India has lost its Iron Man...A car with a price of 1.5 lakhs for a middle class family...only Ratan Ji can do such innovative move in a cut throat market...Feeling so sad that couldn't meet such a legend person in my lifetime😔. The best remembrance to him would be getting inspired by Ratan Ji's life and helping the society..love u Ratan Uncle😘❤
I was working in Indica plant in 2002-03 in Pune, Ratan Tata sir came to the plant to Roll out the 200000th Indica, and had the privilege to see him from very close distance and listen to him
I sincerely appreciate Autocar India creating a video on this subject. In India, Sir Ratan Tata will always be remembered, and we owe him gratitude for the growth of our country and society.
Have owned 5 Tata cars so far, including Indica and Nano. Absolute gems. Thank you to the legend for making all of this possible. He will be sorely missed.
Indica Our First Car. I Still remember that rainy day in July 2000 when I a grade 1 student, took a bus ride with my dad uncle and granpa to Kochi, Kerala from Kollam to take delivery of the car that will change our life for many years. The silver Indica DLE was there for almost 8 years with us. Many memorable events took place and the car was part of our family. Many trips both domestic and inter-state, even had my first driving experience when i was little behind the wheels for a small 15 20 meters. I still miss that car. held special place in my heart even after many cars came to our garage after her. TATA INDICA always. To our Indica (KL 02 J 6924) and to the man who made all these possible... RIP RATAN sir.
Hi Rosh, We have a stone blue coloured indica (KL 02 P1699).I was 1 year when we bought Indica.I could relate your story with mine.I think tata had a dealership named benz motors back then.I also learnt driving in Indica and used to stand in the seat and observe vehicles outside at the age of 2. It is my Dad's first car and we have a special attachment with our Indica.
You guys missed to include Tata Sumo, might be the first SUV that maybe average middle class Indian owned or got into back when it had launched. Great tribute regardless. Ratan Tata will continue to live in our memories for not just his creation but also as a human🙏🏼
I was getting very emotional when seeing this video. It's so huge loss for India that we cannot believe how can it be. I remember when I was small kid, I saw the first Nano in silver color, and was so compact looking that I got attracted by the look of it. Just perfect car for small car buyer upgrading from two wheeler. I have also travelled so much in Indigo CS which happens to be our travel car and even travel agencies also love Indigo CS and was used for travel purpose, because it was efficient, practical and solidly build. I'm feeling bad that we never had a Tata Car, but we use the other edible products of Tata like tea, salt etc... Ratan Tata sir is a true legend, and will be in our hearts. And from now onwards, I will only go with Tata car when I will be looking for a car from my hard earned money, just because of the person behind this inherently successful brand image that he made. Will miss Ratan Tata sir very much, but will never forget the dedication he had for Indians.
I'm excited to share that I've been buying Autocar India magazine since its very first issue, right here from Thane! It's been an incredible journey following their insights and updates over the years.
Mr. Tata was above everything else a patriot who put India first & always acted with the greater good in mind, thank you Hormazd & Sergius for embellishing it beyond doubt, absolute gem of a tribute. Also if I may add, my 1st Car also was the exact same model shown in the interview i.e. the Indica DLE - 1999, had an astounding 1.6 Lakh KM run mostly trouble-free.
This is it....😊 A big Thanks to Team Autocar for listening to their audience. Yesterday itself I made a request in the comments section of Mahindra Thar Roxx Pod Cast to present some thing on Sir Ratan Tata's overall Motoring journey and Today we got this wonderful content from your stable. Again Thanks to Team Autocar and Hormozad Ji for addressing our request. 😊😊
I have been knowing Mr. Ratan Tata since 1998 and launch of first generation Tata Safari. I still remembered Mr. Sorabji's review of Tata Safari from January 1998 Auto India ( that reviewed car was silver color) and detailed about new Tata small car. That is how I inspired about him and his great uncle J.R.D Tata. Thank you Mr. Ratan Tata, you were a wonderful person and built everything for India. God Bless and miss you!!! 😢
My first car was Tiago (still own it), 2nd car Altroz (still own it) and now recently bought Tigor ev. All for the respect I carry for tata group and Ratan tata specifically. Fortunately Im very happy with all my 3 cars
there's this un-explainable pain about him being gone, I started my career at TCS and of course haven't met him... but feel like I owe him to hold atleast 1% of his values in my life..! clearly being a Parsi & fellow car lover, Mr Hormaz would've been close to him.. thanks for this tribute @autocarindia1.. maybe some day we get to see about his car collection!!! It's so strange to have feel this connection with someone you never met or known personally in this world!!
Kudos to autocar for this wonderful tribute to Mr. Tata! It was so wonderful to hear all the little back stories from behind the scenes. Perhaps this is the first time i felt a sense of personal loss when I heard the news. What a man, what a legend, never to be born agan. Such a simple and meaningful life well lived, truly a "Ratan" among all others. So proud of him to have given so much to the society. My first car was Indica DLG turbo and I loved it in spite of all its niggles. Thank you again Hormazd and team, for this timely episode, while we greave as a nation.! I am a nobody just a commoner and regret not having had the chance to meet Mr. Tata and seek his blessings.
Thank you Hormazd & Sergius! Loved and got mesmerised by all the stories and insights. It’s not less than honour and privilege to live in the era of Great Humans like Ratan Tata, APJ Abdul Kalam, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lata Mangeshkar, Ustad Bismillah Khan, etc.
We,every indian state have essential commodities reached to us because of Mr.Tata.Because every truck is about Tata and now we Indian have a luxury and fashioned cars because of him.I miss especially him.He contributed indian economy to so high.Rest in peace Mr.Ratan Ji.You will be always remember because when we departed with our friends and family,we always say....bye bye...tata
Even though I never got to meet hime but his business ideas and how did he revolutionize Tata Motors, Steel sector and even in Education sector is just sheer brilliance. Rest in Peace sirc😔💐.
Thank you Hormazd and Sergous for sharing this, a gem of an episode from autocar, I didn't realize it was 44 mins long (until i planned to write this comment after watching the whole episode). I own an Indigo GLS, which is still going strong and smooth. Gr8 to know that Hormazd owns an Indica. Also thanks for the clarification on the acquisition of JLR (and busting the myth). So nice of you to have celebrated the 25th anniversary of Indica with Ratan, the video was so special and the pics you have shared of Ratan and Indica. I didnt know about his love for car design and that Indica was designed abroad. I am clueless about why Tiago and Tigor are being neglected by the group on the design front, curv is just a nexon with a better back and a tall stance along with low head room (where as his philosophy of a roomy cabin is not implemented in curv). I didnt know about Ratan's contribution to Indian representation in F1! just amazing. A leader with empathy and vision - you are right that such versions are not manufactured any more.
India needs more industrialist and Ratan Tata is a true inspiration! Unfortunately all we are producing are app based conglomerates and unicorns, who barely have anything tangible to offer.
Thank you Mr. Hormazd for sharing these beautiful stories. You should write a book, we need leaders like Mr. Ratan Tata. We don’t have him any more, but his stories need to be shared.
Basically Ratan Tata is every bit of India, he is the vision, he is the culture, he stood for independence, he stood for future, he stood for what is right.
Can Tata Motors not bring back his legendary innovations like the Indica and Safari in Sir Ratan Tata's design aspects as a tribute to Sir Ratan Tata ...🥺💐
I deeply commend Autocar India for producing such a significant video. Sir Ratan Tata’s legacy is indelible in India, and we are eternally indebted to him for his monumental contributions to the advancement of our nation and the elevation of society. His influence will forever be a cornerstone of our progress.
Goodbye legend..You will be remembered across generations. As Indians we can work hard to cherish the dreams he saw for the bright future of our country..RIP Ratan...
Words are not enough to express the grief at the loss of one of our greatest gems Sir Ratan Tata. May his soul rest in peace. He truly made cars affordable to mass Indians after launching Indica otherwise both Maruti and Hyundai were extracting too much from Indian consumers for their 800, Zen and Santro which were being sold at the time of launch of Indica.
The true definition of a legend and philanthropist. Someone who helped design and bring his own cars to the market. I will never forget when he acquired JLR, that was all over the headlines. Got India its first seat in Formula 1 (2005) where Karthikeyan raced against Schumacher, Raikkonen, Alonso and other legends of the sport. As a child growing up in the 1990s I was always fascinated by the Sierra, Estate and Sumo models. First car I ever drove was my Uncle's navy blue Sumo and another Uncle of mine later went on to purchase a red Indica. So many fond memories of being in these cars. Rest in peace Ratan Tata 🙏
I have driven indigo gls and Tata nano automatic. Both vehicle spacious. Comfortable. My first car which I learn to drive bought with my hard earned money is 2nd hand indigo gls. Loved it.
Listening to these stories, made me so much emotional and also miss Sir RATAN Tata 😢😢😢🥺 I am so glad that he was an Indian and made India super proud!! Love for Ratan ji increased 💜
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. From 🇬🇧 uk. This is for my three treasures close to my heart- cars, India and my role model Ratan Tata. I am so thankful to you I can not express. I am certain RNT is watching from heaven with his trademark smile. Thank you once again
My father used to work in acgl Goa, was completely shocked by this news. He has Tata Engines from the 90s to this day, where dedicated bus chassis are built.
Thank you Ratan Tata sir for being such a true gentleman, what a powerful yet humble and a genuinely good human being... Your work ethic, personality ,service to the nation, people beyond words .. caring for the people and underprivileged.. What a Leader... Thankyou🌟 🌻🌺 🙏🏽 And Thankyou Auto India team for sharing this one... 🙏🏽
Hormazdji, I salute you too, for the grand and befitting tribute you paid to the finest of them all, dear Ratanji Tata. To live in the hearts of those who love you is to never die.
Thankyou team autocar, we felt we reconnected with him again, it is very emotional to loose a person like him. He delivered the dream of the every Indian car enthusiast. All of us Indian know that we owe him for fulfilling many dreams of India. That's why it feels like a personal loss for every Indian. Rest in Peace Shri Ratan Tata.
Guy's nice video and tribute to the legend. My father had purchased the Indica Zeta and later on Manza and both were great cars back in the day. The sense of space in both the cars was amazing. Personally I feel the Nano wasn't a flop. Ratan sir made a car for the families who rode bike's. There will never be another Ratan Tata. The man deserves a Bharat Ratna. So long legend.
Iam using NANO,a car with good practicality .Salute for the great man who was behind it and will be proud of you SIR..and for all your success.😢.will be remembered by generation yet to come also..
Thank You Hormazd for sharing your invaluable moments. It's these small things that are telling of a person's character rather than managed personas. Gem of a person whose greatness unified generations.
AutoCar ThankYou for this Video. Well! Feels like someone close to you has passed! His vision, his grit.. touched our lives in many ways. Personally I worked in Tata Communications as my first company. This Man was truly something more than a Man!!
Thanks for making this tribute to a great man who did so much for the nation…I was actually expecting some note or some mention in a video..good job guys..
There are entrepreneurs who are here to make a profit for share holders and there are industrialists who want every citizen to profit. Shri Ratan Tata was the industrialist who brought TML into the modern age.
Autocar team i really appreciate and thankful that you did this Video. Hormus ji and Renuka Ji i grew up seeing you both reviewing cars and all the best Ratan sir is the son of the Soil and that's why those whose don't know him personally is also crying. And yes it was a GentleMans gesture that u had to remove ur camera if it's his neighbours may face inconvenience. So my father-in-law is Tata Motors employee at Jamshedpur and in fact few other family members are from Tata divisions in Jamshedpur and we have the Nano. How practical the car we Indians didn't realise. And now I want to preserve that car. And only I drive the car when I go. Ratan Tata Sir we Indians and others too won't forget you. You are an Era.
Failure of Tata Nano is an injustice and insult for this brilliant man’s credible imagination and leadership. RIP Ratan Tata. Truly a Gem of a person
Si called failure of nano was the fuel and motivation of eventual success of tata motors
Even my 7 year old daughter was shocked and felt the loss when news came in।
I could understand. I think I was around 7. I saw a picture of him unveiling the indigo sedan, and my grandpa told me he's Ratan Tata.
India has lost its Iron Man...A car with a price of 1.5 lakhs for a middle class family...only Ratan Ji can do such innovative move in a cut throat market...Feeling so sad that couldn't meet such a legend person in my lifetime😔.

Legends never die 😢🙏 Ratan Tata will be remembered for ever.
Always for ever
What a gem he was 😢😢😢.
My friend still drives his Indigo Marina 1 owner vehicle. Fantastic space and comfort.
Others buy car based on Milage, looks, features etc but Tata owners buy it mainly because of Ratan Tata.
I'm excited to share that I've been buying Autocar India magazine since its very first issue, right here from Thane! It's been an incredible journey following their insights and updates over the years.
