    yo thank you for explaining the expansion system. I bought a cylinder polished coolant “overflow” tank from eBay then I made my own custom bracket to mount on the radiator support, it was an atmospheric vent I routed a hose down to the floor, my car would overheat when I would beat on it and I was 99% sure this was the problem but now you’ve confirmed it, only went with this route bc I wanted pretty polished parts but it bit my ass what would happen if instead of venting the coolant, I plugged the vent tube with a vacuum cap? would this cause too much pressure inside the cooling system? I actually did this when I first installed it for a month or so, but after one day of opening the cap from the coolant tank I felt all that pressure escape I told myself oh maybe I shouldn’t have capped it off let me vent it.

    Thank you so much for All of the rationale behind everything, the diagrams, the welding, etc. This video is extremely helpful for anyone building custom cooling setups on turbo AND/OR supercharged vehicles!

    Great video, but why not run two rad caps and header tanks.
    One in the back for the rad with overflow AND one in the front for the swirl tank at the engine and with overflow for that one as well?

    Good point with removing pressure when hot. Then putting pressure back in while still hot.
    I see many swirl pots that are just on the vent side. Special situation?

    I'm no expert, but this looks like a fantastic cooling system!

    Thanks Chris and Bryn that's a sick Header tank 4 bloody litres...

      we found an article that had recommendations for how big a header tank should be based on the total capacity of your coolant system and how much the coolant will expand, and using their maths this seemed to be about the right size so went with that

    Can you run 25/75 coolant water instead of using water wetter? Asking because I live in a colder climate

    Chris, who would you recommend to create an inter cooler? Trying to spurt one however they are obsolete now

    • @ChrisDrift
      @ChrisDrift  3 года назад +1

      if you're in the UK and wanting a custom intercooler made then I'd recommend IceFab run by Andy Frost. Good guy and much better at welding than me haha

    Why dont do the pathfinder cooling mod? Whys it terrible?

    • @ChrisDrift
      @ChrisDrift  2 года назад

      it just causes some minor annoyances without any actual benefit. The whole reason people think its a good idea is completely flawed. You'll see loads of forum threads and blog posts saying that without the pathfinder mod the coolant has no way to get from the rear cylinders up into the heads (because that's what the simplified coolant flow diagram in the service manual implies) but in reality when you actually take the engine apart you can see that the coolant goes straight up from the rear cylinders into the head just like it does with all the other cylinders. In fact the pathfinder mod literally just connects to the vertical channel that is on its way to the head from the rear cylinders.
      The only coolant leak I ever had was from doing the pathfinder mod, because it requires you to cut one of your coolant hard lines down which means you lose the lip on the edge where the rubber/silicone hose joins it, which is vital for a good seal. I ended up welding a little ridge onto it but even that was hit or miss whether it would seal nicely.

    Why reinvent the bike? Nissan 14075-2Y001:D:D:D

    • @ChrisDrift
      @ChrisDrift  3 года назад

      That's what we already had on there but it's an inlet not an outlet so it faces in to the engine. Unfortunately it's not symmetrical so you can't just turn it round to point where we want it to go
