After watching this video about a year ago, I bought this kit. It was a lot of fun, and it saved me about an hour of grinding. (It also saved the lock, which is good because the key turned up in an old toolbox.)

I bought one of these and they're pretty great ' - I work in vending and it defeated our locks very quickly an easily. The problem I had with it was that it misaligned the notches on the inner and outer ring (obvious user error). I wasn't able to rectify this issue without using a key with the upper notch filed off. Probably could have been avoided if I had turned the pick back before removing, but this really illustrates why not being able to lock in the impression is indeed a problem.
@@napleswolverine7189 I'm thinking about buying a set very soon, just wondering if they still work, or have lock manufacturers come up with new designs to prevent these picks from still being effective ? Cheers
I had the exact same problem my first time using these, which was yesterday😅 picked the vending machine open, took out the pick, and it was stuck. Luckily I could put the pick back in (the key didn't work, as the notches weren't aligned), and after a few tries got it closed again. @R33f4_61 in answer to your question, which is probably irrelevant by now, some newer lock companies vary the length of springs or pins in tubular locks to make them impossible for these tools to pick. Most large companies (like coin-operated gumball machines, vending machines, any claw-game style money-maker, or coin-accepting machine, etc.) still make very simple locks, since very few people naturally know how to pick tubular locks.
wow , bought one today thinking it was a picking tool but finding out its an impressioning tool , that's even easier,. thanks for this old video, it proves archives are a good thing
Before clicking on this video I was thinking, how awesome it would be if LPL said how he _impressed_ he is with the kit 😂 just 30 seconds into the video and I'm laughing my ass of
A little tip, just got mine works perfect, after adding 1 tension band, the tip: to lock your pick to a setting after picking a lock, you can make a lock ring from any piece of tube that has a slightly small inside diameter than the tension bands outer diameter. twist it over the bands so your not pushing them forward, only needs slight pressure on bands to prevent sliders from moving.
Why not just have the indexing bar permanently installed with a spring? That way if you need it it'll stay extended and if you don't it will retract into the tool. I mean it would make the tool a bit more complex (aka more expensive) but then you wouldn't have the chance to lose the rods.
@@quinnpriv7393 there's an Allen head screw under one of the wires. Slide the wire up towards the magnetic ring and then unscrew the Allen head. Then I'll use needle nose pliers to remove the tension rod if hard to get out.
You say that it can't be tightened to lock the pins in place so you can use it as a permanent key until you loosen it but isn't that what that Allen key hole on the coloured ring is for? Looks like it to me! I will find out soon as I ordered this set a week ago!!

I've been looking for a set for a while now. I just didn't know what was best to buy. I'm glad these actually work for how cheap they are. Great review. I just bought a set about 10 minutes ago. These are defiantly handy to have around...
I have had zero luck this this set. Strangely however, I have had unbelievable success with the same tool with the inner bar. Specifically the red tool. The purple tool is supose to be the same size as the red but it is not. The newest version doesnt even have a hole to add a tention rod if needed.
Great review. However, buyers beware. I just purchased this kit and they no longer have the small hole for the tension bar and they no longer include the tension bars.
I'm surprised so many people like this set. I got this exact same set and can't get it to work at all. I've been picking for over 20 years. I've tried everything including bending the pick wires and have had no success with this kit at all. I've single pin picked these locks with more success.
I’m thinking if you really like these picks, and really want to lock the pins in place to pick several of the same locks or make a key, you could slide a very small worm-screw type hose clamp onto the lower part of the shaft. Tighten it down when you have the correct set on the pins.
Several years later, the link is still good, and now, in April 2020, the set happens to be on sale! I just ordered one. I don't really know why, I'm a level 0 novice picker whose regular picks are still in the mail, and I don't know what I would use these impressioning tools for (impressioning, I guess), but they should give me some locksport street cred, I guess.
You can add a locking ring to these pics by finding a short piece of tube that is slightly smaller than the tension bands, and after picking the lock, put on the tube with a twisting motion, you can then check the pin lengths or reopen the lock like its a key. It's good as long as you dont push on pins to hard. Ps: great pick job
Interesting that these only work on padlocks. We tried them on some vending machine locks and no luck at all. Apparently vending machine locks have some kind of scheme to block such an easy to get defeat to their security!
The set screw on the colored ring is to hold the wires in place and maintain the impression that you got. Same as the twist ring, just not as convenient.
Pass on the savings and use the menu to change the prices of the drinks. You can get into a more basic menu (just stats, no changes) on coke machines by pressing 4,2,3,1 but the real fun menu only shows when the door is open. You can change prices and (I believe) 'test' things like drink dispensing and change dispensing. I think you might even be able to change whether the 'fun' menu shows up with the door closed or not.
you don't know what you're talking about, the HUK tubular lock pick set does have a tightening ring to keep the pick needles in place. On the Blu one, it's right on that blue ring there is a set-screw, well tighten that with the included Allen key and it will tighten that ring, thus keeping those needles in place, allowing you to have permanent key to measure and make a real key with. SO THIS SET HAS NO DOWN SIDE!! I GOT THEM OFF OF AMAZON FOR 17 DOLLARS (US) AND THEY ARE AWESOME. of course Amazon gives you free 2 day shipping too!
Love all your vid's LPL. I just bought all the stuff for impressioning keys after watching BB's video on it. I deal with Best IC cores at the U and they're thought to pick so I thought this might be a better option. Defo gonna buy this set though. Probably get int Wafer locks later on. Thanks.

This video is very helpul to us beginners, i just want to ask if this tool can be used to a sentry safe which is mde in china, there is a small notch in the center post, are they all 7.8 mm in diameter?
Hello, I bought the huk set to open a cheap safe in our basement. The huk set did not come with the pins to insert to turn the lock. Your set in the video had it in and the huk set they sent you had pins for each tube. I have looked online and don’t see a huk set that comes with the pins? I came with extra rings, several picks that I don’t know how to use because the tubes cover everything. How do I get the pins for the center ? I cannot open the lock without them. Thanks and your videos are the bomb! Been watching you for years! Thanks
Watched this video 2 weeks ago and ordered the set from Banggood, which I hadn't heard of before. I knew it probably wasn't the best source but they had the set and accessories I wanted and they showed up quickly and in good shape. Unfortunately a fraudulent charge tried to hit my credit card even quicker. The tool set is better than I really expected and I was able to open several tool box locks within seconds, but I think the overall quality is best for infrequent users like myself and not the professional or frequent users. Someone mentioned the HPC is much better and the price reflects that but for hobby type users I suspect this set for under $30 will serve them well. I did have to tighten some of the set screws a little and a couple of the tension pins bent slightly because I ended up using too much torque instead of technique but no problems going forward.
On locks that this doesn't work on would you be able to spp the lock and then leave the lock slightly turned so the pins are in the set position then impression it?
How does it work without the pin though I was seeing your shell and I have found that using one without the pin doesn’t open till 12 but I can see that you using the other locks with the beard and without the paint so I have to do you have to show me how to do that again over and over again thank you

I bought a set of these on Amazon. The set didn't come with tensioning bars... and it would appear I needed them. After spending over an hour trying to pick the lock, I gave up and drilled it out. Drilling it took about five minutes (I was amazed by how soft the metal was). As I had lost the key, I needed a new lock anyway. I returned the set.
The magnetic reset-ring is pretty badass. The collar can be used to vary tension as well as use it as a key. It is that lock without the notch though...a Cobra isn't it? The design of the centre post there is heptagonal and is supposed to stop tubular picks from even entering the lock at all! Awesome, they're gonna be super-pissed if they see that I reckon, lol.
+huxleypig69 I'd imagine that they are even more pissed about my video #224 (though it does have a generally upbeat message)... 😜 can you explain what you mean about the collar?
So you'll get some tubular locks that self-impression easier using different amounts of collar tension. Then there is the 100% full bollock-lock for key.
I bought this set to open my safe I'd lost the key to - it didn't work, but bouncing the safe and turning the handle did! I could have saved myself some money lol
Good set but the new ones come with the driver pins installed and there almost impossible to remove, I borrowed a set of snap on needle nose pliers to remove them and it was a struggle! Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated 👍
I have the GOSO set and it works well. I *DO* like the tension aspect of this set however. Oh well... you can never have too many tubular impression sets... I'm off to Banggood again!
LockPickingLawyer I know. but I like the tension aspect. I've had problems with that aspect before. I do like this set and will add it to my collection. I really like your reviews and always learn from them. Thanks much!
How would you go about closing the lock once you have opened it? I have my bike lock I was practicing on open but I can’t use my key anymore because the indexing bar.
Daft question but I have a small tubular lock...keys sadly lost , hence me being here. Looking to get one of the lock picking tools but dont want to get the wrong diameter of lock. Its quite small, 4 pin . How do I measure to get the right diameter lock picking tool? Inside circle only or from outside of lock to outside of lock? Many thanks Callum
Hey. I have just bought a kit from Banggood, and ordered it from UK warehouse. Those do actually have the notch installed, in all tree. (The index bar.) They do also come in a black and yellow pack, labeled "Do NIU" and a label with the manufactor on. Hangzhou Guhongni Electronic Commerce Co Ltd. The kit have a substancial weight, it do not feel flimzy or cheep. And the best, it arrived two days before announced when ordered. I can approve the items. Now i'll have to put 'em to the test.
I thought I had purchased this set but the set that I received didn’t have the three indexing bars or the hole to take the bar so have not as yet been able to unlock the box
Nice little review. I have had this set for a while and although made in the east works better and has held up to my rigorous testing better than the southOrd. Thanks as always for sharing 😘😘👍👍👍👍
+Pick Beard Thanks for sharing your experience. I've always wondered about the SO product... the price is pretty steep. By all accounts I've heard, it works well, but I can't bring myself to pay that much when there are options like this.
So... quick question: what if there is a tubular lock where pin #4 is broken - more precisely, the spring isn't reacting at all. The pin doesnt want to go all the way in and yet the spring does not kick the pin out? hope that makes sense. The pin does move in and out a little, but not all the way
I gave up. Ended up just forcing and was not happy how easy it was to get that open. Are there any tubular style locks like this that rock and can't be nuked so easy?
I ordered the tubular lock pick tool, but it was the wrong set that you gave.. that's still OK. I will just drill the hole and install the index tension bar. do you happen to know what size of hole it is.ie diameter.. oh thanks for teaching me this hobby. you and also bosina bill
Maybe this is a stupid question but after inserting the HUK tool and tensioning the lock could you not push down on each rod separately and pick each pin singly?
The ones on the Banggood site make a point of stating the "new" version does not have the holes for the tesion bar any more. I had the old "Pickmasters" tubular lock pick and the first version they made did not have a tension nub. They made a new one with the tension nub and that worked much better for me. Of course they are out of business and the tension nub finally broke off. Was looking at these as a replacement but I do much better with the tension bar in place. If I could be sure I would get the version that has it I would order them. Unfortunately there does not seem to be any indication of a set that includes the tension bar any longer.
The ones I just ordered have Q and A responses stating that the tensioner bars are already inside on them now. I used express shipping so I can update in the next few days if that information is correct.

So with the confusion I see in the comments about the missing tensioning bar on some kits. Is this still the best kit to be ordering? This video being from early 2017 makes me wonder if there are better sets for similar prices? It seems even on the link below they specifically state the new version doesn't have the tensioning holes anymore. It shows an image of the end of the tools and states "The new version has no the holes anymore." So what is a good alternative to this set for a similar price?
keypro M8 ( search; [Ship from US] Free Shipping Tubular Pick Tool 7.0 PIN 7.5 PIN 7.8 PIN ) has one that looks identical for $15.99. At that price, I'll make my own pins as long as the hole is there.
I have 2 of these sets. In each one there is 1 pick where the index pin will not come out. Cannot get a grip to tug it out no matter what. I have 3 tubular locks. One is a pushover, the other 2 I've messed around without success.
Hi all, I know this is super old but, would this be worth to open the coin tray door from an arcade cabinet that I bought? Its missing that key so I cant access the coins that have been inserted.

OK Mr LPL, after watching this I bought the set, and I started to practice on my Kingston laptop lock. Unlocked in about 15 seconds. However, now the barrel is rotated 90 degrees to the unlocked position, and I cant lock it again. As the keyway on the outside (of the ring, opposite the index slot) is now not aligned with the indexing slot on the barrel, I cant get the genuine key back in. The mechanism seems to have some spring between the outside (where the key goes in) and inside (where the T bar slots into the laptop) - do you know if this needs to be compressed or not? Or do you know if there needs to be something inserted into the keyway to simulate the real key? This is the first time I’ve effectively disabled a lock whilst experimenting - that must put me into the total amateur category :(. Any advice from a complete professional?
When this happens on vending machines, they use a key with the outer tit ground off. Then the key can be incerted in any position in order to align it with the inner notch. Get the correct key and grind off the outer tit, and realign the lock, or grind the outer tit off the tool. Next time code the tool after opening the lock, and make a key from it. That way you won't have to grind your tool. That didn't sound good. Sounded better in my head. Lol
Not good for me.Bought this set with tensioning rods in order to decode an big old kryptonite 7.8mm (circa 1999) bike lock that I had lost the keys to. I installed the tensioning rod correctly using the allen key/slot. No success after many attempts. The rods would all be pushed back to the same position. Tried more or fewer o-rings but no luck. I then tried to pick another tubular OXFORD bike lock which I was using but this was 7.5mm. That lock pick could not slide in at all with or without tension rod. It was very close but just would not go in. I also asked two recommended locksmiths if they could decode and key my kryptonite and they said not possible. Any advice would be appreciated.
I bought this set a few years ago and it came with some demo perspex locks to pick. It was a nightmare to pick, putting in the tool and twisting got me nowhere, I had to manually manipulate the pins to move the lock part of a rotation. So I got bored with it and left it. Then I come across a bike locked to my bike and I grab the tool just in case I can at least jiggle it. Lo and behold, old Kryptonite lock fell away in seconds. Back to the plastic demo locks, still won't work, they're just too sloppy for the pick it seems 😝

@Stefan Ronin it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much you really help me out :D
I bought one of these and they're pretty great ' - I work in vending and it defeated our locks very quickly an easily. The problem I had with it was that it misaligned the notches on the inner and outer ring (obvious user error). I wasn't able to rectify this issue without using a key with the upper notch filed off. Probably could have been avoided if I had turned the pick back before removing, but this really illustrates why not being able to lock in the impression is indeed a problem.
How much did bought that please thank you
@@redhaAlRoume I bought some recently they’re less than $30 a real nice set solid well-made
@@napleswolverine7189 I'm thinking about buying a set very soon, just wondering if they still work, or have lock manufacturers come up with new designs to prevent these picks from still being effective ?
Before clicking on this video I was thinking, how awesome it would be if LPL said how he _impressed_ he is with the kit 😂 just 30 seconds into the video and I'm laughing my ass of
Cringe
A little tip, just got mine works perfect, after adding 1 tension band, the tip: to lock your pick to a setting after picking a lock, you can make a lock ring from any piece of tube that has a slightly small inside diameter than the tension bands outer diameter. twist it over the bands so your not pushing them forward, only needs slight pressure on bands to prevent sliders from moving.
I dont understand, what did you do?
Great thinking, thank you!
completely useless tip without a pictoral
It is 2020 and I just ordered the set for 14.99. Good deal. Thank you for the info.
Does it have the tension bar? On the pictures on the website it says that they removed it
SuperKaanos It has the index bar.
@@highvisibilityraincoat I am so confused because some people say it does not but some say it does.
Sean P Mine had it
@@highvisibilityraincoat Was the tension bar removable? Thanks in advance
Why not just have the indexing bar permanently installed with a spring? That way if you need it it'll stay extended and if you don't it will retract into the tool. I mean it would make the tool a bit more complex (aka more expensive) but then you wouldn't have the chance to lose the rods.
Good idea
Cost, the king of all Chinese manufacturing.
Is there a way to get the indexing bar out of the tool? I got mine used and I'm not sure how to. Tried pulling them out with pliers but didn't work
@@quinnpriv7393 there's an Allen head screw under one of the wires.
I was thinking I would never bother buying such tools, but you know, seems you've talked me into buying these ones. :)
LOL... I've thought that more than once on more than a couple different tools (all of which I eventually bought). It's a sickness!

I've been looking for a set for a while now. I just didn't know what was best to buy. I'm glad these actually work for how cheap they are. Great review. I just bought a set about 10 minutes ago. These are defiantly handy to have around...
Good luck with them!
I have had zero luck this this set. Strangely however, I have had unbelievable success with the same tool with the inner bar. Specifically the red tool.
The purple tool is supose to be the same size as the red but it is not.
The newest version doesnt even have a hole to add a tention rod if needed.
Ive been using these for a few yrs now, never had a lock i couldnt open, great bit of kit
How do I get that indexing bar out of the tool....?
Great review. However, buyers beware. I just purchased this kit and they no longer have the small hole for the tension bar and they no longer include the tension bars.
Where abouts did you buy them, and where they banggood?
I'm surprised so many people like this set. I got this exact same set and can't get it to work at all. I've been picking for over 20 years. I've tried everything including bending the pick wires and have had no success with this kit at all. I've single pin picked these locks with more success.
Thank you for taking time to explain everything in detail, some ppl are so lazy.....keep up the great work
I’m thinking if you really like these picks, and really want to lock the pins in place to pick several of the same locks or make a key, you could slide a very small worm-screw type hose clamp onto the lower part of the shaft. Tighten it down when you have the correct set on the pins.
good thinking!
Received my set today was definitely worth buying and learning how to use...thanks for the video 😁
The set screw on the colored ring is to hold the wires in place and maintain the impression that you got. Same as the twist ring, just not as convenient.
I'll never have to pay for vending machines again!
Me either...but I eat healthy food anyway...sooo...
Why do you buy vending machines?
@@Defy5 lmao good one
Same, now I can get free vending machine product
Pass on the savings and use the menu to change the prices of the drinks. You can get into a more basic menu (just stats, no changes) on coke machines by pressing 4,2,3,1 but the real fun menu only shows when the door is open. You can change prices and (I believe) 'test' things like drink dispensing and change dispensing. I think you might even be able to change whether the 'fun' menu shows up with the door closed or not.
Just bought this set last week, thinking I was getting junk but it might work, lol. Thanks LPL.
you don't know what you're talking about, the HUK tubular lock pick set does have a tightening ring to keep the pick needles in place.
Thanks.

I bought it before watching this video and now I'm a happy little bugger ;)
I am getting mixed messages from the comments here. Does the link in the description contain the product as described in the video or not?
Convinced me. Just ordered a set. Thanks.
+choochoochooseyou Good luck with them. Let me know how they work out for you.
Arrived today. Noticed, though, that mine don't have that hole for indexing that yours has.
Same here, no indexing pin. I wonder if the more expensive set is with indexing pins like in pictures www.banggood.com/3Pcs-Tubular-7-Pins-Lock-Pick-Tools-with-Transparent-7-Pin-Tubular-Lock-Cylinder-Locksmith-Tools-p-1056344.html?rmmds=search
Get in touch. They have sent me out a replacement set.
Shit, I just ordered, and I absolutely need the one with an indexing pin. I have a specific lock I need it for.
This video is very helpul to us beginners, i just want to ask if this tool can be used to a sentry safe which is mde in china, there is a small notch in the center post, are they all 7.8 mm in diameter?
Great video, I just got this set yesterday, good timing.
I got mine from wish about a week and a half before seeing this video, they work great and have the remaining bar spot. Came with 3 little bars too
How do you transfer the 7 pins from the tool (that opened the lock) to a depth code on a tubular key cutter for a blank key?
You have to buy a piece like a legos with the size of each measure pin code..
"I specifically requested that they send me this set, and I did that because it's the one that I've been most IMPRESSED with." Nice one...
you cant get a key made after u open the lock? it doesn't save the pin depths?
Hello,
I bought the huk set to open a cheap safe in our basement.
Yep
How does it work without the pin though I was seeing your shell and I have found that using one without the pin doesn’t open till 12 but I can see that you using the other locks with the beard and without the paint so I have to do you have to show me how to do that again over and over again thank you
I was just about to order it :)... literally... Perfect!
Thanks

+Mark England the goso set does work... I didn't mean to imply otherwise. It's just that this set has be far more reliable for me.
David Rosenberg you either have to pick it back or grind the index mark off the key.
You didn’t discuss using a decoder key to have permanent key made. How do you get a decoder key for this set?
Daft question but I have a small tubular lock...keys sadly lost , hence me being here. Looking to get one of the lock picking tools but dont want to get the wrong diameter of lock. Its quite small, 4 pin . How do I measure to get the right diameter lock picking tool? Inside circle only or from outside of lock to outside of lock? Many thanks Callum
HOw do you remove the indexing bar? Ive tried loosening the set screws I see but it doesnt fall out. Thanks.
Can i use a hose clamp to lock the pins in place?
Hey.
I have just bought a kit from Banggood, and ordered it from UK warehouse.
Those do actually have the notch installed, in all tree. (The index bar.)
They do also come in a black and yellow pack, labeled "Do NIU" and a label with the manufactor on.
You can lock these. if you add a wing-nut hose-clamp over the rubber tension bands.
So... quick question: what if there is a tubular lock where pin #4 is broken - more precisely, the spring isn't reacting at all.
When openend, can I lock it again without a key? Thank you
I ordered the tubular lock pick tool, but it was the wrong set that you gave.. that's still OK. I will just drill the hole and install the index tension bar. do you happen to know what size of hole it is.ie diameter.. oh thanks for teaching me this hobby. you and also bosina bill
Sorry about that. >:-(
The rods that came with the set I got for review were .052", so something along those lines should be ok.
I know you said the pins don't lock but can you use that same set to lock and unlock if I lost my original key.
Maybe this is a stupid question but after inserting the HUK tool and tensioning the lock could you not push down on each rod separately and pick each pin singly?
just had a set of these came with the pins but looks like ill have to file the pins down to fit the holes

Any advice would be appreciated.
where can i buy the tension/indexing bars i got the set with the hole but no index/tension pins
My set can with those "indexing " bars installed, how do I remove them? I have tried using a pair of pliers without success.
You never said how do you remove the tension bar
You have a great channel and thank you for all your wonderful videos. I was all ready to buy this Banggood product and I'm glad I started reading the comments. It's a shame that this company has caused you so much consternation.
What's wrong with Banggood? I order from them all the time and they're excellent!
What's the overall differences between this set and the covert tubular lockpick from covert instruments?
