Totally agree re Mortlach variation in flavor and price. Really is odd how different the age stated releases are and that makes the distillery character too hard to discern for me so I’m not trying - even if it were less of a corporate affair.
I have made my mind about Diageo Special Releases and I just ignore them. Not that they come very often to Bulgaria anyway, but still I won't pay the absurd prices for cheesy "back stories", silly packaging and OK-ish whisky that goes with all that. Earlier this year I bought a bottle of Signatory Vintage 13 yo, 46% Mortlach, vatting of three hogsheads. Absolute treat of a whisky, lemon candy in a bottle! Paid roughly 45,50 euros for it and I'll take it over the Special Release one every day of the week. BTW Iremember your review of the very same bottling and you scored it way higher than the Special Release. I have also a bottle of 12 yo cask strength Mortlach from Signatory, still unopened. Paid 82-83 euros for it and I bet it is far better value than that Diageo marketing brainfart of a special release. Cheers!
I was not able to get any of these, but I did get Lagavulin 12 and Talisker 8...
great
