I just today met you guys. My tent will be arriving today. Your video will make it much easier to install. I’ll install on my Nissan Frontier. We’ll see how it goes
That tent is sooooo awesome!! I want a roof top tent so bad, I gotta get the trailer built out first. I like that they have a reasonably priced 4 person tent too. I need a big one to fit the whole family, but their 4 person one is huge, I think it will work perfectly for us!! Very cool!
Great videos like always, I am excited that we will meet you today Saturday in park. OVS is my favorite brand since I went to several venues and seen it in person. I understand you entertain us with careful approach to get two people up there but it’s rated for 2 easy. Also the bottom of your tent is better quality than other brands including ARB😐. I hope you are attending Overland expo west 2021
Hi guys, just wondering if there has been any issues with the RTT mounted into the gutter mounted roof rack? I have the one touch retractable roof and everybody I have spoke to has told me that the gutter mounts on all jeeps are not good enough to support a rack with a RTT? Seems it’s worked out week for you, so just wondering if you have had any issues. Thanks Kevin
Let us know if you have cracks appear from the added weight of the tent on the drip rails. I have seen others that have had problems with that. Not trying to sound like a downer just curious.
Agreed. Those drip rails are NOT intended to carry more than 100lbs. They need a chassis mounted roof rack for a tent. I love this channel. I’d hate for these to nice folks to break their roof. Which will absolutely happen on this setup.
@@Garagecouple that’s good. Keep an eye on the rails. Jeep rates the drip rails for 150lbs max. Look for fine cracks in the paint as that’s a sign of flex. That composite will just snap off when it goes. No warning.
Absolutely awesome! I have been a subscriber for a while now waiting for the rock crawling and overlanding trips. It looks like you're almost ready to go out and hit the trails! I can't wait for your camping trip video.
do you always have to re-enforce the jeep top from inside for RTT? I understand the jeep hardtop doesn't have the structural integrity to hold more than 200lb safely.
We haven't had to. We're probably closer to 500 pounds and haven't had any issues. It's 200 pounds dynamic capacity not static. Do so at your own risk!
How wind resistant do you guys think this is when set up. Here in southern Nevada we get some strong desert winds. I am kinda worried that this would become a kite in the middle of the night!
I have been looking for a roof rack forever to get a good, decent price and high-capacity load. I am looking to get one for around $700 with a 400-pound load capacity. I don't know how that rack is holding that roof rack on top of your Jeep. I am confused about whether it's a good rack. I want one.
That rack is rated for 150lb.. have u had any issues after using the tent for the last few years? I went and bought a 150lb rated rack too but I want a tent now, lol. Just wondering if it would hold body weight on top!
Just found your channel!! I am searching madly for a RTT, this was an awesome video. After a year, can. you tell me what you think about this tent? Do you still recommend?
Quick question...did you do anything to reinforce your roof? We have been wanting to add a tent but everything we have read says the roof weight capacity is 150 so my husband put in a full rack system first. Is it not necessary? Please let me know
@@Garagecouple can you give an update on how this set up has held up? I just got a tent and was considering putting it directly on a roof rack as you did
I'm looking at doing a rooftop tent. But every form and discussion says your not supposed to use the gutters as they can't support the static weight or the dynamic weight. Have you had any problems with your setup?
Actually i have to subscribe i like your projects, you have a very detailed explanation about fixing things, i greatly appreciate and happy to see the way you have installed this tent. Hope to order mine and confidently install it.
@@Garagecouple thanks how is the effectiveness of this tent during rain? ? Are you still using it? Seems like on other videos you have removed it from your car.
Make sure you center the RTT otherwise it will throw you off in high winds wile driving. Also open in them bars a bit more to distribute the weight. But nice RTT 🤙
Hey guys, just a suggestion but it may be worth considering changing the bolts that clamp the roof rack to the roof, from quick release to regular bolts (or security ones). Currently it only requires undoing those 4 handles and the whole tent and rack can be lifted off and stolen!
That rack is really cool! I've never had one (couldn't fit in the garage!) but my father had one that bolts on the windshield hinge and behind the taillights. I've always kind of wanted a roof top tent, but I would most likely fall out (and I'd feel like Greg, haha)! Curious to see what the long term impressions are of both the tent and rack.
what up guys, just landed and subscribed to your channel. My wife and I might make it on the 8th since we live near by. Do you guys allow other vehicles besides jeep. We pre ordered a bronco and wanted to join you guys.
Great video watching Greg get in the tent was so funny great video guys really enjoy watching you guys... always fun ... keep it up. Safe camping guys.
Top Heavy tents are heavy and expensive, also expensive to have on your vehicle, one woman said she lost 5 mpg with that crap on her roof, get a Gazelle ground tent sets up in 90 seconds, holds you camp site while you explore in your vehicle $350
So funny 😁 so happy till the roof rails brake off the sides of the roof 😢 they will not hold the weight of the tent and two people but you newbies wll find out the hard way for not looking in to better. Save $ now you think spend a lot of $$$$ later when it brakes the rails off big $$$$

Hey I have a question - did the weight of the tent and two persons damage the rain gutters at all? I am hesitant because of the fear. Thanks!
Nope! Has not yet but it's definitely possible and your mileage with it may vary
@@Garagecouple thanks for your kind reply!
Of course! Cheers
@@Garagecouplethat’s good to know. I plan on purchasing a RTT soon and mounting it the same way on my JKU. Thanks for the info.

No issues so far after 2 full adult men used it for 1 camping weekend!
It has been holding up perfectly!
That’s good I am looking at getting something along the lines of this but wanted some real world users to show me it works.

Awesome video, I am looking for a lower cost option to mount 90 pound RTT. I am 220,...these racks still holding up ok, even off road conditions?
I enjoy this channel, you have great spunk and energy. Thank You.
Aww thank you for the support!!
I have noted that this rooftop tent doesnt have tight rope that can tight its cover. When driving high speed is this cover not blown away by wind?
Nope! Held in with heavy duty velcro
Awesome tent. You guys are hilarious to watch. Great couple and great jeeps. Keep posting
Thank you for the kind words! Cheers!
Dream of mine is to own one in the future, so far looks dire they are expensive! hope to see you guys soon!

Very wind resistant. Used it camping and stood against 30mpg wind no issue

tent is nice, but not sure if the rack can hold it steady
Will the roof racks support all that weight. I guess it’s a good thing you both are in shape
It held our weight just fine!
This was also my question! I'm really interested in these roof racks AND tent! But afraid it wouldn't hold us and our 60lb and 40lb dogs
The dogs may be tough. It's been holding us fine but it may not hold forever.
That rack is rated for 150lb.. have u had any issues after using the tent for the last few years? I went and bought a 150lb rated rack too but I want a tent now, lol.
Just wondering if it would hold body weight on top!
It's been fine for us since 150 is the dynamic weight. But use it at your own risk! There's a chance you break the top lol

Look into the backbone system from rhino rack it has a static capacity of 600lbs
We did not! Im guessing we are taking a gamble with this setup

Better watch out for drive thru food or low clearance . Nice tent I'm doing military trailer fully loaded since my jku soft top .
This is true!
That roof rack says its rated for 150lbs? How has it been with ytall two sleeping up there olus the weight of tent
No issues!
Now I wish I had a hard top, very nice you two✌🏾
No need. Just slap on a bumper mount roof rack :)

This is true! We have been thinking about this since we installed it. We will likely switch over to a more secure bolt setup!
@@Garagecouple even regular hex bolts would be an improvement, atleast you'd need tools!
Yes! Good call! Would be nice to have some torx bolts lol! Or even a 10mm hex, you know, the size that's impossible to find when you need it!
Looking for a system for my Jk. How is yours after a year of use?
You guys need to test it out at our Cal4 wheel event at the end of the month. Hi Desert Round up.😁👍

A very good choice mounting a tent on your roof. It should keep you both safe from wild animals and heavy rain storms.
Awesome! We are excited to put it to use!
Where did you find the instructions online?
Ugh I wish I could have met ya’ll and was still in the San Diego area!
Next time!
How did those roof bars hold up with the tent mounted to them?
Let us know how the roof rack holds up over time. The bar appears to be bending under the weight.
