I finally a detailed look at the FrontRunner roof top tent. I've been eyeing this for a while for my Land Rover Discovery this is perhaps the lowest profile / light tent in the market. Thank you for posting
Mr Envious here....I've been wanting to do some (actually any) overlanding upgrades to my TJ, but for now, I will live vicariously through your videos with tips and upgrades to your awesome rig. Can't wait to see it all in action. Thanks for another great informative video.
Hey man, been following your channel for a couple of months now and I just wanna say this is by far the best Jeep tj RUclips channel out there. Good tips and tricks, good reviews, good Jeep. Can’t wait to go home to use some of the tricks on my own tj
I would like to hear how its holding up after use. I also have a TJ, but we plan to put the RTT on top of the trailer so we can have a "base camp”and still use the Jeep. Thanks for posting this video. Your channel is very inspiring.
As usual, your video is just outstanding. I really like how you really focus on every detail, giving the viewer the most information to make an informed decision about whether this is the right tent for one. When I get to the point of choosing a tent myself, definitely will consider this video. Thanks for sharing.
love your channel man from on TJ guy to another! ESPECIALLY in the overlanding community. not many of us in this field and we try hard to make things work. you have really honest opinions on things and you make things work for you and do it on a budget not of the time. I made my little tailgate from watching your video and I love it. keep doing what you brother and when you post a video I take time out of the day stop and watch no matter what it is.
Trey Sesek dude that means a ton man! Thank you so much for the comment. And yes I totally agree. Hard to find any decent content on 2 door Overland rigs.
Sad to see your TJ go. I have a 99 TJ doing an LS swap now. Love the channel man. I Live in Fort Smith and you mentioned somebody from ROGERS built your roof rack. Can you drop me a link to him? Maybe he still has the auto cad design?
I just recently bought the Schmitty built tent for $712 on sale. It is absolutely stunning how comfy the bed inside is, cane with led lighting, a charging port for a cigarette lighter and a 20 foot cord to go into my 4runner or be wired to a spare battery, wouldn’t have been a bad choice at all. But I must say I love you jeep man!
That bolt breaking doesn’t bode well with me. Looking forward to your review after some extended dirt time with her. Looks good though and the price sure is right
Looking forward to all the new videos. My best friend and I live in LR area and are starting a channel where we are camping in all the state parks we can. Would love to have you on and speak to your favorite camping stories from Arkansas. Keep up the awesome content! Drew and Ryan
this video is really helpful, thank you for the indepth review of this tent. Im planning on getting a Jeep JL two door, and have been trying to find a rooftop tent that can fit two people comfortably as well as fit on a two door wrangler JL. most people would go for the four door wrangler for overlanding because of the space as well as the roof space for a rooftop tent. But I just love the two door more. Im so glad I found this video because now I know there is a tent that can do the job! now I know what my first mod will be for my future overlanding trips. thank you!
I would advise to replace all that cheap hardware for some high quality grade 8. Just my opinion from someone who has had cheap hardware bite them before. By the way great channel and your jeep has sparked my interest in jeeps again! Thanks and keep it up man !
Hey man, as a fellow TJ owner (1999 Sahara) I have really enjoyed your videos. I have been in a rut with my Jeep trying to save up for some major upgrades but seeing your channel has given me the boost of energy to start making some progress and just get out on the trail! Keep up the great work man!
Thanks for the video. Heather has officially picked the tent she wants.. We have been looking and talking..... Talking and looking.....great review of the tent.. Now it's just pulling the trigger and getting ours.
Great video. I got really inspired by the roof rack video you did. I got the HMF LED brackets in the mail the other day and have my rear rack mounting system just about completed. I plan to start bending the main rails for my roof rack and finishing up pretty soon. I really like how compact this tent folds up, but I wanna to go a little bigger/longer I think. I’m 6’3” tall and want room for my wife and 7 year old daughter. Fortunately I cut and stretched my TJ to LJ length a couple years ago so I have about 15” extra length up there to play with. I have a build thread on JeepForum if you’re interested. It’s titled “My surgical TJ-6 build” I actually gave you a shout out at the beginning of the roof rack section ;-) I’m thinking I might set my tent up to open out over the back of the Jeep so I can install a retractable awning on the side of my rack. Still just a though at this point though. Anyway thanks for sharing. It’s really helpful to have detailed reviews like this. Cheers.
My girlfriend loves camping and stuff like that, i kinda hate it to be honest BUT! seeing this tent makes me wanna hook it up on my Montero and hit the road with my girl!
Hey there brother! That’s a nice rooftop tent ⛺️ on ur Jeep! I liked the tires and rims setup as well! Can’t wait for the next video! This is Big Boy Frank from Texas Peace out ✌🏼
Very cool Inam moving to Florida in July lol and I am going to purchase a yj two door which I love but was looking for an tent tonfit a two door. Great video thanks for sharing
yea... that's the problem with the thin ones, can't really keep bedding in it, not really a bad thing, just a trade off, you should make a video of it w/o the rain fly, love to see how that looks
Good point. I've also got a 2 door jk, so bulk and weight have to be scrutinized. This RTT seems like a great fit to my needs, but keeping my bedding in the tent would be ideal. So my question is: if bedding causes a bulge in the tent when stowed, how much is too much?
Love your channel and thank you so much for spending the time to make these videos. The added advantage to get to the ice chest was pretty cool!! That is a big plus in my book.
Dude, I Think you're channel is amazing. I am on the road a lot but have a home in Arkansas. Could you do do some videos on where the good trails are around Little Rock, Hot Springs area. I really want to go exploring with my kids when I get home. Thanks so much for all your hard work. So so good!
Awesome. I'm curious...can you make it through the drive through with it?? I have a 5" lift and 37's. Gotta find a rack builder, then I'm getting this. Perfect video and thanks for posting it.
You have done some really great things to your Jeep I really like the rack GREAT WORK The tent is nice also However much to tall for my garage 🥺 Nice Jeep
Brilliant video/review, I normally use an oztent RV3 but fancy the extra comfort of a RTT but not the extra weight of most makes so have been looking at the front runner one....your review has helped me make up my mind👍 ....next mission...gotta persuade the long haired colonel to release the funds😂🤞
I know I’m in the minority here. I’m sure RTTs are awesome for some, aesthetically I just don’t like how they look on top of rigs especially Jeeps. And personally I like to be able to leave camp whenever I need. Not knocking your setup at all, love your channel. Look forward to some more overlanding vlogs from you. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Arkansas Offroad I bet it is. There’s definitely been a few times I just felt like sleeping in the drivers seat vs setting up a tent lol. Wheel on brotha
I love your channel!!! I actually have 2 Door JK Jeep but your mods and adventure videos have helped a lot. My question to you...Where did you get your roof rack? I am getting a rooftop tent like yours and most of the roof bar racks support 350LB. Is this enough for the tent and two people sleeping in the tent. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Adventure On!!!
I like that tent, I've been wondering for a while what brand might fit my TJ. Thanks for the demo! That rack out back, above the spare is perfect for those late night pee's. Just place an old coffee tin can out there before going to sleep, then when you need to go just stand on your knees at the window, whip your Johnson out and let er' rip. Then when you hear the stream hit the can, you'll know when you're on target. After that just fall back on the mattress and back to sleep!
The weakest thing about this Tent is Not the ladder ... its the floor of the Tent!! If u will step on it often it will break !! Your tj looks perfekt thoug. 👍🏽
Where did you ultimately end up putting the rods for the sides? Not the shorter ones, but the longer ones. One end goes through the eyelet/grommet with the "hook", but where did you stick the "non-hook end" for the sides?
How's the tent holding up after 2 years? I truck camp and tow my TJ...in Arizona for the winter. I was thinking of adding a roof top for some back country-get-aways. Thank you for the video. 2022
Out of interest, does it measure 8" high? Looks a bit taller even on the shorter section. I also like the idea of a lower profile packed tent but it's hard to tell if yours ended up being as advertised
Man my worst nightmare is getting mud on my shoes and then having to come into one of those things. Really sucks but it looks nice from a tj owner here
As someone looking for the 1st time to buy a new JL Wrangler for daily use and lots camping with my wife ( we both have backpacking/motorcycle camping experience) I wanted to ask your advice as to 2 or 4 doors? I've driven 2 door TJ's & JK's and loved driving the 2 door. I'm looking to do it all except hard rock crawling that would do damage to a stock Rubicon w/ 33's. If you could go for either today new would you opt for the 4 dr despite knowing 2 doors is way cooler and probably lot more fun to drive. cheers
2 doors are best for maneuverability. You can really navigate tight trails with ease and turn around easily. They are generally more of a rough ride because of the shorter wheel base. I always wish I had more space in my 2 door, but I still like it. I might actually go for a 4 door simply because I've never experienced a 4 door vehicle. It may also be better for daily driving because of the longer wheel base. So, tomato tomato, lol. I think the 2 door looks cooler.
thank you for this review, all the way from Switzerland ! One Question to the Zippers: Are thy YKK , or what Brand are they ? Thank you for your Answer, much appriciated!
Man I'm actually not sure! I sold the tent recently or I'd go look and tell you. I do have a follow up long term review of this tent - it's a separate video on my channel. Maybe it'll be on there somewhere. Sorry I couldn't help more!
Great video and love the Jeep! I have a 98 TJ and wondering if you are able to remove the soft top with the rack on and have you kept the rack on with tent while removing the soft top? Thanks!
Appreciate it! I use my soft top like a bikini top. I only remove the side windows and back windows. I like keeping the top on to block the sun. Windows come on and off with the rack on.
Help, I'm thinking of buying a 98 wrangler from my parents for my university years, it's 80,000 miles and it's in perfect condition, do you think it can survive at least 7 years until I can work to buy another one? If something serious happens to the jeep in this time would it be very expensive to repair? Or do you think I should spend a little more and buy something newer?
Thank you for sharing! Having a 2-door Jeep is hard to find tents for. So with the roof rack & tent attached...you are unable to go put the soft top down during a trip, correct?
This is literally the only good video I found on this tent.... wow
Thanks! That might be a strong reason why I made it...
Me Three
Great to see a 2 door jeep.
Ditto, tired of seeing the JKU's with roof top tents. I really like your roof rack.
yeah i like them better and it seems like it’s easier to off-road with them then with a two door
I love that wheel&tire combo.
Everything you are doing comes to a stop when you get the notification that Arkansas Offroad just dropped a new video!
Thank you!!
I finally a detailed look at the FrontRunner roof top tent. I've been eyeing this for a while for my Land Rover Discovery this is perhaps the lowest profile / light tent in the market. Thank you for posting
Glad to help. I agree though, I couldn't find any decent videos about this tent anywhere.

Man, I miss your old TJ. I go back through to watch some of your old videos sometimes. 😢
Same!
Same!
@@ArkansasOffroad it would be awesome if someday you could buy her back, just for old times sake.
I would like to hear how its holding up after use. I also have a TJ, but we plan to put the RTT on top of the trailer so we can have a "base camp”and still use the Jeep. Thanks for posting this video. Your channel is very inspiring.

Very cool concept! Yeah I'd love to!
Really good upgrades. Gonna do the same thing with my YJ soon. Love the roof rack.

I have had mine for over a year but on a 2007 Land Cruiser and I agree with your comments. Mine survived an ocean storm at PINS!
Nice!
Awesome video! Seriously one of the best jeep / outdoor channels out there. Keep up the good work!
PALOM Outdoors thank you!

Thanks for the video. Heather has officially picked the tent she wants.. We have been looking and talking..... Talking and looking.....great review of the tent.. Now it's just pulling the trigger and getting ours.
They make extension ladders to add to your ladder and also you can drill your own holes to change the ladder lenght.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to include all the little details.

Cool video and Jeep. If that's a 6 foot mattress and you got room on top and bottom, you're 5-8 buddy.
Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for
I'm watching this video from India.... Good job brother 👍
The “aaaawwwww” in the beginning after you got the tent 😂😂

Yep. Slept with my wife up there with me plenty of times. Even fit my dog.
@@ArkansasOffroad thanks. Great looking jeep btw.

Nice review on the Front Runner. I can appreciate the roof top tents, I myself, not a fan. I'm a ground tent guy. I've got an RV3 Oz Tent.

Wow dream build. Thanks for sharing.
I like it.Very simple setup to.Looks good on your jeep.!!!
Great vid. I have the same tent on my forester.
Really making me want a 2d Jeep buddy.
This side up? Really liking what you are doing with your Jeep.
I just got a smittybilt rtt for my fj, it's been awesome
I love your setup!

Arkansas Offroad I bet it is. There’s definitely been a few times I just felt like sleeping in the drivers seat vs setting up a tent lol. Wheel on brotha
Agree, they suck when on top of your rig, but they are great on a trailer.
Awesome setup.
Nicely detailed video, good job
This is so cool .......................
Exc review, very helpful and detailed
I have a 04 Rubicon. I was wanting to do a rooftop tent but wasnt sure it could handle the weight.
What roof rack did you go with?

Awesome, thank you! It's a custom built rack. I have a separate video of it on my channel.

I don't have the Jeep anymore, but it's doing great. I have a separate video reviewing the tent after 1 year if you haven't seen that already.
Very nice! Looks good as well. How does it hold up on the rain? Any leaks?
Out of interest, does it measure 8" high? Looks a bit taller even on the shorter section. I also like the idea of a lower profile packed tent but it's hard to tell if yours ended up being as advertised
Getting my tent was a great feeling day. I know the feeling.
What tent did you go with?
This may have been asked before but what brand roof rack system are you running? Love the jeep man. I have an 03 tj.
A man of culture 0:04
What brand roof rack is that?
Sweet setup. I have a YJ with a smittybilt rooftop tent! Love it!
Thanks! It's custom built. I have a separate video on it.
Taking a poll...why don't you use "nitro" to air down/air up your tires?
Awesome looking set up!!!
Man my worst nightmare is getting mud on my shoes and then having to come into one of those things. Really sucks but it looks nice from a tj owner here
Joey Loi agreed. I think I’m actually going to secure a little bag outside of the tent for dirty shoes for that reason.
Working on a little shoe bag attachment at the top of the ladder for this.
That’s super nice mate, wonder how much shipping would be to Australia
12 didgeridoos worth mate...
Squirrel dam that’s not bad at all
Cheap Jeeper 😊
As someone looking for the 1st time to buy a new JL Wrangler for daily use and lots camping with my wife ( we both have backpacking/motorcycle camping experience) I wanted to ask your advice as to 2 or 4 doors? 2 doors are best for maneuverability. You can really navigate tight trails with ease and turn around easily. They are generally more of a rough ride because of the shorter wheel base. What I don’t understand about sliding the mounting bolts into the channel is how it actually tightens anything. Why wouldn’t the tent slide around?
It pulls itself against the crossbar of the roof rack. It's very sturdy.
Very Sharp Rig. I love Her
Love this video
Srry fr late waching ur video it was wonderfool .i will try to buy 👍
Any follow up review now that you've had it for a while?
What do you think about the new bronco, it can beat the wrangler?

How has the tent hold up. Iv read reviews that its doesn't hold up to while
Like the channel definitely subscribed.
Lmao the Halo "awwwww".
Thank you for sharing! Having a 2-door Jeep is hard to find tents for. So with the roof rack & tent attached...you are unable to go put the soft top down during a trip, correct?
I would think so.
