    Insta-subscriber here. The quality of this video is top notch. You labeling and differentiating the bolts by location and size made this job so much easier. I did the temp-fix by soldering the broken contact on the front brake solenoid of the TCM, with some copper wire in there for extra strength, and my neighbor's Nissan Titan is back on the road, no parts required.
    Thank you for taking the time to make this video and to include all this valuable data. Pan torque spec is 72 in-lbs. I didn't torque anything else, just snugged it up nicely. Took almost 8 quarts of Valvoline Import ATF to refill it when I was done.

    At 8:25 the part that attaches to the green plug from the valve body is called an a/t assembly harness connector. It is attached to the back of the transmission on an '06 2WD and kept in place with a snap ring. Remove the snap ring and the wiring plug on top of the connector. The connector is designed to be pushed in so you can remove the valve body - I needed the hook end of a crowbar and positioned it against the transmission housing while pushing down on the connector to pop it out. The connector has ten pins on each side - make sure they are straight and clean before connecting the green plug from the valve body back to it. (It'll throw a P720 code if one of the pins is flattened down). There's also a metal tab that supports the connector (it may be pushed down on the valve body) - carefully straighten it out and sit the long end of the connector on top of it. Lube the o-ring on the connector before pushing it back into place (may need a screwdriver to help), then secure it with the snap ring. The valve body can be tightened down after that.

    This is the best video capture of a mechanical job I have seen. The detail and especially the photos were excellent. But it needs to be higher in the RUclips tag list when I searched for Re5
    r05a. Would have save me a good bit of time yesterday... But my issue is more convoluted since the boy that removed the valve body, removed most every bolt and we had to make a few guesses as to where they went. But your run through was great. I may have to take it back out as the turbo sensor had overheated and burnt/crusted on top and sent it to Limp mode with no reverse. Testing of the TCM seems to show no problems. So I have to install it to test it.

      @tomaszkus3652 it means your transmission cooler inside the radiator has failed and is killing your transmission. If it is the original radiator and hasn't failed. you should replace the radiator anyway, because it will go bad and ruin your tcm, nissan may replace your radiator for you under a recall. Your transmission fluid should be red and oily, not frothy, watery, or sticky. Your antifreeze should look like antifreeze. There are many different colors it could be, hard to say who may have put in what over the years. If you aren't familiar with how uncontaminated antifreeze should look, you may want to have someone who is look at it.

      From the factory, there is one built into the radiator and an other separate from the radiator. If you add another and don't use the one that is built into the radiator, you eliminate the possibility of coolant contaminating the transmission fluid. If you live in a cold climate, I don't recommend doing that, but make sure you use a high quality radiator.

    Great tutorial! I have a 2011 frontier (which shouldn't have the coolant contamination problem) which I believe uses the same part. The transmission was slipping badly and it was kicking out a code related to the tcm, P1774. For some reason the shop I took it to recommended that I replace the transmission rather than just the tcm because it requires taking apart the transmission and can be "risky?" Watching you do it, I can see that's clearly not the case and that the valve body comes off super easy from the transmission. My question I guess is whether there's a risk or downside to replacing just the computer, and whether I should instead replace the whole valve body, with a new tcm, considering the whole body is not super expensive and it's possible there is some other bad contact in the valve body that is causing my problem. (Sorry, not super mechanically inclined so I hope this makes sense) Thanks again for the video!

    • @GrimRepair
      @GrimRepair  3 года назад +2

      Thanks. There is risk in everything, if you have chunks of metal in your transmission pan I would be worried that what ever is causing that might contaminate the new valve body. Some super fine flakes are normal. If everything looks normal I would just change the tcm. Hard to say anything for sure without seeing the car. I can see a lot of shops not wanting to just change a tcm because if anything goes wrong in the future with your (probably high milage) transmission it would be easy to blame them. They want your car fixed and not coming back in for warrenty work.

    Hello Grim, I'm watching your video from France because I have an automatic transmission problem on my Nissan Pathfinder 2005 2,5l 174cv, in fact the gearbox starts in 2nd gear so it's almost impossible to move forward without making a noise, it's not possible. I move forward in my research and I notice a strange liquid in the coolant reservoir, I also think that the engine radiator is dead and the gearbox oil has mixed with the coolant. So I think it's the TCM that's messing up and not the box. Thank you for your video and if anyone has an idea about my problem, I would be very happy to read your comments.

But i have no check engine light, i replaced the transmission oil yesterday but nothing changed. I had the coolant contamination 4 years ago and i replaced the radiator and flushed the system 4 times and i drove around 90.000 km since without any problem..do you think bying the part i mentionned above like you did will solve the problem or its better for me to add some money and replace all the transmission with a used one? Awesome video! I have a 2006 4WD pathfinder that runs fine, other than occasionally slipping gears and shudders going into 2nd or if I come to a rolling stop then hit the gas again, it will either hesitate or shudder (whole car shakes like I'm going through seriously uneven surface), then it catches gear and will shift fine the rest of the gears. It is pretty intermittent but it happens almost every time I get behind the wheel. I noticed that slip/shudder is worse when I'm a bit heavy on the accelerator vs accelerating slowly and smoothly. Any idea what that could be? Changed ATF and filter 3 months ago and it wasn't bad at all, just starting to turn a little dark. I also switched to aluminum radiator. I was lucky that my fluids had not mixed up that point. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

      @@CUBICHI1985 So have you recently checked the codes to make sure no new one have come up? Does your scanner pull transmission/ abs codes? Inside the tcm there are metal rods that sometimes break and they can bounce around causing intermittent shift problems, but it should give you a transmission code, it's separate from the engine codes in the scanners menus.

      @@GrimRepairYou are absolutely right, I should have it scanned (since it's been a good 4-6mo since I last did). Since I don't work on cars myself that often I haven't thought to spend any real money to purchase one. Seeing as how most shops/mechanics may or may not always be very forthcoming/honest, I tend to gravitate towards doing things myself when I have the time and IF it is something I feel comfortable undertaking myself (though I am handy and not afraid to turn wrenches, I am not a mechanic and my knowledge of cars is rather limited). With that said I prob SHOULD invest in a good scan tool (one that can read transmission codes as well).. I just don't want to spend too much on something that I may only end up using very sparingly. Do you have any recommendations?

      @CUBICHI1985 5 лет назад

      @@GrimRepair And yes, I've watched several videos outlining just that procedure of removing the TCM and opening and checking the leads in the circuits. I'll start with a scan first and see if I can narrow it down with the codes it comes back with. Gotta buy a decent, yet inexpensive scan tool first with those capabilities. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for good scan tools. Preferably one that reads abs, trans, and also any turbo related items (as my wife's 2013 Nissan Juke is also starting to 'act up'). Thanks again for all the good info and prompt replies man!!👍🙋‍♂️ really appreciate your time and dedication

    I did this and at the end it won’t go into gear at all so I take the drain bolt out to take it all back apart and only like half a quart came out but I put 4 in (showed on dipstick tho just wanted it to get warm). I can’t seem to find an accurate number or way to fill and bleed

    • @GrimRepair

      @@slothified806 did you drain the torque converter? I'm not sure how to help you with your fluid level issue, it's not making much sense, there are fluid capacities online, and dipsticks have been effective for 100 years. If only half a quart is coming out it sounds like it's low, but I'm not there to see every variable, is it on flat ground is it leaking, or going into the transfer case, or the cooler? Is your radiator full of coolant? When you move the shifter does it register on your dash that it's changing gears? Some have reported that they needed to have the TCM programmed.

    I have a 2012 Nissan pathfinder, my transmission started doing this weird thing while driving it throws itself into a neutral state or stalls to get into 1st gear, lots of torque converter spinning. Turn the car off/on, drivers normal. Get error codes P0850 Park/Neutral switch input & U0101 Lost Communication with TCM. No one at Nissan can verify where the PNS input is located. Also the pathfinder can be turned on in P, R,N or D... I wondering if it's the whole valve body now? Not sure, but your video has now lead me to a different road.

      @sudharsonbalakrishanan721 I'm not completely sure what a bcas is, and I'm not sure which long serial number or 5 digit you're asking about either. I would think your vin number would be enough info to get you the right part. The Rouge is way different from a pathfinder though.

    I recently just bought a 2007 Nissan exterra from a buddy who bought it brand new. Anyway he was having problems with the fuse kept popping so he replaced the TCM based on what he was told. After he replaced it the starter whent out with in the week. I ended up buying it from him and replaced starter and it wouldn’t start unless it set a couple days then it would start but once you shut it off it wouldn’t start for a couple days… and this kept repeating, so I took it to a mechanic who said it needed a fuse block but he said he could just install a push button and it would save me a lot of money so I said do it. Now it starts no problem with the push button start but the transmission isn’t wanting to shift unless you feather the throttle or it will rev up and not go into gear which is all giving clues going back to the TCM. Am I missing something??? TIA for any help
