  • Collet chucks are very useful on the lathe but when you want to use them on 2 lathes it can get expensive, so using a backplate from a supplier that costs about £29 the chuck can now fit both lathes. How accurate you ask? Well just watch a see how you can make one.
Warning, machinery can be dangerous, I do not recommend the way I do something and if you copy me do so at your own risk, thanks for watching.

I had to cut the register to fit that same ER collet chuck on my Myford Super 7. I also “sneaked” up on that final cut, a scary experience. Thank you for showing how you mounted your ER collet chuck to the Boxford. The accuracy can’t be faulted 👏👏👍😀

Cheers Andrew, sneaking up on it is a well used method, even taught at the highest level Haha, but it works though "scary" I still can't find my metric mic, I think (hope) it's at my dad's. Yep it works out bang on the money, after this I re-cut the myford one (never happy how loose a fit it was) now as good as the boxford, I'm sure yours worked out the same?

@@mattsbitsnbobsworkshop Tomorrow I’m going to recheck my collet chuck and see what run out I have. From memory I suspect it isn’t anywhere as good as you achieved. Might need to fit it on a new backplate. Good luck finding the micrometer. I hate misplacing things, especially my memory. 😂

RUclips recommended this, and I'm glad it did. Looks like you are doing some interesting things in your shed.
Would suggest turning off Auto-focus on your camera :D

Thanks so much Peter (and RUclips) Surprising what you can get upto in ya shed 😁
I was having that conversation only last week with a tech guy at a local university, if I turn it off it's constantly blurred but on it never stops focusing! I have written to Santa so fingers crossed. Cheers
