  • In this video I show you how to replace the T.C.M. in your Nissan. The transmission cooler/ Radiator had failed in this PathFinder mixing antifreeze with the transmission fluid.(s.m.o.d.) The dealer said that its not covered under a recall, and the entire transmission must be replaced for around $5000. We shall see if this transmission can be saved. If you find this video helpful, subscribe. I put out a repair video every week.Thanks for watching.

    Insta-subscriber here. The quality of this video is top notch. You labeling and differentiating the bolts by location and size made this job so much easier. I did the temp-fix by soldering the broken contact on the front brake solenoid of the TCM, with some copper wire in there for extra strength, and my neighbor's Nissan Titan is back on the road, no parts required.
    Thank you for taking the time to make this video and to include all this valuable data. Pan torque spec is 72 in-lbs. I didn't torque anything else, just snugged it up nicely. Took almost 8 quarts of Valvoline Import ATF to refill it when I was done.

    Excellent video, i had the dreaded wont crank and cross contamination issue on my 2008 pathfinder with 181k miles. I replaced the radiator, bypassed the transmission cooler lines to the new radiator. Now I dropped the valve body out and saw I have a Hitachi TCM. This seems to be a little better designed compared to the Bosch. I found black marks between two of the lines in the TCM which I assume are 12 and gnd. I cleaned out the short material and put gasket sealer in the area to isolate for future issues. I am about to re-install and see if it all worked. Hope the fuse does not blow again. This is the best video capture of a mechanical job I have seen. The detail and especially the photos were excellent. But it needs to be higher in the RUclips tag list when I searched for Re5
    r05a. Would have save me a good bit of time yesterday... But my issue is more convoluted since the boy that removed the valve body, removed most every bolt and we had to make a few guesses as to where they went. But your run through was great. I may have to take it back out as the turbo sensor had overheated and burnt/crusted on top and sent it to Limp mode with no reverse. Testing of the TCM seems to show no problems. So I have to install it to test it.

    Hey man amazing video THANK U SO MUCH!! I have a 07 frontier I'm pretty sure it's the TCM. When yours went out what did it do was it a no crank no start when you turn the key over?

    • @GrimRepair
      @GrimRepair  4 года назад +1

      It was a crank no start. I had a communication error code and was unable to pull tcm codes the tcm fuse would blow every time I tried to start it. I had coolant contamination from a few weeks before, I had replaced the radiator and flushed the tranny, but I must not have gotten all the coolant out. The coolant causes the tcm to short out and blow the fuse.

  • @spemer12
    @spemer12 2 года назад +1

    Great tutorial! I have a 2011 frontier (which shouldn't have the coolant contamination problem) which I believe uses the same part. The transmission was slipping badly and it was kicking out a code related to the tcm, P1774. For some reason the shop I took it to recommended that I replace the transmission rather than just the tcm because it requires taking apart the transmission and can be "risky?" Watching you do it, I can see that's clearly not the case and that the valve body comes off super easy from the transmission. My question I guess is whether there's a risk or downside to replacing just the computer, and whether I should instead replace the whole valve body, with a new tcm, considering the whole body is not super expensive and it's possible there is some other bad contact in the valve body that is causing my problem. (Sorry, not super mechanically inclined so I hope this makes sense) Thanks again for the video!

    • @GrimRepair
      @GrimRepair  2 года назад +2

      Thanks. There is risk in everything, if you have chunks of metal in your transmission pan I would be worried that what ever is causing that might contaminate the new valve body. Some super fine flakes are normal. If everything looks normal I would just change the tcm. Hard to say anything for sure without seeing the car. I can see a lot of shops not wanting to just change a tcm because if anything goes wrong in the future with your (probably high milage) transmission it would be easy to blame them. They want your car fixed and not coming back in for warrenty work.

    • @GrimRepair
      @GrimRepair  5 месяцев назад

      @tomaszkus3652 it means your transmission cooler inside the radiator has failed and is killing your transmission. If it is the original radiator and hasn't failed. you should replace the radiator anyway, because it will go bad and ruin your tcm, nissan may replace your radiator for you under a recall. Your transmission fluid should be red and oily, not frothy, watery, or sticky. Your antifreeze should look like antifreeze. There are many different colors it could be, hard to say who may have put in what over the years. If you aren't familiar with how uncontaminated antifreeze should look, you may want to have someone who is look at it.

    Hey there - I have 08 pathfinder rwd, I changed the radiator when I got the truck prior to issues after reading about it. The transmission works fine going forward, shifts up and down no issues, the problem is now that the reverse doesn't engage unless I shift back and forth between park and neutral. There is no slippage in the transmission, it pulls strong but simply stopped engaging reverse consistently, is this a shift solenoid issue? Thanks

Turn the car off/on, drivers normal. Get error codes P0850 Park/Neutral switch input & U0101 Lost Communication with TCM. No one at Nissan can verify where the PNS input is located. At 8:25 the part that attaches to the green plug from the valve body is called an a/t assembly harness connector. It is attached to the back of the transmission on an '06 2WD and kept in place with a snap ring. Remove the snap ring and the wiring plug on top of the connector. The connector is designed to be pushed in so you can remove the valve body - I needed the hook end of a crowbar and positioned it against the transmission housing while pushing down on the connector to pop it out. The connector has ten pins on each side - make sure they are straight and clean before connecting the green plug from the valve body back to it. (It'll throw a P720 code if one of the pins is flattened down). There's also a metal tab that supports the connector (it may be pushed down on the valve body) - carefully straighten it out and sit the long end of the connector on top of it. Lube the o-ring on the connector before pushing it back into place (may need a screwdriver to help), then secure it with the snap ring. The valve body can be tightened down after that.

    Hello Grim, I'm watching your video from France because I have an automatic transmission problem on my Nissan Pathfinder 2005 2,5l 174cv, in fact the gearbox starts in 2nd gear so it's almost impossible to move forward without making a noise, it's not possible. I move forward in my research and I notice a strange liquid in the coolant reservoir, I also think that the engine radiator is dead and the gearbox oil has mixed with the coolant.
