Script was completed and the edit was a minor issue, the script was terrible. "What are we, some type of Suicide Squad?" Ayer wrote that, not the edit team.
Actually disappointed by that. Like I get wanting to create your own thing but the Williams theme is Superman. I certainly am fine with taking it for a spin. No reason to just blare out something from the ‘70’s without update but that’s the theme. Like I would find it bizarre to do a Star Wars film without the Force theme or the main theme squirreled away somewhere in the score.
I've heard arguments arguing that reusing the score even if its just a homage is still stupid and they shouldn't try and nostalgia bait the audience and make something new but we've only seen a complete homage to the donner films and a complete 180 on the traditional and original iteration of superman with Man of steel's dark and different take, so if Gunn can mold it together, with the grounded tone and modern action sequences with the classic and hopefulness of the donner films, with comic nods and ideas, we are gold
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 impressed me a lot. There are a lot of writers who would've straight up contradicted Endgame or ignored it due to how much of a monkey wrench it throws into things. But James Gunn masterfully played off of Endgame and tailored his story in a way that made sense. He acknowledged but also utilized alternate Gamora just existing and how Peter has to deal with that. While still doing the Rocket and Adam stuff that he teased
@@racool911 he was like “f that mask and jet boots though, I got rid of those” 🤣🤣🤣 still bummed we didn’t get Quill in the classic costume with the mask but that’s a nitpick.
The difference is Bay is fully aware of how stupid his movies can be stupid and doesn't pretend they're deeper than what they actually are. Zack thinks he's the second coming of cinema itself and would look you dead in the eye and tell you only a small minority of people hate his movies.
Nah. Bay can do dumb shit if he wants to, but he also multiple times made movies that actually had something to say. Unlike Snyder, Bay understands his limitations and is happy to direct the hell out of somebody else's script, while Snyder can't accept he can't write to save his life
About reusing the John Williams Superman Theme...Why does Superman need a new theme? Do people complain about the Bond theme being reused from each Bond film?(I'm sure the answer is yes but they are in the minority) The theme is iconic and using that as a recurring theme that persists beyond the current iteration of a character...is good branding(I hate myself for saying that but its true)
@@Spiderhunter maybe it’s because I always liked the way the animated series theme took the basic vibe of the Williams theme but did its own thing. I do love a big bombastic fanfare.
@@NickolasNameolas I agree that Superman Animated series theme is very good without directly lifting from the Williams theme...but you said it yourself, it still has the same vibe...its still being influenced by Williams. At that point why not just use the bones of the Williams theme, something that is already good, to create a newer version of the Superman theme? This is yet another version of Superman so its not like this movie isn't already building off of all previous versions of Superman in someway. As long as its not overused in the movie itself, I think it's fine to reuse the Williams Superman theme. How easy do you think it is to create an iconic theme? The MCU certainly has a theme for The Avengers ...is it good...sure I guess...but is it Iconic? No. The Williams Superman theme IS Iconic.
And given track record some old Superman related actors will show up in this somewhere. They’ve been doing that (at least for Superman) since at least the 70’s (I can’t recall if they did a throwback to like the 30’s radio show in the 50’s tv show). So like lean into the fact they solved Superman’s theme 50 years ago.
@@Spiderhuntercan’t really know until we hear the new score/theme. Maybe you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how it sounds, maybe you won’t. I’d have to imagine either way it’ll be inspired by Williams score in the same way the animated series was, considering what we’ve heard so far was

I forgot to add that the explanation for the Peacemaker characters meeting the old justice league is likely going to be in Creature Commandos. Even though it's an animated series, Viola Davis is voice acting Amanada Waller and there are some plot points that might take care of the old justice league cross over.
James Gunn just makes better films, period. I think his real strength is how much he gets you to care about the characters. I don't know anyone that wasn't worried when king shark fell out of the tower in his suicide squad movie. Same with rocket. Can anyone really say they cared or were worried in a Znyder film post-Dawn of the dead.
Yeah, James Gunn does have a better track record (I honestly can't think of a bad movie he's done), but I can confidently say that I cared about what happened in alot of Snyder's movies.
Helps that James Gunn's works so far have very strong anti-US imperialism themes, the opposite of Snyder's US military propaganda and the MCU's centrism
What are you smoking? That was KIND OF one movie. Snyder is woke btw. Why do you think his daughter off'ed herself? Because he's a wacko Commie and she couldn't take it.
Tom King who James Gunn has cited as a key writing and story consultant on the DCU is a literal CIA Agent (fact check it - it’s right there on his Wikipedia article with sources). Unfortunately I doubt we will get anything more politically radical than what the MCU has already depicted
I dont see JG works as left leaning i would say his works is pretty much centrist, also even tho Snyder movie have a "right" vibe ironically Snyder is voting for democrat lol
I think you nailed it. Gunn understands the basic necessities of storytelling (ie setup & payoff, character arcs, motivations, etc) in a way that Snyder doesn’t seem to have locked down (yet?). Snyder clearly has mastery of visual artistry, but it seems more about being cool or epic than actually being a part of telling the story. A part of what made the MCU successful for as long as it was is that the essentials of storytelling were usually present in even their worst movies while the DCEU had studio execs interfering with nearly every project and even going so far as to recut films to oblivion. The MCU has suffered from a lot of different aspects over the past few years in particular with a sense of monotony and an implacable release schedule that overworked SFX and rushed scripts and rewrites; I’m very interested in the mission statement that Gunn expressed that the new DCU will be a mix of tones and that having a good *completed* script is the key to any project moving forward
Sounds fair. But honestly, for me, Zack's Man of Steel was an amazing movie , i loved it (Even if Rebel Moon was horribly bad). And Henry Cavill was for me perfect Superman. So im a bit sad about the end of it and the change. From the trailer Guns Superman seems abit more fantasy/fairy Tale then the realistic dark tone of Zacks, which might not be a bad thing, but it seems it will be different for sure. We shall see, i do hope its good.

Everything you mentioned Synder has already accomplished. I actually feel sorry for you because you have no idea what you are talking about. You need to take your supplements that will boost your intelligence. Wake up.
Why are they using the John Williams Superman theme? For the same reason Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and 007 still use tgeir respective themes. It is synonymous with their respective characters. Superman is incomplete without that theme music.
James Gunn took a highly obscure IP in the form of Guardians of the Galaxy and made it one of the most popular groups in the MCU. Nobody complains about how it's not comic accurate because nobody remembers them. I grew up reading Marvel and I think my only real experiences with them is when they occasionally crossed over with Thor, Dark Hawk and Airwalker. I was a bit familiar with Rocket, but he's actually spent more time with the damn Avengers lol.
Nuance and storytelling are words that are too big for Zack to understand. All he knows is: slow motion, jesus references, and smashing action figures together

Zatanna is definitely happening. I hope we see a Justice League Dark with her, The Demon, Constantine, Swamp Thing, and Detective Chimp in the roster. Maybe Gunn will be able to woo Del Toro to direct it.
I actually think it's kind of an academic point whether Snyder's DCEU films are considered failures or not. Whatever anyone, including the studio itself, thinks of them, no one is taking them away from the people that enjoyed them. I like pineapple on pizza, and it doesn't change my enjoyment at all to hear people complain about it, or even tell me I shouldn't like it. I get to like what I like, and people can mind their own business. In other news, I loved The Last Jedi. I'd be delighted to see more Rian Johnson Star Wars, but I'm not angry at the world for depriving me of that. Life goes on, ya know? Yes, we're not gonna get any more Zack Snyder DCEU films, but we're also never going to get another Chris Nolan Batman, or another Russo Brothers Captain America, or another Joss Whedon Avengers. So what? We should appreciate movies for themselves, not only as a set-up for some as-yet unmade film that supposedly would bring everything together and blow our minds. I was disappointed by The Dark Knight Rises, as were many, but it only made me appreciate the achievement of The Dark Knight all the more. I certainly don't feel upset that we never got more movies in the Nolan-verse. It was good while it lasted, and then it was over, and I was ready for the next thing. If people felt the Snyder-Verse is incomplete after three films and several spin-offs, maybe those films weren't as satisfying as they could have been. Or maybe their fans should just love them for what they are, three whole movies that, apparently, did those characters exactly the way their fans wanted. What's the problem?
@@rottensquid Well said! 😆👏👏👏 It’s hilarious to see Snyder’s brain-rotten fans clinging desperately, trying to save their dead universe, lol. The only reason you need to give is that Gunn is a competent storyteller with an understanding and respect for these characters while Snyder is none of those things.
My first time seeing one of your vids. Good shit! SUBSCRIBED! I'm a bit of a DC old head. Grew up in the 80s and 90s reading my older brothers comic books from the late 60s and 70s; my first favorite superhero movie was Christopher Reeve in Superman but Batman was always my favorite character so Burton's '89 film was a life changing event. Batman The Animated Series was my after school jams. As an adult I have been an amateur/indie filmmaker off and on, working as a production assistant and writing screenplays. I think you nailed most of this topic on the head. Can't wait to check out more of your content!
Can't we just love both? Also, the reason Supes wore a black suit in the Snyder Cut was to reflect his Kryptonian heritage because Kryptonians wore black suits.
I dont really care for superhero movies in general, but I'd honestly listen to you talk about paint drying if it were something you were passionate about bc you have this way of getting people emotionally invested in whatever topic is at hand, because you seem to always be writing about things you have a ton of knowledge on and are intensely fascinated by. That shit is contagious, man. Keep talking about the things you like, the things you hate, whatever it is that makes you feel something strong, that makes life feel more real for you. Even if it's esoteric or weird, that energy is gonna pull folks in and have them along for the ride regardless, and that is a gift you shouldn't squander. ❤
YES! I’ve been complaining for years about the set up and lack of pay off that is rampant in movies and television shows. It is super frustrating to see a movie or TV show promised something and it never delivers.
What's frustrating about Zack is, he doesn't use what's already there, like the whole floating dust payoff, you have the codex for that and he could build on that for actually interesting plot beats It's a bunch of okay ideas but the pivot and execution is so poorly done, that it makes it look like terrible ideas in retrospect I agree with your point about it being "inverted The Boys", this new superman logo is basically a nice version of the Kingdom Come logo, which is where I think he's going with this, "a Hope Punk Kingdom Come" with the MCU as the stand-in metaphor, kinda like what we got with Orgocorp in GOTG 3 Gunn does good deconstruction- Valid and meaningful breakdown and replaces with something better Snyder does bad deconstruction- Vacuous and facile breakdown with empty or weaker replacement.
Alan Moore and Garth Ennis actually wrote well written poignant Superman stories despite being known for deconstructing superheroes. Even they have respect for Superman and who he is.
I'm very excited for the Clayface movie because of Mike Flanagan writing. His work for Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and the Fall of the House of Usher was incredible.
Zack doesn't write too good... Gunn always had a gift for it and has only gotten better... I don't think much more needs to be added to this convo haha it's pretty cut and dry.
The Coen brothers, David Fincher, Mike Flanagan. There’s just so many other filmmakers out there people could be championing and Snyder is who they go with.
Mind you, those dust particles meant nothing over Clark coffin because he was literally dead. Should've hinted at the motherboxes reviving him in the final act instead.
Im really not the type to fanboy over movie directors but most of James Gunn’s movies feel more human than anything Snyder ever put out and I’ve just watched guardians of the galaxy Vol 3 recently so I’m not worried at all about his version of Superman… I recall having so many issues with man of steel despite not hating it, but as the DCU went on it just got worse and it all felt like it was made by an edgy teenager that only had some out of order pages and drawings of the comics he was pulling from. So again very happy about the lighter tone and trailer of Gunn’s Superman.
We will definitely see a version of that character in Gunn’s DCU. He loves elevating the weird and obscure. I still can’t believe he brought Starro to live action.
Actually that moment with dirt on the Superman coffin is stated to be symbolic that of hope, kind of like how Superman brings hope when the dust rises when he takes flight. And the black suit is something of an evolution of his character, something to level up in, you could take that with how he interacts with a butterfly, signifying transformation.
The main difference is that Zack Snyder's Superman was not Superman but a god who descended from heaven to help or enslave the weak. Even his dark-colored suit did not let anyone get close. That was the reason why Batman never trusted him, including the other members of the Justice League. The difference with James Gunn's Superman is that just by the colorful suit you realize that he does not want to be superior, but someone who wants to be normal (the initial scene where he bleeds highlights this) but is willing to help those most in need regardless of race, nationality, religion, etc. That is what makes him Superman.
I think Snyder tries to setup -> payoff formula... It just doesn't come off in as satisfying of a way. One I think of that I haven't seen mentioned much was in BvS. There is a dream sequence where Batman is hanging, chained up with bodies to his left and right. Superman drops in and uses his laser vision on each body, instilling fear in Batman. It has a slight payoff later during their fight where Superman lasers the two Shockwave turrets Batman setup to his left and right. You can almost see it reaffirming Batman's fear. Nice bit of setup and payoff but what it is paying off isn't satisfying to what you'd want out of superman. Snyder's version of the character was one who was capable of becoming what Superman is in the injustice universe and that isn't satisfying.
8:09 I can understand your reasoning behind Absurdity vs Realism. It’s genuinely tough to pull off. But that’s why Guardians of the Galaxy was so Good. And I feel that it’s been intergrated into the rest of Marvel VERY WELL after Gunn’s first movie.
One thing I know for sure about James Gunn is that he knows how to write good characters. GOTG Vol. 1 had four random people, and he made it a hit. The same thing happened with Peacemaker. As for Zack, one thing in his favor is that Man of Steel was an excellent movie. Maybe not comic-accurate, but still a good movie. In my opinion, it was a cinematic masterpiece. They portrayed it in a different way, and it worked. I also think it was good because Nolan was partially involved. Zack knows how to direct things, but I don’t think he’s great at writing. That’s why the movies after Man of Steel were not as good in comparison.
James Gunn has a much more diverse skill set than Zack. Zack Mastered action and visual design, but that's it. Everything solo film he did was ahhs. Dawn of the dead was a collaboration project of Zack and James Gunn. Watchmen screen play and story was written by David Hayter & Alex Tse, Directed by Zack. Zack can make good movies, as long as he doesn't write them 😁

I would like to see the Legion of Superheroes become the inevitable destiny of the characters in this new cinematic universe. Taking inspiration from Earth-22 Kingdom Come. Not that Injustice-like hellscape from the DCEU. Zack’s plans sounded absurd. Batman and Lois have an affair, Lois gets pregnant with Bruce’s kid, the Greek gods were actually ancient Kryptonians? Yeah, enough of that noise.
He also missed the point of the dark knight returns, you're not supposed to idolize that Batman but even that Batman still had the motivation of fighting crime and corruption and saved more people there compared to the nihilistic DCEU counterpart
I have been a loud “never bet against Gunn” guy in the past, but I gotta say… I’m becoming concerned we said that too much and it may be going to his head. GoG 3 was kinda mid rather than great like the last 2, Creature Commandos is a very mixed bag, and while it’s unclear just how much he was involved, the Suicide Squad game was supposedly our first glimpse of the Gunn DC verse and that wasn’t… promising. I am very open to this being another great film from Gunn, but I’m becoming a bit concerned that it’s dangerous to keep assuming/expecting that… I agree that he’s more reliable than Snyder and that intentionality lends itself to better odds of success, but intentionality isn’t such a guarantee of success that it should be taken as evidence it’s imminent. Like you can have a plan and have that plan be not turn out great. Fingers crossed he puts my fears to bed though.

They're only reusing the John Williams score for certain bits but they have confirmed this Superman will have his own theme by the end of the film.
Is it true
Actually disappointed by that. Like I get wanting to create your own thing but the Williams theme is Superman. I certainly am fine with taking it for a spin. No reason to just blare out something from the ‘70’s without update but that’s the theme. Like I would find it bizarre to do a Star Wars film without the Force theme or the main theme squirreled away somewhere in the score.
@rubaiyat300 they don't want to completely copy it, but the new theme will evolve from the 78 theme.

Synder is like Michael Bay. He doesn't care about story telling. He just wants to make scenes look really cool with slow motion and shaky cams.
The difference is Bay is fully aware of how stupid his movies can be stupid and doesn't pretend they're deeper than what they actually are.
Zack thinks he's the second coming of cinema itself and would look you dead in the eye and tell you only a small minority of people hate his movies.
Snyder doesn't use shaky cams
Nah. Bay can do dumb shit if he wants to, but he also multiple times made movies that actually had something to say. Unlike Snyder, Bay understands his limitations and is happy to direct the hell out of somebody else's script, while Snyder can't accept he can't write to save his life
I’ve said this exact thing for YEARS. Snyder is Michael Bay who thinks he’s David Fincher
Not true both are different. MoS and BvS were telling stories can't say the same for Michael. Anyway, Zack is a director not a good writer

Didn't even cared when superman died
Yeah, James Gunn does have a better track record (I honestly can't think of a bad movie he's done), but I can confidently say that I cared about what happened in alot of Snyder's movies.

I think MCU is more left leaning recently
Meanwhile james gunn made a foreign boy raise a flag for superman and ask his help. Looks like US propaganda.
James Gunn is a spectacular storyteller. He never fails to make the audience feel.

I am a snyder fan and i agree with you
is it just my brain that's broken or did someone else notice mick foley's car crash sting? 1:06
I share the same sentiments. A bunch of loose ends that never get addressed in Snyder films.
I still love Man of Steel, I really liked the media being portrayed and how we'd react to him.
8:09 I can understand your reasoning behind Absurdity vs Realism. It’s genuinely tough to pull off.

GoG 3 was kinda mid rather than great like the last 2, Creature Commandos is a very mixed bag, and while it’s unclear just how much he was involved, the Suicide Squad game was supposedly our first glimpse of the Gunn DC verse and that wasn’t… promising.
I am very open to this being another great film from Gunn, but I’m becoming a bit concerned that it’s dangerous to keep assuming/expecting that…
I agree that he’s more reliable than Snyder and that intentionality lends itself to better odds of success, but intentionality isn’t such a guarantee of success that it should be taken as evidence it’s imminent. Like you can have a plan and have that plan be not turn out great.
Fingers crossed he puts my fears to bed though.
The Suicide Squad game is canon to the Arkham universe not the DCU

I’m sorry, but james Gunn isn’t overrated hack and we have to remember. This is the same guy who said flash was the best movie he ever saw.
What I find funny about the teaser is that if it had directed by Zach Snyder rather than James Gunn everyone will be ripping it apart
They would cry that he made Superman too mopey , he has too many side characters and that Lex Luthor is too young but since it’s james gun it’s OK

man of steel was the only good dceu film
For me it was Aquaman along side the first Wonder Woman Movie
Exactly this.
@@thabzaisreal yeah wonder woman and Aquaman were great too
Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Suicide Squad are the top three
@@danielwright3929 zack snyder s justice league was great too i would say
for me:
1 man of steel
2 zack snyder s justice league
3 the suicide squad
Dial H for Hero? Lantern Corp Wars/Blackest Night/Brightest Day? Dare I say it... Emperor Joker? If they can land a new Batman and a palatable Joker (in this instance, someone genuinely funny that can also handle manic intensity, like Leonardo DiCaprio), this DC film run will rival the MCU.
Glazing 😂
So it’s considering glazing to praise good film making. Tell me why he’s glazing. He’s not a snyderbot, those guys are the definition of glazing. Yet you say he’s glazing for what, saying his movies are good.
I enjoy watching scenes from Snyder’s films but I don’t rewatch them very often. I do rewatch Gunn’s films and it is mainly to see how things fit together. Thanks for helping me see why.
Friendly correction: Snyder is not pronounced like “Schneider.” I’m married to a Snyder and he hates that.
I can't watch this video. The freaking "Schneider" thing is bothering me.
Same. Literally stopped watching before it was half over and the guy's too braindead to realize
Your telling me that a word being mispronounced (which I can’t even hear the mispronouncing) is why you clicked off. Are you sure, or are you mad that he said bad things about Snyder.
My condolences.
@Soviet_frog51 My man, he is literally saying an entirely different name. There is no way this is a lisp or anything, he just got the name fucking wrong. I am not a fan of Zack Snyder, but I have a principle where if you're gonna hate on something, you gotta do it properly. Getting the name entirely wrong just makes you look stupid.
@@Soviet_frog51 true, I don’t care about his name got mispronounced but I care if he makes a coherent movies but “Schneider” don’t make good movies
Thank you for acknowledging that MoS, BvS and ZSJL are absolutely a trilogy. BvS is as sequel to MoS in every possible way and JL is a sequel to BvS in every possible way. The only thing that would hold them back from being a trilogy is the clear desire to set up yet another film or several.
(I'm not a fan of these films but every time someone says they want a sequel to MoS I'm just like what the hell do you think BvS is?)
Superman doesn't just wear the black suit for no reason, after he puts it on he flies up above the atmosphere and extends his Arms and soaks up the sun. If you have any semblance of like a brain you wouldn't need anything more to understand what he's doing lol
Then why is he at full power as soon as he is resurrected? If you’re right he didn’t NEED the black suit
@Trey-dp6tl nothing really suggests he's at full power after coming back Alive tho, he fights the league sure but he doesn't doesn't do anything crazy. There's no reason snyder would have that flight into the sun scene with the suit if he didn't need to power up more. But then again it's Snyder so. Maybe it was really that needless but I don't think so
You still didn't explain why he needs to wear it, you just say that he wears it.
@ …dude he was thrashing the League. If that’s not full power I dot t know what is
@Zombieworm98 he wears it to soak up the sun and recharge. Otherwise he wouldn't have flown up and hovered in front of the sun. Basic critical thinking lad
I'm all for new themes, but frankly, the John Williams theme IS the Superman theme! It's the main reason I feel optimistic about the movie.
Thank god. No more Zach Snyder, Rise Rise James Gunn
Great video, so happy to see you getting more views, you deserve it!
Superman was never really dead..the mother box just sped up everything
Bro the rule of threes thing was mindblowing, thanks for pointing that out appreciate james gunn even more now
