Perfection
The sniffing in the suit got me.....
Actually one of the greatest games ever made, so sad this was overlooked because it truly is one of those unforgettable gaming experiences for me.
It wasn't overlooked. It was actively avoided because Bethesda forced Arkane to use the name Prey and then marketed as a reboot of the game Prey from 2006. Nobody liked that and avoided this game like the plague to teach Bethesda a lesson in shitty marketing.
@Black Dog not to mention there was a bounty hunter game that was shown off a few years earlier that this game was supposed to be but then was completely changed in favor of this generic horror game
@@Bl4ckD0g Should've called the game AfterShock or NeuroShock(which is the original title). Would've made a ton more money that way. Naming it Prey is one of the dumbest marketing decisions I've seen in my life, how can anyone be that dumb? Plus Prey doesn't even fit the game.
@@skaionex lol Prey isn't generic nor a horror game, have you even played it.
@@Bl4ckD0g better than prey 2006
Took me two tries to actually get into the game but once I did I couldnt let go, this game is honestly in my top 15 of best games ever, it's world and story is honestly so interesting and cool. Not to mention the awesome music by Mick Gordon.
never got to finish because my pc decided to break before my xbox gamepass ran out, so i was just sitting there with xbox gamepass not being able to use it.
mick gordon you say? now I gotta check it out again
@@4451-john you can probably find it on eBay or your nearest Game Stop tbh, it's definitely worth the money and it'll probably only be $20-$30 mb even $15. But it's definitely worth it
@@Kreppi Mick's music is amazing, his Doom stuff is really good, if you're into that kind of metal btw you should also check out it's new composer Andrew Hulshult. Mick also made the music for the new game Atomic Heart and it's also pretty good so check that out as well if you want.
@@emilianocastillejos1330 mick gorden will be a name i remember for life. that dude has produced some absolutely *stunning* scores. his world building through audio is unmatched.
Prey 2017 is genuinely one of the most incredible games I've ever played, fantastic gameplay that manages to even beat Bioshock 1 & 2 for me. It also has one of most "lived in" feeling worlds I've ever experienced in a game. Security Stations that have a list of every single person, their name, their job, their location and their vitals, that even lets you track down each person on the station individually. Snacks and garbage scattered across work spaces, an impromptu "office" in a stair well that was just a bunch of stacked boxes making a desk, and one detail a lot of games seem to miss: There's enough beds to actually account for every single person. All of these things just add up to Talos I genuinely feeling like a real place.
One of my favourite games of all time too, and mainly for the world-building as you pointed out. I think it's one of the best worlds created in a video game yet, just feels so lifelike and actually lived in. Being able to space walk outside of Talos 1 and see that every place inside the station lined up with its exterior was the icing on the cake.
@@taglion8795 almost every person on Talos has a bit of backstory or Cross mention in someone else's notes. Like a Game match, having an argument recorded, teashtalking behind their backs... In most cases its not "this is noc 1, npc 2, npc 3..."
In terms of gameplay I agree it beats bioshock, but in story no, at least not yet I'm still playing it
it's more System shock than Bioshock
Definitely needs a sequel. 💯
I'm surprised you made it this far without before finding shotgun and i realise now how much it helped me in my playthrough.
There’s one in the lobby
He's not even fixing his suits integrity, it's annoying as a big fan of the game but it's better than markipliers playthrough
@@annirudhjadhav9401 If you want good Prey playthrough, watch CohhCarnage playthrough from 2017, he even had interview with devs there
Not a game for impatient streamer types, really.
im just sad to make it to fucking Arbortem without the shotgun.
This game was great. It's greatest downfall was being named "Prey". Many people we're still bummed about Prey 2 being cancelled. Bethesda kinda just slapped the name on this game, which led to people writing it off. Their loss tho, the game ruled
We won't get a sequel because those dumbs at Microsoft shut down arcane studios.
Even the devs of this game hated that it was called Prey. They thought it was scummy and requested a different name but Bethesda refused
I wrote it off because of the name steal. But after seeing this video and since it was free on PlayStation a few months ago, I'll have to give it a try.
Honestly the naming of this game was a massive kick in the fucking teeth for Arkane Studio. It's the closest thing we ever got to a System Shock 3 and once I learned what it was after a few months of release I couldn't say no.
The entire game is a love letter to old school sci-fi shooters from the 90s and I was hooked from the first intro and reveal.
The original name was literally NeuroShock. The multiple levels in which Bethesda just hard-canceled this games marketing appeal is just absolutely baffling.
@@VancePetrol That's such a perfect name, fuck
This is literally my favorite game of all time, actual masterpiece. Story, Music, Gameplay, everything.
And prey was pretty alright as well
I just picked up this game this week and it's the most fun I've had with a video game in fucking years, this was exactly the type of game I needed to play, the gameplay loop is so fucking Intoxicating, and I'm excited to watch a bunch of RUclips videos explaining the lore
It's mid

Quick question, am I the only one who finds the mimics kind of cute?

So what did Prey teach us? Stick any weird needle contraption in one's eye socket for physical enhancements.
Hear me out: Nuromods, Plasmids, and Cyberware
@@topnoodlebowl1549 this is how we beat Goku
The “weird needle contraption” is called a neuromod, have you not played the game?
Tf that is dead space wrong game
@@thenoobreturnz8968 Okay, you haven’t played Prey either
This game encourages you to play stealth except there's nowhere to hide, you never have any ammo, and enemies are faster than you.
The literal catch phrase of this game is "I can still see you Morgan."
I can still see Yu
I think the game's greatest strength is how it is designed for the player to use their tools creatively. When I talk about it with friends, we all discuss the moment where the game "clicked" for us.
I wanted to break into a security checkpoint to take ammo. The front door was blocked by a too heavy object. The upper vent access was blocked by debris. I thought to myself...I wonder if I can stand on the counter of the checkpoint desk. I could! So naturally, I turned myself into a clipboard and slid under the desk like a fucking bribe.
10/10 would save Benedict Wong again.
“So naturally, I turned into a clipboard” has got to be the greatest out of context clip I’ve ever heard
I got hyped at the idea of this man seeing the big reveal, then he escapes through a fishbowl? Damn.
LOL ikr - I had the same reaction followed by the realization that not once in my multiple playthrough did it ever occur to me to leave or even attempt to break through these fish tanks.
Prey has, objectively, the best Bethesda opening sequence. That city skyline shot from the heli was so cool when I played it.
Arkane developed the game, Bethesda merely published it.
@@CrazyxEnigmaskrt skrt tied. 😊
I love watching people play an immersive sim for the first time.
"I can just throw everything?!" *Proceeds to throw everything*
Anyone who doesn't have that reaction is a psychopath.
Getting Telekinesis in Bioshock and proceeding to use only that as a weapon for the rest of the game be like
@@dr.k8610Bioshock does not count as an immersive sim.
Lots of folks consider it one
@@katharden8257 I promised you, ask anyone who are spent a decent chunks at imsim and most of them provided an argument why it isn't one or a dumbed down genre into linear fps.
Heck, most people who played Bioshock only played Bioshock but never played Deus Ex, Thief, Prey, and most importantly SS2.
I proceeded to move everything out of the starting room and make a huge pile on the technician in the hallway lol
This game was everything I ever wanted; One of the best experiences I have ever had gaming, it really sucks we will never have a sequel. I do a yearly NG+ plus play-through and I still find new things that I missed since release day.
The Talos space station is my absolute all time favorite level design in all of gaming history. It should be taught in classes.
You know this game is only called Prey
because Bethesda had a BAD falling out with a dev.
Flash back to 2006, 2K Games & Human Head Studios make a game called Prey. (PC & Xbox360)
First person SciFi shooter.
Its a ground breaking hit averaging a 9.5 out of 10. A epic scifi single player story.
About a modern day earth getting a visit from a mega alien space ship that abducts people all over earth.
You play as a Native American who was abducted with billions of humans. You try to escape this massive space ship. Witnessing the horrors the aliens are doing to humans.
Turns out earth was a huge "farm" and humans were just cattle for meat. Humanity was planted on earth to be harvested for meat.
Anyways, big epic adventure later. Day being saved aliens beat.
It ends on a cliff hanger "Prey will continue ..."
Then Bethesda steps in. To publish Prey2.
They get pretty far into development having 90% of the game done.
Theres a awesome 2011 E3 trailer and gameplay.
Bethesda games that were releasing at the time even had little "adds" you know the ones that come in game cases with the manual?
They had Prey2 adverts in them during Bethesda published games in 2011.
Prey2 has you playing a US Sky Marshal who was on a flight that got abducted during the first game.
He survives the slaughter house and escapes into the alien society deep in space. Becoming a bounty hunter.
BUT
Bethesda & the devs at Human Head Studios had a massive falling out.
Bethesda was pushing for the game to launch even tho it wasnt ready.
& Human Head Studios was pushing back not wanting to release a buggy game that needed more time in the oven. The game was done, it just needed to be smoothed out.
Bethesda got in such a fit about it.
They CANCELED the game. & Human Head Studios walked away from the project.
& ontop of all of that, it came out recently from the game director of Prey2017.
That he was FORCED by Bethesda to name their game "PREY"
As a petty move by Bethesda to bury Human Head Studios Prey.
& it worked, because youve never heard of Prey2006, or Prey2 2012 before.
Jeez, that bad huh? We should've realized what that awful Horse armor DLC meant Bethesda would become.
Bad?!
It as an attempted hostile takeover by Bethesda that resulted in the original prey 2 being canned as a response of refusing to be bought out by bethesda
8:30 just ended me. This man having a serious conversation and kev just deicides to take a swing at it lol.
While bummed we never got the open world alien bounty hunter that was originally going to be Prey 2... another spiritual successor take on System Shock 2 works for me.
I love how the ending note is “Wait…I have a flashlight?!”
One of my favorite games of all time man, with the ridiculous replayability with the different endings and different abilities this game is my shit

Prey is 11/10 game that not many people know about for some reason :D ive put over 200 hours into it trying to find secrets and playing on the hardest difficulty
I actually started prey a couple days ago and I’m loving it even though I already saw gameplay and the ending. Seeing all the ways you can sneak around, or work around the puzzles, it’s incredible

It’s funny how Kevduit finds the shotgun when he’s about halfway into the game, you can find it in the armory and in a few earlier points as well
Still remember how I laughed right at the beginning of the game, when I thought 'Hm, I wonder what happens when I jump into the rotor blades of that helicopter...', died and got an achievement for my stupidity.
Omg I so wish I could experience this game again for the first time. This game seems so unassuming from the outside. Yeah people say it's good but you truly can't understand just how amazing that first experience of the space station is. That first time you head outside and realize how little you've seen is just an incredibly awe inspiring moment. This game is truly great and one of very few games I wish I could experience for the first time again.
Fun fact, the prisoner at 15:52 is voiced by Walter Goggins, who is same guy that played the Sheriff of Red Rock in the Hateful Eight
Walton Goggins. Not Walter Goggins.
Another fun voice actor fact, Titchy Gren from Dark Souls 2 (the NPC of the brotherhood of blood) is voiced by Con O'Neill who played Viktor Bryukhanov in the miniseries Chernobyl :D
Yeah and now he is a ghoul in fallout tv series 😄
"At least there are no mimics in space". Ah yes, this was me 20s before meeting a mimic in space. Ah, good memories.
I finally got back into Prey a few months ago, and I knew it'd be fun to watch you play it!
Its sad that in the last 7 years this is the only triple A immersive sim to be made.
Deus Ex Mankind divided was August 2016. But regardless, we don't get enough of them for sure. Looking forward to Judas from Ken Levine and hoping it prompts a bit of a resurgence. I love how creative these games allow the player to be :)

I refuse to believe the creators of this game made Redfall.
8:53 the total spazattack made me laugh 😆
I'm glad he had a good stream last guy I watched had someone in chat spoil the whole thing and he saw it, which caused him to end stream early.
Oh that sucks
Imagine being that guy who wakes up in the morning thinking to himself "how can I be like, MAXIMUM dickhead,,,?"
One of my favourite games of all time, definitely has issues later in the game, but always play it and it's fantastic DLC atleast once a year or every few months.
Hope Arkane makes another immersive sim like this or Dishonored, definitely their strong suits.
Sucks how the game got a bad wrap due to its name because of the original one back in 2007? I believe, correct me if wrong. That was also a fantastic game with a cancelled sequel that should've happened.
Director wanted to name it "Typhoon", but Bethesda of course being Bethesda.
I'm sure they will eventually, I believe Deathloop is the only game released since they've been under Microsoft's umbrella and I'm pretty sure the bulk of development was done before the acquisition though I could be wrong. I'd love to see what they can do with a much higher budget and little publisher interference.
2006 but yeah I agree. I still am upset about Prey 2's cancellation to this day.

after more than a decade of mostly boring games, this was the one that brought me back to that excited state, feeling like a child again, like an explorer of a strange yet extremely fascinating world, absolutely love this game to pieces!
Seeing him play is making me want to complete the game again.
I first played the demo back in 2017 and wasn’t impressed. But recently I was getting that half life itch but don’t wanna invest in a pc so I looked up game’s similar to half-life and came across this one. I’ve been stuck on it since. I love this game

Something is very good about hearing Kevduit say "this is good, this is good, this is very good," it words used in the either the most wholesome or the most psychopathic of moments.
Ha ha, this is the funniest way to play Prey - just running and screaming and spraying gloo and EMP's everywhere 😂😂😂
Pro tip: the huntress boltcaster is great against those little homing blobbies. Even better though is psi blast. There are many ways to overcome every obstacle in Prey, keep trying different things and you learn.
@@leslieviljoen I can't believe I never thought about using the boltcaster on them and I've played 3 times.
This game is so good! Really nice to see you had fun with it.
This reminds me of my first playthrough. Thanks for the laughs.
This was seriously entertaining. I love how his solution is to just run through everything. When he pulled out the Huntress, i was 100% expecting him to shoot an enemy with it and then be baffled that it did no damage.
I’d love to see a sequel. This is one of the best games ever.
It makes me so happy you are playing Prey! Very triggering how trigger happy you are with ammo though

I picked this game up at a gamestop for like five bucks, I wasn't expecting it to end up as one of the best games I've ever played. Unforgettable experience, should've been way more popular than it was.
Running into your first phantom feels like a boss fight. You can get the shotgun pretty early in the game and from that point on, game is ez mode.

I have watched two full playthroughs of this game and I never knew you could pick your character.
I was expecting another cheesy bad game, but this was awesome! the sound design in particular was amazing. The enemies were also super cool. I'm super impressed.
Prey is by far one of the fps games i've ever played.Arkane studios Nailed the atmosphere and story.
It is Definately better than Deathloop.

you can pick two typhon abilities without the turrets shooting you.
I have never seen someone play this game so neurotically, and I love it.
I like how he keeps trying to bomb the mimics without realizing EMPs do nothing against psychic manifestations.
I hate to repeat most of the comments but honestly, this really is one of the best games ever made. To the point where, one critique of it I saw literally said it was, 'too perfect' and that was somehow a bad thing to them. Really goes to show how much you have to stretch to criticise this game, it genuinely is just a masterpiece. Sadly one that a lot of people didn't get to see or experience. I'm glad my partner told me to give it a try.
I always loved the ability to pick up a couch and throw it at an enemy.
Best game I've ever played in my 33 years alive period.
I'm not going to lie, the first 4 or so hours were quite the adjustment. The cretaures hiding from you in plain sight, the complex map layout (very vertically accessible), the secrets absolutely everywhere, the easy ti miss upgrades, ect... this game has a bit of everything once you delve into it. I never did finish it. It couldnt keep me interested after about 10ish hours.
Kev, you should take a look at Control! That's a great game
I love how this video started off with you so confident and slowly progressed to you running frantically from enemies🤣🤣🤣
Ps i love this game👌👌👌
One of the BEST GAMES EVER.
„I am scared, I dunno what that is I don’t care I’m leaving“ lol
I love this game and have played through it three times now. As far as I can tell, the major problem with the game is that there's not a single memorable character in the entire story. The game-play is fun and varied, the story is intriguing and has some interesting twists, but the characters are so boring that I can barely remember any of them.
So I Just Finished BL3!!! And Man What A Game!!! Moving On To Prey.... Sheesh!!! This Game Is Absolutely Awesome.....
It is said that the studio did not want to name this game prey but the bethesda force them to
Correct after Bethesda stole the ip rights using their classic trick they then forced arkane to name it prey and get to work on it while they were already busy with this game they were told slap prey name on this
Forgotted how masterpiece prey was. And nice dlc roguelike before roguelike genre was trending 👺 hope they take same kinda risks on redfall 👹
Prey it's definitely Arkane's masterpiece and one the best immersive game (or even video game as whole). It's rare to see game with real-time environmental interaction nowadays. The music is great, but 'atmospheric' might be better word. Apart from great (and shocking) plot twist, the story is pretty much standard sci-fi but the writing is top notch and very detail. Sad it's kinda underapreciated, maybe due to confusing IP it bears.
watching kev play an immersive sim like an FPS is amazing
I would rate this game SO much higher if the lobby didn't respawn enemies, or spawn in enemies when you progressed in the story.
You have to fully loot/find all bodies in each area after the first clear and never re-visit any area you have gone to before or you will hate yourself.
if it didn't have that mechanic, the game woulda been so much more popular, besides the whole boycott that happened due to Bethesda being terrible at the time, which also prevented this game from being known by people.
The lesson learnt time and again from boycotts is anyone who says "boycotts don't work" is not a smart person.
This game has everything that made HL2 great and more.
I never knew this game existed until last year. Played it, Loved it. It's hard but gives you enough to keep going. Great Vid!
This game really surprised me when it came out, easily in my top 10
i loved making my own paths with the gloo gun and finding a door key 5 min later lol.
damn, from this to redfall
Yeah, that's what happens when you force a team to develop a game they are both have no experience at making nor want to make.
This is an arcane game not Bethesda, Bethesda aren't capable of this much quality and attention to detail and passion and ingenuity
"you know I feel good" *awful screaming* "I'm feeling bad all of the sudden" loooooool
7:16 That guy in the case was my reaction when I first saw this scene.
Bit late to this video but this was easily one of my favourite titles from the PS4/XBOX ONE generation. Second only to Bloodborne & Outer Wilds for me. Such a shame it was massively overlooked as a result of Bethesda's management.. Should have been the first signs to us of where Bethesda would run the team.
Looooooool first getting the shotgun in the arboretum, I think you passed by like at least 4 of them not counting the lower half of the station
The door you hit at 17 minutes was as far as I ever forced myself to play this. I remember finding the story vaguely interesting, but the gameplay was so bad after I found out about that code, I just refused to slog back for it.
Skill issue. The games incredible
Definitely a top 10 game,Emile ever played. We need more Bishock type immersive sim games. Microsoft would be smart to let those that remain from Arkane do what they do best.
Loved how open and nonlinear this game was never felt like the game was holding my hand i could just wander around and do ehat i wanted follow whatever quests i wanted to do
the Prey that those of us wanting Prey 2 DIDN'T want

I fucking LOVED this game, glad to see Kev’s first reactions after having already played it myself. Great pick Kev.
Not gonna lie Prey is one of my favorite games of all time every single aspect about I absolutely adore.

This game needs to be up there with Bioshock.
I love how quickly he responds when someone says "hi" or "hello."
