I’m just a passionate hobbyist, that loves to make Props and other Stuff.
And so I am sharing this build just for the love of all things creative and hope to inspire others into the wonderful world of prop making.
This is my full video “build” of making the Wolverine Cowel. And since a lot of you ask repeatedly how I clean up my 3D prints and especially the print lines on PLA you’ll be glad to know that this video really focuses on that. How to smooth out a 3D PLA print with minimal effort. And since I love sharing my prop making passion so much with you guys, I’ve of course included everything, all the way to the finished display prop.
I’ve actually used talcum powder for mixing my paints, as far back as some 30ish years ago, when I attended art school. So its safe to say the trick has been around a while. And its always fun to look at new ways of using old teqniques with the ever evolving craft of prop making. Especially when it comes to peoples fast growing interests in everything related to 3d printing these days.
Links to the 3D model, as well as a list of some of the materials and tools I use can be found below.
I really hope you enjoy it:)

Absolutely amazing detailed breakdown of the entire process. Why on earth haven’t I been saving ever last drop of wasted resin in a separate container like that?!? Goal for 2022 is to make a spray booth like that 🤯
Hello there Uncle Jessy Sir😁 Thank you so much for saying that😁 That really means a lot, especially when it’s from someone who I know share’s the same interests. And you’ll be happy to know a «Studio Tour» is coming, and I’ll hopefully put in the making of the spray booth😉 Have a good one, and enjoy the holiday’s with family & friends. Cheers
@@PropsNstuff I'm looking forward to the spray booth part, as I am in dire need of one myself. Don't know where to buy the filter yet w/o "breaking" the bank (yes, I'm a cheapskate).

Please terminator,predator...
He said UV Resin and I flipped out, "There's no way that's a cheaper alternative to putty!" and the realization when he finally showed his 3D printing resin was such an aha moment
I'ma be honest, that killed part of my soul when he added plastic eyes instead of lenses. I know it's a prop, but you can't tell me that everyone DOESN'T have a desire to wear a build like this, and NOT be disappointed when you can't see out of it. Lol
Great build!
Agreed. But an incredible build for sure.
Personally I would have tried to get some cheap sunglasses, pop the lenses out, and use those. 😉
Even Daredevil wants to cosplay sometimes.
that's a quadruple negative right there
I am simply blown away with the level of craftsmanship you apply to your props. I've been following you on Insta for some time now, and have always wondered how you could achieve such a high finishing to your Wolverine helmet. Seeing that helmet always brings me back good memories of afternoons on end reading X- Men 90's comics. Such classics. Thanks for sharing 👍 😊
You are correct about the talc. Body fillers are basically just polyester resin, like you would use for fiberglass work, with fillers like talc to create the paste consistency. You can also make your own out of regular polyester or epoxy resin and add in talc or glass bead till you get the consistency you want.
Never seen that type of finishing process before with the resin! Genius! Definitely gonna be giving that a try. This turned out phenomenal!
Thank you so much for that Mr. Luke😊 Have a great one, cheers
That spray booth is a definite must! Great job on the detailing, may have to make myself a wolverine cowl now 😍
As a fellow prop maker, I must say, you're truly legit. I have been using resin and spray putty interchangeably for years, but your method to add talcum powder is new to me. I've learnt something exciting, can't wait to try it.
I don't think dedicated small bottles of uv resin is practical. Just because the props which makers makes are usually very big.
One difference is, I use a large UV torchlight and a wider brush than yours to cover wider areas faster. I usually make 8 of these at the same time 🤭
Btw, with masking tape, hardware stores sells low tack(low adhesion) masking tape for hobby paints like this. You're totally right that masking tape will tear off paint, I make masks too and got my fair share of this problem. I'm using the low tack masking tape from 3M now and they save me a ton of rework.
This will be a 100% game changer in my finishing workflow! Thank you!!
Great job as always! I appreciate these videos because they’re always such high quality and enjoyable to watch. Looking forward to the next one!
That makes me so glad to hear Sir😁 Yes, I always try my best to get the best footage as well as telling the prop making story. So I really appreciate it when someone points it out😁 Thanks again, have an awesome day. Cheers
Fantastic! So helpful for my area of the hobby. Look forward to giving this a go. Thank you!
Resin is WONDERFUL to paint, another added benefit.
This is great! I hated mixing the x3d stuff from smooth on and gave up on it immediately. Definitely really interesting about the powder that was definitely the missing step!
WoW man! You cant imagine how much I'm appreciating the whole video! Really went through the whole process!
Love your walkthrough on this, although I've never been able to do anything like it from start to finish in a day let alone a week. But it's been a while since I've done a big project, and my printers are FAR better tuned in now than they've ever been. I can't wait to give a project like this a try.
Absolutely beautiful professional work. Cheers!
So awesome
wow it looks amazing man. the detail in the coloring and the blending for the like a BD look. it's crazy awesome how this came out
Wow! I am amazed! It looks sooo nice!
Awesome insight into this process! Keen to try it out on some prints for sure. Amazing paint job as well 🔥🔥
Brooooo this is beautiful!!!!!
Awesome video. Some of the techniques I knew and many I didn't. I had started dabbling in the resin but honestly just re-using old leftovers of resin never occurred to me.
Absolutely beautiful! You are undeniably a master artist.
Awesome 👍
This came out so beautiful amazing work!
Fantastic job!
Beautiful!
Thank you👊🏻
I like how "It's 22 degrees outside" is explanation for not painting outside, because a t-shirt and shorts type of day just isn't your thing.
ahhh..I know, I know🙃 Was supposed to say -22c out, and that would freeze the spray paint instantly☺️ Cheers
Hahaha 22° for me means going with a Jacket. It was between 35 to 40°C these days.
@@PropsNstuff Omg -22c ...
@@MartinBuzon Wow stuff that lol 22c is a beautiful day.
