A few VERY important disclaimers:
the backbone is rated at 264lbs DYNAMIC, which means it will hold up to 264 while its moving. The Static is around 800lbs, when its stationary...perfect for an RTT. It all sounds nice and dandy but there's another rating that nobody talk about...Off Road Rating. That's the max amount of weight that the backbone can carry while on trail, as in not in a paved road. Get ready to cry.
(Dynamic Rate / 1.5 ) - weight of rack = max total off-road load.
yes, you've read it right...it's not very much.
My setup, a JLU with a backbone and 2 vortex bars can hold up to 220lbs dynamic, but only 146lbs when off roading, and that's just for the bars. You have to do the same for the backbone, which for me is around 156lbs, since the bars are really lightweight.
your pioneer platform, @ 44lbs, will come to
(264/1.5) - 44 = 132lbs. So, if you drive the car loaded with more than 132lbs on your platform, on any unpaved road and the system fails, insurance won't cover the damages AND you'll be voiding any and all warranties.

I have taken my Rhino Rack Backbone system on my Jeep JLU on MANY overlanding trips with a RTT weighing 163lbs. We have taken it through Utah, Washington, Oregon. It has done just fine on all of these trips.
Until the other day.
Word of caution, check the SINGLE bolt that holds down the leg to the backbone system. The vibrations causes these to loosen up. Our front vortex bar ripped off of the car on the freeway. Luckily, it hit no one but we were unable to retrieve the bar. Fortunately, we did not have our tent mounted or anything up there.

You can actually hold more snowboards and skis with that type of rack! I have one that is only for two boards and I can fit 4, two upside down with the other two facing up.

You can attach magnets on to some fabric and you got a privacy shade, plus you can attach many other stuff using magnets that way on the inside
Can you go back to making frs type builds
Robby you can probably use those holes on the inside to hold some cargo panel to bolt stuff on like a hi lift or just camping stuff
been loving the offroad videos, fixing up my cateye silverado 4x4 for some trails and truck camping, Should do some commited crew trail & overnight camp trips haha

10:04 you could put up a kind of nascar window net to put a first aid kit on, or mount things to it.
In Australia the roof top tents I've seen have a bracket in each corner to hold them to the rack. My mate has made a setup with an electric winch to lift his tent up off the and store it in his shed. All he has to do is drive in lift drive out
Backbone rack is perfect for mounting a small fire extinguisher, and hanging light items such as soft shackles, power cords, etc... Have your windows tinted before installing backbone. Your installer can do it, but will thank you for your thoughtfulness. :)

attach a fire extinguisher to that metal at 10:04, also mount a nice highlift jack on the roof, and maybe like a net on the inside window attach it too the metal

The feet of a roof rack are the most critical component. You really need at least 4 per side to handle dynamic loads. Downward force is a minor issue when compared to the side forces generated when a vehicle sways from side to side on a trail or lousy road. Always add at least one extra set of feet regardless of the brand. Those forces need to be spread out.
If the brackets are steel u can use magnets to put on curtains on the rear quarter window while camping

Sick roof rack bro! I would love to shred with you guys sometime, I go to a few resorts around Barrie quite often throughout the winter, would be wild running into you man.
Have the same one, only thing i dont like is rack is to low, there is no space to put your hand trough. I instaled ikamper tent on it, and every time i want to remove it i need to detach rack and lift it.

Man, Rhino Backbone System significantly improved. The installation is now way simpler. I have the first-gen version on my 2013 JKUR.
Can you help me? I need some hard top bolts (extended) so I can secure with rhino rack and rear cargo tray. Help!

Just another big bonus of having boards and ski rack is that if you ever had a roll over, you don't have blades in the cabin with you... Not a pretty site when that happens

the fact that i dont like that rack, makes me happy for you, it was exactly what you wanted, slim and discret, in the mean time im a mf that likes it the full length of the roof and it having a doble bar of some tipe so the things cant slide out of it (like a little wall, i know you understand me) it fits with the buld thats for shure

I have the same rack. WARNING, not all the accessories fit well. I have High Lifting Jack & Shovel Bracket Kit (43157), you have to mount the jack upside down (handle down) for it to fit, kinda (still hits the top). And watch the ski rack. I have the same one. Don't use it. It has popped open while locked sitting on the driveway. My old Yakama rack has never popped open. Good luck.

So heavier and supports much less than Front Runner and ARB and costs as much.
Most platforms are pre-assembled. We sell these in Germany and have only had positive experience to date. I'm curious how your experiences will be with Rhino Rack.
