Dear Sirish, Simply hats off! Having had the grossly underpowered diesel (nonturbo) V2 - of which I still have comical memories of trying to overtake a bus on a long downhill and still failing - to the petrol V2 to the Indigo Diesel to the Original 1lakh rupee nano to the Nano Gen2 to the NanoX to the Aria to the Nexon in present day - you just captured why a family like mine and so many million familes in India are still loyalist TATA afficianados... Cheers!
We had an Indica Xeta GLS which we bought new in 2008. And boy we fell for its Salsa red colour. It was a love at first sight moment for all of us. But that was all about it. The engine was lethargic, fit and finish was not even comparable to other vehicles in that price range. But what really stood out was the space inside and the comfortable ride due to the independent suspension. This was Tata's USP.
This is a mega labor of love. Over the holidays I spent days poring through all my old Overdrive tests of the Indica, dug out pics of my long term V2 that I’d taken on a road trip with my family, unearthed details and pics even id never seen before and more. This episode (an hour long! Thank you for your patience in advance!) even runs through the motorsport variants, none of which saw the light of day. I hope you enjoy the episode and if we’ve missed out on anything let us know in the comments.
Right from 53 bhp Taxi to 330 bhp track car, it is a display of Indica's true potential that too from a set of Indian Engineers Tata Indica - Gone but not Forgotten!
Amazing video, its a kind of history lesson in important section of tata cars and indian automobile industry. Also show the importance of cars like indica and vista in todays tatas cars
Sirish that was truly well researched and compiled with all the heart and hard work with passion i could sense in every part of the video. You are indeed the best automotive journalist of our times! Thanks for taking us back to the memory lane
I still have the first batch Indica, ofcourse well maintained so running as smooth day one... I have the 20 years old Indigo and 15 years old Indica Vista too, all running well even after 2 lakhs more odo readings respectively... And now 6 months old Tiago EV... already crossed 10,000 kms, going strong... hope to enjoy it to the fulliest... ❤
We had the first gen Indica, ours probably was the first one in our town, we were so impressed with it bought a second one, drove it for 55k odd kms, sold it bought zest, met with an accident and later bought nexon. INDICA is a name but "Kili Kili Kili" sound was an emotion.... ❤
As mentioned, the Nexon and Tiago are the grandchildren of the Vista and Indica, respectively. I'm proud to say they all have been a part of our family at some point in our lives. Thank you for bringing this episode and the nostalgia along with it ❤
And still tata using the same Diesel engine in Tata Nexon which they used in Indicas later versions 1.5L. And the present engine is more refined and more emissions prone.
I currently own a Indica Vista Tdi. Have owned it now for 14 years and just got it refreshed completely. The engine, suspension is still amazing and is still very adept at taking me on my journeys. Have completed 1 lac Thirteen thousand kilometers on it. Has been a great friend through these 14 years. Thank you Tata Motors and the Evo team for giving us a glimpse of the legacy of the Indica platform which spawned into so many products and eventually is powering the Nexon
From the earliest days with our first-generation Sumo and Indica, through the iterations like the Sumo Victa, Indica Vista, Tiago, and now the BS6 Altroz 1.5 Diesel, I've traversed the journey from childhood to adulthood. The sight of the (T) emblem in the middle of the steering wheel always evokes nostalgia for me. From being a child nestled on my father's lap during long drives in our Sumo to now embarking on extended journeys in my Altroz, each moment feels like coming home-safe and comfortable. I can vividly recall the distinctive sound of each engine and the nostalgic scent they carried, cherishing every memory made in those cars. Growing up with and continuing to drive Indian-made vehicles fills me with pride, knowing they are entirely indigenous. Despite the common perception that Tata cars lack reliability, our experience has been different. Perhaps it's because we understand how to care for them properly. Over the years, our Tata cars have collectively covered over 20 lakh kilometers, and not once have we been stranded due to a breakdown on the road.
@sirishch, your video on Indica is a masterpiece - a meticulously researched and beautifully curated journey through its chronology. Your unique touch made this endeavor truly extraordinary. Gratitude for your exceptional work!
I still recall that in 2012 when we were planning to buy a new vehicle we almost did get the indigo cs but then instead got the newly launched ford figo 1.4 tdci Never regret the decision of buying figo 1.4 because i have experienced tata indica enough as my uncle ( chacha ) owned it back then . Although indica was unreliable it still is close to my heart infact every old gem is close to my heart .
I asked Sirish sir Gone but not Forgotten on the Indica family on 23- August- 2022. Always wondered what's taking them so long to make the episode. But even though the wait was long it was worth everything as no one could have made such a brilliant dedicated video on the Indica family!!!
Had the nostalgic dreams of Indica during childhood when it was launched and pictured on magazines. Knowing my passion, my parents used to cut those car photos from magazines and newspapers and stick on our bedroom wall so that we as kids could be happy. My mom was a diehard fan of Indica and one bedroom wall was dedicated to Indica cutouts alone❤. 15 years later, in 2015, we bought Indica's last sibling BOLT, with a 1.2L Turbo Petrol (Revotron) Engine and driving it for 8 years now. Apart from the excellent drive quality, comfort and a reliable engine, it has rust issues, still we are paying lumbsome amounts for maintaining it as we share such a great sentiments to it❤❤❤❤
Indica v2 was my fathers first car. He bought it in 2001, and at that point of time, it was high on demand, and the waiting period was really high. i was in 1st standard then. My father was serving in the army, and we used to go to different places and travel to so many places. We kept that car for 13 yrs. Really good memories ❤
Same when everyone was buying Maruti 800 my Father bought the 2002 Indica V2 Lsi.....We would also travel many times but we slowly stopped our travelling in that car bcuz it would always leak radiator and overheat on highways thats why we used our Kaka's 2003 Santro for long distances until 2010 where we using Office's Indica diesel.....After my father's transfer in 2015 to Tripura we had to sell it.....I will try to find it once I am financially independent
We had a Xeta and then later we purchased the Manza. Very spacious and awesome cars for those times. Manza had some decent features then. I wish Tata had upgraded the Manza with new features. It would have packed a punch in today's sedan market giving competition to City, Ciaz. I still get nostalgic whenever I see one on the road today. Thanks team Evo for another nostalgic video.
Awsm nostalgic...on 10 januray 2024 my tata indica v2 diesel completed 20 good years and extended its registration for next 5 years🙂 .... good power ...awsm milage...
@@evoIndia Wasn't of driving age till the time we had the Indica V2 :( But I swear I could've driven it, that's how much I observed my dad driving! The Manza is probably driven more by me than by my father. Love it still! Feels so robust till date. I so wish Tata would make a full sized sedan (why not re-introduce a modern take on the Manza itself!?)
We had a 2005 Indica which was bought just because of my birth! I was not very much comfortable with hot environments when I was infant! that car had an AC which was pretty much decent! We had that car until 2017-2018 and didnt give much big issues. It was a V2 the GLS variant and OMG the silver color shined in our eyes. Fast Forward to this date we own a Nexon after trying a Baleno. IDK what but I do have a strong gut feeling towards TATA since my childhood. Loved the Video Nicely Directed and Written.
Being from Pune, we always see tata cars testing new car around city, so as we love tata cars. I see lots of old tata cars in Pune well maintained. Back in those days, it was excitement to watch geared to great challenge on TV. Watching cyrus mistry interview inside car on track. Tigor is coolest sub 4m sedan they have built which design is still not beatable, and I proudly own it. Wishing them a success ❤
Vista is a great car. We have been using it for 11 years now. It has clocked around 1 lakh kilometers. I haven't faced any major issues so far. The one issue we faced was with the thermostat. Replaced the clutch three times. Good car for the ghat roads. The instant torque delivery puts a smile on my face. The most interesting part is the steering. The way it re-centers.. mmmmmm... unfortunately, manufacturers don't make such beautiful steering nowadays. A light off-road can be done thanks to its ground clearance. I have no thoughts of selling my car any day. The 1.2, 1.6 MJDs were gems at that time. The MJDs have proved their reliability in the cab avatars. Spending around 7-8k makes the car run effortlessly for the entire year. Thanks for the video, Team evoINDIA.
I see @evoIndia scaling new heights in Auto Journalism Industry with GBNF series. Absolutely amazing and heart whelming content for the Auto Enthusiasts.
This car was dope we owned a 2000 model indica my child hood love ❣️ Due to spare parts issue it's no more ❤️ Scraped last month due to registration issue 🥺
Hey Sirish, I learnt to drive on an Indica itself and later went ahead to buy an Indigo. Ican very well remember the fan belt squeaking of both Indica as well as Indigo. Used the Indigo for 5 years and then bought a diesel Fiat Linea. As you rightly mentioned this really was a gem of an engine although the Linea always felt underpowered as against it's rivals Rapid and Vento. I always felt that Linea's example as a Tiger with a heart of a cat. I later switched from a Linea to a diesel XUV700. But thanks a lot for taking me back in the memory lane. I have been following this series of "Gone but not forgotten" series from the very first episode. Cheers!
Thank you for making such a detailed video on these forgotten cars and sharing them with others,it reminded me of my Marina which I had for almost 17 years
Indica has a special place in my heart. He has been with us since 2003.He gifted so much childhood trip memories. It's my dad's first car and he has been caring him well from day 1(Jan 13,2003) with proper maintenance. Our Indica DLE 2003 has done 93k on odometer and is still fresh. Driving the Indica always gives a solid feel. I learnt driving in our Indica 3 years back when I turned 19. Indica is like a family member for us. The stone blue shade gives a special appeal for Indica with the stock wheel caps. He is a trustful travel companion.
Our family is using tata since 1998. Indica we had one of the first in our city. That time tata dealership was not in our city. We drove that around 4 lakh kilometre, next we drove around 3.5 lakh kilometres and we bought the vista we drove around 6 lakh kilometres. Indica dicor also we owned that car was ahead of time we drove that around 4 lakh kilometres. Now we have nexon. It is very good car tata has gone up so much now. Thank you for bringing the memories back of indica.
We had Indigo DiCOR and I still remember how my Papa just wanted to get rid of 1997 Maruti 800 DX. He really aspired for a Diesel car in home, pushing up the budget (as set by Mummy obviously) from a Chevy Spark LT to a Indica DLX then to a Indica DLG Turbo to a Indica DLG DiCOR then to a Indigo V series then finally to a Indigo LX TDi and then abruptly changing his mind (after having test driven the TDi and DiCOR engines back to back for 3 times) for Indigo LS DiCOR at the delivery day! God I still miss my Mica Grey 2007 Indigo LS DiCOR Facelift (OR 15 L 9003).♥️
Great efforts by Evo India and Mr. Sirish Chandran in bringing out the story behind TATA Indica - India's first indigenous passenger vehicle. This video was absolutely fantastic and made me proud that I had travelled in the Indica many times when availing cab service. This car gave a overall blend of good performance, comfort well that too in an affordable budget. Waiting to see more nostalgic content like these😊❤!
Indica was our first car in the family and we drove it for 4 years. In those years we had a cassette stereo and we used collect many song cassettes. What a great memories with this car... !!!!!
What a nostalgic episode this was. The Indica has always been near to my heart. It was our first ever car. We had the Indicab version of the car my dad bought in an attempt for a side hustle in the travels business. It was a diesel and man it used to vibrate at idle..! although I was so fond of that vibrations haha. I remember those days when we used to go out for a drive at night and I used to play Red FM 93.5 in the car and listen to the hits at the time. This one time we had a summer vacation computer course in our school in Dadar and this one my dad decided to drop me at school in our car but we ended up missing the whole session because we simply wouldn't get space to park hahaha. Then I remember my first road trip to Vajreshwari and we Managed to fit 4 adults and 3 children plus a driver in the car..! It was crazy..! Eventually my father gave up on that side hustle and we had to let go our beloved Indicab as it was showing some issues being a diesel and not having much running. Thank you EVO for bringing those memories back. Thank you for covering this..! Gone but definitely not forgotten.. :)
The first memory I had of Indica was going to the Tata Showroom here in Kolkata in the year of 2004. My parents took me to buy their 2nd car after Ambassador. The first thing that I said after seeing the Indica was, "oh my god, what a hideous looking car." That's it. We went to Maruti showroom and bought Alto after that, which ran for about 5lacs km (499992 to be exact) in the next 12 years without any kind of trouble. I still think that was the greatest decision ever.
My Dad's (our) first car was this exact 2003 Indica V2 DLE Base Model with black bumpers, the only luxury feature it had in it was an AC which worked very well, he used it for 11 years until 2014 and drove it for 2.5 Lac kms, my mom still says that the space and airy feel of Indica is unmatched and yes it was super reliable never ever had any major issues and as it was base model so it had very less electronics to fail 😊 such a nostalgic feeling watching this video (currently I have 2020 Altroz Diesel) and I can proudly say that I'm a loyal Tata Fan (not the andhbhakt types though 😂)
@@sirishch Yes I know and people say they are unreliable I mean you maintain it and it keeps on running sure you get few small issues which are ok given it's running and age 😇
Indica GLS Xeta is the first car I drive. I learned driving in a tractor (475di) & the switching was bit hard because the hood wasn't visible at all. The car is 06, changed 3 owners now & still going good. This series (GBNF) is always 🔥hour well spent thanks to Evo India & Mr. Sirish.
I was really waiting for this episode to come out for the past 4 months as this episode brings back a whole bunch of nostalgia to me , growing up I had seen my parents and grandparents to own indicas and indigos and my childhood had went in those indigenous cars of India and felt soo nostalgic to see all these cars back on road and in a running and great condition bonkers to you guys bonkers to evo India 🫡
I still remember those days when I used to buy overdrive magazines from market and I used to read them thoroughly. I still remember your indigo xl first drive story. I used to wonder how they can pull off rear wheel. Nostalgia kicked in ❤
We got our first ever car on august 8, 2008 (8/8/08) (ironically) and it was the indica... we sold it in 2023. We did 83 k kilometers in that car. Ooty, waynad, goa, coorg, pondycherry, kochi and just 5 out of 20-25 trips we did in that car. It was an emotion. the day we sold it (as we got a scorpio N napoli black z8l 4x4 manual , In our colony, there was no parking left for basanti. (YES, its the name of the indica V2) ... I still miss her and always will. Nothing matches tha pain of selling your first ever car. God will i miss u...
We own a tata indigo cs, people tell that tata cars are less reliable, but we never faced major issues and it never stopped us in middle of the journey, lots of memories with this car we may buy new cars but cannot forget the moments in this, thank you so much for making this, no one really cares about these icons but kudos for your research and clearly explain every thing about this ❤❤
A legendary vehicle reviewed by a legendary Auto journalist! Kudos to the Evo india team, this review is a love letter to Indian car enthusiasts of old!
Owner of a 2008 vista quadrajet here, bought it used, it was an unexpected purchase, my original target was a figo diesel, odo was 107000, tampered ofcourse, car was super abused by the previous owner, yet the car was super dependable, great milage, comfortable.. Vista deserved more appreciation, now its under restoration, it is going to live a long happy life with me.. And Kudos to you team, this video is a gem😇
My dad also had this first gen indica he used to travel long hours daily in that car and had taken that car to 3.5 lakh kms ❤ once it got broke so he took the car to mechanic and mechanic was shocked when he saw the reading of the odometer and then the car condition That was our first car ❤❤
What a beautiful episode. Best time travel experience. We had indica v2, Indica turbo. Safari dicor. Currently still using vista and Grandchild Nexon . We have seen the tata cars improving over decades. These have been always holding a special emotional connect. Looking at current generation Tata cars it's a proud moment to look forward as a Tata Fan . Thank you Sirish Sir for the nostalgic experience.
Hi, Channel and host Sirish Chandran, A history revisited, fabously narrated, so vividly and expansive. Yes, TATA Indica changed the landscape of Indian automobile industry, as was changed by Maruti 800. Subsecuently, Indica variant as Indica V2, Indigo sedan, Indigo Marina, the Estate version, our family car, the most favorite, Indigo Manza, still owning, as it is from the last batch, then Indigo Bolt, Indigo Zest. TATA Indigo Manza Aura + specs with 1.3L Quadrajet Diesel Engine, big in space, comfort style and massive trunk space, ran almost 1.2 Lakh KM, without any fuss. I'm a proud owner, among many afficandos of TATA. Complete worth and value of money. Looking forward to Channel.
My dad had an indica , bought on the same year i was born so it was very emotional for my dad to sell it few years back , So many memories we travelled so many kms beautiful episode keep it up!!
Hi i am from vijayawada. We are still using indica dls v2 2006 model. Booked curvv really emotional to let it go. So, many memories with indica. Drove just 45000. Still looks like a new car. Well maintained by us. I wish indica again comes back in new avatar.
I had a vista d90 purchased on 1st September 2013, it was with me till 2021 Aug. I love it. I drove 1. 14L kms even though with 1 year covid and one year I was outside India. My mother still miss the seating comfort of that. Many people rose eye brows when I bought in 2013 but honestly I never regretted ❤
3 lac at that time . Gold price was 4500 around . Now gold price is 65k around = 65000/4500×3 lac = 43 lac ~ 40 lac today inflated price . It means it was around 40 lac at that time so many people were unable to afford a car . That time splendor was popular and everyone purchased bike only price was around 50k . Today's adjusted price is 7 lac . No wonder why average car buying in India is 6.5 lac .
Our first car was Indica Vista quadrajet , we have lots of memories with Indica you know that was like our first love although we sold our vista but the soft corner in my heart is always there❤️ miss you my dhanno lots of love ☺️❣️
My father had an Indigo Marina in a teal blue colour. It was immaculately maintained by our driver. We absoultely loved that car to bits. Its a shame that we dont have estates in India any longer.
The Indica was our first Diesel car in the family… I just can’t forget those days… It was a wonderful car… We went so many long road trips and the car was impressive in highways and the hills😍🤩…
A superb one, Sirish....though never an Indica owner, it was often an Indica cab that took us to meetings in Mumbai over the years, till Toyota Etios and Maruti Dezires took over..it was a huge and steep and troubled learning curve, for Tata for sure..as explained to me by people who had garages working on them, the packaging of the engine compartment, when compared to the easy-to-work-on Japanese ones, was an example of torturous complexity, to do a clutch replacement, you could apparently only access it those days by almost dismantling a lot of the front assemblies...and that joke, taking off from the Amitabh line"Jahan hum khade hotey hai, line wahin se shuru hoti hai", well, that was adapted for the over worked Indica cabs, which only replaced the word "khade" with "breakdown", explaining long backup traffic jams on narrow roads, ( more a consequence of poor maintenance than specific inherent inadequacies)... having said that, in all fairness, it was the Indica cabs which were the wheels that drove the BPO revolution in Pune, picking up and dropping employees all day and night, unimaginable to old Punekars...so a long story, with current cars being beautifully built, hopefully niggle free now, to a very large extent..
Saw them working on the Marina, for that replacement...a long process and lots of labour man hours time...possibly because of having to adapt the set up for the Multijet onboard...
I also remember the cab guys would switch off the AC as soon as you crossed the food mall and began climbing up the mumbai - pune expressway ghats. Not that it lacked power but convenient excuse to save one drop of diesel 😂🤦🏻♂️
About 9 years ago or maybe even more, there was some real bad thunderstorm in Kolkata, I remember. We were in a neighbor's Indica V2 DL variant. We went through about thigh level, not patches, STRETCHES! of water!! The car kept purring, even though the water seeped into 3 of the 4 footwells, the fan belt got louder but it didnt die on us. We stopped on a steep flyover hill to let the water seep out and it did! The car would not let us get out and wade through water. The car just kept going through stretches where Zens, Esteems and Santros were out and being pushed by their owners. At one point the rear started floating as well because an asshole bus driver powered through instead of going slow. Massive respect and a soft spot for all Indicas all around. And i absolutely agree what Sirish is talking about the Meter binnacle or instrument cluster. The V2 diesels had black background and red transparent needles. I havent found any cooler needles to date.
Thank you for this special video. These batches of cars are really emotion. I still regularly drive TATA VISTA AURA SAFIRE (P). Along with it have a TIGOR. And the VISTA is so nicely running at its 1L KM+ drive age. I bought it in 2009.
My maternal grandfather bought an indica v2 diesel back in 2002, and that car looked like a sports car in the remote village he lived in, my grandfather had a marshal and a Sierra prior to the indica, and driving the indica after driving those massive ladder on frame suv's felt so smooth, it looked much more luxury than the maruti cars sold back in the day, and it was a superb millage machine!!!!! Still when i look back at the memories we made in that car brings a smile on my face!!!! 😊😇
Hi Shirish, Indica has a special place in my heart. My dad ( who passed away 12 years back) had the first version ( Before V2 version) 2000 model and it was his daily driver. we had an amby before and we felt the same space in Indica also. we had this for almost 10 years and clocked about 1 lakh kilometers. in the mean time for about 2 years we also bought one IndiCab for our fleet business in 2004 with round tail lights. we had once almost 6 adults and 1 child for a 300 kms drive and all were very happy. with its niggles and perinial fan belt sound after the car wash or cold starts we loved the car and still lot of memories which I personally think of my dad. Even before the GNCAP tests, those days India was strongly built ( Although rust prone) and was heavy. The AC was a chiller and the sweeping dash board design also felt luxury.
We have nexon in Home and I know its from the same platform, this platform made first 5* car of india. This is a legend car. It had Safety back in 2005 for Europe.
as an Indonesian, I have never seen it personally, but I know Tata as a brand as a kid after seeing this in a car catalogue magazine. Jag & Land Rover should thank this car for saving their company!
Our family's first car was also the indica v2 DLE obviously after my grandfather's Jeep. My father bought it from one of his friends in 2005 who managed to tear the driver rear door in 2 pieces while trying to park it in his garage and told my father that he thought it's the end of driving for him and definately after a good bargain and a torn driver rear door my father took it. I was just 2 years old when the car was brought to us. What a happy day it would have been. Sold it in 2016 after driving it for 11 years😢. I and even my father still miss it as so many memories are attached. As you said the indica never let us stranded.❤
Watching this video all those memories from my college days came alive when we used to do local and highway trips in the indica diesel (non turbo) but that car felt damn comfortable on long drives. Can you'll features those Amazing honda cars from 2000's era when CRV,Accord, city,Civic were stars of their time. Moreover please do these series regularly it brings back those days.
We had a 1999 model blue color and hideous grey bumper Indica I was in 4th standard when my uncle bought the car. I learned driving on that Indica with no power steering or power windows, but I remember we had a Blaupunkt stereo. Later we colored it white and then sold off, but good memories. But never bought a TATA after that car, have had Skoda, VW, Volvo Chevrolet, Hyundia. Until 2 months back when we bought a TATA Tiago EV. life has come full circle.
Indica name is gone... But its platform XM0 and XM1 are still there in from Tiago Tigor and Nexon between us.. Hats off Shri Ratan Tata Sir that he always gave preference to safety of cars even when safety was not a USP of any car..
I can never forget the indica considering the amount of times it left me stranded and when the brakes failed on the highway, i sold it thereafter and never ever stepped into a TATA showroom thereafter. This is a 2008-9 story.
Our first ever car was a Tata Indica DLE bought in 2003. After that we had bought another Indica in 2005. Then we exchanged it for the new Indigo LS in 2008 during its launch month itself. We then also bought a Zest in 2014 end. This was our first full option purchase. Then we exchanged the Indigo for the newly launched Tiago in 2016. Then we exchanged the Zest for Altroz in 2022 and finally exchanged the Tiago for Tiago EV in 2023. Looking back at 2 decades with Tata cars, we have never had any serious issue with any of the cars and always recommend Tata cars to anyone who have asked me. My Tata ❤️
Had a 2007 Indica Xeta Petrol, realised it's potential after selling it... minimum maintenance and no need to worry for the kind of road... anywhere it could go..
In 2006, my dad bought a Grey Tata Indigo LX TDI as our family runabout. Have so many memories with the car, we drove it like crazy within Kolkata and also took it to Puri and Murshidabad on numerous occasions. But the most cherished memory is of me missing the school bus, and my dad having to drive me to school, scolding me all the way! Little did he know, I intentionally missed the bus to spend some time with him and drive up to the school gate in a "big" car, making my friends envious! It was also the first car in my family to cross the 1,00,000 KM mark. It stayed loyal to us till 2015 when we decided to say goodbye!
We had a indigo ecs in our family it was a diesel one the one with the 1.4 dicor engine . We have a lot of memories with that car , it was with us for a really long time about 11 yrs. It wasn't particularly a reliable car from the start but serious issues started to plague the car such as broken timing chains etc so we sold it about 2 yrs ago . But still a great car 👍
It's not just a car but a lifetime of a memories we had a 2004 indica in blue and my dad gave itto me that when i turned 19 and it is the best car i'll ever drive i had so many adventures took it off roading ,to college, drove it with water and mud in the coolant and it never broke down. THE BEST CAR EVER FOR ME. wish i never sold it
Let’s hear your memories of the Tata Indica? Share it in the comments
V2 - my first long term test car. Also the Indica was the first rally car I drove on a rally, Double-0 safety car on the Nashik rally
Please sirish do this gone but not forgotten series on regular intervals and still waiting for an episode on maruti Omni and esteem Baleno sedan SX4.
It's still live with me & is in running condition.
As mentioned, the Nexon and Tiago are the grandchildren of the Vista and Indica, respectively. I'm proud to say they all have been a part of our family at some point in our lives. Thank you for bringing this episode and the nostalgia along with it ❤
We're glad you loved it Shaan!
Glad you enjoyed the video
Altroz* & Bolt are successors of Indica, don't know about Tiago.
And still tata using the same Diesel engine in Tata Nexon which they used in Indicas later versions 1.5L.
And the present engine is more refined and more emissions prone.
@@johndavidson3424 Tiago is a successor of nano
I currently own a Indica Vista Tdi. Have owned it now for 14 years and just got it refreshed completely. The engine, suspension is still amazing and is still very adept at taking me on my journeys. Have completed 1 lac Thirteen thousand kilometers on it. Has been a great friend through these 14 years. Thank you Tata Motors and the Evo team for giving us a glimpse of the legacy of the Indica platform which spawned into so many products and eventually is powering the Nexon
My vista is 12 years old too, what did you do as a refresh?
Dad owned a Indica vista and after 12 years I own a Tata Tiago which I am very happy 😃
Awesome!
This is now the most definitive video about Indica's history. Kudos to the hardwork 😊
Glad you liked it!
Still I am a proud owner of 2007 DLE and no one still come closer when we ride..... it's pure pleasure 214000 and still roaring❤❤
Oh that's just epic!
8hrs from Mysore to Ponda via hubli on Indica V2 Turbo DLG is one of my finest memories of this car.
@sirishch, your video on Indica is a masterpiece - a meticulously researched and beautifully curated journey through its chronology. Your unique touch made this endeavor truly extraordinary. Gratitude for your exceptional work!
Thank you Sourabh!
Thank you for the kind words
I still recall that in 2012 when we were planning to buy a new vehicle we almost did get the indigo cs but then instead got the newly launched ford figo 1.4 tdci
Never regret the decision of buying figo 1.4 because i have experienced tata indica enough as my uncle ( chacha ) owned it back then .
Although indica was unreliable it still is close to my heart infact every old gem is close to my heart .
I have vista in family since 2011 , runs smoothly even after 1.34 lakh kilometres
That's amazing!
My father had owned both indica & v2..now we owns zest & bolt.INDICA IS NOT A CAR ITS A EMOTION❤
An emotion!
I asked Sirish sir Gone but not Forgotten on the Indica family on 23- August- 2022. Always wondered what's taking them so long to make the episode. But even though the wait was long it was worth everything as no one could have made such a brilliant dedicated video on the Indica family!!!
It shouldn’t have taken so long but glad with the way it finally turned out!
That's epic Shashank!
I also did many road trips in my V2 long termer, fond memories. wish it had more power though
I have indica vista 2011 model.
Still running diesel varient with 24 km milage per litre.
Thanks TATA.
PROUD TO BE AN INDICA OWNER.
Oh that's amazing! Here's to 5 more years of fun with the Indica!
@@evoIndia thanks.....its January 2004 model ...highway milage on Ac is 22-23 km/ltr....still running perfectly. ❤️
The one I was looking for!
My dad owned a 2002 V2 and then a 2010 Manza (that we have till today)
Oh wow! We would love to hear your experiences!
We hope you like this one!
Bought a 2005 Tata Indica V2 DLS last year and feels solid and safe compare to certain todays cars And about problems well u will get used to it.
Hey congrats, Pramodh!
Hey, thanks for sharing that with us!
Thanks for sharing your story with us! And we 're glad you enjoyed this!
The Vista, even today, feels so solid and rugged. strong car. and the diesel is excellent

Thank You for making this video, this had been an old request of mine in one of the 'Gone But Not Forgotten' videos.
We took time but hope it’s worth the wait
Cheers!
But all said and done that 1.3 diesel engine was something else. Linea needed the 1.6 … if only fiat had brought that to India
@@sirishch Maruti S Cross diesel initially had a 1.6 Litre engine which I guess was Fiat sourced. That should had been in Linea from day1.
Thank you for making such a detailed video on these forgotten cars and sharing them with others,it reminded me of my Marina which I had for almost 17 years
Happy to see Indica it was our first car Indica v2 Always loved it so many memories with Indica V2 Thanks for sharing and Refreshing my Old memories ❤

Love the series. My father's first car was vista petrol first gen and i have many childhood memories which I still cherish to this day.
Awesome
My first car - in a gorgeous greyish blue colour. Gave it away to a dear friend. Loved it and now it's getting still more love from my friend.

You won't have to wait for long now
We had Indigo DiCOR and I still remember how my Papa just wanted to get rid of 1997 Maruti 800 DX.
Such great memories! Thank you for sharing
And very comfy seats which made it great to be driven around in
Indica was our first car in the family and we drove it for 4 years. In those years we had a cassette stereo and we used collect many song cassettes. What a great memories with this car... !!!!!
Blue Marina looked stunning
I owned an Indica DLG .. I once travelled at 130 kmph with 5 people in the car ... Liked it so much
I am using Indica since 2004. It has clocked 250000km, still running healthy. Diesel highway milage 21km/ltr.
2.5 lakh! Wow
Myne 3 lakh with 24 kmpl
The first memory I had of Indica was going to the Tata Showroom here in Kolkata in the year of 2004. My parents took me to buy their 2nd car after Ambassador. The first thing that I said after seeing the Indica was, "oh my god, what a hideous looking car." That's it. We went to Maruti showroom and bought Alto after that, which ran for about 5lacs km (499992 to be exact) in the next 12 years without any kind of trouble. I still think that was the greatest decision ever.
😂😂😂😂
Epic stuff! We wish you many happy miles with the Altroz!

Hi, Channel and host Sirish Chandran,
A history revisited, fabously narrated, so vividly and expansive.
Thank you for the appreciation

So true!
Now gold price is 65k around
= 65000/4500×3 lac
= 43 lac ~ 40 lac today inflated price .
It means it was around 40 lac at that time so many people were unable to afford a car .
That time splendor was popular and everyone purchased bike only price was around 50k . Today's adjusted price is 7 lac .
No wonder why average car buying in India is 6.5 lac .
That’s some maths man!
Our first car was Indica Vista quadrajet , we have lots of memories with Indica you know that was like our first love although we sold our vista but the soft corner in my heart is always there❤️ miss you my dhanno lots of love ☺️❣️

Now that's something many wouldn't know of. Thanks for sharing with us Ajay!
Saw them working on the Marina, for that replacement...a long process and lots of labour man hours time...possibly because of having to adapt the set up for the Multijet onboard...
When I was 7-8 years old (2005ish), I used to see one Indica every 15 seconds in Pune.. It had captured the roads
I also remember the cab guys would switch off the AC as soon as you crossed the food mall and began climbing up the mumbai - pune expressway ghats. Not that it lacked power but convenient excuse to save one drop of diesel 😂🤦🏻♂️
@@ajayadhiya2010marina didn’t get the multi jet. They never upgraded it to vista platform
I am so emotioonal rn. Thank you making this video. I had Indica & Indigo both of last gen bought in 2015. I miss them so much.
The Indica was an SUV at heart 😅
We are proud owner of Tata Indica DLS from last 14 years and we love our car so much.
Thank you for this special video. These batches of cars are really emotion. I still regularly drive TATA VISTA AURA SAFIRE (P). Along with it have a TIGOR. And the VISTA is so nicely running at its 1L KM+ drive age. I bought it in 2009.
That’s excellent
The AC was a chiller and the sweeping dash board design also felt luxury.
cars are an emotion, like a family member and evokes such fond memories.
Thank you for sharing that heartfelt story with us!
We have nexon in Home and I know its from the same platform, this platform made first 5* car of india. This is a legend car. It had Safety back in 2005 for Europe.
Mr Tata was a visionary, and it shows!
as an Indonesian, I have never seen it personally, but I know Tata as a brand as a kid after seeing this in a car catalogue magazine. Jag & Land Rover should thank this car for saving their company!
My dad owned indica xeta then and now proud owner of Nexon ❤❤

Oh no! Very disheartening.
Indica is my favourite car in my childhood ❤
Now I own Tata Nano & Punch... Proud Tata owner 😊
Hindsight….
Thanks for sharing your story with us!
I was waiting for this episode 😍
You won't have to wait for long now!
I learned to drive on the Indica v2 DLS, mastered driving the Indica Vista and now I have graduated to the Harrier.

THE BEST CAR EVER FOR ME. wish i never sold it
