What I can’t understand is why my old master number 3 is so damn hard to pick. I’ve opened several locks since beginning my journey but that master 3 drives me crazy as I’ve only bitch picked it a couple of times and everyone else seems to get theirs open just by looking at it lol
this video infuriates me. the one time i hired a "professional" locksmith to open an interior door in my house that we had locked the keys inside of came out and had only a gun like this. he screwed around for about 20 minutes with the gun and then said that he would have to drill out the core to get the door open. being a lot less informed at the time i went along with that plan. also, thanks, and have a thumbs up. love your channel.
Uhhhhh no its a scam for real ... they will also sell you the new lock and build it in ... for a bad price of course. Theres a German TV Series in which they tested several Lockpickers and most of them did this or tried to sell stuff.
I think he meant that it works only on some types of locks. If the springs are too tenacious/there's not enough room or the difference in pins is too large I suspect the gun won't open it. Also other designs (disk detainer, etc) won't work either.
My father had one of these. When I was a kid I used it to take the lock off the back of the illegal cable box to access the switch to turn on the Playboy channel. I must have been no more than 10 or 11 y/o. Very easy to use and figure out without instructions.

After doing some research we made the majestic lockaid and I never really understood how to use these. I used to play with them in the warehouse when I was little haha. Wow!!! That is so awesome. It is such a shame when a generational company doesn't have enough interest to keep going. I am trying to start a company that I can hand over to my children when I have them. My father is an attorney and my younger brother is also an attorney but that is not a profession that can be passed down fairly readily. I went to school for most of my life and have a PhD in Chemical engineering however the reason for my going into the chemistry field has become not so important to me. I really love mechanical things and I have built custom motorcycles and 4 wheel drive off road trucks. During my time in school for chemistry I also took courses in locksmithing which may be a route to the generational thing. I am about to start a build on a 1928 Morgan 3 wheeled brook lands type cycle car with 4 wheels. It would be a special and I sourced a BMW R-100 motorcycle motor to which I am going to mate an MG transmission as well as an MG differential. The body will consist of a wooden frame and stretched air raft fabric covered with a plasticizer. I would love to start building these in the USA like they do in the UK. There is a car called a Pembleton T24 that I would love to start a company building these in turn key as well as kit form. That is where I could forma generational company. Take care my friend.
Been using a pick gun since the 80’s. Haven’t found many locks that it won’t open. In all these years I have only broken 1 needle. LPL, you need to refine your technique. The gun works best when you do not put any tension on the core initially. At the moment you snap the gun you put tension on the core with the tension wrench. This give the pins a chance to actually bounce up and separate at the shear line without binding first. It’s a timing thing and it really works. Also having proper alignment of the needle in the key way is “key”. In the video it looks like it’s actually binding in the key way which is what is causing the needle to bend. There shouldn’t be any binding at all, you want the needle to strike the pins freely on free floating pins. It takes some practice to get the technique perfected, but I can open most locks as fast as a key including spool and serrated pins.
As a locksmith I can tell you there’s not many Bills and Lockpicking Lawyers out there.. don’t worry about that. If you get broken in I can be 99% sure it won’t be from a picked Lock. Remember Locks just keep honest people honest. Someone that breaks in will almost always use some form of forced entry.

I use a pick gun very frequently, It is my go to pick for speed. To a locksmith, time is money. I have the Loc aid gun and it seems to do pretty good. The pick on the end that you used did seem very flimsy for sure. If I were to buy one, I would replace the pick asap. I have only broken 2 picks in my 3 years of locksmithing, and one of those was when I dropped the pick gun. Seemed to work though, a large portion of the locks out there are the cheapie kwikset, and this will handle it just fine it looks like. good review as always
They have updated the design of this tool on the linked url. The gun now specifies on the side "pick up" or "pick down", and "high-low" on the adjustment wheel. Thanks for another informative post. keep on pickin' and grinnin'.

Lol this was the tool that got me into lock-picking. My snap gun opened loads of locks even ones with security pins. I made my own pick blades longer ones. Then I would put the blade in the lock at a slant then snap fast with very light tension. My one was upwards so I turned it upside down for bottom pins. Anyways great video brings back memory's thanks again 😊

I haven’t seen one of these since I was a kid. My grandpa was a locksmith and he had these around. I used to get into things here and there as a young’n. They are finicky, but do work more often than not.
As a locksmith i carry I huge amount of tools with me to a lock out but i always carry my snap gun its basically bumping but you can control the tension better in my opinion. Ive gone from the pick gun you have to my sparrows double tap. Its better i believe due to that ithe blade up at an even horizontal plain and not at a pivot where you could be hitting the fist to pins or the last to pins the majority of the time. When I was trained I was told the the angle picks were for when the key way was upside down
You should get the Goso electric one. It's like 30$. It actually works amazing. And because it's so fast it really just vibrates shit open so quickly. I've been able to get into a lot of stuff with it. I'm a pentester, so I need to keep my physical intrusion skills almost as tight as my network intrusion skills. I have to say your channel is one of only a few that I've found to be pretty damn helpful on a few occasions when researching a lock or method I've never seen or used before. I'm working with the cops and head of security for my college right now to run a small pentest, one of our regular officers is retiring from the force and taking the chief of security position, and when I took him though all of the vulnerabilities I've discovered working and studying there he was absolutely floored. Of particular worry was the ease with which I was able to sniff our RFID cards from a distance and clone them to show how access could be gained to our server room or just about any of the secured areas on campus. Blew his mind. We also have a bunch of toner in some cabinets that can be picked in like 5 seconds by hand. And the door to our server room has a security lock on it, but was installed incorrectly so you can shim it with a credit card. (that last one was fixed after I recorded a video of myself doing it to show how easy it was and sent it to our bosses letting them know about it. Definitely won me some MAJOR brownie points with the CISO at our Systems Office in the state capital.) So those of you that are doing this as a hobby, keep your eyes peeled for physical security holes at your work places. Always get permission before attempting anything, but if you do find and demonstrate a security flaw it can potentially save your company huge amounts of money in prevented theft, tampering, and prevent potential operational impacts. I guarantee your bosses will take note and love it, because then it makes them look good too... Unless they're terrible; Luckily I have some great bosses. Anyway, good luck. Keep your eyes peeled, always try to think about how to attack things outside the box. Use your powers for good. Or at least keep it in the grey area. Keep your white/grey hats on.

I used one back in the early 1970's. I didn't hold constant pressure on the tension tool. Only when I snapped the gun I would time the pressure to coincide with the pins separating. Worked for me.

I have almost 0 experience. I picked open a master lock with a rake in 2 seconds flat. I thought I could trust master. But nope, simple raking got it open shame.
Great review. 👏 I bought one of those exact same guns a couple of months ago.. My intention was to see if a snap gun works, and is worth having. It does work, and like you, I had no prior experience with snap guns. I will probably buy a name brand one in the future. Mine also came with no markings. Takes some skill to use properly, but works quickly, although noisily, on some locks.

I have a Klom 838-PG-K2 just pulled it out of the safe and hit and #No. 3 Master while watching your video (I like to play along at home :) .....In 9 odd months rarely have I used it with....and no success it's snaps down however turning the blade upside down and inserting it in the lock that way is how I have mimicked the "up" movement, Good to hear you have your's working I consider it novelty junk --> insert many excuses here
I’ve had an HPC pick gun for probably 40 years, I often use pick gun for several snaps, then continue with a half diamond, this works best for me when you have radical depths. Sometimes WD40 aid the picking if the locks weathered.

I would like to have seen exactly how this technique works, but that may be beyond the purpose of this video. I'll admit that I'm a rank amateur. I just want to know how this works.
Basically, instead of taking a pick and manually setting each of the pins, this tool snaps the bar upwards to knock all the pins at the same time, which, as seen, can knock all the pins to the sheer line, unlocking the lock. It doesn't necessarily seem to be an amazing tool, but it is cool and would work for basic or low security tumble locks.
@@thelogiikalone200 I think it’s a tool some lesser skilled locksmiths may use in lockedout situations, they’ll try this and if it doesn’t work, they’ll break the lock. If they took time to be as skilled as lockpicking lawyer, they’d probably never need it, but then they couldn’t charge the client to replace the lock.
I would just like to add that you dont need anymore room than it takes to insert the pick gun if it's a properly built model. It will still efficiently send the momentum of the spring to the pins. Reference Newtons Cradel.
I have one of these from a brand and they are LOUD, works on many locks. These are great if your bump keys don't fit in the keyway of the lock you are trying to open, does the exact same thing
I've actually have 1 of those same guns I bought over 10 years ago and I have to say that it is pretty effective on probably 80% of all the locks ive ever tried if I can't get something open with it then I just go back to regular lock picking but once I get this gun my range of skill went way up and to be honest with anyone reading this, I know he said the picks are weak and break too easily but ive only ever replaced my first set 1 time in over 10years and ive used this gun on hundreds of locks and was able to break into the deadbolt on my front door and just about every car I have ever tried it on it has worked with little to no time spent.
I have this pick gun and my only real complaint with it is, if you are not careful with your hand placement on the grip, you can very painfully pinch the skin on your finger between the top of the grip and bottom of the main unit. Other than that, it works pretty well for the price.
Have you used the snap gun to pre pick a lock? What I mean is that it could line up the easy stuff and let you focus on trouble spots potentially saving time.

I've watched about 10 videos from you, pretty randomly through different locktypes and the two or three banggood-sets you were reviewing. To be honest: are there any locks at all, that are safe to lockpicking? You make it seem so easy to open almost any lock that is out there wich is not only a real surprise but also a very big letdown for someone like me who wants to have his house and stuff secured by some locks.

I'm glad your doing reviews on the cheaper tools. I know sparrows and Peterson are good tools but beginners don't want to spend that kind of money on them. it's nice someone takes in consideration the newbies instead of just trying to promote the name brands all the time thank you. My question is, does the tension wheel just control how hard the tip strikes? not sure I understand how you control the amount of movement on the tip. Did you place the tip on the warding to keep it from going down to far?
Thanks. The wheel controls how far back the internal striker is pulled back before it is released. And I control the striking distance by placing the tip in the keyway and using warding.
one i never hear about much is one sold by lockpicks.com called "the martin pink electric lockpick gun"...who the hell is martin pink? lol....comes with a recharchable battery and a bulletproof aluminium case..its like 159.00 usd.its next to the southord pxs 500 and the klom electric gun, the klom has a rechargable battery as well , is a bit cheaper , the pxs500 has a lifetime warranty , they will rebuild it for free if you pay the postage , but i dont like the grip position on the southord , i do however think the way you hold it on the klom is the least awkward of them all
Your channel is always informative and interesting. If you do get an electric gun I recommend you try one with both a spring loaded circular style tension tool and a standard tension tool. The vibration of a the electric gun and the rapid motion make it quite a bit harder for me to maintain steady tension and get feedback from a standard tension wrench. YMMV.
@@sleepyheadz Actually there is a specialized shell for destructive lock removal called a "breaching load". Used properly it's relatively safe to the user and very effective. It's hardly known of outside of LE and Military circles but it does exist. If you happen across some (which is nigh-on impossible) don't try to use them without training, and positively don't try it with other loads or you'll be taking an ambulance ride right away...

sparrows has a little kit called the 'widget kit -- there is not one single video on the net of someone using it or reviewing it , i had mentioned this to them once and they said they would but still never have..ihave the kit myself , of course never really use ,but if you want to be the first at something nobodys done , thats one that i know of..
In the following generation at about this point in time. These locks will have become novelty and perhaps used as pranks or something. Like many of the earlier ones do today. Next level locks have yet to be seen here but I like watching in pass of time. This guy is pretty amazing I must say. Every time like butter.
People are always going to buy cheap locks and everything else cheap too, so this tool will remain effective for a long time. Only those who are aware of how bad cheap locks are buy good ones- the internet and reviews have helped that some, but as LPL shows us even recommended locks can almost always be opened one way or another. In all honesty I have cheap locks on my house because those who seek to gain entrance will just kick the door in or enter through a window regardless of the locks used so they are good enough. The locks on my workshop are better because they need to be.
They do require a certain amount of finesse. You are right, it is best to start with the minimum amount of snap and then slowly increase it as required. Bumping security pins requires a different approach in that you cannot apply tension first and then snap. Timing is a bitch though. As you say, modest bitting counts for a lot. Not that I use it ever, but the Sparrows double tap gun is pretty epic. Although it is a great tool, I currently use it as a dust collector. :)
Very nice review video :). Wow the tip bends really fast. But this tool might destroy the fun of lockpicking sport. If you want to get a lock open fast...okay, but you probably could have picked it, as doesn't work that good on security pins either. Surprised that you got the Winkhaus open, some models have an anti bump pin inside ;).
Thanks. The blade were a bit off the mark, but the rest seemed to work ok... on the lower end locks. Certainly not a substitute for picking. Also, the Winkhaus did have an anti bump pin!
Another amazing video. I have one but theres no instructions so i don't know how to put the end pieces in ( they just fall out when ive tried) or how much to roll the mechanism for tension at the back. Yes im completely new to this and have inly picked transparent locks so far
I love your videos. I have a question about the pick gun. Having watched you pick many, many locks I was foolish enough to think it was not that difficult and could be learned with practice. So far , I am not improving much but I do have one Chinese lock that I can now pick fast- compared to not being able to pick at all when I started. So, in using the pick gun, how much of your unique lock picking talent is being used and how much could a doofus like me expect to achieve with one? I know the basic concept of picking extremely well. I seem to have little talent. Much like someone who understands music but lacks the talent to actually play well. (Perhaps others here can answer my question , I know many of you are talented and have experience also) On a surprising note- I do find lock fiddling (I can't call what I do picking yet) to be lots of fun and actually relaxing.
Thanks. It's hard for me to answer the question... I was a complete novice with a pick gun. Never touched one before 48 hours ago. So with a bit of a learning curve, I seemed to have some success with it. Not sure how others will fare. I will say, however, that (like raking) using a tool like this strikes me as something that looks very easy, but does actually require some skill and practice... probably quite a bit of practice to get the most out of the tool. Good luck with your picking -- have fair that practice really does pay off!

Question. You talked about the different models being one that snaps up and snaps down for the difference of North American vs Euro locks. Why can't you just turn the gun upside down? Is the mechanism inside free floating one way or is it held in place by a spring or something?

Those are cheap picks. Every other pick I have used is 30 to 35 thousandths thick. Guns that use an angular impact are much harder to use well. One that impacts the pins simultaneously is preferred.
Always turn away from the latch/lock/wall. If you’re facing a door and the lock and handle are on the left side of the door, you would turn clockwise (ie away from the latch). If the lock and handle are on the right side of the door, you would turn counter-clockwise (ie away from the latch). It’s simple really once you understand that concept and how a lock works.

Yep. Security pins. Many standard kwikset door locks from Walmart or Home Depot can be opened with many various methods since they typically don't have security pins. Look up "bumping locks" "raking locks"
Kwikset locks and other low cost locks have loose tolerances and rarely have security pins (spool pins; mushroom pins; etc.) making them easier to pick open than better quality locks. Most European locks are of better quality than Kwiksets, have tighter tolerances, tighter keyways and could have more pin stacks as well as security pins. There are also several U.S. lock manufacturers making high quality lock cylinders that are difficult to pick/bump/snap open.
My experience with this tool is that it either works really quick and easy or you can use it as an assist to single pin picking not sure how to describe what I'm saying but I use the gun first kept the tension on then I went through tested checked each pin individually found each time I needed to do this that there was one that it just didn't want to work on but I was able to use the single pin technique to get that last stubborn one overall fairly decent product recommend getting the skills to do it without it

I use a pick gun very frequently, It is my go to pick for speed. To a locksmith, time is money. I have the Loc aid gun and it seems to do pretty good. The pick on the end that you used did seem very flimsy for sure. If I were to buy one, I would replace the pick asap. I have only broken 2 picks in my 3 years of locksmithing, and one of those was when I dropped the pick gun. Seemed to work though, a large portion of the locks out there are the cheapie kwikset, and this will handle it just fine it looks like. good review as always

Lol this was the tool that got me into lock-picking. My snap gun opened loads of locks even ones with security pins. I made my own pick blades longer ones. Then I would put the blade in the lock at a slant then snap fast with very light tension. My one was upwards so I turned it upside down for bottom pins. Anyways great video brings back memory's thanks again 😊

I haven’t seen one of these since I was a kid. My grandpa was a locksmith and he had these around. I used to get into things here and there as a young’n. They are finicky, but do work more often than not.

Just picked my first lock with just two metal rods, thanks to your videos.
As a locksmith i carry I huge amount of tools with me to a lock out but i always carry my snap gun its basically bumping but you can control the tension better in my opinion. Ive gone from the pick gun you have to my sparrows double tap. Its better i believe due to that ithe blade up at an even horizontal plain and not at a pivot where you could be hitting the fist to pins or the last to pins the majority of the time. When I was trained I was told the the angle picks were for when the key way was upside down
Almost bought one of those through eBay earlier, they're under $10 now including extra tips and tension wrenches.
You should get the Goso electric one. It's like 30$. It actually works amazing. And because it's so fast it really just vibrates shit open so quickly. I've been able to get into a lot of stuff with it.
I'm a pentester, so I need to keep my physical intrusion skills almost as tight as my network intrusion skills. I have to say your channel is one of only a few that I've found to be pretty damn helpful on a few occasions when researching a lock or method I've never seen or used before. I'm working with the cops and head of security for my college right now to run a small pentest, one of our regular officers is retiring from the force and taking the chief of security position, and when I took him though all of the vulnerabilities I've discovered working and studying there he was absolutely floored. Of particular worry was the ease with which I was able to sniff our RFID cards from a distance and clone them to show how access could be gained to our server room or just about any of the secured areas on campus. Blew his mind.
We also have a bunch of toner in some cabinets that can be picked in like 5 seconds by hand. And the door to our server room has a security lock on it, but was installed incorrectly so you can shim it with a credit card. (that last one was fixed after I recorded a video of myself doing it to show how easy it was and sent it to our bosses letting them know about it. Definitely won me some MAJOR brownie points with the CISO at our Systems Office in the state capital.)
So those of you that are doing this as a hobby, keep your eyes peeled for physical security holes at your work places.
Always get permission before attempting anything, but if you do find and demonstrate a security flaw it can potentially save your company huge amounts of money in prevented theft, tampering, and prevent potential operational impacts. I guarantee your bosses will take note and love it, because then it makes them look good too... Unless they're terrible; Luckily I have some great bosses.
Anyway, good luck. Keep your eyes peeled, always try to think about how to attack things outside the box.

I used one back in the early 1970's. I didn't hold constant pressure on the tension tool. Only when I snapped the gun I would time the pressure to coincide with the pins separating. Worked for me.

My pick gun is a Southord brand. It works alright. I've had more success opening Masterlocks than any other brand of padlock.

I have almost 0 experience. I picked open a master lock with a rake in 2 seconds flat. I thought I could trust master. But nope, simple raking got it open shame.

Great review. 👏 I bought one of those exact same guns a couple of months ago.. My intention was to see if a snap gun works, and is worth having. It does work, and like you, I had no prior experience with snap guns. I will probably buy a name brand one in the future. Mine also came with no markings.
Takes some skill to use properly, but works quickly, although noisily, on some locks.

I have a Klom 838-PG-K2 just pulled it out of the safe and hit and #No. 3 Master while watching your video (I like to play along at home :) .....In 9 odd months rarely have I used it with....and no success it's snaps down however turning the blade upside down and inserting it in the lock that way is how I have mimicked the "up" movement, Good to hear you have your's working I consider it novelty junk --> insert many excuses here

I’ve had an HPC pick gun for probably 40 years, I often use pick gun for several snaps, then continue with a half diamond, this works best for me when you have radical depths. Sometimes WD40 aid the picking if the locks weathered.

I've always wondered what the high frequency vibration would do to locks.
LPL in 2060: "Hey, today I'm testing the Apple Cyborg compatible automatic raking tool. I've found it not very effective compared to manual raking attacks, see when I insert it into this Masterlock, the lock explodes."
I would like to have seen exactly how this technique works, but that may be beyond the purpose of this video. I'll admit that I'm a rank amateur. I just want to know how this works.
Basically, instead of taking a pick and manually setting each of the pins, this tool snaps the bar upwards to knock all the pins at the same time, which, as seen, can knock all the pins to the sheer line, unlocking the lock. It doesn't necessarily seem to be an amazing tool, but it is cool and would work for basic or low security tumble locks.
Works a lot like a bump key. Same principal in my view
@@thelogiikalone200 I think it’s a tool some lesser skilled locksmiths may use in lockedout situations, they’ll try this and if it doesn’t work, they’ll break the lock. If they took time to be as skilled as lockpicking lawyer, they’d probably never need it, but then they couldn’t charge the client to replace the lock.
I would just like to add that you dont need anymore room than it takes to insert the pick gun if it's a properly built model. It will still efficiently send the momentum of the spring to the pins. Reference Newtons Cradel.
I have one of these from a brand and they are LOUD, works on many locks. These are great if your bump keys don't fit in the keyway of the lock you are trying to open, does the exact same thing

I've actually have 1 of those same guns I bought over 10 years ago and I have to say that it is pretty effective on probably 80% of all the locks ive ever tried if I can't get something open with it then I just go back to regular lock picking but once I get this gun my range of skill went way up and to be honest with anyone reading this, I know he said the picks are weak and break too easily but ive only ever replaced my first set 1 time in over 10years and ive used this gun on hundreds of locks and was able to break into the deadbolt on my front door and just about every car I have ever tried it on it has worked with little to no time spent.
I have this pick gun and my only real complaint with it is, if you are not careful with your hand placement on the grip, you can very painfully pinch the skin on your finger between the top of the grip and bottom of the main unit.
Other than that, it works pretty well for the price.
I wish more videos had this lighting. Lends a touch of the romantic to these hard utilitarian objects.
Have you used the snap gun to pre pick a lock? What I mean is that it could line up the easy stuff and let you focus on trouble spots potentially saving time.
I've stumbled upon your channel more or less by accident (you know... that place on youtube again ^^)... I'm from Germany, maybe thats why youtube recommended me an ABUS-video from you. I've watched about 10 videos from you, pretty randomly through different locktypes and the two or three banggood-sets you were reviewing.
To be honest: are there any locks at all, that are safe to lockpicking? You make it seem so easy to open almost any lock that is out there wich is not only a real surprise but also a very big letdown for someone like me who wants to have his house and stuff secured by some locks.

I'm glad your doing reviews on the cheaper tools. I know sparrows and Peterson are good tools but beginners don't want to spend that kind of money on them. it's nice someone takes in consideration the newbies instead of just trying to promote the name brands all the time thank you. My question is, does the tension wheel just control how hard the tip strikes? not sure I understand how you control the amount of movement on the tip. Did you place the tip on the warding to keep it from going down to far?
Thanks. The wheel controls how far back the internal striker is pulled back before it is released. And I control the striking distance by placing the tip in the keyway and using warding.

one i never hear about much is one sold by lockpicks.com called "the martin pink electric lockpick gun"...who the hell is martin pink? lol....comes with a recharchable battery and a bulletproof aluminium case..its like 159.00 usd.its next to the southord pxs 500 and the klom electric gun, the klom has a rechargable battery as well , is a bit cheaper , the pxs500 has a lifetime warranty , they will rebuild it for free if you pay the postage , but i dont like the grip position on the southord , i do however think the way you hold it on the klom is the least awkward of them all
Your channel is always informative and interesting. If you do get an electric gun I recommend you try one with both a spring loaded circular style tension tool and a standard tension tool. The vibration of a the electric gun and the rapid motion make it quite a bit harder for me to maintain steady tension and get feedback from a standard tension wrench. YMMV.

@@sleepyheadz Actually there is a specialized shell for destructive lock removal called a "breaching load". Used properly it's relatively safe to the user and very effective. It's hardly known of outside of LE and Military circles but it does exist. If you happen across some (which is nigh-on impossible) don't try to use them without training, and positively don't try it with other loads or you'll be taking an ambulance ride right away...

sparrows has a little kit called the 'widget kit -- there is not one single video on the net of someone using it or reviewing it , i had mentioned this to them once and they said they would but still never have..ihave the kit myself , of course never really use ,but if you want to be the first at something nobodys done , thats one that i know of..

In the following generation at about this point in time. These locks will have become novelty and perhaps used as pranks or something. Like many of the earlier ones do today. Next level locks have yet to be seen here but I like watching in pass of time. This guy is pretty amazing I must say. Every time like butter.
People are always going to buy cheap locks and everything else cheap too, so this tool will remain effective for a long time. Only those who are aware of how bad cheap locks are buy good ones- the internet and reviews have helped that some, but as LPL shows us even recommended locks can almost always be opened one way or another. In all honesty I have cheap locks on my house because those who seek to gain entrance will just kick the door in or enter through a window regardless of the locks used so they are good enough. The locks on my workshop are better because they need to be.
So basically it's about the same speed as raking.

They do require a certain amount of finesse. You are right, it is best to start with the minimum amount of snap and then slowly increase it as required. Bumping security pins requires a different approach in that you cannot apply tension first and then snap. Timing is a bitch though. As you say, modest bitting counts for a lot. Not that I use it ever, but the Sparrows double tap gun is pretty epic. Although it is a great tool, I currently use it as a dust collector. :)

Very nice review video :). Wow the tip bends really fast. But this tool might destroy the fun of lockpicking sport. If you want to get a lock open fast...okay, but you probably could have picked it, as doesn't work that good on security pins either. Surprised that you got the Winkhaus open, some models have an anti bump pin inside ;).
Thanks. The blade were a bit off the mark, but the rest seemed to work ok... on the lower end locks. Certainly not a substitute for picking. Also, the Winkhaus did have an anti bump pin!

Another amazing video. I have one but theres no instructions so i don't know how to put the end pieces in ( they just fall out when ive tried) or how much to roll the mechanism for tension at the back. Yes im completely new to this and have inly picked transparent locks so far
I love your videos. I have a question about the pick gun. Having watched you pick many, many locks I was foolish enough to think it was not that difficult and could be learned with practice. So far , I am not improving much but I do have one Chinese lock that I can now pick fast- compared to not being able to pick at all when I started.
So, in using the pick gun, how much of your unique lock picking talent is being used and how much could a doofus like me expect to achieve with one? I know the basic concept of picking extremely well. I seem to have little talent. Much like someone who understands music but lacks the talent to actually play well.
(Perhaps others here can answer my question , I know many of you are talented and have experience also)
On a surprising note- I do find lock fiddling (I can't call what I do picking yet) to be lots of fun and actually relaxing.
Thanks. It's hard for me to answer the question... I was a complete novice with a pick gun. Never touched one before 48 hours ago. So with a bit of a learning curve, I seemed to have some success with it. Not sure how others will fare. I will say, however, that (like raking) using a tool like this strikes me as something that looks very easy, but does actually require some skill and practice... probably quite a bit of practice to get the most out of the tool. Good luck with your picking -- have fair that practice really does pay off!

Question. You talked about the different models being one that snaps up and snaps down for the difference of North American vs Euro locks. Why can't you just turn the gun upside down? Is the mechanism inside free floating one way or is it held in place by a spring or something?
You can definitely turn it upside down... it's just a matter of getting the one that's oriented for the majority of the locks you will encounter.
LockPickingLawyer I guess it could be a bit awkward holding it upside-down if done repeatedly. Thank you for your reply and your reviews showing us that there are quality alternatives to some of the "brand name" tools.

Great vid. The biggest LOL was the Battalion lock giving you a hard time since most everything you have seemed to pick it effortlessly in your other video. :p
Those are cheap picks. Every other pick I have used is 30 to 35 thousandths thick.
Guns that use an angular impact are much harder to use well.
One that impacts the pins simultaneously is preferred.
Question most locks have clockwise rotation however i have come across locks with counterclockwise rotation how do you determine the rotation?
Always turn away from the latch/lock/wall. If you’re facing a door and the lock and handle are on the left side of the door, you would turn clockwise (ie away from the latch). If the lock and handle are on the right side of the door, you would turn counter-clockwise (ie away from the latch). It’s simple really once you understand that concept and how a lock works.

Yep. Security pins. Many standard kwikset door locks from Walmart or Home Depot can be opened with many various methods since they typically don't have security pins. Look up "bumping locks" "raking locks"
Kwikset locks and other low cost locks have loose tolerances and rarely have security pins (spool pins; mushroom pins; etc.) making them easier to pick open than better quality locks. Most European locks are of better quality than Kwiksets, have tighter tolerances, tighter keyways and could have more pin stacks as well as security pins. There are also several U.S. lock manufacturers making high quality lock cylinders that are difficult to pick/bump/snap open.
My experience with this tool is that it either works really quick and easy or you can use it as an assist to single pin picking not sure how to describe what I'm saying but I use the gun first kept the tension on then I went through tested checked each pin individually found each time I needed to do this that there was one that it just didn't want to work on but I was able to use the single pin technique to get that last stubborn one overall fairly decent product recommend getting the skills to do it without it
