanks for the video!

    From all I've read, this has little or nothing to do with changing your coolant. One of the two transmission coolers runs through the bottom of the radiator and is prone to leaking. THAT allows transmission oil to mix with coolant and vice-versa. It is a factory defect. It can be avoided by bypassing the internal transmission cooler with a simple hose swap.

    Feb20,2018. Had a 2008 pathfinder hauled in shop from out of State auction. No crank. No communication. Previous mechanic from GA had severely molested fuse box,ecm, ignition wires under dash. After repairing all wiring, jumping starter over by screwdriver 🤣, it would not crank. Had to jump the ignition relay (bottom 2 terminals) then it would crank by key but not run. I did check radiator and it was milky. (Thanks to this video!!!)Who knew to check this for a tcm failure to cause no communication to ecm, a solid dash light immobilizer condition. I greatly appreciate this video, I was thinking ecm was root of the problem and apparently previous GA mechanic did too, I could only imagine how many hours spent on this turd. Still not sure I have correct key, only 1 and it is USA(walmart key?), not Nissan. All other keys and fob are mia.

  • @subtledriver
    @subtledriver  11 лет назад +1

    if your money is tight you can try this (only if your transmission still works when you install a fuse), bypass the radiator and run only to external cooler, try drain and fill with new filter a couple times. and install new fuse, clear codes in transmission. if that doesn't work, install used, or rebuilt trans. it has to get reflashed by dealer or shop with good scanner. hardest part is getting all the oil out of the coolant!

  • @Alex-ti3uf

    I am just wondering what’s the connection for not changing coolant then mix with transmission fluid. The reason is the the transmission cooler system is connected to the radiator for cooling purposes. Somehow the transmission cooler get hole then the coolant get into the transmission line. Change the coolant or not, if the Transmission cooler get hole, then still coolant and. Fluid can mix together.

    good video first off . We have a 2014 nissan sentra that came in with a no start issue with new battery and full charge , im new to nissans tech and mostly work on diesels , what we are seeing is the car is not responding to the ignition switch/key , put the key in it chimes but nothing else happens when switch is turned on all directions , no dash /cluster power up , nothing happens other than the chime saying the key is in ignition. headlamps work, door locks work, but nothing else like the key is not being used at all ? scanned with multiple scan tools , Matco Maxme , and others , coming back with nothing other than a B210B code ? there is little to no info on Nissans doing this , we replaced the ignition switch with no change still acting as it the key is not being used , its a regular style key not push button start and we have both keys from factory . trying to help this custmer get back on the road but we are stuck . anyone seen a issue like this on 2014 Sentras or any latermodel nissans ? again new battery with 13v , put key in ignition and turn with nothing happening like no one is trying to start the car ? Thanks for any help in advance guys !

    Great video, very helpful (yes, I read the comments and it's a known defect in Nissans). I came here because my 2009 KIa Sedona is experiencing the exact same symptoms as you described (and as others described in the comments; no crank, no start... jumped car to live with starter relay, transmission stuck in 3rd), but I pulled the code P0890. I checked all fuses with multimeter and they are all OK.

    Im a nissan tech. I have 2007 xterra. This is the funny part. The problem existed as a no start. Turned the key on no SES light no door open light, no wiper operation other than rear, headlights stays on, cooling fan on, and no key chime from instrument cluster. Used Consult scanner no bcm shows up U1000, pcm back up code cant remember code. Check everything, started unplugging the ABS, TCM AND ECM. Chimeing came back on. Plugged ECM back in and flipped key SES AND ETC SHOW BACK UP. RECONNECTED ABS AND LAST THE TCM. TCM had caused the CAN system to shut down do to a shortage in the transmission valve body. Left the TCM unplugged jumped the starter circuits car started and ran. This a future tips just incase u run into a problem like that.

      I would say make sure th terminals on the battery +and- is not corroded badly and no blown fuses on that cable. If it was your security system it would show up a red light on solid with a key in it, on the dash. If would either not start at all or just turn over and not fire off like it show with the theft system.

      Hey help. I have a 07 pathfinder and had issues with it recently. One night my girl was driving it to work & she said it felt like it was loss of power but over working itself. Later that day when she got back into the car, it wouldn't start. After looking around I found that the tcm fuse blew and would blow every time I would try to start it and then run in limp mode I believe. Anyways, I looked around some more and assumed it to be the "valve body" At this point it's already at the Nissan dealer get looked over. They wanted to try and get me for a new tranny($7k) after looking around some more I was still hooked on it being the valve body and suggested that they change that. Anyways, they said they changed and charged me 2100.00 for new valve body, pan gasket and atf. When I got home I looked where the valve body would go and it didn't appear to have been touched in that area. My question is, could they fix that fuse popping issue with out replacing the valve body?

    The problem here is the radiator is busted on the transmission cooler coil inside the radiator causing the coolant to get into the transmission oil. This is a factory defect and there is a lawsuit ABOUT this issue, you can Google defective radiator Nissan and read about this issue. It happened go me, and what I did to fix it was, get an after market radiator from auto zone, and then I flushed the transmission with clean fluid , by leaving the return hose off the radiator and catching the fluid in an separate container I started the engine and as the transmission pump pumped the old oil out I continued to pour new oil in until the oil coming out was clear, then I had my help go thru the gears as I continued to pour in New oil until the transmission oil was coming out clear, now that the transmission is flushed, I the removed the valve body out and completely dismantled it, and cleaned it wd40. I also dismantled the computer and cleaned it with wd40, the computer is the flat looking black box that is on the valve body, I also checked the solenoids for proper continuity ad change 2 of them, can't buy them new, had to go to a transmission shop and the man sold me some old ones. Put it all back together and it worked fine.

    HELP!! I have a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder and Ive had the TCM replaced twiced. The first time in late december 2014 and again October 2015; there was a warranty on the tcm. And now my nissan has died again; Im assuming from the same thing based on the same symptoms that happened the last two times, before it stopped working. I did noticed my coolant was less than normal and I noticed moisture or a leak under the radiator. Im at a lost on what to do. Ive paid just under $2000 for repairs and im still owe $11,000 (loan) on this vehicle. Im considering voluntary repo. I cant trade it in; the value about $2000. Would replacing the radiator help? • @chrisstone42
      @chrisstone42 4 года назад

      @@TallVictorandmrgrimm1211 depending on the year of your truck it may not be a concern for you. If your truck was made after 2010, this problem was already fixed. If it was made before then the recommended fix is to replace the radiator. You can also simply swap a few of the lines around so that the transmission fluid no longer runs through the radiator and only through the separate transmission cooler. Bypassing the radiator will cause your transmission to take longer to warm up as the radiator actually helps to warm the transmission from cold since the engine coolant heats up faster and it will also reduce the overall cooling capability so it may not be ideal especially if you live in a cold climate and/or tow with your truck. If you have a truck from before 2010 and can't replace the radiator right away, I would recommend doing the bypass at least temporarily until you can replace the radiator. You can find more information on how to bypass the radiator if you search "Nissan Frontier bypass". This is the same for the Nissan Frontier, Xterra, Pathfinder, and I believe also applies to the Titan and Armada. The affected years may be different for different models.

Took it back and mechanic kept it for 3 weeks got it back and he said it was a sensor and the main computer. Got it back 2 weeks ago and it drove great for 4 days. One morning while warming it up I drove about 2 miles noticed car was overheating so I pulled over to gas station and left car on and added water. Radiator kept shooting water out so I turned off car and called 3 AAA. NEXT DAY CAR WILL NOT START OR CRANK. SO I CHANGED STARTER AND BOUGHT NEW BATTERY AND REPLACED SPARK PLUGS BECAUSE WHEN CHECKING SPARK PLUGS THEY WERE FLOODED WITH OIL. AFTER REPLACING ALL THESE PARTS THE CAR STILL WILL NOT START BUT IT CRANKS AND THE CRANK STAYS STUCK. A MECHANIC CAME BYE AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO COMPRESSION. THAT IT WAS MY ENGINE BLOCK. WHAT DO YOU THINK

    I just did the Mod on an 06 that only had 37k miles. Thanks God the coolant didn't have the SMOD "Strawberry Milkshake Of Death"
    The problem isn't the Coolant or any coolant for that matter. The problem is Corporations being Cheap and wanting to use the same Radiator to Kool the Engine and Tranny, Once something goes wrong internally of the Radiator, like a Crack and Transmission Fluid and Coolant Mix, that's where the problem lies.
    Car Manufactures know this can happen, but they know it will most likely happen after it's out of warranty. That's pretty shady on their part, because they are purposely knowingly allowing this to happen down the road instead of avoiding it with a Sperate Transmission Cooler 🤷🏻‍♂️
    Luckily for me, I used the additional transmission cooler the Frontier has, which as made for when towing and extra cooler to keep the towing heat down.
    I don't tow anything big or for long periods. if I do, I'll be sure to get a Separate cooler from the one already on the Nissan Frontier. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Hey so I had that milky fluid a couple months ago I fixed the issue now 2 months later the car won't start. Saw your video and I have the same fuse burned. I changed the fuse and it started, Should i change the TCM now? how much work is involved in that?

    • @subtledriver
      @subtledriver  7 лет назад

      the module is shorted or damaged internally from the h20 contamination. it is unlikely you will be able to clear all the coolant out of the transmission system. but if you can, you might get lucky. (fuse only) but 90% of the time, the damage is enough to cause permanent damage to the module, and clog up the trans badly.

    Q? I got a 2008 nissan xtrra. It has code u1000. And i have the snapon solus ultra. I can not communicate with the engine. The car cranks fine but will not start. It came in for a corroded battery terminal. I replaced it with oem terminal and new battery installed. All the fuses are good. Also when cranking all the lights on the dash stay on. Except the MIL.
    The MIL will not come on and no communications with the ECM. I checked the powers and grounds that goes in to the ecm. They are all good. Trans is good. Coolant is good. Not like what your showing here on the video. I also scaned all the modules and they all have the code u1000.
    Do u have any clue what it can be or have u seen some thing like this.

    • @air1forcegrant1
      @air1forcegrant1 4 года назад +1

      Yes the IPDM is the white box holding all the fuses . Pretty much controls all the signals sent to ecm itself . The ipdm/ ecm relay is the TSB relay, and its the second relay on the bottom going left to right. Usually the main cause . Or the starter relay which is the the top left relay. Top right relay is your ignition which also has an additional 10amp fuse under the smaller fuse box just before that box. Those are the main ones to really ever have to focus on ever , or its pretty much getting another Ipdm/ bcm which are quite pricy still , but not the 1,100 they used to be. Just be sure to match the part number that is on the one you have .

    It's not from not changing coolant it's from a radiator defect allowing cooling into transmission

  • @rzander01
    @rzander01 7 лет назад +2

    With all due respect, this issue has NOTHING to do with changing the coolant regularly. It's a well known defect in the radiator that Nissan has issued a recall for, but unfortunately capped it at 100,000 miles, so a lot of people have had to spend thousands of dollars fixing an issue that was caused by Nissan. The radiator's transmission fluid cooling lines separates and allows coolant to seep into transmission fluid, and since the control unit and many of the electronics are inside the transmission, they are ruined. It's a really poor design putting those things inside the transmission as well.

    • @subtledriver
      @subtledriver  7 лет назад

      rzander01 thanks for the comment brotha, I did discover this before it was a recall issue or a tsb. please read my description above. thank you again for clearing this up, but now that everyone can Google it (I didn't have that option since it wasn't widely known yet when I made this) I based it off my previous transmission failure experience from a half dozen other manufacturers. usually it involved lack of coolant changes or just water. again thank you!

    There is no recall on the radiator or or the transmission it is a known fact that the cooler inside the radiator will crack and mix with the transmission fluid has nothing to do with not changing your coolant that's a pretty lame way to sell coolant service. The cheapest solution before this happens is to install an external oil cooler

Wrong about what caused it, how about telling the people the facts like how it is due to a faulty radiator, and that Nissan did a quiet recall while letting all of their dealerships keep selling them. Nissan wasn't the only company at fault considering multiple companies used similar radiators, but they took care of the problem!!!!
